They arrive alive. They always leave dead. But first, they give me their confessions and this time they're all about 'murder for hire'.
My name is Jack Steen, and for those who arrive on my 'death' ward at the Asylum, I'm the last face many will see before they die. I am the night nurse at an Asylum for the Criminally Insane, and most of my patients know me as their Angel of Death. I know them as mass murderers, rapists, and serial killers - among other things.
Here's what they come on my floor, they give me their deathbed confession, and I help to make their death less painful. There's a catch, I want the real story, the one they haven't told anyone else.
The majority of these killers are expert manipulators. They could be playing their final game with me by messing with my head. Now, maybe they're messing with yours too.
Inside this book are 4 DeathBed Confessions that relate to KILLERS FOR
Patient Ernest is a cold-blooded killer. Period. Patient Tommy is the killer in the sea you don’t want to meet. Patient Shannon is a black, red, and green widow. Patient Jimmy Dale has a thing for hunting the two-legged prey.
There is swearing in this book. And some stories might be a trigger for something you have a hard time handling. But, these are the confessions of serial killers, mass murderers and such.
I'm a bitt disappointed in this one, I'll admit - mainly because the final pages of book 7 implied that there'd be some sort of overarching plot, what with the tattoo stuff and the Warden's obscure secrecy, but there was nothing about that in this book. It felt like all the earlier ones. It wouldn't have been an issue for me had I not been promised a bigger plot in the last book, because then I'd have known to just expect another confession bundle. It stung.
I love all of these! Please keep them coming. Always a page turner and I’m obsessed. Also the sneak peak of the new series has me intrigued. Excited for more, hate that I’m caught up!
I've read all the books in this series and have enjoyed each and every one. I enjoy the different stories and themes along with the authors style of writing. I just wish they were edited better - thus the deduction of a half star. A solid 4.5. Keep them coming Jack!
This one had two quotes in it that I really liked and wanted to share because it was unexpected to see in this kind of book.
“you are one hell of a person. You are amazing; you are a god or goddess, and you have a strength most of us can never understand, and the fact that you are here, reading this, tells me just how freaking amazing you are.”
I must say… Jack Steen showed out with the Asylum Confessions series! They don’t necessarily have to be read in order, but my brain doesn’t operate outside of order. So yeah 😂 He has a way of story telling that brings you right in, and doesn’t let go until the ride is over. I loved the relationship he had with Ike, and the care he had for his staff. Jack was a great narrator for all of the confessions he chose to listen to. Of the 8 books in the series, my absolute fav’s were: Book 1: The Asylum Confessons Book 3: Murder for Marriage Book 4: Killers and Cults Book 6: Merry With All That Murder (#1 fav for me) Book 7: Serial Killers
ALL of the confessions were ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. Some had you looking at these people crazy (ex: Ken and Barbie). Some you completely understood why they snapped (Ex: Sister Rose). Others made you cry real tears (ex: Bucket).
Jack did something magical with these series and I thoroughly enjoyed them. I think you will, too.
Title: The Asylum Confessions (Books 1-8) Author: Jack Steen Genre: Thriller | Suspense Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
These stories were okay, a little slow and most were boring but I was still intrigued enough to continue reading.
Ernest: This was incredibly short so not much I can say really. It was okay, not much to it but still a decent read.
Captain Tommy: This was better than the first, he was more bragging than anything else and probably didn’t deserve the peaceful death gave to him. It was a good story, was intriguing and I read it quickly.
Shannon: Another decent one, it was okay and interesting to see all her different relationships, all bad so it’s no wonder she did what she did.
Jimmy dale: This was boring, I totally understood why he killed the people he did, they deserved it completely. However, the story was just slow for me.

This is easily the best installment in this series yet, by far. I absolutely loved Shannon and JD's stories. Ernest and Tommy were good too, but Shannon and JD, they just kind of hit you right in the heart. I do appreciate the warning inside the book regarding JD's confession, as a survivor of SA. I still went ahead and read it, and honestly, I'm glad I did. Honestly, as much as I was anticipating this coming out, I wasn't expecting to get so emotional while reading. Steen has definitely leveled up his writing, and I can't wait to see what's in store next.
