Ann Marie ("Annie") Frohoff grew up in sunny Southern California. As a teen and young adult she spent her time frequenting and living in nearly every beachside city up and down the coast. She settled in Hollywood at 19 working in film and TV. Soon her itch to keep moving took over again, taking her to Hawaii for a time and then back to LA.
She’s now settled in the South Bay area of Los Angeles with her family. Her wanderlust and propensity to live life out loud has brought her many life experiences she shares through her character(s).
Her Heavy Influence Series is out now! Available in paperback & everywhere eBooks are sold: SKID OUT (A Prequel Novella), FIRST KISS (#1), FEVER PITCH (A Novella #1.5), BROKEN NOTES (#2), HIGHER OCTAVE (A Novella #2.5) and LOVE AMPLIFIED (#3) ~ Now a new spin-off novel will be coming in 2020 - RHYTHM.
The series is a story of young, reckless love between a rising rock star and his younger muse, spanning 10 years of their tumultuous and passionate relationship. An original soundtrack has been written and recorded for this series, of which the lyrics appear in the pages of the books. (Alternative Rock Genre).
Annie has now delved into the supernatural fantasy world, drawing inspiration from song lyrics, friends and travel; building realms of vastly complex characters and plot lines; weaving history, fantasy and heavy doses of romance together. You will be kept turning the pages of “The Zodiac Wars" and “Precious Metal: The Prince and the Gypsy” book series in the future. Both series of books are currently in development.
Okay where to start with this review because man oh man Ann knows how to rip a heart right out and put it back together. To say that I was sitting at the edge of my chair screaming at the book and yelling at certain characters is such an understatement. I have to say that love is the craziest thing ever. When you love someone you love hard and no matter what happens to that person you need them and they need you. They are your drug.
Aly and Jake have gone to hell and back and have come out bruised and broken and apart. The two are a bomb waiting to happen because the love they have for one another but they are also poison for one another and years apart has not changed anything other than their love has grown stronger.
Jake has gone through so much and if you have read the first two books you know what he and Aly have gone through. He is on tour with his band and living in New York living the life except he misses his Aly and needs her. Aly decides for her 18 birthday she is going to go see Jake. She wants him for her birthday and when she goes to London to see him they fall deeper in love and what transpires out of that visit will set a course for these two that will have you yelling and screaming like I did because holy mother Jake the things that happens are just amazing.
I can't wait for Broken Notes to see what happens between Jake and Aly. Poor Nathan I love him to pieces! Who is Nathan well you have to read the books to find out!
After finishing First Kiss last night I just had to continue with the series. So I moved on to Fever Pitch, a novella.
Spoilers for First Kiss will happen here.
Aly has just turned 18! Whaaat?! That was a quick three years. Where did the time go? Well, anyway, Aly and Jake kept in touch for those years and has now decided to go and visit him in London. Her parents can't really say no because she's 18 so she hops on a plane to visit her first love.
The test here is to see if things are still the same. They haven't touched each other in three years. They have only seen each other and spoken to each other through email and Skype. It's going to be intense.
This is a nice addition to the story. I like to see Aly take control of her life and she takes a big chance flying to a different country to see a boy she hasn't seen in three years, but she does it. And it's cute and sweet and adorable and you can feel the love. The chemistry is still there.
As usual, there has to be something angsty. I'm not sure why this couldn't have been a cute, happy story, but I'm not the author....Anyway, an on-again off-again boyfriend, an on-again off-again girlfriend, sick bandmates, and a mother that just never disappears leads Aly and Jake down a twisted path of love and patience.
I guess the big question now is: Will they make it??!!
I actually hope they do, but I'm a sucker for a HEA.
Read Book 1 before you read this novella. You need to know what happened to the characters before you read this review.
I read the first book in this series, First Kiss (Heavy Influence #1) about 4 months ago that I stumbled upon when it was free, and I loved it. In book 1 we meet Jake Masterson 17 year old up and coming lead singer for a rock band and Alyssa Montgomery younger girl next door. The relationship they started brought about a lot of problems, but they loved each other, fiercely. Anyway if you read it you know how it ends, and how we were left gutted. Well guess what this is the novella Fever Pitch (Heavy Influence 1.5) takes place before book 2 Broken Notes comes out and it gives us a tease as to what’s to come next for couple.
