The Demon's Deal

Rate this book
I may not remember who I am, but fate has decided I belong to him.

Kidnapped.
Cursed.
Fated to a Demon Prince.

My whole life was stolen from me, and I can’t remember what happened.

Delivered into the employ of a powerful archmage, I quickly learn that what little I know isn’t at all what it seems.

Including me.

I’m a stone-kin witch, not a human farm girl like I thought. He’s a powerful demon prince, devoted to me in every way… including taking swift revenge on anyone who’s wronged me.

The curse blocking my memories is also keeping mysterious magic dormant, and someone from my past wants it all for themselves.

And our fated bond? It may not be quite what I thought it was.

The Demon’s Deal is a fated mates romance with a cinnamon roll hero, magic, monsters and a guaranteed happily ever after. It’s a full-length novel with no cliffhanger for the couple and is the first in the series. Suggested for 18+ readers.

Ah yes, because I like a fake-ass but real-life religion (Christianity) in my fake-ass fantasy story /s

Also, this story included the Tumblr-esque meme of the question of how many bodies/how much blood you need to have enough iron to forge a sword. (the answer, in this case, is 276.)

Honestly, the whole thing felt very underwhelming and the stakes were more like toothpicks. Pretty sure the author moves on to a different couple in the next book, so I kinda doubt we're getting any closure on the whole where-are-my-parents situation :')

Definitely not the worst book I've read this year but I just really hate Christianity in my fantasy stories. They may not outright call it Christianity, but at one point one of the characters says "Christ" as a curse. That, and the churches with their stained glass, the tale of Adam and Eve (and Adam and Lilith), and all that jazz. So yeah, Christianity.

A retired Demon Prince, a witch with no memories, and a curse? Sign me tf UP y'all!🤤❤️‍🔥 I expected a cinnamon roll MMC, sassy FMC and a super simple plot. I received an incredible, in depth plot with different things threading together the more you read, an absolute cinnamon roll MMC who will gut anyone for Calla, and a very head strong, independent FMC.

The plot and romance were woven together in a way that didn't have me wishing for more of one or the other. I fell in love with the side characters as much as I did the MCs. Everyone had such personality and the way that Rylan treats others made it easy to love him. Even with Calla's memories gone for most of the book, she was reasonable and worked though most things using logic. I really admired that about her since I feel like it isn't common to read about someone in her situation actually listen and take in what she finds out.

The ending wasn't a twist or shock, but was so tense😅 I was constantly stressing about what would happen next! Calla going total badass? Yes, more please😍 The epilogue was the perfect way to wrap everything up. My heart melted all over again and I ended up crying happy tears for Calla and Rylan🥹

Did I start and finish this in a single day? Yes. Yes I did. Do I feel like a ran a marathon, absolutely but worth it!

I had the pleasure of reading the ARC for this book and man it was so good 👌🏻 Easy world building, 3 dimensional characters and characters you actually love very quickly. Oh and to top it off, a brilliant happy ending which is exactly what I needed to end my night shift!

L. Alexander brings in some of our absolute favorite tropes, mixes it in with myth and fantasy so perfectly that you can almost forget you're reading a book. The world is immersive and beautifully written.

5✨️ and I'll definitely be adding this lovely author to my read again list!

The Demon’s Deal is the first book of the Demon Prince series and held a fount of magic, fated mates and mystery that foretells a good adventure is about to unfold.

The story opens with MMC Calla as she will become known being removed forcefully from her home and having memories of that life and who she is blocked by a magical curse.

Delivered to the household of a wealthy archmage she is at first mistreated by his head staff and given the name girl since she can no longer remember her own.

Weeks pass and MMC Rylan returns home to find Calla a new member of his household and then learning of her mistreatment which he quickly intercedes in as he also ponders why he is so drawn to her.

The seeds have been planted and with a little nurturing what soon grows from them will be a wonderfully written, intrigue rich, perfectly crafted world as one discovers who and what she really is and Rylan’s secrets about himself are revealed to surely test their growing bond.

