Julian Lawrence just wants to play guitar, skip class, and get high, but everyone keeps bringing him down. Between the years 2000 and 2001, Julian's adolescence quickly turns from PG-13 to NC-17 as he tries to navigate through the 'real world' for the first time. With downloadable music from the era embedded in the book, these vignettes follow Julian throughout the Twin Cities as he learns some hard truths about addiction, recovery, relapse, and loss.
As an Edina grad this book is a trip - the hole, big fat walleye, the cafeteria bathroom smoker’s lounge, Uptown Ragstock, etc. The accompanying Spotify playlist is a great addition that helps set the stage for each chapter. Refreshingly honest. Insightful and not preachy.
