Just when I thought Valentine's Day couldn't get any worse, I hit some asshat on a motorcycle with my car. He's rude, garish, and one of those guys who knows exactly how hot he is. But he's also vindictive, proven when he sues me for damages even after my insurance pays for his fancy new bike and covers his medical bills. The balls on this guy, I swear. His audacity reaches new heights when my best friend stumbles across a viral post on social media. Jagger Saint Diaz, in all of his idiotic glory, snatched a microphone from a newscaster and announced on live TV that he thinks we should have a little hate sex. My inbox floods with people telling me he's looking for me. I try to tell him no, to get him to back off, but he's just as persistent now as he was in court. And you know what? Maybe I deserve to get something out of this, too. What else could he possibly do to me that he hasn't already done? It's a perfect plan. What could possibly go wrong?
Octavia Jensen is a coffee addict, a tale-spinner and a hopeless romantic, usually in that order. She spends her free time chasing adrenaline rushes or writing steamy, romance novels, and sometimes, those feel like the same thing.
I had so much fun reading this. The banter is super hot and the writing is funny!
On Valentine's day Remi had a devastating break-up. She drove home crying and pretty distorted so she hit a biker. It did not help that the biker was in a foul mood just as Remi. So they argued and Jagger the biker sued Remi for a quite a fortune.
Not only that, He had the guts to highjack a news microphone telling Remi to come and hate fuck him. On that premise we see how this unlikely couple fell deeply in love despite their horrible start, their hate and their insecurities.
4.5 stars this was a really fun time! Not quite 5 stars because I didn’t love the last part of the book as much as the rest, but I’m excited to read more of this author’s books.
TW - incest (off page, mentioned, not involving the MCs), car/motorbike accident (on page incl broken bones), alcoholic parent (recounted)
CW - toxic relationship, light impact play (slapping), spitting, CNC, choking, light edging, public play
Tropes - toxic relationship, hate / enemies to lovers, meet ugly
My first 5⭐️ read of the year brought to you by Octavia Jensen (everyone pretends to be shocked)
Jagger (also MMC) is decidedly not a meet cute and defo a meet ugly as he meets Remi (FMC) when she hits him off his motorbike with her car 💀 resulting in some broken bones and a court date. Naturally, court goes horribly and they hate each other until Jagger reaches out for some hate sex to put it all behind them
I don't typically rate novellas 5⭐️s but the way Octavia writes toxic relationships does it for me (am I the problem???). This book is for the people on Biker Tok or for the people that want a quick spicy read where the enemies actually despise each other but find a way to make it work plus a bunch of meddling friends you may know from The Night Cap, Break Me Twice and Xander (full disclosure, I also received an ARC of these books)
Scale: ⭐️ - would've DNF'ed / continued out of spite ⭐️⭐️ - shit, but whatever ⭐️⭐️⭐️ - meh, could've been better ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - lit 👅 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - loved it, inject this shit into my veins 🤪
🫑 - no smut 🌶 - no point 🌶🌶 - mediocre at best 🌶🌶🌶 - standard smut, hot 🌶🌶🌶🌶 - 🥵 okay, some CW 🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶 - fuck me 🥵🥵 CWs / filthy with a side of filth - see Poison / Room Twenty-Two: Hide and Seek/ The Naughty List
I Fully believe she puts some sort of drugs in her books because I'm HOOKED
4⭐️ 4🌶
Why does she do this to me?!? It's not fair to have books this deliciously deviant that I can't read just one! I can't stay away from them even at work! They are drugs, I tell you. DRUGS!
Since this is the 9th book I've read by her in 6 days, I might need some sort of detox 😆 🤣 Send help...... or don't 😉
Blushing and giggling, I scrolled my way through this book while trying desperately, to no avail, to hide behind my desk at work. I'm not ashamed to say I'm completely hooked, and Jagger is my new drug of choice. He is smooth and rough in ways that left me delirious. His mannerisms, his words, his thoughts! I could faint away. ( catch me while I swoon)
I was so happy to see Harvey, Xander, and Adrian pop up for a second helping. ( Boy, I've missed these boys ) reading this felt like going to a friend's family reunion and catching up on all the dirty details.
Remi!!!! She is a blast. An absolute best friend material, who might actually give mine a run for her money. She is funny, smart, and sharp as a whip. Quick with the comebacks but soft and delicate like a vicious little poisonous flower. She is everything that Jagger deserves and needs.
What happens when your meet cute is actually a meet ugly?
Remi & Jagger’s meet cute includes her hitting him with her car 🤪 Remi took that TikTok sound “he is literally just a guy, hit him with your car” to a new level
I was FERAL for Remi & Jagger. This man used the power of the news & social media to convince my girl Remi to give him the hate f*ck of his life and the chemistry between these two??? HOT.
This book was like living out the fantasy of meeting that womanizer bad boy where you think to yourself: I can fix him. Except, Remi actually does “fix” him and I was obsessed.