Ann Marie Frohoff did it again! She had my emotions up, down, in and out like a roller coaster…I LOVED IT. Jake and Alyssa have been communicating with one another while he is away. Alyssa and Jake still love each other with the same intense emotion as before. Alyssa is turning 18 and has made plans to spend her 18th birthday with Jake in London. This is a novella so it is a quick and short read but the intensity is still as strong.
Alyssa is in a relationship with a guy named Nathan. Ok honestly I know I love Jake but let me just say that Nathan is such a catch. Alyssa has always been honest in their relationship and before she goes to London, she comes clean and breaks it off with Nathan. This is the mature Alyssa, it hurts her to do this but she knows it is the right thing to do.
“Nathan, I’ve been talking with Jake for some time now. And I just need to stop this, you and I. You don’t deserve this.”
“So you’re getting back with him?”
“I don’t know.”
“You are like this enigma, you know, ho you juggle everything. How stoked you get about stuff and your game. You pull people in. That’s what attracted me to you, not to mention, you’re beautiful. I knew what I was getting into. I guess I was hoping that you’d moved on from him.”
Alyssa has matured a lot while they have been apart, whereas Jake I feel still has not. Jake is a in relationship with Sophia, although he says they see other people. He feels this intense feeling for Alyssa, that he has not felt since they’ve been apart but his dishonesty about his life and his relationship is frustrating and painful.
“Is she your girlfriend or not?”
“Aly, it’s not cut and dry, ok. Hypothetically, yes. I suppose she used to be my girlfriend.”
“Used to be? Does she know I am here?”
“No, but we’re not exclusive, Aly. We never were, and I’ve always told her that I couldn’t have that kind of relationship.”
Once Aly and Jake come together again in London, their love for each other only deepens. We can feel the love and emotion they have each other. Since I knew what they went through before, I expected their relationship to be even more powerful than in the past. Jake feels these intense feelings when he is around and had Aly close by. Aly, has waited so long to be with Jake, she needs him just as bad.
“I knew that if I allowed you to come here that I needed to make a decision. That’s when I realized I wanted to really spend the rest of my life with you. There was never any doubt; fear, yes, but doubt, no.”
“You sure about this?”
“I want all of you, I could cry, I want this so bad.”
“God baby you feel so good.”
I know this is a prelude to Broken Notes and I really want a HEA for the couple but as we know things for these 2 are not easy. Aly is graduating high school and on her way to college and Jake and his band are still in heavy demand. Not to mention I find Jake still to be dishonest and immature. I cannot wait to get my hands on book 2 when it comes out. FYI we also get a peek into Book 2 Broken Notes, and let me just say, HOLY SMOKES, I need book 2 now.
I received a complimentary copy from the author/publisher in exchange for an honest review.
In Fever Pitch, Aly is about to graduate from high school, and Jake is in London pursuing his music career. They've continued their relationship online, and Aly makes arrangements on her own to go visit him for her 18th birthday. She's ready to give him something, and you can probably guess just what that is.
Even though their reunion is sweet, from the start it is clear that Jake is not being completely truthful with Aly, and she knows it. But when he makes a big gesture and they take their relationship to a new level, she pushes the texts and phone calls from his "other girlfriend" to the back of her mind, at least temporarily.
When Jake's mom Kate shows up to interrupt their reunion, things take another mysterious turn as she won't divulge why she's there. I like Kate and Notting and whatever the new development is, it is not revealed in Fever Pitch. hmmm...
Kate returns back to the States, with more questions, setting things up perfectly for the next book in the series. I'm looking forward to seeing if their relationship will survive.
Fever Pitch does a good job of reacquainting the reader with these characters, and what I liked most about it was that for a good part of the book, it's just Jake and Aly so you can get an idea of whether their connection still exists. Yep, they are both still smitten with each other. The question will be whether their feelings can survive when they are together, rather than apart.
There are some nice moments here. I especially like Jake's interaction with some fans, and Aly getting a good idea of what it means to have the paparazzi after your boyfriend. Aly's parents also surprised me. I enjoyed this novella and I think it sets things up for the next book beautifully.
