Or was I meant to be alone like I'd thought all along? Michael Coleman – “Phantom” I’ve always been a protector. During my career as a Navy SEAL, my duty was to find undisclosed information and protect my team. Now I need to protect the sexy rockstar I love flirting with every time he walks in the door to our EHM office. Adam Spencer lights me up like no one ever has. And that’s saying something. I’ll do whatever it takes to protect him, even from himself. Have I finally found the love I’ve been hoping for with my rockstar? This is entirely a me problem, since I went into this without having read the previous series this is a spin-off of and found myself completely lost in the sea of side characters and sub-plots. My bad.

There are a LOT of cameos and heavily featured couples I knew nothing about, and I probably would’ve enjoyed this more had I read the previous books. As it stands, I was just super confused.

I also know there’s a problem when I feel myself getting more invested in the side characters love story than the main one.

I couldn’t really connect with Adam and Michael. As fun as the banter and flirting was, the steam was a little lackluster and the relationship felt a little on the fast-track.

Halfway through and I don’t feel like playing guess who this person is anymore.

Adam and Michael ❤️

5 Stars ⭐️

"For the first time in my life, I felt like someone's first choice"

I know that I've probably said this before but I'll say it again and mean it even more. Rheland Richmond and Emerson Beckett have created magic together. This book is heavily series adjacent, it is not necessary to read what comes before but I highly recommend doing so...I promise, you will not be sorry.

This book was so incredible, the emotion and hurt/comfort side of this story flew off the pages and held on until the very end. The steady support and care that Michael showed Adam from the beginning was just extremely touching. Micheal was exactly the person that Adam, who was so broken inside, needed to see his worth and to realize that he was worthy of all good things in life, most importantly the feeling of being loved for the long haul. I fell equally in love with both characters, poor Adam just broke my heart, I wanted to wrap him up in the biggest mom hug and never let go and Michael....OMG, he was a big teddy bear with a heart of gold and a strong and steady presence that Adam needed in his life. The story had pretty much everything you'd need in a five star read, the sexy times were sexy, sweet times super sweet and a cast of characters that I can never get enough of. I am so excited for Cole and Patrick's story, I have a feeling that I'll be crying my heart out. I would 100% recommend this story, it was everything.

BORING….although the rockstar/bodyguard dynamic is among my favorites, this book disappointed my expectations:

- The use of nicknames is tiring, they are repeated like every two minutes….

- For half the book the story develops following the end of the MC’s relationship... the MC is upset because his relationship THAT LASTED 3 MONTHS has ended...

- Throughout the book there are parts largely dedicated to secondary characters, describing dynamics and family... perhaps my fault because they could be MCs of other books that I haven't read but for the purpose of the story they have little to do...

- I found the two MC rather flat and repetitive, as well as boring

- We talk about the rock band when the other two members are just mentioned at most twice... we have very little about concerts, rehearsals and things related to the band...

- Facts told that are not credible

The only thing I liked was the reunion with his father.

I was really excited to read this because I just loved the Package Deal series. For me this one didn't hit the mark. I loved getting to see some of the guys from the other books but I wanted more of Patrick and Cole even in this book.

I had a hard time with the story line, and didn't not really feel the chemistry with these two main characters. It did get better toward the end but still for me this one was just a miss. One of the main MCs inserting himself into finding a bio dad the other MC never knew anything about without really asking thoughts-just assuming what was right for him. Emphasis was placed on the demiromantic but I had a hard time with all that too.

I'm holding out because I've wanted Cole and Patrick's story for a long time and it's next but I'm crossing my fingers and hoping it doesn't let me down as this one did.

I'm so happy the authors chose to start this spin off of The Package Deal world, because I was not ready to let these characters go.
In this series, the main focus is not the Pirates football team anymore, but EHM Management and Security, the new agency Jesse Evans, Aidan Hayes and Marcus Monroe started at the end of the previous series; besides Aidan's management skills, they also provide security, thanks to Jesse's team, his close friends and former Seals, Phantom, Dreamboat and Daredevil.

