He’s my older brother’s best friend. Always in control–until he kisses me.
Ethan Harrington—my brother’s perfect, untouchable, and annoyingly gorgeous best friend–is my next-door neighbor and always watching me.
To the world, he's the university’s golden boy on a fast track to the NFL. To him, I'm the reckless party girl who needs to grow up.
Except, I’m not that girl anymore. I barely sleep, unable to forget the night that changed everything for me.
After trying to prove I could still be the fun person I used to be, I try to sneak back into my sorority after curfew. Ethan is outside, watching and waiting, like he always is. Protective and overbearing.
As we argue, he can’t seem to stop staring at my mouth. My brother has made it clear to all his teammates I’m off limits, but that was never a problem for Ethan. He’s a virgin, saving himself for his future wife. He’d never want me.
Or so I thought.
When his iconic control snaps, his lips crash into mine, leaving me breathless.
Skyler is a romance novel reader first and foremost. Her books feature strong heroines who sometimes make their heroes cry, but only because they deserve it. After all, if romance isn’t angsty, is it even worth it?
I loved this book!! Skyler Mason wrote such a beautiful story. We so rarely get to see a man in the relationship who wants to wait until marriage, and this book delivers it. Ethan is a cinnamon roll and Lily is a fierce woman who isn’t willing to take anything from anyone. together, they made each other better. they bring out strengths in each other and eliminate weaknesses. Being part of Skyler’s ARC team was so meaningful for me, as I’ve never been part of one before and I’m so glad “Sin” was my first one. If you love a wholesome love story, this is absolutely worth the read.
Ethan and Lily’s chemistry just flew off the page. Her personality is amazing and made me laugh so many times. I enjoyed the fact that it’s Ethan who’s made the vow of celibacy (not sure I’ve read a book where it’s the guy before), and also that it is clear he’s done it not because of a true religious belief but more because of him always wanting the moral high ground. The author’s books all deal with this topic really sensitively and realistically in my view.
There’s a fair amount of angst in this book which I enjoyed. It didn’t feel gratuitous and did fit the characters and plot, and I did love that the MC realised how much growing he had to do to become a better and happier person. The spice level is high but also fit the plot and characters.
Overall I really really enjoyed this and am grateful to have had the opportunity to read an early copy for review.
Almost DNF’d so many times. Probably as many times as the MMC whined. I get the author is trying to show purity culture is damaging, but it came off more like an after school special than a dig deeper into what said culture is about. Maybe I just hit my limit with book 3 of the same.
Ethan and Lily’s story is my favourite so far. The way these characters were written comes across so raw and real. There was so much learning and growing for these characters that the book has a coming of age vibe. I couldn’t put this book down, Excited for future books in the series.
PS - all the books in this series have been easy to read, a good balance of story and romance, and easy to emotionally connect with the characters
Did I finish this book in one day? Yes. Did the characters annoy me every other chapter? Yes/No depending on the context of the situations. Anyways, if you’ve read any of the other books in this series, would also recommend reading this one if you’re invested into it. However, make sure to check the TW’s beforehand.
I will say this though, if you need a quick romance that has good plot line to it. This is it. I personally enjoyed the development of the book. Lily & Ethan in the long run are good for each other. I think it should have given a more in depth epilogue. There should definitely be more growth but it was overall good. I couldn’t put it down.
I received an ARC copy and absolutely loved this book!
It was a little slow at first but definitely picked up about a quarter of the way through. I loved reading how Lily goes through the motions of her trauma and how Ethan was so protective. Even from the beginning when he was hiding his feelings. He had growth at the end and even acknowledged his shortcomings!
Will definitely keep reading the series!

I’ve read several books by this author. I have to say, I like her style of writing. What I don’t like is how she makes a mockery of purity and a commitment to God, even though purity is a part of the book description.
Lily has been through a trauma that has significantly changed her life. Ethan has watched her from afar, all the while making a vow that he will only ever be with his future wife, so never with her.
Their relationship has a nice build, but his inter turmoil was what frustrated me. He kept talking about how God has abandoned him. God. Doesn’t. Move. We do. Man up and honor your commitment or be responsibility for your choices. Don’t blame God for your faith failure.
I could have enjoyed these books if turning away from God wasn’t a common theme. It’s okay to make a commitment to God and enjoy a future partner.
