Oh god. What was this book??

I understand that this is a new author, and it’s her first book, but oh my god, I was waiting for it to get over.

Honestly, it felt like the author couldn’t decide on a particular conflict in the book, and just decided to mix everything up together, hoping that it’ll make sense. I suppose, in some ways, it gave the semblance of life and how chaotic it is, but after a point, it just kept getting annoying.

Zelda was an infuriating character. She was so confused and indecisive. I couldn’t understand the basis of which she made her decisions, because everything felt extremely abrupt and random. One second she’s with love interest 1 and the next second, she’s with love interest 2. Everything was about her constantly. She screamed when she wanted to, she was with the person she wanted to, and then broke up with them when she wanted to. It was as if, the two love interests were at her beck and call, just waiting for her to decide who to choose.

The dialogues were cringe, and the pace of the book was too fast and too slow. It did not have a proper connection to the main plot points, and everything felt out of place. There was no love triangle. There was just an on and off relationship, and everyone telling her what she should do, and she would do the exact opposite.

There was no buildup of tension or character. Everything seemed bland. I did not enjoy this book.

I loved this book. It’s dual POV between Scotland and NYC, which I loved. Edmund is a rockstar living in Scotland, and Zelda is living in NYC, in a bit of a relationship and career slump. Their relationship starts out as a penpal friendship, but turns into so much more. There’s heartbreak and angst, but also so many beautiful moments, with a touch of Daisy Jones and the Six vibes. This was a wonderful debut novel. (Also, the cover is gorgeous and there are beautiful chapter page illustrations!)

"Right Where You Left Me" is an absolute gem of a read! I mean, who doesn't love a good old-fashioned love story told through handwritten letters? Zelda and Edmund's connection jumps off the page and pulls you right into their world. It's like you're right there with them, feeling every emotion as they navigate through life's ups and downs. Plus, the whole long-distance thing just adds an extra layer of intensity to their relationship. Trust me, this book will tug at your heartstrings in all the best ways. So grab a cozy blanket, a cup of tea, and get ready to be swept away by this beautiful tale.

Wow! This book had me on a rollercoaster of emotions. I laughed, I cried, I got angry…I cried again. I think the characters were relatable and dealing with realistic struggles and challenges. The romance was so so sweet. And the spice was SPICEYYYY. I truly enjoyed reading this book and would recommend to anyone who enjoys the romance genre.

Quotes:
“He was my perfect storm, and my heart was in the eye of it.”
“Love is not just an emotion; it’s a choice. It’s to be able to love someone whole through the darkest of moments to the brightest.”

I really wanted to like this book but it just didn't work for me.

While I love dual POV, I did not like the main characters, unfortunately. Zelda is just kind of annoying, can't be by herself, and does not know what she wants. Edmund is okay but the minute they start talking to each other, I got annoyed because they sound like 15 year old teenagers instead of 30 year old adults having a relationship. The bouncing between two guys and Zelda not making up her mind really didn't vibe with me either.

This book also deals with mental health but again, I did not feel it. As someone who struggles with it herself, and has many people in her life who struggles with it, I usually 'enjoy' reading stories around this theme as it gives an insight into other people's experiences. While I applaud the author for adressing these issues, I wasn't really intruiged.

Right Where You Left Me holds promise but the execution just wasn't my thing.

Before I start with my review, please beware of the trigger warnings and proceed with care.

As Vanessa Stock mentioned in the book along with the content warning; “You are worthy. You are needed. You are loved.”

⚠️ TW: Cheating Trope, Suicide, Death, and Substance Abuse

First thing I want to say is.. I started crying as soon as I read the dedication. If you’ve been with me on this journey and stuck around for a while, you know that I LOVE dedications! And this one was perfect.

I loved the playlist as well. For once I know more than half of the songs hahaha

You know how you read a book and it just makes you so happy that you don’t even know if you wanna cry or smile so you do both at the same time? This book was that for me

It was such a comfort book!!!! I definitely.. definitely need to own this book. I need my paperback ASAP!

I would understand if some readers would think it’s too much or not real. But honestly, I felt everything. It takes so much courage to write something like that and it takes so much depth and experience to write and publish an ACTUAL book about this kind of stuff

This book hit home on so many levels. My most recent relationship ended after 3 years and a half and half of it was long distance. The struggles were real and very similar. The pain struck right in my heart but at the same time this book healed parts of me too. I am absolutely still madly in love with my ex and just like Zelda and Edmund, our time will come and we will work.

‘My love for you is unknown’. I wish you knew how right this statement is.

We’ve also struggled with death and cancer in the family and it has been a real troll on our mental health

Speaking of mental health, I like when authors mention this in their books. No matter how much it’s spoken about, I still believe it’s underrated and it should be represented as a form of awareness. This book showed different aspects of how raw these feelings and situations are and how difficult and real it is when dealing with it

PS: daisies are my favorite flowers and I love that ‘daisy’ was in the book

This book was everything I didn’t know I needed!