What immediately drew me to this story was one of the MCs, Adam, bassist of the Fallen Angel and Cooper's former boyfriend. In Ineligible Receiver, Adam and Cooper started a relationship: Adam was very interested in him and totally committed, but Cooper was still too confused about Greg Foster and, after a few months of dating, he left Adam.
We didn't have Adam's pov in that book and reading about his pain now really broke my heart: the song Adam wrote about his breakup is heartbreaking and very emotional; I don't blame Cooper for loving Greg, but Adam did not deserve that pain.
During the development of this story, we know more about Adam and, sadly, that wasn't the only time he's been abandoned.
Luckily for him, Michael/Phantom is at his side with the clear intent of not giving up or leaving: Michael will help Adam to heal his emotional scars and to let himself open to love again.
I loved how Michael was committed to Adam, how he learned to read his feelings, how he was always there for him without pushing him.
I'm not going to leave spoilers, I'm just going to say that I adored all Adam's families, especially his strong bond with his brother Cole.
I also appreciated that, despite Michael affectionately calling him Rockstar all the time, Adam is a very down-to-earth man and he was never arrogant or conceited about his job (his bandmates too).

A lot of spicy scenes in this story, but my favourite are the tender moments between Michael and Adam and the sweet soft kisses and touches they exchange that show all their love for each other.

What prevented me from giving 5 full stars:
In my opinion, Adam should have had therapy sessions to help him cope with his abandonment fear issues.

The only angst here comes form Cole and Patrick's relationship: I urge the authors to write their story soon because they cannot leave us hanging after the first chaper teaser at the end of the book!

Totally recommended,

My advise.
Read The Package Deal series and We Could Do This Forever first: this is a found family world so all the characters have connections with each others.

I received an ARC from the authors and this is my honest review.

I love the Rockstar x Bodyguard trope so getting this MM romance was no exception! This was quite the rollercoaster for emotions. It did take me quite some time to complete my #ARC but glad to had read before New year heh. Loved Adam & Michael!

Adam is the Rockstar for fallen angels band, with abandonment issues, a pretty sweet person with insecurities. Michael "Phantom" is the bodyguard, he's flirty, charming, protective, also demiromantic. In some ways, they're total opposites!

The two's love & relationship is low angst, I just loved these 2. How they're there for eachother. It makes me wish we saw their 1st meet up. They got resolved so quickly (it seemed 🙈) that I was like where will this book go? But it did, heh. They're hot!

There are many subplots. The 1st one of the blackmail, which the key that pushes A+M closer. The authors could've done more for that easy climax but I guess, this was more realistic. The other was family, which was pretty sweet. I loved that Adam realises he's not alone, Got me teary. One major is about Adam's besties being in a pretty angsty relationship which will be leading into next book, I'm very curious about them & they take up quite a lot here.

So I read this as a standalone, it's better to read this as part of the world it is as it'll be easier tho I do like to see all the characters. The writing style was ok, but it felt disjointed at start. I did like the story, & am looking forward to Cole & Parker's story. It's gonna be angsty! RTC. Giving this a 4.5 "Rockstar+He-Man" stars ⭐.

I’m sorry, I really tried but I’m so bored. I don’t care about the story (flat), the MCs (also flat) or any of the numerous side characters. I just don’t. I also don’t like the way it’s written, it’s just so … meh 🤷🏼‍♀️

ADAM & MICHAEL 🤌🤌

I was so excited to go back into The Package Deal world and I enjoyed this book so much. I suggest you read The Package Deal series before starting this series so you are not lost with the side characters or their stories.

Adam is a member of the band Fallen Angel and their whole band has signed with EHM Security & Management which is owned by Aiden & Jesse ( we met them in The Package Deal Series ) and Jesse's SEAL friends. Michael or Phantom is a part of the security and is a big flirt with his Southern charm, I liked his character so much.
Adam & Michael had amazing chemistry, I delighted in their flirty banter and enjoyed it so much. When Michael was appointed as Adam's bodyguard because of a threat he was receiving they became more close.