I loved this Paranormal Fantasy Romance which ended happily and has me looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

My first demon romance, and it will not be my last. This book was so good! I wasn't sure what to expect going into it, but I loved it. I loved the characters and world building. L Alexander was so great with making me feel like I was in these places while the story took place. The steam was top-notch, chef's kiss, perfection. Rylan is 🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵

Can't wait for the sequel

I received this book as an ARC and I’m really glad I signed up. I absolutely loved this book, the plot was great and I kept wanting to know more. I would definitely want to read more of this series, I loved the characters but they did seem to accept things a little too quickly at times. I would definitely recommend reading this book.

The Demon's Deal by L. Alexander is book one in The Demon Princes Series. It’s a Fated Mates Fantasy/ Paranormal Romance. I found this author on TikTok and loved the videos I had seen. This is the first time I’m reading a book written by this author but after finishing this book I’m looking forward to the next one. It surpassed my expectations with the story and how great the characters were. I read the entire thing in one sitting, I could wait to see where the book was going and what would happen next. The world building was fantastic as I could see everything as I read it because it was very well described. The main characters had such chemistry that I felt it even through my kindle. I also loved how each and everyone was unique. This is a great read and should definitely be checked out!

Also very very mild spoilers but I know some people won’t want to know anything so little warning.

This book is different from what I usually go for and I tend to stay away from books about witch’s. As it’s not really my vibe but I enjoyed the demon and witch element in this book. The Author is a very good writer that can’t be disputed. She made me feel a lot of emotions from grinning like an idiot to level 100 rage ready to throw my kindle across the room and watch it smash into a million pieces.

The world building was great and easy to follow. I loved Morticia, I honestly would love a book about her as the main character 😂 The side characters had a lot of depth to them with interesting back stories and not a single one of them was a throw away character. You loved or hated them and it definitely left you wanting to know more about them. The dark academia vibe was great as well I enjoyed learning about the different magic and stuff that was fun. Some plot twist that came were great and I didn’t see coming she hit the mark with the surprise element. The ending was a good happy ending without the need of an accidental pregnancy.

What I was frustrated with… Rylan… you the words I have are not nice. Rylan instantly frustrated me, I had read reviews saying he gives touch her and you die vibes. He’s a cinnamon roll until you cross Calla. At the start I laughed out loud like are you joking. Calla was starved, beaten and forced to live in a broom closet. He lightly scolded them for this severe abuse. He redeemed himself when she actually got hurt. I was like damn this is hot and I’m having a good time.

But then he started to give me a bit of whiplash with his thoughts and actions. I was angry on behalf of Calla but she just accepted whatever attention he gave her. The range of emotion I felt, shows how good this writer is. The reason I’m not rating it higher is because of the MMC. They have to be more or less perfect.. it’s a strong fundamental for me, I didn’t find myself rooting for him at the end. I’m glad they got their happy ending but he wasn’t for me. I get fixated on things and I couldn’t ignore his flaws.

When he accused her of something and everyone in the room was defending her but him. Then he justified it by saying he feels guilty for thinking it. But he never told her about this and when she asked for space after a big reveal she apologise and he omitted the truth about he had said. It got glossed over by him and all the other character anyway after that I didn’t care about him…he didn’t deserve Calla. There were other things he said and does that really annoyed me. But I did love the nickname of little Owl that he gave her, I haven’t heard that one before.

I will give him credit though he knew how to punish those who had physically hurt Calla and that I could get behind. The author got creative with how Rylan punished those who wronged Calla and that was a good time.

Honestly though other than him this book was perfect. It’s probably the longest book I’ve ever read in my life but I had a good time.

I did get this as a free Arc but this will never affect my rating or my thoughts. I get very passionate about the books I read as you can probably tell from my reviews😂

Rating: 3.5 Stars || I had very high hopes from this book because it started off so strong! It hooked me in from the first few sentences and I believed it to be a 4 stars or above read. But that didn’t happen.

