Rebel Heart is my first read from L.K Farlow and one I was really excited for. I loved the idea of the rebel girl with the nice guy and that's what drew me to the book. Abby Jane and Brock gave me exactly what I was looking for and I really enjoyed seeing their differences come together. I found their story intriguing and couldn't wait to see how it was going to turn out.
As much as I found it to be interesting, there were still times I was looking for more and that's where my 3 Star rating comes from. Their actual relationship moved kind of fast, which was fine, but that coupled with the fact that there was so much going on in Brock's life that he wasn't dealing with made it a little meh for me. I guess I just wish that he had dealt with his problems a little earlier in the book that way he and Abby Jane could have been focused on more. Especially since the ending seemed a little rushed for me.
But those problems aside I enjoyed the writing and these characters. I liked Abby Jane's sassiness and how she just really didn't care about the pointless stuff in life. Sure there were moments of insecurity, but for me that just made her character more realistic. She was my favorite part of this book and I will be re-reading it many times just to get more of her.
Overall, I did have some issues with the story but in the end it was a book that I really enjoyed. And it's definitely one I would recommend. I just hope this isn't the last we've seen of these characters because there are definitely some secondary ones that I would love to get a story.
ARC kindly provided in exchange for an honest review.
They were best friends. He found out his dick existed and just let loose. They kinda separated because she was her own person/emoish and started to hate that he didn’t stick up for her etc. Then some tutoring business caused them to reacquaint and they end up liking each other. He has an abusive dad who has the whole “you’re going to do this son or else” Some dumb drama to reach us to the climax. Me: I was bored. Fell asleep. Got up. Read a little on the train. Repeated the cycle for like a week and I finished it.
4.5 *Wild* Stars This is a book for everyone.... well, everyone of appropriate age. It's got hate. It's got love. It's got laughter. It's got a spunky, pink-haired vixen and a straight-laced stud with a killer swing. AJ and Brock are fun, flirty, and they make this just an all around fantastic read!
I have to be honest and say that I was a little hesitant coming into this one for two reasons... one, rom-coms aren't always a homerun for me. I want to LOVE every rom-com I read because what more can you want than romance with a side of humor, am I right? Unfortunately most romantic comedies (or at least the ones I've read) seem to rely more on the jokes and the funny stories and less on the actual storyline and budding relationship. Not with Rebel Heart... You get the funny AND you get the story. And two, because Kate kind of had her niche with Southern Roots. She found a flow and a writing style and it was awesome! I thought she had kind of found her comfort zone. BUT she brought it all with her. The quality of writing, the style... nothing was lost.
In all honesty, I loved it. It's cute. It's funny. It's a great book! This is a high quality rom-com that I will be recommending to everyone!
Rebel Heart has spunk unlike anything we have seen from LK Farlow yet! A.J. and Brock burn so hot for each other and I couldn't get enough of them!
What I love about Rebel Heart is that, as it's tag line states, is not your typical jock / tutor romance! Abby Jane and Brock have this past together and it's obvious that AJ isn't fully over it and that's where the real fun begins. I love when a characters mind tells them one thing but, their body.. their body! is telling yes! The push and pull between these two is perfect, it hurt so good! They were fire and ice..
Rebel Heart is a fun light read, but it also has a deeper message, you can't judge a book by it's cover and you can't just assume you know what someone is going through based on how they appear to the rest of the world.
Grab this amusing, sexy read today and meet your new favorite pink haired heroine and golfing hero!
I really liked AJ. She's brave and goes after what she wants and doesn't dwell on the negative stuff that comes her way. But she's the only thing I liked about this story. I kind of hated the premise of the professor holding a letter of recommendation over her head to force her to tutor the dillhole ex-friend who dropped her like a hot-potato when they hit adolescence and he became popular. And that was bad enough.
But then we meet Brock. And I kept waiting for something we should like about him. He's rich and drives a nice truck? He's apparently hot? I don't know about you, but I need more. At just over halfway, we've seen him bend to his father's abuse time and again and it grates on me every single time. His father is an abusive jerk who dictates literally every aspect of Brock's life, from his classes to his training to the girl he "should be" dating. When his father slapped him for hesitating to bend to his will, I was all, "well okay, then. Now we see what Brock is made of." And we did. He's made of jello pudding mix.
And I get that his father holds the purse strings, but at this point, Brock appears to be attached to AJ and she to him and they're running around all blissed out and crap and there is zero hint at all about what he's going to do when his father finds out. No plan. No intention. No resolve at all. His father's reaction isn't a mystery. His disapproval is guaranteed. I sense a dark moment coming and it makes me want to scream. I'm happy to read a story about someone finding their strength. But Brock doesn't seem to mind that he doesn't have any in the first place...