What SKID OUT did for FIRST KISS, FEVER PITCH will do for the next book in the series, BROKEN NOTES. It will be the perfect lead in to that book and it most definitely has me anticipating what is to come.
I didn't want to think about these two moving on, but unfortunately they did. While both maintained contact for the past 3 years, both found themselves in other relationships. I wanted to think that they were stronger than that, that they would wait for one another. But time apart opened their eyes and had them growing up a bit. As they find their way back together once again, both will see how much the other has grown. It may be that they see they no longer feel for one another anymore like they once did. Or they may see that they can't live without the other.
Frohoff has this amazing talent of evoking some powerful emotions through her words and my imagination. What starts out beautiful and forbidden, turns lustful and amazing, and then quickly to painful and hurting. So much comes out of this little book that your heart feels as if it has been sent through the wringer and left out to dry. I absolutely love that about her. I want to feel the feels. I want to experience it all. And I did with FEVER PITCH.
This is one novella you will not want to miss out on. If you loved SKID OUT and FIRST KISS as much as I did, then you will definitely want to see what this one has in store for you.
I loved First Kiss and was anxious to read more of Jake and Aly's story. In Fever Pitch three years has passed and they have maintained their relationship online. Jake has continued to pursue his dream of making music but it has taken him to London most of the time while Aly remained home to finish high school. The story gets even more interesting now that both are adults. The story is painful to me at times because both characters have moved on in relationships with other people as they continue to proclaim love and desire for one another. I kinda loved Aly's boyfriend Nathan. He seemed to be a real sweetheart. The test comes when Jake and Aly are finally together in the same place. I couldn't help but feel like Jake keeps lying to Aly about everything. I really want a happy ending for these two but nothing has ever been easy for them. This story feels so real. I need the next book now.
Another amazing novella to continue the story of Jake and Aly. OMG I just adore these characters. This time Aly is visiting Jake in London right before she is set to start college. The way these two interact and the love that they share is so beautifully mastered, I am still WANTING MORE!!! Can you tell I am a HUGE fan of this story? Well I am.
A can't be missed kind of series. You simply must experience these books for yourself.
Wow. This book is an emotional roller coaster and I can not wait for the next book!! I sure hope Jake is honest with Aly and breaks up with his girlfriend. Then I wonder why Aly and Jake are with other people...when they are supposedly so madly in love with each other. I don't think the next book can be released fast enough! This book leaves you on the edge of your seat!
Fever Pitch (Heavy Influence Book 1.5) by Ann Marie Frohoff is the second book in the Heavy Influence series. This story is about two people fighting to be together against all odds. This story is compassion and first love feeling. This story will show you that you can never tell what might happen with your first love.
Alyssa Montgomery is a high school senior about to turn eighteen. After her break up with him she was crushed. But when they started talking again, the old feelings started to come back. She decides that what she wants for her birthday is to go see him in Europe. Will she find what she wants? What she desires? Will this trip change things forever?
Jake Masters is a musician touring in Europe. After three years of being apart, will she still feel the same way? When an unexpected visit from his mother happens, he is confused on what she wants. What will happen during his mother's visit? Will he show her aside she hasn't seen before? How will stardom affect things?
Alyssa and Jake's story is one of first love. Will they be able to put their break up behind them and move forward with their relationship? Do they have a future? Once again, their story will pull you in and make you feel what they do. A new formed relationship and not knowing what the future holds for them. What will the future hold for them?
This is my second story by Ann Marie Frohoff. Ann Marie lives in the South Bay area of Los Angeles. Growing up on beaches and traveling to Hawaii then to Los Angeles where she decided to go to school for screenwriting in which she transitioned into story writing. She is always a storyteller and those who know her will agree. This is a great continuation of Alyssa and Jake's story. It is fast reading and will have you turning page after page. I highly suggest this story as I know that you will love to see what happens between these two as I have.