Edmund is doing his best to stay in the light and not let the darkness pull him in. He is struggling to figure out what his place is in life outside of the place expected by his family. So when he gets a reply to a letter ✉️ from someone unexpected, this provides him with the light in the darkness and a way forward.

Zelda struggles with doing what she thinks is the right and expected thing of her to do, versus following her heart. She is very reactive and this always seems to be to her detriment. Replying to a letter she should never have opened unfolds a struggle between her heart 💜, her mind and her-self worth.

What starts as pen-pals, evolves into email pals, then text and face-time friends📱. Love blossoms between them, but life keeps pulling them away from each other 💔. Something they both struggle with immensely as their lives move on.

I went through a roller-coaster of emotions reading this one! There were twists and turns I was not expecting which kept me intrigued.

If you like fast paced, slow burn spicy contemporary romance that will hit you in the feels, then this book is for you. One section had me crying! It’s a quick, easy read, that doesn’t focus heavily on scene setting, but rather gets straight into the nitty gritty of life and romance.

where do i begin with this book. i really enjoyed the first part of it. i enjoyed the characters and was really enjoying the plot. however as i continued to read it, i grew to dislike not only zelda but edmond as well. the one thing that made me not enjoy zelda’s character as she was so indecisive. one minute she’s wanting to break up with james and when james proposed suddenly she can’t break up with him. then she randomly decides to fly out to switzerland to see edmond. she proceeded to play dumb when she in fact ruin someone’s relationship. the pacing throughout the entire book was inconsistent. parts of the book were rushed and other parts were very much dragged out.

I have no words for how this book made me feel. The most gut wrenching, heartbreaking but happy story I’ve read this year. Oh my gosh I loved it! The letters written between Zelda and Edmund were so sweet and cute! I loved feeling like I was the one reading them and feeling her emotions.
Reading how Zelda and Edmund’s relationship blossoms and their trial and errors throughout the book had me on a ride! James irked me so much, Zelda really deserved the best. Her relationship with her mom is so special, I hope I can have that type of bond with my daughter.

“Bobby sniffed back the tears. “Here you go.” He passed me a ticket to Scotland. “She really wanted you to go.” Wiping my tears, I glanced down and scrunched my nose. “One way?” “The only way to be with the one you love.” “What if he doesn't want me?” I said. “Never know until you see.””

"Right Where You Left Me" by Vanessa Stock is an absolutely captivating and emotionally charged story that follows the journey of Zelda, a deeply strong and beautiful character battling with profound personal issues. The author's portrayal of Zelda's character development is both realistic and deeply moving, making it easy for readers to connect with her struggles and triumphs. I could see many of my own struggles in Zelda and then some I just wanted with all my heart to fix for her.

Edmund is just another level, he really has set the bar for what I expect in men.

Zelda moves into a new apartment and stumbles upon a love letter which starts an intriguing journey. Her decision to reply to it sets the stage for a rollercoaster of emotions, from moments of joy and love to thrilling adventures and heartbreak. Throughout the narrative, readers are taken on a journey of growth and self-discovery alongside Zelda, which adds a layer of authenticity to her transformation.

Vanessa Stock's writing is compelling, drawing readers in with its emotional depth and vivid descriptions. The exploration of love, loss, and the complexities of human relationships is masterfully done, keeping you engaged from start to finish.

In "Right Where You Left Me," Vanessa weaves a poignant and heartwarming tale that resonates with readers on a profound level. It's a story of resilience, hope, and the power of connections that linger long after you've turned the last page. This book is a must-read for anyone seeking a touching and immersive literary experience.

The spice is phenomenal, it is tasteful and just the right amount. Seasoned well if you will.

This may be the first book for Vanessa but I can confidently say this should not be her one and only. We need more!

I just got done reading this book and I was kind of confused about it at the beginning because all of the back in fourth that was going on with these different characters. But as I reading it I realized that this story is about a young woman just trying to get her life together and find happiness in life. I think she finally found it after going thought a lot of ups and downs and some devastating moment that had happened in this book. I was so sad

I loved this story SO MUCH.

This book took me on a roller coaster of emotions - which if you know me, you know I love. This book is just so emotionally charged that it was really tugging on my heart strings.

It follows along a dual pov of Zelda and Edmand, who I felt very connected to in this story. I felt they were both very unique and lovable characters which is something I value in a book. I really liked that they had a background that was shared prior to jumping into the story, so I felt more like I know them/who they are. This is something that is really important for me in a book.

I thought the story of how they met was just so heartwarming and pure. The slow burn was just perfect, and when they finally made things happen I was so excited for them. There were some parts throughout the story that was heartbreaking and emotional and YES I did cry a little tear. The love that they experienced is a type of love that you refer to when you say ‘love that’s like in the books’. That is the love that they have. The ‘lighter’ to your firecracker’. It makes my heart so happy that they had their happy ending.