No rating on this one for . . . reasons. It's complicated. Which is why there's a link...
I loathe double standards and hate slut-shaming, and when it comes form the so called 'hero' (and she forgives him too *ugh*), I'm out as fast as I can.

This was a beautifully written story of two college kids who reunite. AJ (Abby Jane) & Brock grew up together & were best friends. At 5 yrs old, Brock said he would marry AJ when they grew up, however, around preteen years (I think 14-15), hormones stepped in for Brock & he found "girls" which caused him to drift apart from AJ. They meet up again in college when he needs a tutor and she steps in to fill that role reluctantly.
At first, these two are enemies (well... mostly AJ 'cause she was hurt @ Brock for breaking their friendship in the past) and I loved their nick names ("Jocktrop"/Brock & "Firecracker"/AJ). As they start to spend time, they slowly start to rebuild their friendship and become lovers.
I loved this short story. This couple is so cute together. This a totally safe read (no cheating or OW/OM drama -
There is also a very sweet Epilogue which is very important to me.💙👍
This was such a fun read! I could not get enough of AJ and Brock! Seriously! I felt like I was there with them! I had so emotions going on while reading this story, I just couldn’t put it down!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own
AJ and Brock get along like a house on fire. Seriously those two are combustible in all the good ways. She doesn’t budge, and she knows what she wants and goes for it with gusto while Brock is very straight and narrow and acquiesces to the path his father sets him on. What could go wrong?
Abby Jane has ditched high society for the life of a college student. Her mother wants her to be a society wife and have luncheons but with a trust set up by her grandfather she dyes her hair pink and gets tattoos and sets off for a college degree. AJ is very bold and at times combative and a lot of it stems from being ditched by her childhood best friend. He was someone who she thought she’d always have in her life. One day with a “blackmail” from her professor she agrees to tutor a jock to keep him on his team. She doesn’t expect her past to become her present. She enters into this agreement against her better judgement, but she really needs that letter.
Brock is a people pleaser. His path is paved by his father and he doesn’t want to upset the flow. He starts to feel a little restless when his father piles more practices on him and forces a future society wife on him as well. While Brock likes the sport of golf he would love to make it big in the PGA. When he must take a tutoring class, he walks into the library expecting a nerdy guy he doesn’t realize he would be staring at the beautiful Abby Jane. She has always been in the back of his mind and it’s this wild woman who sets him on a path that will truly make him happy.
Sweet puppies in heaven I hated Brocks dad. That man is a sociopath among a million other things. I know jack all about golf. Seriously my only knowledge is Happy Gilmore, Tiger Woods and Arnold Palmer who came up with that tasty half lemonade and half tea drink. Brock made golf sexy and that’s words I never thought I’d utter. I love the chemistry between these two. It was explosive in all the right sexy ways.
Stacia as a best friend is one every girl needs. I liked that AJ didn’t take crap. She was true to herself and that’s so important to me. Future society wife Amanda annoyed me to no end. I’m surprised AJ didn’t drown her in a pond on the back green somewhere. I would have. I devoured this book in a day and a half and didn’t want it to end. I am truly a fan of L.K. Farlow
L.K. Farlow is starting to become a staple in my reading life. When I first read the blurb for Rebel Heart, I knew I needed Abby Jane and Brock's story and I needed it now!
This book...GAH! I cannot put into words how I felt about this story and these characters. Brock is a cocky egotistical jock who is in dire need of tutoring. With his life decisions set in stone, he can't afford to screw up. Enter Abby Jane, a sweet innocent girl from Brock's past...only now Miss. Abby Jane isn't so sweet and innocent. With her hair dyed pink and tattoos gracing her skin, Abby Jane is the epitome of every single fantasy Brock never even knew he had. He'll do anything to keep her this time... even if that anything requires going against his pretentious silver spoon type parents.
Rebel Heart has the three S's...Swoony, Sweet, and all kinds of SEXY! The chemistry between Brock and AJ is irresistible and hot as hell! I couldn't stop reading, I literally almost burned dinner because I was so consumed by this book! I want and need more!
The one thing I admired most about Rebel Heart was AJ's firecracker attitude and her independence. She's a little punk princess with an attitude a mile wide. Brock's cockiness towards AJ meshed perfectly with this storyline. The romance was great given the fact that these two characters couldn't be more different. I love watching a second chance romance slowly burn its way across the pages. Brock and AJ burned bright as hell.
Overall, I couldn't get enough of this novel and these characters. I loved the essence of true love and the opposites attract vibe. I also loved the Romeo and Juliet type forbidden romance style. I can see myself definitely rereading Rebel Heart in the future!
