Zona #3

ZONA III: Foundation

Rate this book
Dr. Grant Taylor leads a small contingent of Zona expedition survivors out of the forbidden land to St. Petersburg, Russia, where they undertake a new endeavor. They work with Boris Ustinov to create a protocol that will protect Zona from discovery by the outside Zona Foundation.

They learn of a competing expedition that is determined to find Zona and exploit it for commercial purposes. Grant and Tamara Kostova, a soldier and friend, undertake the mission to infiltrate the opposing team and ensure that they do not find the secret land, by any means necessary. The mission is so dangerous that they may never return to their friends or to Zona alive.

This is a story about humans protecting a unique ecosystem, Zona—a lost world—from discovery and exploitation by greedy adventurers and businessmen. It is about family values, rare animals, dire wolf civilization, and unspoken courage to do the right thing under difficult and life-threatening conditions.

I honestly didn't know what I was getting into when I chose to read this book. The third in the series, I was able to read the first two shortly before I began this one. They are well worth the read and I felt as if I did need the knowledge and back story from the first two to get somewhere in this one. Let me tell you a little more about this one.

There is a lot of sci-fi and post-apocalyptic undertones in these books. When I read the second book, I just knew that there was a lot more to this story and I was thrilled when Fred Baker released the third installment! Baker has made a land that is not only magical, but the character development is key as well. The plot keeps you on the edge of your seat and I have never read books quite like these.

Zona is at the point where people want to destroy the land and everyone who lives there. The humans that inhabit Zona are doing their best to keep the land and the people safe. It is a very special place and scientists want to learn more about it, but that would mean it would be ruined for those who live there. There are plenty of dedicated inhabitants of Zona whose life purpose is to keep this beautiful land safe.

There are many survivors in Zona who have worked diligently with the doctor there to help keep everyone safe. These survivors fight for what they believe in and it has been hard for them to do so. They work tirelessly in order to save their land from those who are trying to ruin it. Their ultimate goal is to keep everyone safe from outsiders, but this isn’t easy at all. The characters do end up coming together and building a bond like no other to keep Zona safe.

As I read this book, I couldn't stop! I did feel as if I was transported to Zona and I was part of the team of protectors. The characters really pop off the pages and I never wanted to put this book down. I would highly recommend this book to those who like young adult fiction and science fiction. The author has done an excellent job with the plot and character development and I cannot wait to read more of his writing. I hope it’s sooner than later!

Super Fun

This is the third book in Fred Baker’s Zona series. If you are unfamiliar with the first two books in the series: Zona: The Forbidden Land, and Zona: Sabertooth Uprising, then it could be a good idea to go back and give those a read first. However, after reading this book I can say that it is possible to read, and enjoy it as a standalone novel. You would probably be a little lost though.

As far as how this novel was written I can say that it is done extremely well. The author clearly has a lot of experience and is very good at telling stories. He has the ability to take the reader on a journey, which I think is the point of a good fiction book. I found myself imagining myself exploring a new land, and even being inspired for adventure and traveling. The characters are well developed and believable. The dialogue felt real and not forced. I was able to read this book very quickly, not necessarily because the writing style was easy, but because I found myself captivated by the story and before I knew it, I had read multiple chapters.

This could be a good one to read together with a friend and discuss later, or for your own entertainment. iIf you like adventure and just plain good books, then I’m sure you will enjoy this one.

Zona 3

Loved this book as much as the previous two. This all sounds like a wonderful way to live, alongside dire wolves.
