I hate Adele's sister! I hate how she betrayed Adele. Omg I don't understand why she love John freaking much. Both of them are using each other pheeew
Adele wanted to learn bout antique business just like what her father did. When she met Turner, he helped her and then they became a good friend. Adele met Col through Turner. When she married Col Vincent I tot he is a nice guy but it turns out he is not. Goshhh
this book was amazing in making the reader feel every emotion. It follows two sisters lives after their parents are killed in a auto accident. They lived in the days young woman were expected to marry young and not wish or want to have a career of their own. They lived in the days men could abuse and beat their wives and no one payed attention. But these sisters were different. They went through hell with love , husbands, to just survive. there were times i would get mad at the men , then i would cheer when life gave them roses, but in the end i cried tears . this is a book that woman would love to have that quiet moment
First book of Alexandra Connor I have read but will definitely read some more of hers a fantastic story poor Adele she had hard times but eventually got through them it's a must read for everyone and it's 5 stars definitely
Adele Ford is a strong willed young girl and after losing her parents she and her older sister Julia have to make a life for themselves. As adele grows up throughout the book she becomes more and more independent, I liked her friendship with Rebecca it was nice to read. Her relationship with her sister that wasn't very close anyway starts to fizzle out. She meets Turner who becomes a good friend and introduces her to Col whom she eventually marries but it is a marriage doomed to fail due to Col's violence. Adele decides to leave with her young baby boy. I liked this transition, I felt it brought back adele's sense of independence and was a good turning point. After a struggle with her life after leaving Col she eventually gets a break and Col's deceased mother has left the Lygate estate to Adele as a "sorry" for standing by whilst Col was violent. Turner, a constant friend to adele, reveals that he has always loved her and its a happily ever after for them after adele admits her feelings for him too. Great read.

I read this book for an English course and at first I wasn't really convinced about this story. However, after a few chapter, I found myself interested in the events.
The novel covers a long period of time, from the main character's difficult childhood to her adult life, through the difficult hystorical period after the First World War. I had some problems to understand the connection between the story and the title, because the Laydgate Widow has actually a crucial role but the reader understands that only in the end. Nonetheless the story proceeds in a fluent way, with an interesting sequence of events and no boring pause. Some minor characters are a bit stereotypical but the main characters are well developed.
It's not a great novel, but it's a good story to pass some time.
This book is so so so good. Loved every second of it and was really sad to have reached the end so soon. A book I'll definitely end up reading again and again!
