Unpopular opinion. This book rubbed me the wrong way from beginning to the very end( no pun intended) .
There wasn't so much of a plot, and the smut was so-and-so. The fact that most of the LOUD action happened while there was a 3-4 year old in the house simply irked me. The kid was basically used as a third wheel character in the story and was only mentioned when the action needed to be shifted , aka when the two rabbits had to leave the house. Because you can't write 700 pages of continuous explicit s3x.
But do you think the rabbits ever stopped while the kid was right there with them? No. It wasn't even subtle from the father and completely kornographic from the nanny. For some reason, the author strongly believed that it's a great idea to dress the character like a korno star and have her parade in front of the child and his non-stop horny dad. Multiple times.
Dear authors,
Please keep children out of the books when you are writing smut. Or at least keep them faaaar away , somewhere forgotten in the plot. It is a very unfortunate and uncomfortable combination . It's not hot. It's messed up.
Then we have the repetitive words and expressions....The word 'fck' is definitely overused. The characters can't speak a 4 words sentence without throwing in the 'f' word, which gives the impression that Wren and Arlo's vocabularies are very poor and that they are intellectually very limited.
Overall, and honestly, this book was painful to read, and reaching all the way to the last page was a struggle.

I absolutely love discovering new authors.
The story was great, the characters…. The SPICE was supppppper steamy!
The MMC was everything we hope for in a dark romance, unhinged, primal, Arlo Hayes is TOP TIER, and he’s made his way up there with my top book boyfriends for sure! I was so on edge reading, I could not contain myself & multiple times I had to dm Jodie 🤣 (sorry if I was annoying 🫶) but honestly, I am so glad I came across this author! Book 2 is due out September and I’m not sure I’ll survive the wait! 🫠🫠 But yeh anyway, girlies….. go meet Arlo.. he’s 😮💨🫠🥵🔥!
Whatever you do today, get this on your TBR….. go meet Arlo.. he’s EVERYTHING! He has crept into my soul, and I don’t think he’ll ever leave.

The way I'm SCREAMING!!!
jodie never fails to deliver absolute bangers 🖤 this book had it ALL !! dark romance, single dad, nanny, dom and sub vibes, primal play, plot twists, secret society empire, praise, degradation, pain to pleasure, THE TENSION, THE CHEMISTRY, THE SPICE 😍
going into this book blind was the best decision i ever made. There were some moments where I wish I got to know more about the elites and some more scenes of arlo in his prime while working, but i love this book. but that plot twist about who ghost could be had my head ROLLING 😭 i honestly wasn’t expecting that at all. but im also glad bc it was exactly what i needed.
the moment arlo met wren when she went over to interview for the nanny position, he already knew she would ruin him. he tries so hard to be rude and disrespectful towards, making sure she never falls for a man like him. but fate had other plans and their chemistry was just OFF THE CHARTS ! they are so perfect together. wren’s fiery attitude only grew that much more after meeting arlo. they balance each other out so perfectly. don’t even get me started on the spice. THE MOUTH ON THIS MAN 🥵 i literally pulsed in both places. PLUS... the man is literally pierced...

DNF at 9%
I didn't think there could ever be a case of over describing something, but in this book, there is.
Despite that though there seemed to be a few inconsistencies, for example her not having to work over the weekends as the little boy goes to his grandparents but then promising to take the little boy on a train that weekend (and this was in the same chapter)
Also, I swear if I took a shot for every time this womans eyes softened, I would be black out drunk. And the fact that she had met the boy twice and then buys him a toy while saying, "I want him to have something to remember me by if I don't see him after today." Is just creepy to me, especially knowing she has fertility issues. It's almost like she's trying to become some sort of surrogate mom.
And the fact that she moves in and on the same day she sees him tattooing himself and has him tattoo her as well as if he hasn't been an asshole to her the whole 2 days they have known each other and they don't know each other beyond their names.
This book was just beyond ridiculous.

All my favorite“qualities” of every morally grey mmc I’ve ever read all wrapped up into Arlo 🥵
His filthy mouth, his pierced tongue & 🍆, his dominance, roughness, the down right dirty way he f*[ks (the spitting 💦), his attitude, his love, his words, look just everything ok, I love everything about him
Reading Arlo was everything & more
Wren, the sweet nanny who gets corrupt deliciously takes Arlo & everything he gives like a queen
The spice between these two characters definitely makes for a one handed read 🥵🫠
When I say I devoured this book, I mean I ate up every word through an entire day
I can’t wait for book 2 to come out because the ending 😱🤯
Jodie King is a phenomenal writer, the detail, the dialogue, all of it is chefs kiss 🤌🏻 I can see her fast becoming one of my favorite authors

I met Arlo Hayes through another one of Jodie King’s books and thought he was an asshole. He may have been running an empire but he didn’t have to be so dang RUDE.
After reading this book I started to see why he was the way he was and understood him well. Although he is still an ass he is also caring and amazing to those he cares about.
Wren’s transformation from a bright light to the Queen of Darkness was EARTH SHATTERING! And I’m not even talking about the knife scene. 😍
I had to sit in my car for a whole hour after finishing this book just replaying everything that happened and truly mad that Jodie left it like that.
I NEED MORE!