Fever Pitch is a novella #1.5 of the Heavy Influence Series by Ann Marie Frohoff. This is the next chapter in Alyssa and Jake’s on/off relationship. I really enjoyed this book as much if not more than First Kiss. I highly recommend that you read this series in order because all of the books are great and you will have a better back story of what is going on. I actually read Higher Octave first and I just had to start at the beginning of the series. I enjoyed the book, but it makes a lot more sense after reading the first three books.
This book start off three years after Jake left Aly behind heart broke to go tour with the band. The breakup nearly crushed her, but she has made a decision. She is turning eighteen graduating from high school and heading to London to see if she and Jake can make a go of it.
Jake and Alyssa have stayed in contact, but he never thought she would show up in London. He is still carrying around secrets and may not have settled down any in the last three years. The secrets and family drama may get in their way again. Will they be able to overcome the obstacles now that Alyssa is older? Will they be able to put the old breakup behind them? What will the future hold?
I love these books, Ms Frohoff does an excellent job of making the reader feel like they are part of the story. You just want to shake them sometimes, but then it wouldn't be young love and choices. This is a must read series!
4.25 stars Fever Pitch starts with Jake living in New York, living his dream and missing his Aly. Aly is turning eighteen and decides she wants Jake for her birthday. She plans a trip to London to surprise his on his tour. After three long years apart and their devastating breakup will their reunion be everything that Aly hoped it would be?
Ms. Frohoff is an evil genius, she has ripped my heart out and absolutely crushed it yet I come back begging for more. I simply cannot get enough of this series. I have fallen for Jake, Aly, and the possibility of their happily ever after.
Aly and Jake have been through so much and have been hurt and devastated in the process. When Aly gets to London they fall deeper in love and it seems like their HEA is in sight for them. Then more drama transpires for them after the trip and turns their world upside down once again. I cannot wait to see what happens in Broken Notes.
The storyline in this series just keeps getting better and better!
Alyssa is just about the turn 18 years old and has decided that she's going to visit Jake for the first time in three years in London. She's been in touch with him via Skype and email without any of her friends or parents knowing.
Jake was her first love and she needs to know if this relationship is going to work. This novella was the perfect stepping stone in the series to keep you hooked. I loved the surprises that came up and it will definitely keep me reading further into the series. I need to know what's going to happen next with these two!
Aly is thrown into a life she doesn't know how to navigate. Jake's life isn't for the soft hearted and Aly doesn't know how to work it. I felt bad for her. She wasn't taken care of at all. Jake was horrible in this one. I was hoping he would improve.
I forgot how much I've missed Aly and Jake since I first met them this past summer.
This novella skips ahead to Aly's senior year in school. Which is 3 years after book 1 takes place. Because let's face it, nothing would really happen between the two of them until Aly is an adult.
If you're looking for more character growth, don't get your hopes up. Don't get me wrong, there is some compared to book 1. It's just more on Aly than Jake though, and because of that, we almost see glimpses of 14 year old Aly when she's with him. But at the same time, because she has grown up a fair amount, she deals with situations on a more grown up level.
There is a fair amount that happens in this short story and I'm very happy to see that. There are a few secrets that come out, but I'll leave you to read the story to discover those. So let's start out with Aly getting the guts to go to see Jake in the UK. It reminds me of when I took a trip to Saskatoon last year for a concert. Had everything planned, down to the flight before I told my parents. Oops. Needless to say, that it worked out for both Aly and I.
I was super nervous for how the trip would go. Just knowing how Jake is and stuff. I mean it had only been 3 years since they last saw each other. But I knew that with grown up Aly, all would be dealt with properly and maturely.
I think there is something to be said for having sex for the first time with a loved one while being away on a trip. It makes it seem more magical, but Ann didn't stray from the reality of how painful it is for a girl during her first time and I want to thank Ann for this.
Aly is thrown some curveballs while she's in London, some good, some bad. But it's all in how she deals with these curveballs, makes you realize that she is no longer that little girl we met. I kind of felt like a proud mum.
Jake, where do I begin with you. I still love/hate you in this one. I mean, you really haven't changed. But at the same time, you have. UGH! Why do you have to be such a guy. Okay, I'm just going to shut up now.
I'm super happy to have read this! I think if I skipped this, I would have felt a bit confused when starting the second one. So if you're pondering on whether or not to read this, DO IT! You won't regret it and it fulls the time until we see them again in Broken Notes.
