It is an engaging story that spans heroes, universes, and villains. It is a long read but in the end worth the time invested. I will admit that not every chapter was a barn burner but the nights I stayed up after midnight reading the books will attest to the chapters that are barn burners. There is just enough military action and technology to keep my attention. I was at times dismayed at the lack of military decorum exhibited by the characters but I got over it. It is a frightening look at the "woke" culture and how it will ultimately destroy society. I am thankful the author included that element in the story. I am reminded that Starship Troopers was written a warning about the social decay that was prevalent at the time of the writing. I digress, that is a great story and I recommend it.
A Long and Winding Road Through Space🚀💫💥 Military, Mercenary Sci-fi ten volume complete series!
I read and I read and I.read, but I just could not get interested in the characters or the never ending storyline. Gave it up about 30%. I got this e-book series from Amazon with Kindle Unlimited. Its the age old saying that is so true, " quantity is not quality".
Three complete series taking place into the same universe in the same timeline, two divergent sets of plots, each with it's own fascinating characters, all merging into a finale that will have your mouth gaping in astonishment and delight. What is not to like? Hmmm. Let me count the ways. Long, fascinated hours spending reading and more reading...as if you have no choice here. You do, but the reading part is too good to miss out on. It is fun. Finding Vin Husher and Jake Price doing what they can to safeguard star systems and an amazing number of alien races from the machinations of the enigmatic Progenitors, is an irresistible magnet. Action galore. Immersive and compelling plots book after book. Just check out the existing reviews for each individual book. All in one box set is no doubt the deal of the century. Yep. What is there not to like! Enjoy.
This is a really good series: 10 books for 1 credit in the Audible store. Over 75 hours of play time. The story is complex, easy to follow, and enjoyable. It's the story of the Captain of a starship and his successor as they try to save the galaxy from an AI threat. It has ships (destroyers, corvettes, and carriers as well as supercarriers), MechWarriors, squadrons of fighters and bombers, all sorts of missile ordnance, and a few other technologies that come later. The ship-to-ship battles start off small and work their way up to huge campaigns, and Bartlett describes it all deftly and succinctly. It's a lot of fun and a wild ride. It is not, however, part of the Battlemech series. It is just a "Standalone" series with Mechs. If you have a SciFi itch that needs 75 hours to scratch, this is for you.
This saga started excellently. (Possible spoiler alert with the following...) It took a different tack with follow-up, which wasn't as adventurous or engaging as the initial portion of the story. It redeemed itself later on but it seemed to drag getting to it. I would venture a guess it was a try at justifying the inclusion of the change in characters within the plot. Tedious at it seemed, I believe it worked at the end. So no points deducted. All-in-all, I enjoyed the tale. I read the introduction piece for the next installment and I have to admit I'm looking forward to perusing the series. If you want a Battlester Galactica style space read, this will fill that bill. Enjoy!
I rarely read books a second time with fewer than a couple of years in between.
This was an exception, moreso because it's a 10-book collecrion.
CaptIain Husher and his XO Fesky make an incredibly realistic pair of military phenoms, augmented by a major staff of experts. Throw in the MIMAS and Price's alien Mech on the good side, versus the incredibly evil Progenitors of IXA, GOK and various others working withTeth, a master ov Evil, and you've got a masterpiece of conflict.
Not to forget Ochrim, a mad scintist of the highest order.
This seies was spellbinding and I enjoyed it even more the second time around.
The has been the longest series I’ve read straight through. The break into the Mech Wars part, was more of an unwanted distraction. The overall plot was just okay. All the characters seemed to be flat or two dimensional at best. If the author had put a little more effort into their backstories, I might have rated this series higher. At least the author didn’t regurgitate a lot of history between books to keep readers refreshed. I don’t like to reread material like that. Another short coming in the series were minimalistic scene settings. Scene settings can make me feel like I was there; which wasn’t the case for this series.
It was good but not great. I couldn't relate to any of the characters since they were constantly contradicting their so-called morality with stupid decisions that got people killed plus the author has a serious case of TDS that he kept trying to justify through the irrational actions of his characters. It became tedious and annoying to all of the sudden be dropped into a lecture on taking the moral high ground and then the character would turn right around and assassinate others and justify it by claiming that they were the baddies. It would have been great if the author cared more about writing a story instead of jumping up on his soap box every 10 minutes.
This Ixan series took me a long time to read. Lots of space battles, complex characters, twists and turns and plot developments… the beginning was a little hard for me to keep all the people/places separate. But the more I read, the more I could visualize the players. Pretty PG- almost no sexual innuendo and no sex scenes. Tons of aliens, both good and bad. Book 6? 8? had a storyline of discrimination/civil justice for all species. It was my least favorite of all the series. (I get enough of that fight in real life.)
Overall this is a very good and interesting series. There are some parts that initially feel disjointed but that all come together nicely by the end. I think the author did a good job of developing characters and a good story line even if some parts of the story I liked better than others. They all work out in the end, but keep this in mind if at parts you feel the same way. Worth the time to read.
It was so nice to get to read a new book based on Cpt. Vin Husher. The author did not disappoint. A short but good story with an ending that made me laugh. It made me want to read the entire series all over again. And I will because I like this series so much that it’s one of the very few series that I want to read again. Thanks to the author for a nice trip down memory lane.
I thought the author’s universe building was good and he came up with some interesting diverse species to inhabit it. The character building was good and he moved the focus of the story’s around to the various characters. The author developed his universe throughout the story arc and included back story’s.
Non-stop action. Plenty of intrigue, spectacular characters, lots of strategy, betrayal, and a little bit of romance. Once you start, you will need to keep reading, so set aside a bit of time for yourself. I have read the individual books, and will be reading the box set to reacquaint myself and get a bit of excitement in my life.
It has a lot of ups and downs as far as life goes or could go! You have war, peace, futuristic possible outcomes, life, and death! A lot of books so lots of entertainment. In later books, the politics happening reminds me of today's politics in real life now! Scary and entertaining at the same time! Really good read 😉
Well written series each with an exciting scenario to keep your interest to the very end , characters and storylines make this a very interesting box set of books read and enjoyed immensely and would recommend highly
Every time you think you know where the arc of the story is going, you find out you know nothing. Additionally, the use of universal themes our world is currently facing, helps the reader relate on multiple levels.
Disjointed, was a labor to read. Was indeed a soap opera with inane occurrences thrown in just for shock value that do not follow the story line. I won't bother wasting my time with this author again
Well I don't give out five stars lightly. But I very really finish a series with this many books and thousands of pages. Even the last book and chapter I was looking forward too. This book was amazing.
Whether humans fighting humans or aliens fighting humans or aliens fighting aliens , or all fighting robots and AI’s this book had it all. Must destruction and death but in the end some peace for all. Great characters and read. Big D
Imagination is a powerful and fun tool to take flight through the galaxy!! This is where these books took me, in my Mech, or flying in my starship! If your an adventure junkie, you will enjoy reading these books. Well done!!!!
A lot of action! Description of aliens and worlds was very good! Was sorry it was over! Mach machines were a awesome concept. Remind me of Ironman on steroids. You will enjoy if like scifi books.
I guess its a fairly good story though it felt shallow. I felt disconnected from the characters as if spectating from twice the usual distance, if that makes imaginable sense.