Let me base it off the fact that I love the first book in the series and like the other too but this one felt off. After finishing book three I was so exited for four but this one really lacked. In the middle I hate the conflict they had and I understand where she was trying to come from but it didn’t sell it. I also hated the nicknames sassy girl??? And I feel we always see it with the brothers best friends, we don’t tell him, he gets mad then his all fine about it. I did really like the clip of Brandon in there that was cutie but all in all I felt like it was all a little rushed I don’t know. I even read the extra epilogue and that felt fast to; you are at an event for awareness and you go do it on the rooftop, I just felt that was a little untalented, rush and some thing for me didn’t add up. It wasn’t terrible tho I enjoyed them but not as much as I have the other.

Lily Greenwood’s life was unraveling. All from what happened six months ago, when her peace left that night. Now when she enters the sorority house and climbs into the bedroom where it happened her brain starts humming, growing louder and more frantic until morning. The tapes of the most frightening, most humiliating, and painful nights of her life rushes back. Clawing at her skin. To avoid scrutiny by the sorority sisters for being out so late walking by herself she climbs in and out of her window.
She hates worrying Kinsley because they shared everything before that night. But she can’t burden her with her darkness. Lily can’t seem to calm her brain and would have defended herself, but Mason threatened legal action. She’s about to go back in through her window she hears footsteps thump behind her, sending a chill up her spine. She whips around, and a tall, broad form is in the darkness. “Did you walk home alone?” asks a deep voice. Damn it. Ethan Harrington.
Her brother’s best friend, and more recently, her nemesis. “Ethan, if I’d screamed, I could have woken up my whole sorority.” She glanced over his shoulder at the Victorian mansion behind him. “Your frat brothers, too.” God, he’s gorgeous. Ethan’s physique shows hours of hard work on the field. As the star wide receiver on the Mission Valley Hawks, he uses his body as a tool. Somehow, that makes him so much hotter. Where the heck is those thoughts coming from? She must be really tired.
His looks have never turned her on before. All he cares about is football like the perfect golden boy he is. “Answer my question,” Ethan says. “Did you walk all the way home from the bars by yourself?” He always assumes my late-night wandering is a trip home from the bars, because that’s exactly what the old Lily would do. Ethan knows her as reckless and immature thanks to her brother, Noah, who introduced them during her first week at Mission Hills University over two years ago.
He can’t see her any other way. Heck if not for what happened with Mason she might still be that party girl. In those early months of freshman year, she spent too much time with him and Noah—following them around to their group hangouts. Following Noah around must have left a lasting impression on Ethan. He can’t stand her, and he makes it brazenly obvious whenever she’s in his presence. “I stayed on well-lit streets,” she says. He shakes his head. “Stupid.”
His high-handedness sparks a fire within her. Holier than thou Ethan thinks she’s much wilder than she really is, and one of her favorite ways to tease him is to lean into his misconception. With a cheeky smile. “I needed to walk off my soreness. I just left an orgy. They were big guys, too. Very well-endowed.” She gestures with her hands a penis size far too large for any human man. He inhales a shaky breath, as if he’s straining for control. “If they were that well-endowed, I’m surprised you’re still in one piece.” she sucks in her lips to fight a smile.
She wasn’t expecting him to play along with her. “They had to warm me up first,” she says. “Lots of foreplay and—” “Okay.” He lifts a hand. “No more about your non-existent orgy. I don’t need to know where you were, but you do need to stop doing this. Promise me in the future, you won’t walk home alone at night.” She can’t make a promise like that. Wandering the streets at night is the only thing that stops her brain. Enough to sleep, but it’s far better than lying restlessly in that bed. “No, I can’t,” I say firmly.
Ethan’s jaw clenches. “Then how about you stop partying on weeknights? She already knew…” His lips purse. “Noah told me you’ve been struggling in school lately.” She knew Noah had been worried about her grades dropping, but how dare he talk to Ethan about it? Ethan is the last person in the world she’d want to see her struggles. He’s too damn perfect, at everything. Hell, he’s a star athlete with excellent grades, and most annoying, a devout Christian who made a chastity pledge.
Practically a celebrity on campus, hundreds of women throwing themselves at him, but he’s saving himself for his future wife, whoever she might be. A woman who would never date a man like Mason. Never let a man like him come into her bedroom and… Let’s just say these two save each other from the strict boxes they find themselves in. One due to childhood abandonment issues that taint his thoughts on how he sees his future for himself.
The other views herself harshly after something very precious was ripped away from her without her consent. Doesn’t matter if she had given it willingly before that time she had not. Now she is in constant fear, isolation, depression, and lack of sleep see how they help each other live again. And most of all find love.