This book picks up 3 years after everything that happened between Jake and Aly. So if you haven't read the other please stop and do so now. It won't make sense otherwise. Just another warning Ann Marie Frohoff leaves you at such emotional cliffhangers. I just want to throw my kindle.
Jake and Aly never really stopped talking. Just to everyone else they did. But after 3 years of virtual communication Aly decides she wants Jake for her birthday. With her surprise to everyone including Jake a success off to Europe she goes. While there Jake and Aly’s love only grows stronger, but Aly knows he is keeping secrets from her. They have grown so much right?
I love this series it brings a whole new meaning to teenage angst. The love story between Jake and Aly is so emotional and real. I think it's believable because it feels like something that could happen to high school kids. It's so emotional because you can feel like your heart is breaking for them. I understand they are so young but that's why people marry their high school sweethearts. My cousin married his junior high school sweetheart. Aly is a very strong woman and i feel like if her parents just let up a little she could be able to make her own mistakes and come out stronger on the other side. Jake i don't know about him yet. My opinion is still up in the air about him. Don't get me wrong i do like him but also think the situation that happened with them when Aly was 15, he took the coward's way out. I wish he wouldn't keep running. It makes me want to hurt him. I know he gets it from his mom, Kate, she is a different character altogether. And Aly’s parents, i understand wanting to protect your daughter especially from repeats of the past but Jake and her are soulmates. I do believe that and i hope Ann Marie Frohoff agrees. Just saying if after everything they went through and everything we went through as the reader and they end up not having a HEA, i just might ugly cry.
It's been three years since Aly has seen Jake which has been torture but with her eighteenth birthday coming she finally can fly to London where he currently is to see him. Aly and Jake have kept in contact while hes been living it up on tour being a rock star and shes been at home studying in high school but she finally graduating so she can go to college in new York so she and Jake can start there life’s together but it's not that simple Jake has been seeing this girl called Sophia and yes she knows about Aly being the love of his life but she don't know they are together and plan on living together, he don't want to hurt her so he keep putting it off but the thing is its getting to Aly a lot she know she was seeing someone but she broke it off once she knew she was going to London so she wondering why he won't end it with Sophia and if there’s more feelings involved with them then he's letting on and the one thing she wants to know but scared to ask is if he's still sleeping with her it will gut her so the doubt starts to creep it's way in. Jake can see he has to do something but will it be to late will Aly give up on them or will they pull through and have the happy ever after they both deserve together after everything they have been through so far….. I do love Jake and Aly they are sweet together you can feel the love they have for each other I just wish I could shake Jake and tell him to sort himself out before he loses her. I am enjoying this series so far I haven’t been disappointed one bit the story has kept me hooked from book one and im sure Il carry on being hooked, you fall in love with Jake and Aly hard not to they have been through a lot together and still are fighting now which is truly beautiful to see the love they have is strong enough to keep them above water. This book is filled will love laughs and sadness but you will not regret reading it wonderful…
4 Star Review The story of Alycat and Jake continues in Fever Pitch, a novella in the Heavy Influence series by Ann Marie Frohoff. This is number 1.5 in the series, so I do encourage reading Skid Out and First Kiss beforehand. Fever Pitch is told from Allyssa’s point of view and just like always, Frohoff has a way of taking you back to your first love and the distance you’ll go for them.
Three years have passed and Allyssa is no longer the little girl next door. She’s on the verge of turning 18 and has a doting boyfriend, Nathan, who thinks she hung the moon. The only catch-he’s not Jake. And, all she wants for her 18 birthday is to see her blue eyed boy in Europe.
“This trip is just to see what the possibilities are. We love each other. That doesn’t mean things are gonna work out. Love has never been our problem.”
Jake is now a rockstar with groupies and paparazzi around every corner. He also has a serious girl in his life, and her name isn’t Allyssa. Three years may have passed, but he’s never forgotten the girl next door and the love that he has for her. But, is he grown up enough to have someone permanent in his life?
“I want nothing more than to be with you. I want this to last forever.”