I loved how much Michael cared about Adam and wanted to protect him and take care of him and his heart but Adam was abandoned in the past and had issues which was why he didn't pursue relationships and wanted to protect himself from hurting. But Michael was very patient with him and I loved how he could read his thoughts and say the right things to him. Their sexual chemistry was amazing but what I loved the most was their forehead kisses or kisses in general which were more intimate and felt right in the moment. I was so happy for Adam who got the family he deserved and Michael was with him at every step and protected him.

This book was a beautiful start to this series and I can't wait for Cole & Pattrick's story, I am so excited for them and I am looking forward to reading more books from the authors.

I had forgotten about this spinoff when it showed up for me to read. This was a great low angst story, Adam is very sweet but has abandonment issues and Michael (originally assigned as a bodyguard) was there to lay his doubts to rest.

I agree with other reviewers in that, although TECHNICALLY it can be read as a standalone it almost can’t without being confusing with past character interactions. There’s ALOT. Of course I recommend reading the Package Deal Series because it’s great, but without that these references are going to get confusing. Even Jesse’s backstory is told there, and his conversation with Michael really doesn’t mean much to someone reading this as a standalone.

I am definitely excited to jump in to Cole and Patrick, don’t know what Patrick has going on but I feel for both of them and am looking forward to their story.

I received an advanced copy from GRR in exchange for my honest review.

Good rockstar/bodyguard story without much relationship angst. I haven't read any of the main series of which this is the first of a secondary series but I didn't have any trouble following that. I would have preferred the stalker part to have been more of the plot and the issues between Cole and Patrick were a lot of focus in this book which perhaps could have been partially postponed mpre to their book.

Shannan – ☆☆☆☆☆
THE ROCKSTAR is the first book in The Portland Protectors – EHM Security series set in The Package Deal World. EHM is the security firm that Aiden Hayes, Marcus Monroe, and Jesse Evans started with help from Jesse's Navy SEAL brothers, Daredevil, Phantom, and Dreamboat. This is a spin-off series, BUT I feel you get so much more from the heavily included past characters and relationships in the story knowing the history compared to starting here.

Adam's story essentially started in INELIGIBLE RECEIVER, Adam was dating Cooper and Cooper was all in his head about Greg Foster. Adam was in love with Cooper, but Cooper wasn't there with him and broke it off. Seeing Adam's point of view in that scene is heartbreaking. The trauma that Adam still has from his mother abandoning him as a child and Cooper picking Foster just lead him to further believe that everyone leaves, and he's not worthy of real, emotional love. After the song he wrote for his band, Fallen Angel, detailing his heartbreak, Fallen Angel is the next up and coming band. Aiden takes the band on as clients, thus having EHM provide security. Adam enjoys flirting with Phantom every chance he gets. Their banter is the highlight of his day. When another note appears on his apartment door demanding money, Jesse and Aiden immediately go into action to find out who is behind the blackmail. As much as Adam doesn't want it, they decide he needs 24/7 security. Phantom is the man for the job.

Michael aka Phantom is a decorated SEAL. He loves the work he's doing for EHM and when his next assignment is Adam, Michael knows he should stop flirting with the man but he enjoys it so much and he can see it helps relax Adam. Michael is demiromantic and quickly realizes Adam is someone special and he wants to see where these feelings with Adam go. Michael can see the fear in Adam, knows that he thinks he's unlovable. He'll do everything in his power to show Adam he's not going anywhere and he's worth so much more than he thinks he is.

I love The Package Deal World. Seeing all these great characters so intermingled in each other’s lives. Michael and Adam have such sweet flirty banter early on. Adam is so scared to be vulnerable with Michael, but Michael so easily holds all the pieces to keep him whole. It's such a sweet romantic story. Michael is the first demiromantic character I've ever read and doing some research so I understood completely, I found his sexuality was written so well.

I can't wait for what's next for Cole and Patrick. My heart just breaks for these two who are so clearly in love with each other but stuck in the closet.

