The Am. Philosophical Soc. (APS) Jayne Lectures for 1968. Sir Peter Medawar, eminent biologist of the British National Institute for Medical Research, ''These lectures began in my mind in the form of a why are most scientists completely indifferent to--even contemptuous of--scientific methodology?...the answer could only be 'because what passes for scientific methodology is a misrepresentation of what scientists do or ought to do.' I therefore thought it important to explain what is wrong with the traditional methodology of 'inductive' reasoning...& to show that the alternative scheme of reasoning associated with the names of Whewell & Peirce & Popper can give the scientist a certain limited but useful insight into the way he thinks.'' In this alternative scheme, the energizing force of scientific enquiry comes from an imaginative preconception of what might be true--a preconception which is at once exposed to critical analysis, to find out whether or not the imagined world corresponds with the real one. Scientific enquiry is thus essentially a dialogue between imaginative insight & critical appraisal; between the possible & the actual; between what could be true & what is in fact the case.

الكتاب ثلاثة محتاضرات ل سير بيتر مدور .عنوانيهم (حدود المشكلة.-الاستقراء -الحدس).ف الجزء الاول اتكلم عن المنهج العلمى من الناحية الفلسفية وعن العلماء التطبيقين على طول للعلم وان نادرا جدا ف العصر الحديث انك تلاقى عالم مهتم بفلسفة المنهج العلمى نفسه .او المنهج العلمى البيمشى بيه .على العكس ان فيلسوف العلم هو البيهتم بفكرة المنهج العلمى صح ولا .اما العالم فبالجانب التطبيقى اكتر ..وقال ان مؤلف الكتاب هو يعتبر فلتة ! لانه عالم تطبيقى ومهتم وله اسهامات ف منهج البحث العلمى..تانى فصل اتكلم عن الاستقراء وشوية كلام عنه .وتالت فصل عن الحدس او الاستدلالر الفرضى وهو -على حد ما فهمت- عند التعامل مع مشكلة ابدا بفرض عشان احلها واكمل على. الفرض حتى لة غلط لغاية ما اوصل لتصحيح الفرض ده واحلها...
عجبنى جدا اخر حتة ف الكتاب وتعتبر هى اللخصته

One of the clearest and most succinct statements of scientific reasoning, a book that taught me more about this than any 3 others. Read on the recommendation of Russell Ackoff, certainly a first rank scientist. I was one of his students at Penn.

بيتر مدور ومن خلال ثلاث محاضرات يحاول توضيح وجهة نظر تبناها عن كارل بوبر في منهجية الاستقراء لالتقاط الحقائق والتحقق من صحتها موضحا ثغرات هذه المنهجية ومقدما الاستدلال الفرضي كبديل أكثر دقة في تقديم الحقائق رغم عدم انكاره ان لمنهجية الاستقراء اثرها في العلم