Nonetheless, time can change people, especially when you fall in love at such a young age. Can Allyssa move forward past the lifestyle that Jake lives? And, is he willing to give up the other woman in his life to be exclusive with Allyssa?
“I want the world to know you’re my life.”
Fever Pitch does end on a major cliffhanger. However, if you’re looking for a young adult suspenseful romance, then I highly recommend Ann Marie Frohoff’s Heavy Influence series. It will definitely remind you of your first love and all the butterfly feelings that person gave you.
Ann Marie Frohoff has written a relationship, no, a whole series so far, with astronomical turmoil! The Heavy Influence series starts with Skid Out, a novella, and First Kiss. Both stories are a must read to truly understand the heartache and turmoil these two go through. Well at least Alyssa does. I’m still not sure about Jake.
Jake comes across as a cad, jerk, player, during this story. He doesn’t want to deal with any situation that is unpleasant to him. I get that, but when it is affecting the “love of your life”! Suck it up buttercup! I really want to love him like Alyssa does.
"I'm sorry, Alycat." His voice was a whisper. "I just don't feel like dealing with any of this. It's all a hassle. I don't do well with hassles, you know that."
These two started out as next door neighbors and friends. They have known each other their whole lives and their love goes deep.
“There's something to say about the ability to just be with someone in silence.”
Alyssa or Aly, is finally 18 years old. While she is still naïve, she has a plan and a goal. I love these things about her. She also seems ok if her plans don’t include Jake. She knows she loves him and always has but she is smart enough at 18 to know that love really isn’t everything. Jake is a successful rock-star, on tour in London. He seems to love Aly, but who is Sophia? Emily? Is every girl he mentions one of his notches? Is Aly a little too jealous? This story continues the saga of Jake and Alyssa 3 years after they broke up. They stayed in touch, however, not telling anyone. This has always concerned me throughout the series, the secrecy of their love. I really look forward to reading more from Ann Marie Frohoff, I really want these two to make it work!!
This book bridges the gap from the last in the series and hopefully it is setting us up for the conclusion of Aly and Jake’s story. As I loved seeing each of their insights about the past I was hoping to get more of what the future may hold….we are still left in limbo...I'm just greedy and want more of their story.
Aly has had eyes for Jake all her life. She knew when she turned eighteen she could be with Jake without her parents standing in the way. They had a huge falling out when he left for Europe with his band and she had only been Skyping and texting him. She couldn't wait to finally see him in person after years.
Jake was living his dream and missing Aly. She had always been the one he knew would be his future. Yet, he still had hookups with others until he could be with Aly. He didn't think that day would ever happen...it was always a dream that was far away.
Aly and Jake talked about what their future would be like once she finally turned eighteen and she graduated high school. They both were anticipating that day, but things don't always go as planned. They were in their own secret bubble with their plans and needed to see how it would actually be once others found out about their plans. They both had been seeing others and needed to end things to test out their possible future.
Will everyone be supportive of their relationship? Will they be able to let go of past insecurities? Will they be able to keep each other's past in the past or will it continue to wedge itself back into the present? Will past habits repeat themselves and ruin their chance at happiness? Will promises the made for the future finally happen or will they be shattered?
Fever Pitch (#1.5 A Novella) (Heavy Influence) By: Ann Marie Frohoff 5 out of 5 stars
The story Fever Pitch (#1.5 A Novella) (Heavy Influence) by Ann Marie Frohoff is a rock star romance novella. Jake and Alyssa have been keeping in touch through the internet while he is on tour of Europe and their love has not waned or faded. Alyssa has decided all she wants for her 18th birthday is Jake. So she surprises everyone, including Jake, and plans a trip to London. It has been three years apart after their devastating breakup, will this reunion be all that they dreamed of? Once there, Alyssa is thrown into Jake’s stardom, family matters and a side of Jake that she has never seen before.
I love this little slice of the Heavy Influence series. It starts up with Alyssa’s 18th birthday looming and the love between her and Jake not fading in the least. Not that this is an easy path that they take. They have lost friends and their parents seem to be dead set against their actions. It is such an amazing story of trying to start again, some insecurities and dealing with life getting in the way. Alyssa is sure that their relationship will advance even further and Jake wants the same, although she does feel that there has been some sort of change with Jake. The same intense feelings and story bleed over from First Kiss, the first novel.