I’ve had this on my TBR for a while, as some of you may know my penchant for waiting until a series/duet is finished before starting….shoot me if you must, but I’ve been on the end of waiting over a year for a series to be finalized and when you read a lot you’re in danger of forgetting the first, second, third etc. books. Yes, I know you can re-read 🥺 Anyhooo…I digress. Plus the second book Awakening the Beast is due for release on the 18th September 24.
This first book of the duet leads you into the mansion of our MMC Arlo, where he needs a nanny to take care of his little boy, Cree. Along comes our FMC Wren, needing this job after moving to NYC. Their relationship is tumultuous right from the start, and I literally mean we get into it fairly quickly 🫣🌶️ Their s3x life is, shall we say varied (you will have to read about it yourself).
Wren doesn’t have any understanding of his work or the elite society that runs the city and this turns out to be a downfall in more ways than one, as the story progresses we are thrown into their lives, his world and all the dangers that come with it. Until it impacts them in devastating ways, don’t be fooled you may think you know where some of the storylines are leading you but then it takes you on a different route 🤭 There could possibly be some 🩸🔪⚰️ scenes, lots of 🌶️🔪🏃🏻♀️➡️🍆 🪢 scenes and some 🎢 parts. Does it have a happy ending? This would depend upon your perspective 😈

I loved this book so much! Arlo was dark and depraved, a monster but Wren loved him just the way he was. I couldn’t put down, I’m ready to find out what happens next!!!

Arlo is deliciously unhinged 🫦 and Wren is my new female crush 💋 @jodie_king_author knows how to write dark romance🥀
You can clearly see character development in Wren’s growth and descent into darkness through her experiences as well as Arlo’s ability to open up and love again. Ugh! So good ❤️
In my opinion though you can read this book as a standalone (Obviously I read this after “Into darkness we fall”) please read this one first, it will be worth it.
The twist in this book is unexpected 🤯 and once I was like “I knew it” the author throws another spin just because she can😆
Can’t wait for the 2nd book and for Cree & Stormy’s story in 2025. I am invested and I know Jodie won’t disappoint.

Just finished this book and wow it was a fantastic read. I was hooked from the very start, and it has everything I want from my books.
Arlo Hayes is your typical arrogant alphahole, who is as kinky as they come. His development throughout the story helps explain why he is the way he is and you see him evolve in a way that keep the his dominating side but also showing a slight softness to it which makes him even more swoon worthy.
Wren Edwardz is a strong female lead who knows what she wants and willing to give just as good as she gets. Arlo has met his match or is that soulmate with her.
The chemistry between these two characters is off the charts and is poured into all their spicy scenes, which is so hot could set the page on fire!
I love how Jodie has written this the attention to details is great and she takes you on an emotional ride through the whole book, and then ends it with a cliffhanger!
For anyone who loves a great dark romance with a possessive/jealous mmc, loads of spice, knife play and some masked man action then this is definitely for you. What are you waiting for read it!

I absolutely love discovering new authors, and Jodie will be an auto buy author for me now.
The story was great, the characters…. The SPICE was supppppper steamy! I was so invested in the characters, their chemistry was off the chain.
The MMC was everything we hope for in a dark romance. Unhinged, primal, raw…. Arlo Hayes is TOP TIER, and he’s made his way up there with my top book boyfriends for sure! I was so on edge reading, it was very intense… I could not contain myself & multiple times I had to dm Jodie 🤣 (sorry if I was annoying 🫶) but honestly, I am so glad I came across this author! The ending?! The ending HAD ME…. AHHHHHHH, I need more… I can’t wait. Book 2 is due out September and I’m not sure I’ll survive the wait! 🫠🫠

Well I've finished this absolutely delicious book and can't for the life of me figure out how to review it. From the prologue I was gripped.. I toyed with it all week despite feeling desperate to finish it I didn't want it to end - and how did it end on a bloody cliffhanger!
It's absolutely packed and I mean packed with spice, plot, action, twists and turns and I totally loved every second of it. Arlos character development is both captivating and powerful - yes he's a complete alphahole but I totally understand why.
Wren is so strong and fierce and knows her mind and what she wants - there's no fluff with either of them.
Jodie is a phenomenal writer, the character developments, the dialogue, the attention to details however minut is perfect!
This book has flown to the top of my favourites and I don't see it being knocked off.
I cannot recommend this book enough unless 100/10 spice isn't ur thing in which case this totally isn't for u 🤣