But I’ll start with WHAT I LIKED about the book first. I absolutely loved the characters. Not just the main leads but the strong supportive characters as well! Calla, the FMC, is a rational, brave, inquisitive woman who stands strong for herself even in the face of fear, and loves to know the logistics and inner workings of things. I really, really liked her. She doesn’t take shit, even from the MMC, even after they’re together and very much in love, and that made me love her even more. Rylan, our MMC, is a high-ranking demon prince from Hell and is the personification of two phrases: “Consent is sexy”, and “Kindness is cool”. He is so darn lovely and sweet but will also not hesitate to kill you if you physically hurt her “beloved.” The supporting characters (who all get their own books) are extremely lovable. They are Magnus, a supernatural entity part of a group called “Stone Kin” who are supposed to fight the demons and other “evil entities” (but he’s a friend of Rylan because Rylan has long left Hell and is actually a good person), Grace, the human woman in charge of the cafeteria at Rylan’s academy where magic is taught to the underprivileged children, and Vassago, another demon prince from Hell who is also an absolute cutie and is the brother of Rylan for all intents and purposes.
I also quite liked the brief theological discussion entwined with feminist views when it comes to the story of Adam and Lilith, and the way Adam wanted to treat Lilith as inferior to him and make her subservient, and how she was “punished” for not bending. As you can guess, our handsome devil is a feminist, too, and doesn’t understand why Adam would want to subjugate Lilith when they both were made from the same clay and were equals in all aspects.

The writing style was brilliant, too. The book reads like a historical fantasy and the writing style, the words used, and the cadence of the narrative uphold it beautifully.

Now coming to the things that I DID NOT LIKE: the overall plot. It kinda seemed that the author wanted it to be a balance between romance and action, but I found it to be mismatched. I feel like the book could’ve been plotted in a better way. I found the story to also have some unresolved points. I thought they might be taken up in the subsequent books but the book is kind of standalone, as the story of these two characters ends here itself. One of the major plot points was also kind of extremely predictable but it is still okay. The plot as a whole, however, fell kinda…flat for me. It was not as dramatic as the beginning of the book as well as a good chunk after it had me believing (and hoping).

Nevertheless, it was fun to read!

I really enjoyed this lovely book. It’s set in a medieval-esque world filled with magic, witches, gargoyles, demons, fallen angels, magical animals and so much more. It honestly reminded me of the NBC miniseries from 2000, The 10th Kingdom (the best miniseries ever) in some spots. Probably because I’ve recently watched it and love it so much.

This story starts out with a bang! Our main FMC is kidnapped on a dark and stormy night, cursed, and wakes up in an unfamiliar location unable to remember who she is, where she’s from, or even her own name. She eventually ends up at a large manor house where she’s shoved into a closet and treated like a slave…until the devilishly handsome Lord of the Manor returns from the city. From the moment they see each other in the hallway during inspections/introductions they both know they’re meant to be with each other…but it won’t be an easy journey at all. This book has mentions of potential sexual assault, violence, murder. There’s betrayal, secrets being kept intentionally and unintentionally. But there’s also a lot of love, found family, our MFC growing from a confused, shy shell of a person into a strong, badass woman. The side characters are also wonderful. And our MMC is a lovesick gentleman. I wouldn’t classify him as morally grey despite him being a demon. He’s very much a reformed demon and he has better behavior and manners than most people. I guess he’s one of those cinnamon roll guys. I normally prefer my MMC a bit darker, but I quite liked Rylan.

There were some BIG questions that were left unanswered at the end of this book and other plot points I’d have liked to have been fleshed out, but I hope that just means they’ll be addressed in future books. Especially what happened to our MFC’s parents…am I weird to think the cat and owl might have something to do with them? Or Ophelia?

I’ll definitely continue on with this series (if there are more books). It was super engaging, there was spice but it wasn’t graphic (which I prefer), there wasn’t really a lull or boring part anywhere, and it really felt like we just scratched the surface of this world.

"The Demon's Deal" by L. Alexander is a gripping paranormal/fantasy romance that weaves an intricate tale of forbidden love and enigmatic secrets. Set in a world brimming with magic and monsters, the story follows Calla, a young woman whose life is upended when she is kidnapped and thrust into the clutches of a wealthy archmage. As she grapples with lost memories and an uncertain identity, Calla finds solace in the presence of Rylan, a powerful demon prince who becomes inexplicably drawn to her.

The author's writing style is engaging, and their ability to craft a unique storyline shines through. The initial chapters successfully establish the foundation for a gripping narrative, leaving readers eager to unravel the mysteries that lie ahead. The exploration of Calla's missing memories and the intertwining of various plot threads is skillfully executed, ensuring a sense of intrigue throughout the book.