I highly recommend this novel to those looking for a hilariously sexy rom-com with just a little bit of angst.
This was a good read. I was looking for steamy, new adult, with college sports. This was more... best friends to enemies to lovers new adult. Still an enjoyable read. Liked the characters and their story. It was quick and enjoyable.
Once I picked this one up, I read it almost straight through in a 24-hour period, interruptions of course by work, driving to and from work, etc. I stayed up late to read it and could barely put it down when I was on break at work. It was a fun, sexy read. I love that Schmidt was a favorite character on the show New Girl, since he is my favorite as well.
Abby Jane, or AJ as she prefers to go by, had one of the most hilarious best friends possible, Stacia, which you can get a glimpse of in the excerpt below. And then there's Brock. Yeah, he's an athlete, but he's a golfer, so it's funny all the ways that AJ tries to insult him as a jock, that just don't fit a golfer.
But it wasn't just a fun, fluffy, light romance. There were some family moments that were very emotional. There was the bit at the end that drove them apart, even if it was just one of the usual misunderstandings that are in romance stories. It worked well, and I LOVED the way that Brock went about getting AJ back. Again, Stacia is totally the best friend a girl could have or want to have.
A fun, page-turner, barely put the book down read. Steamy, sexy, and funny, another favorite read of mine this year! Yet another new-to-me author I'll be keeping on my radar from now on.
Rebel Heart is unlike anything you've read from Mrs. Farlow thus far and it too is incredible. This chick really can do it all. The banter and chemistry between Abby Jane and Brock Larson are everything I love in a novel. I didn't think it was possible to love Kate's writing more, but Rebel Heart is my new LK favorite! Trust me when I say this romantic comedy has it all and it's one you definitely do not want to miss.
This is another one of those books that's sat on my TBR for years. So, in my current I don't know what to read funk I decided it had to be on my TBR to try clean that up a little. And honestly looking at the 2k books that have been added over the last 10 years I realised how vast my tastes are but also how much they have changed.
But today this book was the one that spoke to me, and it was in KU (bonus) so I jumped in and didn't put it down. Luckily, it's a reasonably quick read. However, it sure did pack a lot of interesting story into the pages. I feel like I got a great feel for the characters and who they were. I loved the history between Brock and AJ.
I also got enough twists and turns to keep the story interesting and make me need to see how things were going to unfold. It was hot as hell and equally as sweet with plenty of emotions packed in. It was the perfect lazy Sunday afternoon read. And I am off to KU to grab the next book. Toodles.
This was such a cute fun book! It was a breath of fresh air and beautifully written. It's a quick read but man it was great! Most books you read are about the bad boy/good girl but the roles were reversed in this book. Also I think this is the first book I've read that the sport of choice is golf. Who would of ever thought golf could be so HOT? Definitely not me but this was great! I loved it And the chemistry between Abby and Brock was off the charts!
I really love second chance romances. Especially ones where the main characters were best friends growing up. Then if you really want to reel me in you have them not like each other and add some tension along the way. So with that being said this is what I got when I read “Rebel Heart” by LK Farlow and I enjoyed the ride.
Aj and Brock used to be best friends growing up but things changed and several years later they are forced to reunite and neither one of them are happy. I loved the underlying tension between Brock and Aj. I have to say Aj, was my kind of girl because she didn’t take any mess and didn’t conform to what other people wanted her to be. You only have one life and if you aren’t hurting anyone you need to live it for you. I liked Brock and he had a lot on his shoulders. To be honest I’m surprised he didn’t have a breakdown with all the nonsense he had to deal with in his personal life.
This was a quick and fast paced read but nonetheless it was enjoyable. I loved the secondary characters, Stacia and West. I’m hoping we get a book featuring them in the future. LK Farlow has quickly become one of my go to authors and I absolutely love her stories!
I definitely recommend this amazing 4 star read to all romance lovers! Farlow is a favorite author of mine and I sat down to read this and literally finished it in just a matter of a few hours. AJ and Brock’s characters are absolutely addictive and I couldn’t get enough of them! What are you waiting on? Grab this one now!
*This book was purchased by me for my personal collection. All opinions, negative or positive, are my own.*
"Because at age five, over mud pies, I decided Abby Jane would be my wife."
LK has done it again! I was so happy to see that she coming out with a standalone. Her Southern Roots series was awesome and I'm glad to see she brought her humor out here. I was laughing so much while reading this. These two had chemistry and I couldn't get enough of reading about them. These two were friends when they were younger but ended up going different ways once high school because of an issue. Abby Jane always held a grudge against Brock because of it. When she's set up to be his tutor, all the shit hits the fan!