Ruthie – ☆☆☆☆
This is a new series, but written in the same world as the Pirates Football team (The Package Deal). If you have read those, you will remember Adam and his failed relationship with Cooper, as well as the founders of EHM. If you haven't, you can still really enjoy this story, but I am guessing you will be tempted to go and read them too!

Adam's success with Fallen Angel has attracted attention and his safety is considered at risk, so Phantom/Michael is charged with keeping him safe whilst EHM find out who is posing the danger. This is no hardship for either of them in that they have been flirting for a while, but is also a bit of a nightmare, as suddenly they are together all the time and all those jokey flirts are now being tested.

We get to read each of their points of view as the story progresses, and it is fun having all the information as they decide how to overcome their anti-relationship issues and their strong attraction. This is sharply in contrast with the reality of Adam's stalker, and his expectation that it is his addicted, neglectful mother who is responsible. There is a good twist in the detecting of what is going on, which gives Adam something he never expected.

I really enjoyed this story and will be adding this series to my list of books to look out for!

I loved this book. Then again, I also loved pretty much everything about the Package Deal series so I’m not surprised. These two deliver enjoyable HEAs time and time again.

Adam has some abandonment and self-worth issues left over from his childhood and he’s feeling raw from the end of his last relationship. Having given up on love, he’s content getting ready for his tour and having fun flirting with a certain ex-SEAL.

Michael is demiromantic and hasn’t really experienced that deeper connection with anyone before. While he enjoys teasing Adam, this time it seems a little different. When there’s a threat to Adam his protective side comes out and it doesn’t take long to realize that it definitely means something more.

Adam and Michael’s interactions are all in fun at first but then quickly develop into a romantic connection. Michael is so patient with Adam as he deals with his trauma from being abused and abandoned by his mother. Michael’s unwavering support helps Adam realize that he is worthy of love & commitment. It’s endearing and low angst and very satisfying.

The stalker/blackmailer story line isn’t as huge a part of the story as the romance, which surprised (and dismayed) some. But it does work to get these two together and to give Michael an excuse to find Adam’s father. Which is all sorts of heart-warming and helps to put some of Adam’s ghosts to rest.

Cole & Patrick’s relationship has a pretty decent side story here too, which makes sense as they are both very important parts of Adam’s life and they’ve all been close for decades. It also heavily sets up the next book, which some found a little too much for this story.

(Speaking of which – Rheland! Emerson! Why did you have to tease us so much with Cole and Patrick? And seriously that preview for the next book! Readers, don’t read it unless you want to be anxiously waiting for The Linebacker which doesn’t release for another 2 months! I’ll be sitting on pins and needles until March. *sigh*)

Emotional, funny, and sweet, The Rockstar is a gratifying start to a new series. Both characters are likeable, they are entertaining together, and watching their relationship develop into something more made me so happy.

(At first, I thought this one could stand on its own but after reading some of the other reviews I think maybe it CAN but probably shouldn’t. There are a lot of characters from the Package Deal world who are either mentioned or make an appearance. And while they don’t play a direct role here I know that it can be confusing and annoying when you don’t know who they are. But then again those books are good reads so you can’t go wrong starting there are ending here :) )

"No one had ever chosen me. And it was becoming increasingly clear that I wasn't meant to be loved like that."

Oh Adam. You sweet, sweet boy. I wasn't sure how I felt about Adam before starting The Rockstar. He appeared first in Ineligible Receiver as Cooper's boyfriend. A man who was in the way of Cooper being with Greg, so it didn't exactly endear me to him. But these two authors worked their magic and by the end of the damn prologue I was firmly in the I love Adam camp. He broke my damn heart. Yes he may be a famous rockstar now, but he wasn't always. Once he was a scared little boy who more than anything in the world, wished for a parent who loved him. For anyone to love him really. And though he was eventually taken in by his best friend Cole's family, the fear of abandonment never truly left him. Trauma will do that to a person.

I absolutely loved Phantom aka Michael. He was exactly what Adam needed in his life. Michael saw him, the real him. His work as Adam's bodyguard kept these two in close quarters which gave Michael a lot of opportunities to get to know him outside of his file. He'd already enjoyed spending time with Adam as a friend, but I think he surprised even himself when he started to develop romantic feelings for him as well.