Ethan Harrington thinks in terms of rules and lists. His life is simple as a wide receiver in his college football team - get drafted into NFL, finish college and yes, maintain his purity pledge to his future wife. He might not feel God everyday but knows the strict path to Him. The only thing; or should we say only being; that he cannot seem to control is - Lily Greenwood. Lily who has no rules, who lives life as if she owns it and not the other way round. It does not help matters that her sorority and his frat house are opposite to each other. The history between them is ancient. Don't you just love when there's off-page angst between the MCs?
Lily's always believed in living wild. Taking life by its horns and riding them too. But, the brutal violation of this spirit at the hands of someone else leaves her in a state of pause - willing to reclaim her old self yet shackled by that one night.
Ethan knows something's changed with her. She's seen wandering around late at night alone, her grades seem to plummet still, she does not want to share the reason! Why should she when Ethan's always assumed the worst of her? The thread snaps and the result? A soul searing kiss! It becomes a key to their long locked doors and out comes pouring - the ever present softness, attraction, understanding and support.
She teases him to her heart's desire; he finds it endearing. She makes him flustered/enjoys his discomfort; he lets her. All the while, revelling in the feeling that Lily belong to him and he always has been hers. The dam of their feelings breaks & they give in to each other. But, will they truly become each others? Or is there a threat, a guilt, a promise lurking in the corner waiting to strike and bring their world crumbling down?
Mason, in the final book of this series, brings in her signature blistering chemistry right from the first page. Ethan and Lily have been long in the making and oh! sweet deliverance. The heat turns on instantly; leaving you panting for more! In a short while, she illustrates that true love grants you the freedom to come out of your shackles - mental & physical.
Mason also beautifully highlights that FAITH is of a custom brand variety. You can either make it into the smoke that chokes you or turn in into sweet air destined to make you soar!
Ya’ll….. mmmmf 🫦 That’s all I have to say off the bat.
This book (and series) deals a lot with religion, the associated ideas of being sexually “pure”/chaste, and all the love and lust being held back because of it, which introduces a super hot forbidden element. AND *he’s* the virgin saving himself. I love forbidden tropes, that “no we can’t” push/pull. Giving into temptation despite it… 🫦. Open-door spicy scenes in this one.
This whole series has this trope, Lust being my absolute fave of them, but this book Sin is no exception. I think this series and book could be odd for those who aren’t from this sort of religious background, perhaps difficult to understand, but I think it would still be interesting and hot in any case, plus great characters.
Lily and Ethan’s banter is top notch, the characters are character-ing. I highlighted probably half the damn book because I loved so much of what was there between them in their dialogue and thoughts. Very fun dynamic, and they are so fucking cute together. Wild child (but not really) x strait laced grump (but not really) = excellent. Ethan’s so sweet and Lily’s so sassy, it works out well.
There’s some emotional aspects with Lily’s struggles and Ethan’s understanding himself as well. The connection within that is lovely to read. — A few of my notes as I was reading:
OH GOD all the “I am going to exert my self control” ..can’t wait until it breaks!!
“We couldn’t possibly date, we don’t make any sense together” but they totally do vibes
Protective caretaker, absolutely gone for her and he doesn’t even know it yet.
This is such a horny book.
Oh dear lord when the dam finally breaks… 🥵 🫠🫠 — Do check the trigger warning at the start, as there’s a significant portion of the story revolving around dealing with SA on Lily’s part (not from the MMC).
Overall, excellent book. Fun dynamic, good characters, and super hot. Definitely recommend if the content/tropes spark an interest. I can also recommend the earlier 3 books in the series. Go read!! 5/5 ⭐️
This book was a solid 5 ⭐ stars, it was a bit short but absolutely one of my favorite reads this year. It has my most favourite tropes ever - boy obsessed + brother's best friend + virgin H + grumpy/sunshine like come ON I won't shut up this was so good.
Although this book is a standalone, I would recommend reading Lust . This is Brandon's story and he's Ethan's older brother and a pastor. lol, it was hot. aaand you get to meet Lily and Ethan ❤️❤️❤️
One of the things that I loved about them was how perfectly they complement each other - Lily being so carefree that helped Ethan to loosen up, and Ethan being the support that Lily needed. It was perfect!