The romance between Calla and Rylan unfolds at a deliberate pace, characterized by a simmering tension and intense emotional connection. Their relationship is beautifully portrayed, with both characters undergoing personal growth and overcoming obstacles that threaten their bond. The author's depiction of their love is both tender and passionate, providing moments that will undoubtedly tug at the heartstrings.

I have just a couple of minor critiques to mention, although they didn't diminish my overall enjoyment of the book. Occasionally, the pacing felt slightly inconsistent, causing my attention to waver at times. Additionally, I experienced some confusion regarding the setting and time period of the story. While there are references to Earth, the fictional places mentioned and the fantastical environment create an ambience that seems removed from our reality, making it slightly unclear where exactly the events take place.

Despite these minor concerns, "The Demon's Deal" is a spellbinding read that skillfully blends romance, magic, and mystery. The unique world-building and well-developed characters make for an enjoyable journey that will leave readers eagerly anticipating the next installment in the series.

Independent reviewer for B3, I was gifted my copy of this book.

The thing I love, I mean absolutely ADORE about reviewing for the various blogs that I do is this: finding NEW authors and watching them smash it out the park with their first book.

Because this IS Alexander's (that I can see!) first book and I freaking LOVED it!

Calla is kidnapped, and ends up in Rylan's household. First time he sees her, he knows she is someone special. He just didn't know how special to him she would turn out to be!

There is magic here, and a demon who is sweetest thing, until crossed and Cross feels just how much Rylan feels for Calla, even if at that point they weren't sure themselves. There is a plot that went in a direction I really didn't see coming at me, and I loved that!

I loved that Calla challenges Rylan, on every level, but she doesn't fear him nor his true self. She is a curious soul, who Rylan matches with his knowledge.

I loved the slow burn between them, but when they DO get it on?? Oh my days! So hawt!

I loved the supporting cast too! Sometimes, the supporting cast aren't as well developed as the main cast, but here? I loved the hints we get about various characters, and I wanted to see a certain pair happy here, but I think, after a quick look, they will be, but not just yet, in their own book! The cat and the owl also made interesting reading and I do wonder if there are more to them than they portray here.

So, to sum up: some smexy times, some dark and deadly times, some dangerous times for Calla, some emotional times, some surprising times and lots and lots of fun times!

a thoroughly smashing first book, please write the next one!

The world building was great and easy to follow. I loved Morticia, and Archimedes. The side characters had a lot of depth to them with interesting backstories, not a single one of them was a throw away character. The dark academia vibe was great as well. I enjoyed learning about the different magic types. The ending was a good happy ending without the need of an accidental pregnancy. Which I was worried about how Calla was acting towards the end.

What I was frustrated with Rylan though as a character. He was very much “touch her and you die” but then he started to give whiplash with his thoughts and actions. When he accused her of something- a very important plot point- everyone in the room was defending her, but not him. He was angry to the point where he would just throw her under the bus and didn’t even consider things rationally. Then he justified it by saying he feels guilty for thinking it (because that’s how things are justified right?) But he expects Calla to trust him because he has never “shown her a reason to distrust him,” but neither has she and he immediately jumps the gun on her supposed “betrayal.” Then, he never tells her about his misgivings and when she asked for space after a big reveal SHE apologised and he omitted the truth about what he had said. It got glossed over by him and all the other characters too, after that I am not sure Calla is truly in the best place for herself. I will give him credit though he knew how to punish those who had physically hurt Calla. The author got creative with how Rylan punished those who wronged Calla and that was a good read.

The Demons Deal by L Alexander was a very emotional and romantically sweet fantasy romance.

In this novel, we follow Calla who has been sold to a household after losing all of her memories. She's not treated very well by the staff of the house, until the Baron comes home and realizes how she's been handled. The master of the house immediately makes reparations in order to make her feel more comfortable. There's no denying the instant attraction between the two of them. Rylan, the head of the household, instantly moved her upstairs into his quarters. The attraction really picks up from there although it's a bit before we get to any hot and heavy spice. The spice is very decent and not at all cringey. It is open door, but I would not call it smut imo. Rylan offers to help. Kayla unlock her magic which seems to be suppressed, we're also trying to bring forth her memories. Calls takes on many of his employees as found family, and it is a very sweet relationship between several of them. We also have a few animal companions that have special abilities as well which makes this an extra fun read. Of course, there are ups and downs and plots and twists but I cannot give those away because you need to read this book! I really enjoyed it, and I look forward to any more that might be following in the series.