"I kissed him like I'd never kissed him before. I let all the fear and pain from always being everyone's second choice go.

For the first time in my life, I felt like someone's first choice. "

Michael is good at reading people and I think that helped immensely with his relationship with Adam. Adam tended to get all up in his head a lot. Michael could usually tell when this was happening and instinctively knew how to help. Whether with words or a sweet kiss on the forehead, Michael would always work to bring back the smile on Adam's face. I just loved them together and I couldn't have asked for things to turn out better in the end for them both.

Now the next book is going to be Cole and Patrick. Thank freaking goodness because I already told Miss Beckett I may have started a revolt if I had to wait for a another book between this one and theirs. Cole is such a wonderful man and friend. I hate that he's hurting and that it's the man who loves him who's the cause. Those two need to figure their shit out and they need to do it yesterday. For all our sakes.

The Rockstar is the first book in the Portland Protectors - EHM Security series. I would recommend reading The Package Deal series and We Could Do This series because they are all closely linked.

I really liked the connected series so when I saw this book was MM rockstar x bodyguard I just had to read it.
Adam (aka Rockstar) and Michael (aka Phantom) are so romantic together! Their flirty banter and sweetness made this friends-to-lovers book swoon worthy.
Adam was very vulnerable and needed lots of love and encouragement and Michael effortlessly gave Adam everything he needed.
I loved and connected with both of them but I do feel like I didn’t fully know who they were.

I thought it was great that there was demiromantic explanation at the beginning where the authors made it clear that it’s different for each person.

I wasn’t quite sure what the blackmailer/ stalker plot line really added to the story. When it was revealed who it was, it felt anti-climactic.

I loved the sense of found family in this book. The interactions with Michael and Adam’s families made me smile each time.

Really looking forward to the Linebacker (Cole and Patrick’s story), why did I read the sneak peak?!
Also excited for Daredevil and Dreamboat’s books.

This book does contain sensitive content such as mention of child abuse, mention of domestic abuse that results in death, mention of substance misuse including overdose and blackmail.

Adam Spencer is a rockstar and is convinced that some people are not meant to find love. After a painful breakup, he channelled all his hurt into a song that has skyrocketed his band, Fallen Angel, to the top of the charts. Now he needs protection from the one person who was supposed to love him no matter what—his mother. Whether he wants him or not, he now has a sexy, silver-tongued southern charmer as his 24/7 bodyguard. He tried not to fall for him, because he doesn't do relationships but Michael has him thinking he could take one more chance to find love. Michael Coleman is known as “Phantom” and has always been a protector. During his career as a Navy SEAL, his duty was to find undisclosed information and protect his team. Now he needs to protect the sexy rockstar he loves flirting with every time he walks in the door to our EHM office. Adam Spencer lights him up like no one ever has. And that’s saying something. He'll do whatever it takes to protect him, even from himself. Has he finally found the love he'd been hoping for with my rockstar?

I loved this story with the two men who constantly flirted with each other which was also a strange basis to start a relationship when they had to live together. Their personalities and interactions were well described and easy to feel. I loved their banter and the way they behaved towards each other.I was fully invested in their relationship and wanting them to succeed. Easy to read, feel and understand. This was an MM story with mature content.

The Rockstar is book 1 The Portland Protectors-EHM Security series which takes place in the Package Deal world.

« rockstar x bodyguard »
« demiromantic MC »
« friends-to-lovers »
« flirty MCs »
« blackmail »
« childhood trauma/abandonment »
« found family »
« sweet x spicy »
« low angst »

I am so happy that Emerson and Rheland decided on this spin-off because I was not ready to say goodbye to the Package Deal world and characters. Although this book could technically be read as a standalone I would advise to read the Package Deal series and We Could Do This Forever first.

