SPOILERS

This was the best Marina Cove book yet!

The beginning definitely dragged a lot with lots of exposition/description and A LOT of recap. Like if you didn't read the previous books, then don't read this one yet. If you read the others, the beginning was a recap for a while.

The middle to end was a lot better and had a lot more dialogue, action, and moved at a quicker pace.

I really enjoyed Ella and Leo's romance and I knew he had dementia as soon as he forgot about their date. I'm surprised she didn't see it sooner.

Ella is definitely my favorite character, followed by Charlotte. Diane has her moments, and I dislike Ramona 90% of the time.

Ramona's storyline with Lily and Danny was definitely drawn out, but what bothered me the most and really took me out of the story was that they were treating Lily like she was 5 by saying "she doesn't understand" a 9 or 10 year old definitely understands when someone isn't treating them fairly. I'm a teacher and none of my 3rd graders would be falling for this. It seemed Lily gained all her wisdom and intelligence at her 10th birthday party tbh. Before that, they kept saying she was smart but portrayed her as stupid.

Another thing that bothered me is that Diane is all of a sudden this wonderful singer? That was a poor plot device. And why is she hanging out with Austin like nothing is wrong? I'd be trying to get to the bottom of that note.

Nick is back! I REALLY hope that something bad happened to him against his will because we need one normal man in this series besides Christian, who honestly is complicated, too.

Sebastian getting arrested was amazing!! I hope Tex gives Charlotte some money for emotional distress since he liked her so much.

Side note: Poor Madison :(

I also really hope that Ramona and Lily publish their children's books and that they do well. They could help all of them financially, emotionally, and mentally! And Ramona can even run the bookstore once Leo is unable to for some stability and finances.

I liked that Ramona went to the lawyers and told her the truth. As soon as she mentioned her alcoholism, I knew Abby was going to say she was in recovery, too. Despite that convenient connection, it was the right thing to do. Lawyers, doctors, and all of those people aren't always right. She listened to her gut and that's what you should always do.

I can't wait to hear what Samuel has to say because I KNOW he is on their side. Natalie being a fugitive is interesting, and her being in Ireland where Jack's sister is is also interesting. I'm hoping there's a connection there.

I think my biggest problem with this book is the writing. The author reuses A LOT of words, phrases, and plot lines. Sebastian's letter was so similar to Jack's; the characters don't have their own voice. Also, I am SO SO SO over "she felt it in her bones" and Charlotte and others yelping and jumping a foot in the air every time their freaking phone rings. Like get used to it fr. And the CONSTANT "she suppressed/ held in a giggle" or one of them laughed at an inappropriate or bizarre time. It's so weird and so annoying.

Also why do they all sleep in the same room? Isn't this an inn with like 20 guest rooms? And can we buy a bed please? At first I didn't think Danny's store sold furniture because it's odd for one store to sell furniture, paint, and other supplies; even Home Depot doesn't sell couches, beds ,chairs and stuff, so why would a small business? But I guess they do since Ella was able to re-do the entire bookstore in one night with Danny's help while she's in debt.

On a similar note, how are they always eating out and buying bulk hot dogs and bbq food and making extravagant sweets? Where is this money coming from? They complain about being in debt 24/7, but they're better fed than some of the middle class.

I really did enjoy reading this sequel to the Marina Cove series. The Keller family is developing and each.of them is going thru a lot of personal growth. The problems that were forcing all of them to pull away from each other and from life are starting to become
manageable. Each member of the family is working to fix their own problem and also helping each other.

spoiler

SPOILER

The visual of Marina Cove sounds lovely; however, all the equally dispensed despair, from each female character, got old, quickly. This guy embezzles, that guy disappears , the next guy is a liar, the next, holds secrets….too many bad similarities would make me run screaming from this idyllic fictional coast

Wow can't wait for next one

I loved this whole series but mind you not all the characters, some of the worst men you could imagine but not all of them some are good guys.

Repetitive

I had to stop reading at page 138. Very aggrevating to try and stay interested in a story when you keep reading the same paragraph over and over again.