This is not a usual genre for me. I am not at all sure why I chose this book or what I was expecting when I began reading it. But, having said that, I will certainly read this author’s books in the future. The story was one surprise after another. It started off with Calla being kidnapped, then sold, magically branded to block her memory and destroy her magic, starved, made to feel worthless and mistreated in her new home. Of all these things, though, the worst of all was her memories were lost. She didn’t know who she was, where she came from or even from where she was taken.

When the demon archmage Rylan, powerful lord of the manner house where she now lived, returned home after a long absence he immediately gravitated toward her and recognized her as his probable fated mate. From that moment of introduction he made it his goal to protect her and help restore her memory. Little did either of them know what that would entail.

This book is so well written, the story so compelling, that I could not put it down. It's an exciting read to be sure.

This book is honestly an amazing book!!!

If your looking for a little bit of everything look here:
-Paranormal
-Smut
-Mystery
-Magic
-Darama
-An amazing plot!!!

First off I am a sl*t for dual POVs so that had my heart right away.

We start off where out FMC gets abducted from her house in the middle of the night by this awful couple and their daughters. The couple tries to make an extra buck off of the situation and sell her to a manor along the travels. Did I mention our FMC was cursed and does not remember anything from or of her life before the manor. We come to find out that our MMC is the master of the manor, the demon prince himself, Rylan. We come to find out that our FMC, or as she named herself , Calla, and Rylan are mates. Their story isn't a completely easy one, but have to grow and learn about themselves and how to make this work so they can have their HEA.

This was a really enjoyable story. The story was well written, and the characters well developed. I noticed a few grammatical errors but nothing extreme. I will say there were moments my attention drifted but honestly that's on me as recently I've had a hard time focusing on things. Despite my lack of focus at times I still thought the plot was compelling and when I could focus it had me on the edge of my seat. The mystery behind Calla's missing memories and the connection it had with other plots of the book was smoothly done. I've read stories where authors have attempted something similar, and the execution didn't flow well ruining the overall storyline.

And even though the description says there is a guaranteed happily ever after I still had my worries about the fate of our cinnamon roll heroine and her demon prince. Of course, the author managed to wrap that up perfectly as well. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series!

Well, this was so slow paced, that it lost my interest quickly. There’s really no world building to help orient you into the story. Maybe if more had been added to the first chapter, to explain who she really is, or why those people bound her or made her forget everything, but there was no info there, only her getting sold into servitude after she forgets everything. It made it hard to get into the story and want to see what happens, especially when you have no clue to where the plot is going or who she is. I think the first chapter didn’t do its work as the hook to get me interested, and everything went downhill from there. I put it down to go out to eat with my family, and couldn’t bring myself to pick it back up when I got home.

At my age (62), life is way too short & my time is too important to force myself to read a book I'm not enjoying, especially when there are so many other books out there waiting to be read.

Mmmm mmm mmm. I have never loved a demon like this before. He's protective and honorable, a true definition of a cinnamon roll and honorable and he has horns! What else can a woman want?

Our heroine, is kidnapped. And cursed. But she's taken to the one place she needed to be. She goes THROUGH it, let me tell you. She always remains someone who's gonna keep on. Her circumstances aren't making her a pity party.

Our man guy is a mystery. Which I like. All the cards don't necessarily need to be on the table all at once. He's had something happen that's brought on a lot of guilt which makes him even more protective of our girl.

This is fantasy but it included fantasy that I've not read about in a novel before so it felt kinda fresh to me. I enjoyed all the side characters we got to meet. Especially the cat!

There are some spicy times, it's not a closed door romance. I enjoyed it, and I hope to read more in this universe.

This is an epic book filled with love, loss, steam, action, understanding, caring and surprises.
Calla is kidnapped but looses her memory. She is then sold to Rylan’s residence.
This story is full or surprises and it does not turn out how you think it will.
Calla is initially loss, but quickly finds her confidence.
Rylan is harsh but fair. He steers an honest line with his staff and as he us hinest with them, he expects it in return.
I was interested in this story from page one and before I know it I was sucked into this interesting, new world.
This story is filled with some great characters and has the opportunity to strike out in many directions as it has got us partially getting to know some interesting secondary characters.
I really enjoyed this book and cannot wait to read the next in this series.