I love Lily Greenwood. She was strong sassy, and hilarious ha! I can't with her comebacks, it was so funny. And the best thing is that she wasn't one to be embarrassed easily, so it was refreshing to read a heroine like her. I adored her when she was with Ethan, and the big guy endearment?? swoon
Now Ethan Harrington, though. I never felt so single 😭😭 he was perfect. He may be too much at times but I can't seem to find any flaw, to me. I love love love how obsessed and possessive he was with Lily like control error 404 not found when it comes to her. I think my favourite part was the nose tap, that was hella cute. Another favourite part was where he ehem... you'll see.
Thank you Skyler, for giving me the chance to read and review this book - it means a lot to me, I’ve been very obsessed with Lily and Ethan since Lust ❤️
This one was really enjoyable. It's hard to get out of the preconceived notions people have about you. True or not.
If you haven't read any of the others in the Purity series, it's ok. This one can totally be read as a standalone. If you really like more backstory about this series, this book really fits the most into book 3. This is about MC Brandon from book 3's little brother.
I loved both of these characters. Ethan Harrington is the big guy on campus. He's the best football player and he lives a very regimented life. He follows a schedule and is putting football and school above everything else. Even having a relationship. He's saving himself for marriage.
Lily is his best friend Noah's little sister. She's his total opposite. She loves to party and have fun. But lately, she hasn't been living it up too much. Her grades are falling, and her brother Noah is worried. Who better to help her out than the guy who always "puts first things first," his best friend Ethan? The guy who lives near her and definitely doesn't have a thing for her.
I enjoyed both of them. They are literally opposites attract, but you could really see the attraction between the two even though there was some denial going on!
Ethan has been having some issues with his beliefs, which I really felt for. It's really hard when you don't feel close to God. But our girl Lily has been having it way harder. No spoilers, but it was honestly the best thing for her to have someone watching her so closely. She had been keeping herself so closed off.
I have read every book in the Purity series. In order? Of course not. That’s not how I roll. I’ve even endured the Faithless Duet—IYKYK. And they’re all five stars. Yes, “Faithless,” too. I’d been waiting for Ethan’s story for a while, and it was worth it.
Lily’s brother, Noah’s best friend and roommate Ethan, has vowed to stay “pure” until marriage. Everyone knows Ethan is saving himself for his future wife, whoever that is. His focus has always been his strong relationship with G0d, school, and his path to the NFL. But Lily disrupts all of that.
Lily projects the wild party girl image and often uses humor to cover up what is happening to her. Something is going on that she is struggling with that is impacting her day-to-day life, which in turn affects her academics. Ethan ends up helping her with her studies, but as their friendship grows, he questions everything he believes.
Much of the topics in “Sin” are heavy but written in a relatable way. The emotions pulled from this story were often challenging to read because what Lily went through does happen. And how she responded to it broke my heart. But I loved the story and how it was told. And I especially loved Ethan and how he evolved with his beliefs.
Book 4 in the purity series. Good Christian boy, Ethan, is saving himself for his future wife. So why does a wholly inappropriate, sexy, redhead keep invading his thoughts? Lily does not want to get married, she's wild and definitely NOT a virgin. But Lily is hiding something dark behind her sassy smile and saucy comebacks. And it seems like the only person who can get through to the real Lily is the very man who's praying nightly to avoid her temptation.
This series is very near to my heart as a former church girlie who grew up in purity culture. Seriously, I once had my Sunday School teacher bring in her white wedding dress to show a bunch of 12 year old how pure we needed to be. Twelve year old me wasn't buying it, but I've since forged my own relationship with God that does not involve guilt or impossible promises. I loved these two and hope Ethan eventually, with the help of his hot as F pastor brother, finds his own relationship. Listen to me talking like these people exist. Lily was perfect for him and vice versa. She was the controlled tornado he needed in his orderly life, and he was the calm she needed when her thoughts turned stormy. Highly recommend this read.
I received an ARC for an honest review. 3.5 stars but rounding up to 4. 2 🌶 🌶
We follow Lily, a former party girl whose life was changed by her ex, and Ethan, a college football star and the goodiest goody-goody to ever goody. Lilys brother Noah is desperate to be the good big brother and get her life back on track when her grades start slipping and who better to help tame and bring structure to his sister than his best friend Ethan, Mr Bible thumper himself, who is saving his virginity for his future wife. He's the one guy who can be trusted not to fall for her, but when his life coaching starts, it's already too late. He would would gladly give up his eternal soul if it means spending one night with her.