I loved this one. The last story or confession was perfect because I can see or believe someone doing this in reality. I actually found myself liking the man telling his confession. Sounds creepy but true. I will be counting down until another confession book comes out. But until then I may checked out his other books. This man knows how to write and keep me looking for more.
I can’t speak highly enough about these books! It took me a bit to read it because I was reading multiple books at once. I also was trying to prolong this book because I only have the Christmas one left and I’m saving that for the holidays… which means I’m fresh out of Asylum books at the moment 😭 I’ve never been more sad to be finished with the published books in a series. I may have to do a reread.
The 8th instalment of “The Asylum Confessions” gives us the confessions of another four patients. In this book, we hear from Ernest, Captain Tommy, Shannon and Jimmy Dale, all of who have done murder for hire. Hearing their stories makes you almost side with them and their actions. I had really hoped that we would learn more about the bartender but maybe in the next book. I once again recommend not only this book, but the entire series. Ensure to check the trigger warnings. 3.5 stars
Jack's books are awesome. I'm so hooked now and find myself anxiously awaiting the next as soon as I'm done. I'm also excited about his newer works as well! Definitely don't miss out on Jack's books in general but I'd start with this series. You won't want to put them down.
I loved this book just as much as the other asylum confessions books. I preordered it and couldn’t wait for it to come out. When I started it, I devoured it in no time like the other asylum confessions books. I am eagerly awaiting the next installment 🙂
Another batch of wickedly delightful confessions from the Asylum. I particularly enjoyed the last two stories of the widow and the vigilante. I’m not really sure the vigilante story entirely fits with contract killer theme but I do see the connection and it was an interesting direction to take. Looking forward to the next batch as always! 📫💉⛴️🌊🕷️💍🦌🍂
These books are so good and so unique. I really enjoy reading them. I’m the kind of reader authors hate, I’m sure. I read a book and forget all about it. I don’t forget these books.
This is one of my favorite series….i highly recommend anyone and everyone to read these deathbed confessions of the criminally insane or not….some just have money for good lawyers and are able to choose going here. Regardless, these books are extremely interesting….
I absolutely love reading these books whether they're real or not, I can't stop reading them. As always, Jack listens to the last confessional of his asylum patient before he helps them sleep permanently. Can't wait to read the next in the series.
Hours....it only took me hours to devour this wonderful, lil nugget~ and I'm normally a slow reader. I can't seem to get enough of these confessions~ maybe they appeal to my sadistic side???
Exactly as described and shows both stories of individuals as well as the story of the man interviewing them. Love how each one is so different and reads like you are actually talking to these people. Every single book is different and the confessions always shock you
The only thing that bothers me about these books is the grammar and punctuation. Other than that, this was a great, quick read. JD was absolutely my favorite patient of this book. I love a book that has me rooting for the murderer.
This book was awesome!! Loved these stories but do be warned one of them could be triggering if your a survivor of trauma only thing that bugged me spelling mistakes but I’ll let that slide as it was a good book!!
The first book was OKAY I felt like the idea was good but there was something lacking from the stories I felt myself disassociating through some of them and wanted more from them - I decided not to go through with the rest of the series
This is a good book to read and keep you wondering if any of these stories are real or these people.. I have read almost all of jacksteens books and I need more and I want to buy his package for the monthly thing but I’m to broke
I am disappointed to give this 2 stars since I love his writing and this series. I did find the "murder for hire" theme just wasn't my cup of tea and that's okay! He's still such a good writer and I will read anything he writes but this just didn't hit for me.
Shannon was a favorite as i definitely related to her stories, but this book kept me interested . In other books in the series, they dragged, and some really resonated with me. While i don’t condone what they did, i still understand why.
This book had the most interesting stories of the series. I feel like my prayers were sneered and we focused on the insane part rather than the crimes itself. This series is a good way to get out of a reading slump due to the fast chapters and no nonsense writing.
