'Mist in the bottle' is a story of Rishi and Sejal, their
life, friendship, love, togetherness until fate sets upon them, what follows is a journey of self-discovery where the author has coupled the extraordinary with mysticism, creating a story that's entwined within us beyond the pages.
The book brings along with it a sense of longing and a few pages into it that longing takes a scenic shape, rejuvenating the reader's desire. A sense of belonging takes over, and one shall feel united with the characters, floating with them in their story.
The language used by the author is simple and it connects. Each chapter is preceded by a sketch which instills a heartfelt imagination, it feels like a silent invitation to enjoy what shall follow.

This book revolves around a teenager Rishi who lives with his dad in the mountains. He lost his mother at a young age so the bond he shared with his father was pretty sentimental and close. I really liked how they both shared such a beautiful bond.
Having to go from one place to another because of his father's work Rishi never made any deep friendships until he met Sejal. A nomal girl. Rishi and Sejal soon developed a friendship where Rishi would come to Sejal's place for meals at times and they would roam around in nature. This friendship then developed into something more. Whatever you may call it- love or infatuation.
However fate separated the two and that's when the story unfolds with all it's fantasy elements and strangeness: a clairvoyant with mystical visions, an owl that transcends realities and a grassland filled with memories from past lives. It almost felt like magical realism to me because while it has elements from real life it also explores elements of the fantasy world.
I think the writer was very creative in his imagination to build a world like that. The use of imagery and everything adds beauty to it all.
While I did use skimming while reading at times because I preferred the first half more than the second half. The first half felt very homely and nostalgic with the descriptions of the mountains and everything but that can be just a preference thing.

It is often seen how two people are entwined together only for the fate to separate them from each other and then begins a tale of rejuvenating yourself. I have read quite a few tales on the similar theme and this one is a welcome addition to that long list.
The story revolves around Rishi and Sejal , how they meet , become friends and eventually into lovers until the destiny takes them to different routes. From there Rishi trudges on the path of self discovery after being lonely again longing for his soulmate to return. He starts reimagining his lovely past , those cherishable moments and tries to recreate them . How in the anticipation of his love he rediscovers himself forms the major crux of the remaining tale.
Author has done a commendable job in seamlessly gelling the literary elements with the theme of nature. The analogy he used and the prose he employed might seem verbose to the amateur readers but for the seasoned ones they feel like poetry to the ears. The sketches before almost every chapter further adds to the overall poetic vibes of the tale.

The story is short, but the writing felt very lengthy. Most of the story hinted me the story is about Rishi, but then the title suggested it's about visiting memories and the mist catchers. The first half had nothing to do with the title. The details bored me, and I skipped most of the pages.
All the plot about Ashok Uncle and the family felt very unrelated. And that plot dropped when Rishi escaped. Not a single mention of those characters again. The ending doesn't feel completed.
I am sad that I didn't enjoy reading this book. Not once did the plot have me hooked.

I loved the premise of other world and the mist that takes you there, the book like a simply eases you into mystical realism. Brilliantly written, beautiful descriptions entwined with emotions of loss, loneliness, anger and love!
Among the nuances, kudos to the etymology and derivations of the names of characters, a certain "Indianness" that originates from use of Thukpa, pakoras in rain, Navratna cool oil and a lot of other childhood memories.
The book was a definite page turner, left me asking questions and caught up in a mist of my own!

Mist in a bottle by Jeet Bhattachariya is a story of Rishi, a teenage boy who goes through a series of up's and downs in his life. He experiences every human emotion one can imagine, from the loss of loved to the grief of losing a parent. The story is filled with fantasy and magical elements, offering the reader a very good time. Even though the book is good, I did felt like it was a bit dragged out and complexed. The author has good imagination and creativity with an amazing storytelling skills.