Their sexual chemistry bled into a romantic chemistry that I was squealing and kicking my feet over. Octavia’s writing constantly has me picking up and finishing her books in the same day because it is just THAT good.
This was a fun flirty push and pull read. An enemies to lovers trope done right. The banter was spot on, a mix of sexy, quick wit, and comedic relief. I loved how their relationship progressed over time, you could tell there was an attraction, a heat between them even though there was hatred involved… in the beginning 😏 the spice, perfect!
Something I really enjoyed was when the main characters confessed their feelings for one another and got together. There was no big argument or miscommunication that lead to a break up. I must say I am really getting tired of reading those story lines. I was bracing for impact while reading and it never happened! So thank you Octavia Jensen. It was sooooo nice to enjoy their love blossom after everything the went through. “It’s over. All of it in the past, and now… now we make it right. We may not have had the most movie worthy start, but it doesn’t steal our fate.”
The part that made your heart flutter was finding out Jaggers true emotions towards Remi since the moment they met. It was revealed by text messages Jaggers friends read out dating back to the night of the accident that made you swoon: “So I got hit by a car yesterday. I think I met my future wife. She was so angry about it, my dick is still hard.”
Remi isn't having the best of nights on Valentine's Day, but nothing is so bad that it can't get worse 🤣 and that's how she ends up hitting a motorcyclist with her car.
Jagger, the biker in question, is extremely hot, but an incurable womanizer and a bit of a narcissist, who sues her and gets a lot of money off our homegirl.
And that's how, out of mutual hatred, Jagger does what any normal man would do and proposes that they vent their anger in bed.😅
Out of Octavia's latest books, this is the one with the most 🌶️. Jay and Remi settle everything in bed, complete with face slapping, no condoms around, and a lot of dirty talking (from both of them, two deliciously dirty mouths).
Their relationship is a little toxic, but that's what makes it so s3xy and funny. And I loved seeing Jay's development, albeit brief, from incurable womanizer to Remi's cattle, just the way we like it. 🫶🏻
Another delicious story by Octavia, who never fails to entertain me.
It was really fine until the H was saying how in every relationship he had he got obsessed with them and that just made the h not so special. Also I hope the h got her money back cause man sued the shit out of her to the point she got in debt 😟✋
Heat level: 5/5. First time I've read hate sex that had me squirming in my seat. Jay has no business being this hot and filthy, but here we are. The ending though, such a tease. How dare the scene stop there. Come on! Dirty talk from both of them, hand necklaces from both of them, he spits, she slaps, he falls first and has those "mine" vibes, she fights it but the dick game is strong with this one. Cum just everywhere. I felt filthy after a couple of these sex scenes and I'm here for it. Left me a damn mess in my seat 🫠🥵
Concept was intriguing, but execution was not it. The progression from the characters meeting to the progression of their relationship made no sense. The writing lacked depth and the characters came across as immature.
I have no notes, this novella is fucking perfect. Like, literally perfect. If getting sued leads to getting stalked by a hottie like him, sign me the fuck up 😂
When Remi’s boyfriend leaves her for his cousin on Valentine’s Day, she doesn’t think her night can get any worse. All of a sudden she has been in an accident with no idea how she got there and finds she has hit Jagger on his motorcycle with her car. After he sues her for 10x what she’s worth, the hatred between the two of them brews. She never plans to see him again until her best friend shows her a TikTok of Jagger saying he’s looking for her to have a hate hookup. Lucky for him, she’s having a rough day and takes him up on the offer; but can they stay in hate and not fall in love? This was an amazing read!! The writing was brilliant and I laughed out loud so many times! I loved that every chapter was named with song lyrics and the jokes hit just right. The dynamic between Jagger and Remi was perfect; undeniable and spicy. This was my last read of the year and definitely ended it perfectly!
I’m rating this five stars purely for the entertainment purposes and how hot and bothered it left me. The hate sex? I needed a moment. Also when we reached the part where the characters were admitting their feelings to each other, it wasn’t cheesy and the author navigated their feelings perfectly. I loved it
The first chapter was hard enough to get through, the banter between the characters made me embarrassed! I wouldn't recommend this, I know people like it and everyone likes different things.
I guess I have always associated hate sex to dark romances. Well colour me glad since I was wrong, cos this novella had me snorting out loud like a loon and clenching my thighs. With the knack for writing relatable characters and banter that cracks me up every time, Jagger was damn good.
“Maybe don’t talk,” I say the second he opens his mouth. “You’re better as eye candy.” The fucker snorts. “Like what you see then, huh?”
The hate and animosity is real and it’s mutual. Jagger and Remington meet during a motor collision and the outcome isn’t pretty. When all is said and done, it’s Remi bearing the brunt of it all. And even though she despises him, it’s Jagger that hustles Remi into a session of hate fucking. So much for a one-time occurrence.