This book was the perfect balance of flirty/witty banter, deep emotion, spice, and character development. I literally couldn’t put it down once I started, which was no surprise to me! Another phenomenal book by this duo! No one does found family better than these two. This book is no exception! Found and chosen families are such an important aspect to include in queer stories, which is never overlooked in this spin-off or the original series.

If you are familiar with the Package Deal world, Adam and Michael are the perfect mix of Simon/Jackson and Declan/Callum. Simon and Jaxon were always my number one couple but these two might just steal the number one spot! The couple are natural flirts – if you like banter with enough sexual chemistry and sexual tension you could cut it with a knife, look no further! Adam and Michael have sexual chemisty for days. But this does not overshadow the tenderness, love, and emotions that build between the two. Both are a little broken, in different ways. But maybe they weren’t really broken, maybe they were just needed to find each other to realise that.

”For the first time in my life, I felt like someone’s first choice.”

The authors did such a good and realistic job with Adam, specifically. From a social worker perspective, I’ve seen so many times how abandonment and issues with attachment can continue to effect kids who have experienced abuse and have been in the foster care system as they grow into adulthood. Michael was perfect for Adam - never wavered or got annoyed with Adam. He was the calm to Adam’s storm - reminding him he was safe and that he wasn’t going to leave him.

“I’m afraid,” I whispered, knowing it was okay to say that to him. “Somehow, I’ve given you the power to destroy me. And I’m terrified you’re going to break me.” Michael looked at me with warmth and affection, once again the balm to my battered soul. “I know,” he said, rubbing his hand over my hair. “And I know your heart has been bruised every way imaginable. I’m just asking for the chance to put it all back together and keep it safe.”

I thought giving the explanation of demiromantic in the beginning to be an important touch. The authors explain this this isn’t a blanket definition and can be different for everyone. I think that was a very important and meaningful thing to add.

“For the first time in a long time, I felt more than a biological need for another person. I wanted everything from him. All his kisses, his pain, and his happiness. I wanted to spend every waking moment with him and make him smile. I wanted to protect him from ever being hurt again. I was falling for my Rockstar.”

I highly recommend this book! I can’t wait for Cole and Patrick’s book. They give me Cooper and Greg vibes, but with less golden retriever vibes which is pure Coop lol.

I love the Package Deal series. So I was excited to start the new series, which is set in the same world so I could see some the characters I already knew and love. Also, it was nice getting updates on their lives.

Adam, who is The Rockstar, was in book 5 - Ineligible Receiver of The Package Deal series. Without ruining that book if you haven’t already read it - he was with one MC while he was on a break, but not really, from the other MC.
He did some things to keep them apart, but in the end he got hurt and that’s the start of this book…

Now, we’re 3 years later. Adam and his band are about to sign a major contract, all due to the song that he wrote after the breakup. He’s also sworn off relationships.

As the band is very popular and about to head out on tour, talking about security, someone from Adam’s childhood comes back. I would refer to the trigger warnings here, some of it was hard to read.

Adam thinks he’s meant to be alone.

He needed to get through his past scars to learn to trust another person.love again.

Enter Michel Coleman (Phantom) - as an aside I always love when ex-military guys have cool names. I like finding out why they have the name.

Phantom, who already has a nice flirty relationship with Adam is assigned to protect him.

So we already have the attraction, but Adam is a person with a lot of baggage and Phantom is his bodyguard.

I love a good flirty, friends to lovers + bodyguard and rockstar MM romance and this one ticks all of my boxes!

I’d say you don’t have to read The Package Deal - which is a series of sports romance (that I also love), but you will probably enjoy it more if you know those characters and where they fit in as well.

Either way, I’m waiting for Book 2 already!

I was provided an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Rockstar and He-Man are my absolute favourite couple from this Portland realm that Emerson and Rheland have created. And that’s saying something because I love a lot of them.

And I’m excited by this EHM Security direction the new series is taking us, I think we’re going to see some fun scenarios out of it and of course, we still get to see plenty of the old friends we’ve met and love.