I ABSOLUTELY ADORE this series! I am so grateful to have received this ARC, especially after how much I loved Lust (book 3). The themes from this one weren't exactly my cup of tea but even so I loved skylers writing and ability to make you feel like you can relate to the characters even when you've never experienced what they went through. The series can be read out of order, but I highly recommend reading at least book 3 before diving into this one....then go back and read 1 and 2 because the whole series is amazing and deserves more love
4.5/5 stars I really loved this book! It was sweet, emotional, and angsty! A great addition to the Purity series.
Lily is struggling in the aftermath of an abusive relationship (check trigger warnings for known triggers) and her friends and family have no idea. When her family finds out about her dropping grades, her brother enlists the help of his best friend Ethan to help her get back on track. Ethan is the campus golden boy and is openly saving himself for marriage. However, the feelings he has been harboring for Lily
Although this book was on the shorter side, it really packed an emotional punch. I love the delicate way the author wrote about Lily’s experience and how Ethan helped her with her recovery. Lily did such a good job masking her real feelings that no one in her life had any idea how badly she was hurting and why. Ethan also struggled throughout the story with his decision to wait until marriage. He evaluated why he made his decision and how meeting Lily changed his priorities.
Sin is the fourth book in the purity series. I have been loving these books so much and I’m so excited to see what the author writes next.
Honestly I don’t have much to say about this book because it was pretty good and I don’t have any problems with it. I loved how they showed emotions for all there problems and talked about how they needed time before opening up about what Lily and Ethan had both been through. Most books don’t really show that emotion and that nervousness. There love was very pure except for all there issues and you can tell they truly care for each other.
Even though I did get early access to the book and it did take me almost a month to read it, each time I jumped back into reading it I was pulled farther out of the book slump I was in and I definitely recommend it if your in a reading slump!
I also loved how god was a very big part of the book and how it was repeated many times that it’s ok to go off your path and change how you perceive god. He’s not there to make life miserable, so much more was said but it did make me second guess how I’m living life with god and if I’m living the life that is going to lead me down a miserable path and if I should change the way I see god (in a good way).
Oh Skylar Mason, you've done it again! Every book in the Purity series is like a balm to my religious trauma recovery, but this one takes the cake. Lily is our strong leading woman whose vision for what she wants and doesn't want is unshakeable, even in the face of unrelenting bullshit. Ethan is our desperate cinnamon roll who looks for stability by doing everything right.
On the writing side of things, Mason keeps the pace moving forward so nothing stalls or peters out. She has two distinct voices for our lead characters and kept me looking forward to seeing the other's perspective. I rarely like both points of views but she wrote the hell out of Ethan. Reading the fourth installment was a lovely way to spend an afternoon.
This was such a romantic suspenseful page turner with enemies to lover's trope. Ethan, a Christian with a strict moral code ends up being Lily's life coach. Per the request of his teammate and best friend, Noah, her big brother he steps in to help Lily start doing better in college. However, no one knew the true reason to why Lily started struggling in school. Lily and Ethan become friends and learn more about each other realizing that they are a better match than they originally determined. During their time together they realize that they have to fight for what they have if they are going to make it as a couple.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This book is a total sizzler! 🔥 It's got all the classic tropes we love - forbidden romance, enemies to lovers, and that irresistible older brother's BFF vibe. The sexual tension between our girl and Ethan is off the charts, and when that kiss finally happens? chef's kiss 👨🍳💋 The whole virgin hero thing adds a spicy twist, and the college setting is perf for some drama. Sure, it's a bit cliché in places, but who cares when it's this steamy? If you're in the mood for a guilty pleasure read that'll have you turning pages faster than you can say "touchdown," this one's a solid pick. Just don't let your own big bro catch you reading it! 😉.

Skyler mason does not disappoint!! Her writing pulls me in every god damn time. The only reason I didn’t give it a 5⭐️ was because it did feel less smutty than her other books, especially in this series. Which is my favorite series!!
I love the way she handled the nuance in rape and assault in this story. It was so beautiful, I will probably read it again and again. I deeply related to Lily’s fear of being caged up. And I also related to ethan’s desire for morals and principles. And the way he fights for justice. This was such a beautiful story. I will always love and adore sky’s work ♥️ thank you.

When I first found out Brandon's brother was getting his own book, I knew I was in for a good time. Like the rest of the purity series, this one also features a character (in this case Ethan) who is challenged by his faith. Lily, aka Ethan's "sassy girl", also has her own trauma/challenges to go through. For a romance set in a college setting, it was much more emotional than I expected and very impactful. There was also plenty of fun with our duo and their love of sarcasm. I will say the first half of the book was a little slow for me, but by that 50% mark I was fully invested. Highly recommend this read!