I have no idea where to even begin with this book. I NEVER thought I'd enjoy dark romance, but Jodie executed this in the best way possible. Arlo is definitely the most delicious book boyfriend ever. We see him evolve in the book into a beautiful broken man. Wren is a ride-or-die type of chick. Her love for Cree is beautiful. She is this bright ball of light that starts to dim, but I know she will regain that power in the next book! She is too much of fuck butt woman to let anyone keep her down.
It takes a talented person to be able
to write such sensitive topics and turn it into a sick read. I can honestly say that no one has created writing quite like this book and it turned out amazing. I will continue to read books by Jodie. 10 out of 10🌟on all levels! 🖤🖤

Jodie King as your first book this was absolutely amazing. I followed Jodie from Chapters and let me say this book did not disappoint.
Are there great sex scenes absolutely. Is it a dark romance yep. Does the bokn have heart absolutely!
What I love is that both main characters are well developed and both with flaws that complement each other.
The story is one that made me root for the main characters and almost never makes you think why did they do that? In general all actions make sense...thank you Jodie.
By the end I'm in tears feeling exactly what I believe the characters are feeling and the end was perfect. I can't wait until part 2.

Flipping loved this book. She’s a big book but I devoured it it was so hard to put down. I adore Arlo and Wren. The story line was full of action and heartbreak it had me in the edge of my seat trying to guess how it was going to end and the ending wtf an epic cliff hanger. Full of spice not a fluffy romance by any means very dark very erotic, lots of unalivings the works. Not for the faint hearted. Jodie Kings writing is epic she really knows how to keep you hooked. Absolutely flows and full of action twists and gob smacking moments. Thank goodness book two is out because that ending made me wanna throw the book. Jaw on the floor.

I really wanted to love this book as I love the daddy & the nanny trope but I just couldn’t. It felt like something was just missing for me throughout this whole book.
It was so much longer than it needed to be & the plot wasn’t it for me.
The smutty bits was *chefs kiss* but it was also very repetitive by the end.
However I didn’t see that ending coming so I will be reading the second book.
If you enjoy this book then I love that for you.

What a rollercoaster!
I'm having a problem with formulating words after reading the emotional rollercoaster I just went through. Jodi definitely pulls out all the stops and leaves you breathless with a sucker punch to the gut. I can't wait to read more from this author and see what crazy-sauce unhingedness happens next.

Everything is overly described like EVERYTHING. What the characters are wearing, every single movement they make and what every inch of their surroundings look like at all times. It got boring quickly and took me out of the story like just get to the point.

At first Arlo doesn't take to Wren, she's the saint to his Sinner, the light to his darkness, he can see she's really good around his son.
He wanted to destroy her goodness with his darkness, he wanted to use and abuse her for his own pleasure. Little did he know Wren could handle the beast, without meaning to she was changing the beast within him.
His sister Sara is interviewing for a nanny for Arlos son Cree, soon as Sara meets Wren, she knows she is the one to look after her nephew.
Wren - Wanted to get away, she accepted a nanny interview, she met Cree, a beautiful little boy who she loved instantly.
When she met Arlo, she didn't know what she was letting herself in for. He wasn't the most welcoming to her, every time he pushed her she took 10 paces instead of backwards.
She started to tame the beast within him, she was told there is no lovey dovey fairytales with him.

Wrens character development is my all time fave, she turns into an amazing badass for her king of darkness.
This is a very deliciously dark twisting book, one which you'll fall in love with! One where you'll laugh, you'll gasp and you'll cry!

I absolutely loved this book. It has drama, passion, tension, suspense, plot twists, angst, and amazing love story.
Daddy Arlo is incredible, not only is he actually an amazing father, but he is a MAN! And intense man but OMG, I could read about him all day everyday!!
Please check the triggers as your mental health matters. But to anyone who does ready, you will not regret this one bit, and you will be as obsessed as I am!! Can’t wait to read book 2 now!!

Wow, I loved this book from start to finish. I was gripped and intrigued. Arlo you sexy beast, however for me Wren had me captivated, her internal struggles with lust, love, right and wrong left me wanting to read on, although fearful of the end approaching!!! The differing intricate family dynamics just add to the storyline. Now I have to suffer the wait of book 2.

So, yum! The first half of this one is a completely unrealistic, dark smut-fest; I totally recommend if that's what you're in the mood for.
However, dnf @62% because when the plot kicks in, the editing goes out the window, and combined with the completely OTT mafia events, my eye started twitching.😂

First off, wow! This book is insanely hot! The story just kept getting better! And I even cried when Wren couldn't save Arlo! I couldn't believe it! But the ending..... omg!! Bring on book 2!!