The Rockstar has a bunch of drama surrounding them, but their relationship is pretty stable, which I love. These two are super flirty and a lot of fun. Michael is such a wonderful guy, protective, nurturing, thoughtful. Major swoon. He has a dream of working for Homeland Security but he’s kind of at a crossroads in his life and meeting Adam and falling in love has made him rethink what he thought he wanted.

Adam is a really down to earth up and up-and-coming rockstar with a tragic past that resurfaced in a nasty way. Enter his bodyguard. He feels safe in Michael’s care, and not just physically. I love his growth and the direction his story takes.

The ending is mushy and sappy and downright lovely.

Kind of sappy but I enjoyed it.

I did enjoy reading this story but have to admit that it was a bit over-the-top sappy for me. The cutesy names that the two MCs called each other were almost too much. He-Man and Rockstar – OK Rockstar kind of makes sense and wasn't too bad but He-Man just didn't work for me. It would have been OK if it was only used a few times but it was over and over again and just didn't work for me as a term of endearment.

Having gotten those negative comments out of the way, I must say that I did enjoy the story itself. I've always enjoyed a good bodyguard romance and this one was pretty good other than what I said above. I think you will enjoy this book better if you've read the series that it was spun off from: The Package Deal.

I felt bad for Adam and the issues he had with abandonment. It was very difficult for him to believe that Michael wasn't going to leave him like it seemed everyone else had. I was happy that he resolved things with Cooper so that they weren't awkward around each other any longer.

I'm looking forward to reading the next book because I really want to read Cole and Patrick's story.

A copy of this book was provided to me at my request and my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.

4.25 Stars!

I had not read The Package Deal series before reading this one. However, upon reading the information at the beginning about this series, I made sure to read enough of Ineligible Receiver to know what happened to Adam in that story before starting this one. The authors also suggested reading Roughing the Kicker, but I found I was able to read this one without it. I may go back and read that book when I get a chance since I'm seriously intrigued by Jesse.

Adam and Michael knew each other before the threats to Adam required full-time protection. I loved that they already had some trust between them and that it only got better as they spent more time together. Their flirting was epic, but takes a more serious turn as they spend more time together.

I gave Michael a lot of credit for being so honest with Adam about the change in his feelings and what that meant to him. I loved that Adam gave Michael a chance considering his past. I liked that Adam opened up more and that Michael made sure to reassure Adam when he needed it. I loved all that Michael did to help Adam with his security problem as well as his family issues. I was happy that things worked out well for Adam in the end and that he had Michael at his side the entire time.

4.25 ⭐

I stumbled upon this book on the final day of 2023, and it provided a delightful conclusion to the year. It's a low-angst story with the rockstar x bodyguard trope, which I find particularly appealing.

Adam, the lead of the Fallen Angels band, is depicted as a gentle soul grappling with insecurities and profound abandonment issues. While Michael, also known as "Phantom," is the charismatic and protective bodyguard (who happens to be demiromantic). Despite neither seeking a romantic relationship, it was beautiful witnessing them coming together.
Michael's unwavering support and care become the cornerstone of Adam's healing, helping him confront his inner demons and recognize his own value, ultimately understanding that he deserves enduring love. Amidst the steamy scenes, it's the tender moments between the main characters that truly resonate.

Alongside the central romance, there are several subplots that keep the reader engaged. From a blackmail mystery that brings Adam and Michael closer together to the (new) family dynamics, each subplot adds to the narrative. Additionally, Cole and Patrick's angsty relationship serves as an intro that sets the stage for the sequel, adding an extra layer of anticipation.

All in all, this was a lovely way to bid farewell to the year, and I eagerly await the release of the next instalment.

This is a spin-off from The Package Deal series.

We met Adam in Cooper's story, Ineligible Receiver, and he definitely peaked my interest. Phantom came up in Jesse and Dominic's book, Roughing the Kicker, and in my opinion you need to read both books at least (better, read the whole series, you won't regret it) to really get the back story behind all the characters you meet in this book.

I liked the idea of Adam learning to trust another person and Michael to discover romance and love. There is the typical thrope of bodyguard moving in storyline but both guys are really funny, have chemistry and the actual romantic relationship comes slowly.