If you loved the first novella and the first book, you will love this novella as well. This is a series that it well worth the time in reading as you will fall in love with the characters and need to know what happens next. I can’t wait to read the next book. There are adult situations so it would be recommended for mature YA readers.
broken notes. by Ann Marie frohoff. *****5***** life just kept throwing tomatoes at us. "for the first time since laying eyes on her as a high school freshman, I felt as if I did not want to fight for our love anymore. that thought made me sink deeper into despair, because I loved her so much." ann marie is literally trying to kill me with these books! they have made my heart pound, bite my nails, and cry big fat ugly tears. aly finally gets to spend the week in London with Jake and she can tell he has changed. now she is back home finally getting ready to graduate and she will officially begin her life with Jake in New York. but aly has reservations about Jake and school. Jake wants her to live with him and go to nyu, but she has schools at home in California that offer her a free ride for four years. aly decides to take the plunge and move to new york with Jake. all is well for a couple of months until tragedy strikes and sends Jake spiralling down. his best friend and band mate dump has fallen ill and ends up dying after getting pneumonia. aly decides to go back home and go to school while she trys to put her life back together. this makes Jake more depressed and starts taking pills and drinking again. during his grief he also makes some life altering mistakes he can never take back which results in aly finally giving up on them. real life is not beautiful all the time, aly and Jake used to believe love was all they needed, until they stopped believing. life is unfair and for this couple l ok 've will throw more at them. sometimes life gets in the way of a happily ever after.
“Fever Pitch” is the next novella in the Heavy Influence series by Ann Marie Frohoff. This book is not a standalone and you really need to read the first book and novellas to know what has been leading up to this moment. Alyssa has been waiting years to finally be old enough to see Jake again. Jake has been touring in Europe with his band that is now very popular and Jake is actually a rock star. Since Alyssa’s parents didn’t want her seeing Jake again, she has had to wait until she is eighteen to finally go see him in London where is has been staying. Since this is a short novella, I don’t want to give away many details. This quick read is about Alyssa’s trip to see Jake and what happens while she is there. Since Alyssa and Jake had so many issues being together when they were young, it was nice to see what they were really like together. They never really had the chance to see what if felt like to be with the one you love without having to hide. I liked that Ann Marie Frohoff skipped ahead a bit to Alyssa being old enough to really tell her parents that her and Jake were talking again. Having to hide how you feel about someone is so hard and I’m glad Alyssa doesn’t have to deal with that anymore. She’s still young and doesn’t always know what she wants, but who does?! She’s a smart girl and I’m eager to read the next novel “Broken Notes” so I can see what happens next for this troubled couple. I’m still rooting for them even with all the hoops they have had to jump through. Some books I’ve read had similar situations and I found myself almost wanting them to just break up and end it, but I’m still on team Jake and Alyssa! I give “Fever Pitch” four stars!
“Fever Pitch” written by Ann Marie Frohoff is a novella with an interesting title! I also thought the cover was different than most romance books. It is a story that takes place several years after the first novella with the same characters. The main characters of this crazy love story are Alyssa and Jake! Jake is a sexy rock star that has history with Alyssa who is goal orientated and beautiful!
I think the story is intense! The emotions flying through this book are like being on a crazy rollercoaster with no end in sight! Which again, continues into another book. Hopefully, Jake and Alyssa can get their act together or just go their separate ways. I liked that the point of view was clear which made for easier reading.
I had mixed feelings about the relationship between Jake and Alyssa! I wish Alyssa had a stronger character and Jake was less manipulative but than it would be a different story! I think Alyssa is wearing her heart on her sleeve! I found myself angry with Jake! Crazy right! It’s only a book!
I’m not quite sure I understood what was happening with Jake’s mother other than her relationship with Notting. I think time will tell with that one!
I am giving this story 4 stars. I was confused where Jake was London or NY? Nobody seemed to know what was going on with these two people in the story! Friends and Family were mostly in the dark at some point in the story! I think the conflict and the anticipation for what was going to happen could have been developed more! I guess more details will be revealed in the next book.
