Picked up this book from the author at a local Barnes & Noble. Was really excited about the premise of the FMC family being involved in criminal activities and some of the dangers the story could unfold.

The book starts with a little surprise, some cheeky comments, and a tease. Love! But the writing style is unevenly paced. *SPOILERS INCOMING*. The author spends two pages on the FMC just making tea but then her first date with Peter is like two paragraphs? Wish the author would’ve dived more into the Compound and the history of the family rivals.

I was enjoying the book until chapter 14. From there, the rest of the book feels like it was written from a different voice or the version of this story that’s NSFW. 30 pages straight of sex, then two pages of breakfast at the start of chapter 15 before more sex, then her parents die?! No addressing maybe what MMC was truly doing during his time away and no questions or details that he killed the rest of the Le family?! There’s so many unresolved story plots that it felt like this story could’ve been executed well as a series but was just crammed into one book.

Also justice for Jenny. Set her up with Peter maybe atleast at the end versus letting us know the terrible situation she’s in and then end the book?!

I really enjoyed this! It’s quite spicy and forbidden love with her bodyguard so like … hard yes. And it opens on a sex scene which not enough books do.

There are some strange pacing issues toward the end. She does a lot of things that seem like they would take weeks or months to do but they happen over a few days? Sure ok. And then she like orders someone’s murder when the whole premise of the book is that she wants to leave her parents’ “business”? It didn’t really seem like her personality…? Those were my only issues tho.

Jenny is in love with her best friend right? We all see it??

I *hate* a third act breakup. I realize that is a personal preference.

I didn’t super love how she treated Peter but I can’t say we haven’t all been there. I mean like we have right?

It seems like Jenny will get her own book after this which I will 100% read!

I found this novel thanks to TikTok and bought the ebook version when I was sick last week.
I'm personally not satisfied with the ending, because it came very suddenly in my opinion.
But overall, if you search for a spicy romance between a plus-sized Vietnamese woman in her 30s and her Hispanic bodyguard, this one is for you.
Rainie Dang definitely knows how to write spicy chapters, but also lovely scenes, which makes you wanna read as fast as possible to see what is coming next.

I met the author at a book fair. She sold me with her happy and animated synopsis of the book. I had to buy it. It was a quick read. Refreshingly positive outlook. Not much of a plot and the ending was rushed. Good palette cleanser.