I read this book in a day which is actually rare for me since I’m a busy mum, but I just couldn’t stop reading it. I was hooked the entire time and it held my attention really well. I felt there were many twists I wasn’t expecting in this story that kept me hooked and excited 😆💗

I would absolutely recommend this book! It’s such a heartwarming story that I think deserves to be read. I read this as an e-book but I loved it enough I would love to purchase it on paperback! 💗

Zelda finds a letter, from the previous owner, in her new apartment that sets so many things into motion. Because of this one letter, Zelda starts exchanging letters with a guy continents apart and finds a kindred soul. Full of heartache, struggles and love Zelda and Edmund are able to start helping the other heal. Is space too much to keep these two battered souls apart or will they be able to overcome the distance and defy the odds?

I was captivated from the very beginning when Zelda found the letter in her apartment and I kept being pulled back in with each new correspondence. This was a beautifully written story and I loved the messages hidden within it. Both of the main characters were emotionally wounded in one way or another, but together they are able to help each other start to heal. I really enjoyed this aspect of the book and liked the change from the butterflies and rainbows type of romance books I am used to reading. I liked the different layers in this book and could feel the characters pain through their struggles. I truly enjoyed this read and recommend it to anyone looking for a deeper romance read.

“I’ll be right where you left me.”

This book will tug on your heartstrings! It will have you feeling lots of different emotions, but the ending will leave you satisfied.

I really loved the dual POVs of Zelda and Edmund. And I enjoyed the addition of mixed media with inclusion of the letters, emails and texts.

I absolutely adored Clara (the best friend) and Eloise (the mom)- the way they were both there for Zelda no matter what, but also willing to set her straight with some truth she needed to hear.

I did think there could’ve been slightly less back and forth. A few times made sense, but think a couple could’ve been left out to avoid some repetition.

A quick and easy read! Recommend checking it out!💜

What an emotional roller coaster. I have never read a book that truly made me cry before. The FMC was so personable and relatable I felt like I was her. And I am a sucker for books where you read letters/emails/texts. Such an amazing love story with heartbreak and everything you can think of and so much more. I love how the author wrote the book minus a few grammatical errors but I easily looked those over with the beautiful story. It’s definitely one I will not forget and I will always recommend this book for a romance. This is by far my favorite romance book.

Thank you to Sunnybabepr for the amazing recommendation and the chance to read this wonderful book.

WOW. WOW. WOW. 3 words: Beautiful. Unique. Romantic.
This book had me feeling every emotion possible. I cried, I swooned, i got angry, and I smiled. The dilemma and different situations Zelda the FMC found herself in were so relatable.
I loved soooo many quotes in this book, so here are 3 of my favorites:

♡"Sometimes things happen that can't be explained."

♡"He was my perfect storm, and my heart was in the eye of it."

♡"When death pays a visit, you realize life is too short to waste time."

♡"Love is not just an emotion; it's a choice."

Tough love, where you even think the universe doesn’t want you together.

Breathtaking, emotional rollercoaster.
Read this one sooo fast because one, I couldn’t stand the back and forth with Zelda and Edmund. I hurt for them. I wanted things to just go their way but the universe really didn’t think it was their time.
I loved the random letters back and forth between two strangers. Yes it was cheesy, but it was MY kind of cheesy. Ugh, anytime a book makes me cry, it’s a 5 star for me. Beautiful complicated love story, really enjoyed real life situations, made me really a lot of emotions.
Good freaking book! 💕

TW: parent death

Love love loved this book! I didn't really know what I was in for but I am glad I got on this ride!

Disclaimer: Make sure you have tissues!

Zelda was annoying at times, James is a moron (IYKYK!!!), towards the end he might have kind of redeemed himself but still, he was very hard to "like".

Edmund and Zelda are a whole world away when they begin interacting by pure chance with letters. Some may call this fate while others might just call this a coincidence, but as time goes on and they get to know each other more, fate seems to be against them. Circumstances don't always work out for them though that doesn't stop them from trying. They're both in dark places in life and they become the light at the end of the tunnel to each other. But will that be enough to pull them from the dark completely? Will fate ever work out in their favor?

It was a great read overall, I highly recommend it.

Wow!! Wait. I need to calm myself down. I cried so hard in this book. Masterpiece! Those letters?? My gosh. Who wouldn’t want a love letters/pen pal story in a romance book?

💌Zelda - FMC didn’t have the easiest childhoold. Only with her mom, she tries to give the best for Zelda and keep reminding her how love should feel. I know some of the decisions she made is so hard and I cannot picture myself in her shoes but I admire how strong she is.