Adam really has trust issues, quite understandable based on his past which is done very well and comes out slowly and thorough. The poor guy really needs Michael's full attention to care. I love the "meet the parents" parts.

I think the protection bit came up too uninspiring, there was hardly anything and I expected a lot more suspense for a series about a security agency.

There was some issues with another couple which did cause some drama and took away from Adam and Michael's story.

I am sure I will continue reading because these two authors do create a world well-done.

There were so many ways that Adam was broken-hearted. He didn't know who his dad was, his mother was neglectful and he was removed from her as a child and then she hounded and tried to extort him in his adulthood and then there was Cooper. Adam desperately wanted that relationship to work out and there was no way that it could as Cooper's heart belonged to another. However, from these things came some good things. Getting removed from his mom brought him to Cole and his parents and they became his family. He and Cole formed Fallen Angel and the band had its breakthrough hit on a song that Adam's heartache helped him create. And Fallen Angel hitting it big brought Michael into Adam's life as first his bodyguard and then his love. Lots of bad happened to Adam but as he worked his way through and thrived he also found what he wanted most. Lots of love including finally finding his biological father who loved him unconditionally. Adam and Michael are both funny and sweet together and they desperately want their relationship. It was nice to read Adam's story and see him get himself together. And sad to read about Cole and Patrick. I can't wait to read their story in the next book.

Adam has always felt like he is undeserving of love and the one-time he went all in in a relationship it ended badly which has only destroyed his self-worth even more. They’ve known each other for awhile and have always had a relationship with lots of flirty banter but Michael falls hard for Adam once they begin an intimate relationship. Adam’s history broke my heart the more we learn and Michael is his rock through and through. I was glad he had someone to lean on while he was going through it.

I wouldn’t consider ‘The Rockstar’ a standalone and would highly recommend that it needs to be read after ‘Ineligible Receiver’ to get some of Adam’s backstory and to know firsthand why he starts off so extremely anti-relationship in this book. There are also a lot of cameos which could result in confusion if you’re not aware of all the inter-relationships going on.

There was a wonderful set up for the next book between Cole and Patrick who we have met previously and I’m sure it’s gonna be a hard one but Beckett and Richmond are always able to write difficult topics without becoming dark and angsty. A very enjoyable read!

Adam/Rockstar, is just becoming famous. Finally getting everything he’s ever wanted. Except someone to love him and never leave. His bodyguard didn’t figure into his future plans. Michael/Phantom, bodyguard. Being attracted to the man he’s protecting wasn’t in his plans either. Neither man was prepared for the effect they would have on each others lives.

The premise of a stalker didn’t really have the full potential it should of had. It brought Adam and Michael together but it felt like a poorly executed plot device. I thought the search and finding of Adam’s family was much more interesting.

I did like the sense of family between the various characters. This was probably the best part of the book. Michael and Adam’s relationship, while sweet and spicy, just didn’t have the pizazz I usually want to see from main players.

While the blurb says it can be read as a standalone I don’t really think it can. To many side characters and relationships that need more explanation. The story was okay, it just doesn’t seem memorable.

Adam Spencer’s childhood was difficult to say the least. Then he landed in a foster home with his friend and his family and his life changed. Now he is a musician who was a hurt by a painful breakup. He poured that hurt into a song that rocketed his group, Fallen Angel, to the top of the charts. At the same time, he picked up some danger from the one person who should never hurt him. He is given a bodyguard and he finds the man amazing but falling in love can never be for him. Sometimes, the heart does not care what you want. That heart wants Michael Coleman, the Phantom. Michael as his bodyguard knows he would do anything to keep Adam safe but his desires go beyond his normal duties.

Adam and Michael are fantastic heroes. You cannot help but fall in love with them. Adam was so broken when Michael took over as his bodyguard. He felt that everyone leaves him and he was not worthy. Michael showed how that was not so. You really want a happy ending for these two. Do they get that happy ending? Pick up The Rockstar to find out for yourself. You will be glad you did.
