Blanton's Single Barrel Bourbon isn't just a popular brand of whiskey; its launch in 1984 was historic. As the first single-barrel bourbon, it is bottled one barrel at a time as opposed to first mixing together multiple barrels. It helped define a new "super-premium" category for bourbon, where only the choicest barrels are selected and bottled. One author called the creation of Blanton's "the whiskey equivalent of a Hail Mary pass." Together with other super-premium brands launched in the years following Blanton's debut, they sowed the seeds of a twenty-first century bourbon boom that saved the American whiskey industry from near collapse.
Along with its historic rise, Blanton's is now one of the world's most sought-after whiskeys. It has been the most-searched whiskey on the alcohol price-tracking website Wine-Searcher for multiple years. While it maintains legions of loyal fans who deplete liquor store shelves of the product, the hype that enshrouds the brand is often the subject of debate as to the quality of the bourbon itself.
Warehouse The Story of Blanton's Bourbon, America's Most Influential Whiskey dives deep into the story behind the brand, explores its origins, and documents the unlikely rise and contribution of the first single-barrel bourbon. In addition, it is a catalog of all known Blanton's releases, some exceptionally rare, with insights and anecdotes capturing all things Blanton's, from its birth to the present day.
As a history buff and a bourbon aficionado, I jumped at the opportunity to review Warehouse H (thanks to Emily at Boyle & Dalton!). While a plethora of other books exist about bourbon's rich history, I've yet to come across a history of Blanton's bourbon specifically. This is a BEAUTIFUL book. There are gorgeous photos (think bourbon glamor shots) of Blanton's, as well as some neat historical pictures. Overall, a good-looking addition to your bar shelf.
The substance of the book lives up to its attractive package. The author is a serious Blanton's collector, and has clearly done extensive research. He gives the history of the brand, interweaving colorful stories of its founders (and the regular people who helped along the way). He also gives a fair assessment of the undeniable hype that surrounds the brand (love it or hate it!), but keeps the focus on informing his reader.
An absolute must for any Blanton's fan, as well as a great read for general bourbon enthusiasts. The kind of book you'll be showing off.
If you collect bourbon, read this! If you drink boubon, read this! If you have an interest in Kentucky history, read this! If you ever drove by a liquor store and seen a line of people coming out the door and wondered why, read this! This is not only a history of Blantons bourbon (which it's the most detailed and accurate book on Blantons ever) it's also a fun read for anyone with the slightest interest in the brown liquid. I don't care if you new to the bourbon world or a seasoned collector, this book has something in it that you will learn and enjoy doing it. This was a gift from my wife and after I read the first few pages I couldn't put it down until I was finished. I truly enjoyed this book from the first word to the last. It will be proudly displayed on the top of my bar for years to come.
History and bourbon! For a first time author, this was fantastic! How many versions of Blantons are there. Joe many different names was Buffalo Trace. Who were these men. (Actually that’s the one part this book could have gotten into more) but regardless I loved it. Quick read. Pictures. Count myself as a bourbon ‘snob’ and Blantons was what it is but now a newfound respect. He mentioned it but would love more this style on other big grands. E H Taylor? Elijah Craig? Birthday?
I ran into the author at a book fair. Amongst the tables selling romance, fantasy, and horror, his display was a little different. I've always enjoyed Blanton's, so I talked to him for a bit and then continued on, saying I would think about buying the book. I quickly returned and bought a copy. Now that I have finished reading it, I am very pleased that I did. For a whiskey lover, this is a very good book.
This is a solid history on the brand Blanton’s, good history of the distillery, development, and history of releases. A comprehensive review of all the various releases. The author addresses myths, misconceptions, hype, and hypocrisy surrounding the iconic bourbon.
Enjoyable but the book seems to kind of skip around on different topics. Overall if you like, love or even hate Blantons bourbon you’ll enjoy reading the book. This gives a great insight into the history and making of Blantons.