💌James- MMC comes from a wealthy family, I did not like him. He wasn’t right and good for Zelda. But he play an important role in the story.

💌Edmund- MMC who lives in other continent. Rock star band. Has a deep story about his family.

📮Zelda and Edmund exchange letters found solace in each other’s words.
But somehow being faraway and dealing with their own lives added tension and miscommunication in their relationship.

📮From the first chapter it got my attention and I couldn’t stop reading! I could read this in one sitting if I wasn’t busy. Truly devastating and sweet story! It tackles about struggles in life and finding the love you think it’s worthy of you. It’s dealing with real life situations.
I love all the characters. The last chapters? Really bawling my eyes out! It’s so tough and painful. Zelda and Edmund LDR relationship added the intensity in their relationship. I love the ending of this story! Overall I loved it!

Thanks @sunnybabepr and Vanessa for giving me a copy of this book! Can’t wait to read more of Vanessa!

If you’re looking for a quick read, I definitely recommend this book! Overall, I enjoyed the book. Definitely lots of back and forth. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the communication with other people while in a relationship but I understand it for the plot. One thing I absolutely adored was the love between Zelda and her mom. That love was so pure and sweet!

When Zelda moves into a new apartment and finds a letter in the mailbox, written to the previous tenant, she decides to read the letter and send a reply.

And so begins an epic adventure of love, heartbreak, second chances. Will fate bring them together? Or tear them apart?

I really enjoyed this book. It fast paced, exciting, emotional, and more. The highs and lows are beautifully written.

unfortunately, i was not the biggest fan of this book. if you decide to read - check trigger warnings.

it started of so good and i was really hooked into the story but it just progressively got worse. i felt like my enjoyment went in waves - started by liking it, dreading it, liking it again and finished it off by kinda forcing myself to.

the plot felt messy to me and i just didn't really understand what the book was supposed to be about. the pacing felt long and short at the same time and i felt like sometimes, the storyline and actions were a bit inconsistent.

zelda frustrated me since the beginning so i was hoping for a character development but, just like the plot, she annoyed me more and more with her undeciability between the two love interests (it seemed as if she always picked the one it was more convenient to love at the moment and just constantly switched between them) as well as always running away from her problems or choosing to do something and then blaming the other person for it.

i honestly wasn't really vibing with the love interests either, especially james. both relationships felt toxic and i think she'd be better off alone.

to not only be negative, i actually really enjoyed the concept of the letters and emails and loved the beginning part of the book!! (lowkey made me wanna get a penpal) there were also some cute moments between edmund and zelda and some sweet quotes that i highlighted. clara was definitely my favourite character so if there was to be a next book and she was the main female character, i might give it a shot.

This was an ARC read from Sunny Babe PR :)

This book was an emotional rollercoaster with the highest dips.

Zelda and her mother were not dealt the best cards in life but they made it work. As a little girl, Zelda would sometimes have to live in a car and watch her mom skip meals to ensure she was fed. Her mother,Eloise, never dated the best guys and Zelda wondered why she would cry at night. Despite life’s challenges, Zelda turned out to be a decent adult with a career and long term boyfriend, James. James and Zelda decide to move in together which I have mixed feelings about.

Zelda gets a great deal on this apartment as the previous renter was found dead inside. Completely creepy but hindsight is 20/20 and everything happens for a reason. Zelda discovers a letter written to Daisy (previous owner), from a man named Edmund who lives in Scotland. Zelda and her bff Clara debate whether or not the letter should be answered. After much debate and guided by faith, she writes back to Edmund and a friendship transpires.

It only gets better or maybe worse in the best possible way from here.

I can tell you Zelda is a free spirit that cannot be dragged down. She lives her life by the seat of her pants or desperately wants to. She is a free bird who does not like mediocrity but she also settles cause she wants stability. When things get tough or real, she runs. I felt she gets this honest with how she grew up with her mother. Her boyfriend James is a bit much, but I wouldn’t expect less from a spoiled brat. Edmund has no clue what he wants out of life and a firecracker himself. He does give off brooding bad boy vibes.

I took so many notes on how I felt during this book cause it was a lot to unpack! See notes here:

1. The pen pal aspect was the best. Love is blind through written communication?? Only for a little while or before things progress.
2. Zelda and Edmund are the most stubborn people alive.
3. My heart was ripped out more than once but then blasted back together.
4. James can get punched.
5. Bad case of right place and always the wrong time.
6. Edmund makes some bad decisions and then in rolls Zelda and says “hold my beer….”

The drama of this story kept me so engaged. It was written well with a few cheesy lines here and there. The steam is steaming in this story as well. Wink wink. A sexy bearded, long haired Scottish man that is described as appearing as a viking? Sign. Me. Up. 🤌🏻

This was the ultimate story of what is meant to be will always find its way.

I enjoyed this book and excited to see what Vanessa writes next! 💜
