An interesting insight into Aman, the IDF's military intelligence branch and arguably the most important of the Israeli intelligence triangle. Katz provides a history of the organization's formation as well as the successes and failures that Aman has experienced until the mid-1990's. The author thoroughly explains the events preceding major IDF operations and recounts the perspective of the major decision-makers. Mistakes by Israeli intelligence aren't glossed over, but rather noted and explored in-depth. Katz even notes incidences of excessive violence, but states that the operating procedures guiding IDF action include the avoidance (or limiting) of civilian casualties. A good read for anyone interested in intelligence and its place in military operations.