The only disappointment I have with this book is that it ended. I want more and more and more. L. Alexander does a FANTASTIC job with the world building and creating her characters. Not only do you fall in love with the main characters, but the side ones as well (Hello, Mangus! Gimme more!) I'm the first to admit that fantasy/pnr isn't my normal genre, so I had doubts, but I was sucked in from the first page and couldn't put it down! I stayed up way too late to finish this book and I'm already waiting for more!!
You NEED to read this book if you like protective broody demons who are really cinnamon rolls for their girls, an inquisitive heroine who doesn't back down when presented with a challenge, and a wonderful cast of characters that'll leave you feeling like you're right there in the action with them!

10/5 stars for me and i'll be waiting impatiently for the next!

A solid, well plotted, long read

The pace of the plot is slower in this book, but that is to make time for the character development - which is excellent. The story focusses very heavily on our main couple, with hints for future couples only coming later in the book. Our characters are all very likeable and their motivations are understandable throughout. The world building is relatively basic in this book, although it feels like the foundations are laid for much more extensive exploration later in the series. Some character interactions felt a little thin and formulaic, however it didn’t really detract from the enjoyment of the story. I am looking forward to the next in this series.

Full disclosure: I was given an ARC of the book, however this review is my own honest opinion.

This book was such a fun read!
The world building was very detailed and I loved that. This way I can really picture it when I'm reading and that's one of my favourite things to do.
The characters were well written as well. Calla speaks her mind, she doesn't hold back, startling people with her honesty. Rylan is a swoon-worthy demon who's connection with Calla was intriguing to say the least. I want to mention the side characters as well, I loved them! Especially Magnus. He's got some banter!

All the twists and turns, undeniable connection, action, anticipation and sexyness were a joy to read. This book was a great start to the series and I can't wait to read more from this author.

Ps: I’ve had the pleasure of receiving this book as an ARC and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I honestly really loved this book! In the beginning it started out a little slow and I almost DNF, however I decided to stick it out and I’m so glad that I did! Because the plot was great and once I got past the first few slower chapters I was hooked, I honestly couldn’t put the book down.

This was the first book I’ve read by L. Alexander and it definitely won’t be the last. This book really has everything; love, angst, magic, fighting and of course a strong female character. The love story between Calla and Rylan is so sweet and touching, though there is some angst at the end it’s not overdone and is the perfect amount. I can’t wait to see what stories the rest of the series brings.

Possible spoilers!

This book I was kind of skeptical about but was soon pleasantly surprised on how much I loved it! In the beginning Calla was taken from her home had her memories wiped and then sold to an awful man and woman. The way that it was written out was amazing because it gave you a small glimpse of what her life might of been before leaving you as in the dark as Calla is.
When Rylan showed up I just knew Calla would be facing a whole new world from the dingy closet and scarce meals she had been receiving prior. Not only did Rylan save her but also challenges her. He is such a good guy who continues to act like the worst man because that’s who he sees himself as.
I love it and I highly recommend it if you love fated mates and good bad boys!

Rating this book was very hard as there were sections of the book that had me completely captivated while other sections felt really slow and a bit boring. Especially the beginning of the book and the ending was really interesting and I loved reading the book. In the middle it felt like there was not that much plot and I was just waiting and waiting for something to happen.

The FMC can certainly take care of herself which I absolutely loved. The MMC on the other hand seemed to do EVERYTHING for the FMC and he was kind of a push-over which I didn’t like at all.

Overall I gave the book 3 stars because I felt like there could have been a more interesting middle section and the MMC needs work.

I was super excited when I found out my favorite indie author was dipping her toes into my favorite genre.

From beginning to end, the growth of the main characters is well paced and engaging. You'll even meet some adorable side characters that I hope will be staples in future stories set in this world.

All the points are hit and leave you turning the pages.
Who did this to you?
Fated Mates.
Magic and Curses...
A cinnamon roll of a demon and a bad-ass witch in the making. Or maybe a bad-ass witch that needs to remember?

Either way, you can't go wrong with this, it definitely deserves to be added to your tbr and enjoyed on a cozy weekend.
