God, this book was beautiful. Honestly, it broke my heart, put it back together, made me cry — it was just so emotional. This is the end of the story for Hope, Lucky (whose real name is Hunter), and Jordan, and what an ending it was.
So, in this one, Jordan finds out about the affair between Hope and Hunter — and yeah, they really do love each other. Hope admits everything to Jordan, and she’s honest about the fact that their marriage wasn’t real anymore. But Jordan? He completely snaps. He basically blackmails her, says if she leaves him, he’ll go to the police and say Hunter killed someone and covered it up. So she stays, even though he spirals into drinking, drugs, and eventually becomes violent. He hits her. It’s awful. It’s unforgivable.
Then Hope finds out she’s pregnant — she doesn’t know who the father is, which is heartbreaking in itself. But it turns out it’s Hunter’s baby (Jordan had a vasectomy, which… wow). We also find out that Ryder, the little boy, is Jordan’s son, and he had cheated on Hope first — not that that excuses anything, but it adds layers.
Eventually, Hope leaves Jordan for good. There’s more drama (like finally finding out who Annalise is — that was wild), Jordan tries to take his own life, Hope goes back to Hunter… and then, plot twist: Hunter fakes his death to protect her. That part gutted me. Hope is completely shattered. But then — he comes back. He’s alive. They get their happy ending. They have their baby, and it’s just… so, so emotional.
Jordan, in the end, gets sober, goes to rehab, moves back to the US with Ryder, and even meets someone new. And I was actually glad for that — his arc ended in a surprisingly human way.
I’ll admit, I didn’t read every single page — I skimmed quite a bit. Her books are long, like 800+ pages, and they’re so intense. I read The Boys of Tommen series before this, so I already knew the writing style and drama level. But honestly, Hunter and Hope’s relationship was probably the least toxic one I’ve read from her, which says a lot. And despite skimming, this book still managed to break me. It really was beautiful.
That said, I think I’m done with this author for now. I went back to peek at her first series and it just seemed even more toxic than this one. I’m emotionally drained 😂 But wow, what a story.