I adored Abby Jane and Brock! Abby Jane (AJ) was amazing! I loved her attitude and her ability to always be herself. She's is the type of character that I will always love. I never knew what was going to come out of her mouth! Brock was sweet and my heart went out to him. The chemistry between these two was straight fire, you guys. I was living for this couple!
Now there are two reasons that I couldn't give it five stars. One is that it was a bit predictable. I could tell the plot twist of the book before it happened. Second, it was a bit over descriptive for me. Like are we going to believe that Brock knows what a Burgundy smokey eye and a cold shoulder top are?
All in all, this is a very good story. Even with the two issues I had, it was still enjoyable and I would recommend it if you love sassy women and swoon worthy romance!
I received an ARC via author for an honest review.
Gosh....This book y’all!!! I have completely fallen in love with it and at this point I really just wish it could go on FOREVER!! When I tell you LK Farlow’s writing always, and I mean Always pulls me in and captivates my heart. Every. Single. Time.
Rebel Heart is extremely unique, hilarious and fun as hell! I devoured every word and laughed until my stomach was in knots. It’s packed to the brim with great scenes that will keep you completely consumed. It’s light hearted, it’s swoony and has a very healthy dose of SEXY!
I’ve got the biggest #girlcrush on Abby Jane....Gosh! I fell in love with “firecracker” from the start. Her Sass and personality alone is amazing! Add in her smarts and strong will to be herself and not what society and her family expect from her, that just sealed the deal for me!
Brock Larson, The Hot Jock!! Yeah, I couldn’t get enough of him either. He’s got a full plate from golfing, classes, tutoring and pleasing his arrogant father. But with all that going on he still finds the time to be completely down to earth, sexy, funny and let’s not forget all the things this guy says that will have you melting!
These two together? Yeah...Dynamite!! From their banter to their chemistry you will no doubt fall in love too! I can’t say it enough that this story is one that will pull you into their lives and have you living in a world that you wish you could be a part of!
Congratulations LK Farlow on another amazing read! You nailed it beyond belief!
Rebel Heart by L.K. Farlow is a story of second chances with a whole lot of hate/love and lots of laughs! And we all now the thin line between love and hate! The good guy and the rebel girl, what could go wrong, right?
Brock is the guy that does what is right and follows all the rules. His future is set for him. AJ pushes all the boundaries and takes no prisoners. She is living her life her way. While they were once friends that was a long time ago. But now Brock needs a tutor and somehow AJ finds herself being picked for the job.
Now Brock and AJ are spending time together, which most of the times consists of them going back and forth with each other. But underneath all that there is strong chemistry and connection. But Brock hurt AJ and she is not ready to forgive and forget!
Rebel Heart by L.K. Farlow was a nice surprise! It was such a sweet and funny read! A second chance romance that will have you laughing at their banter and swooning when they come to their senses!
Five heartwarming, couldn't get enough of stars. This read was just what I needed, the characters are Amazeballs, I am head over heels crushing on AJ, She totally gave me a lady boner. I aspire to be her , her style and rough exterior is so BadAss. On the inside she still just a girl crushing on a guy who previously hurt her. Seriously loving her no filter, and take no Shit attitude. This is a almost second chance at love story that is sucked me in. AJ and Brock grew up together and thought they would end up married, but all that came tumbling down when Brock hit puberty and completely ignored AJ. Now their in college and AJ has been assigned to be Brocks tutor. Their is so much Sassy-ness in this read , and I flew through the pages , and when these two are together its either Hate or Love. One of my top reads this year, so ready for more.
I fell in love with LK Farlow's Southern Roots series and couldn't wait to see what else she had in store for us. And she completely knocked it out of the park. I absolutely adored these characters. Abby Jane was such a kick ass girl, and Brock balanced her out perfectly. I've said it before, but LK Farlow writes characters you can't help but want to be friends with. She's quickly become one of my top favorite authors, and at this point, I'm willing to read her grocery lists while I wait for the next book!
This is a first time read of this author for me and I have to say I really really enjoyed it.
Appearances can be everything, but they can also hide a lot if you look past them. I think that's the message I'm taking from the story. I loved that AJ and Brock had history and were given the chance to reconnect, something one wants and the other doesn't. Can the pain and mistakes of the past be overlooked for a chance at a future or will plans put in motion by others take even that opportunity away?
Equal parts sexy and funny, Rebel Heart was a fun journey and fantastic book. Farlow hooked me from page one and before I knew it, I was falling hard for Brock.
Rebel Heart was a fun and sweet enemies to lovers romance that made me smile and swoon all at once. AJ and Brock have amazing chemistry and their banter is spot on.