“I don’t fuck like a good boy, Remington. You don’t want me to kiss your mouth?” He thumbs my bottom lip and then reaches to tug on my pants. “That’s fine. What about here, hmm? You still have kissing rules against me eating this angry little pussy?”
“Nope. You can suffocate and die down there for all I care. Put your mouth to good use.”
These two have nothing to lose apart from ‘no string’ orgasms because they're supposedly not into each other. But when chemistry aligns perfectly to your choice of sexual proclivities (think rough, dub-con, breeding kink), these two are struggling to maintain all that hate.
Jagger and Remi are soon questioning what the hell they are doing. Hang on to your panties while all that loathing disappears before their eyes because when its time to walk away, neither of these two are going anywhere.
That was absolutely fantastic, dark humor at its finest. I'll be honest, as we started this story I had no clue how we were going to find our way to a happily ever after... Hitting someone with your car and them suing the pants off of you is a lot to overcome on both sides. But somehow, in less than 125 pages, Octavia not only did it, but made me believe it was possible too.
I adored these two. The banter between Jay and Remi was freaking epic. The hate spice was incredible. And watching them truly fall for each other was so dang sweet. I loved them both so much I almost couldn't handle it.
Octavia is very quickly becoming one of my favorite authors and I'm so excited to read more outside of this world. But up next is our other playboy, Rhodes, and I can't wait to see what she has in store for me next.
Imagine you are having the worst day of your life literally crying in your car driving home and you accidentally hit a man on a motorcycle. Said man who was banged up , but ok then antagonizes you to the point of you both having a full blow argument. Fast forward he files a law suit against you and wins a fuck ton of money. Now double depressed you happen upon a viral video on social media where said asshole propositions you to a hate fuck.
Ya’ll I laughed way more than I thought I would with this story. Jagger and Remi are so unhinged and toxic.
Not sure why this is categorized as a “dark romantic comedy” that feels very misleading.
This is a classic enemies to lovers with lots of spice. No darkness to be found.
This was so fun! I think if you’re looking for something short and spicy, this is a good read to get your fix. It starts off with Remi getting into a car accident, hitting a motorcyclist. Jagger Diaz took her to court, and he won the case, but Remi is now debt ridden and pretty angry. When Jagger posts a social media challenge to Remi, she actually takes him up on it. I don’t think she expected that crazy attraction to Jagger, but deep down, Jagger actually really likes Remi and wants to give it a try. She’s hesitant and a little hurt by his actions, but eventually he proves that he’s always liked her, he was just a little misguided. I thought this was fun.
Two words = hate fucking. An emotionally charged relationship from the beginning between the leads. She smashed his bike so he wants to smash her in return. The banter is fun and then moves into feelingsville and it ends with a HEA. The steamy scenes are filled with excellent dirty talk and I think how the author works the Cadbury egg approach of her male leads is top notch. They’re beautiful men and so of course they’re just asshats, but they turn out not to be and the smart lady lead getting checked is part of you falling for the ‘ship.
I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to read this book. It was such a good story. I love the enemies to lovers with the banter and the hate smex. I was here for it 👏🏼
In the beginning I wasn’t sure how we’d make it from enemies to lovers in a novella, but we quickly went from enemies to lovers and I was here for it! The hate smex and the smut in this book were phenomenal! I loved Remi and Jay together. Jays friends were amazing with their commentary had me cracking up 😅
If you love a short, smutty and enemies to lovers story this is for you 👏🏼😍
If you’re searching for a quick, fun, and delightfully spicy Valentine novella, look no further. This one had me laughing out loud with its clever puns and sharp banter! Jagger and Remi’s chemistry is off the charts, perfectly capturing the enemies-to-lovers dynamic in just 128 pages. The plot? Engaging from start to finish. And the side characters? Absolutely nailed. Overall, this novella is a must-read! The author is pretty darn cool. Check her out.
I enjoyed this romcom very much. I just wish it was longer. This story is so good. It's super funny and cute. I couldn't stop reading it. I enjoyed the angry, funny banter. The angry s*x. You could feel the tension and lust. I loved all his nicknames for Remington. I loved Remington's 'angry' attitude. I was expecting Jagger to be the bad boy, but he's just the cutest ever. (Swoon). I would have liked more of Jagger's POV. Definitely recommended.
This was everything I needed right now. Their banter was top tier, the story made sense. It was written well. The characters were good together. For what it was intended to be, it was the perfect length. It wasn't until the chapter title Where Is Your Boy Tonight? I Hope He Is A Gentleman, that I realized they were all song titles/lyrics. It just added something so I added a star to the rating. Sometimes it's the little things.
This enemies to lovers was so funny and steamy! Such an amazing read, I could not put it down! Love the window, lol. The chemistry is off the charts, and the banter fits them perfectly and kept me cracking up. Jagger gets Remi out of her comfort zone and I am all for it. Remi also contributes to Jagger's character development from a womanizer to a simp. Such an awesome read!
