When Mika McKellen woke up in a stormwater drain while backpacking around Canada, she knew that her mother was right. If you made bad choices, you would end up dead in a ditch. But when she stumbled into Dark River, even her mother could never have dreamed up the residents of this small town in the middle of nowhere, Alberta.
Oh, it had all the usual suspects. Quirky diner owners, untrustworthy outcasts and a Sheriff so hot he’d make any red-blooded woman with a heartbeat beg to be in cuffs in the back of his patrol vehicle. No, the really unusual thing about Dark River was that it was entirely populated by the Undead. Vampires to be specific. And so was Mika.
As Mika adjusts to the life of a Vampire, a dark presence stalks her from the shadows. One of the residents of Dark River was her maker and her murderer.
And they were determined to ensure that Mika never rested in peace.
This is a reverse harem romance with a high heat factor.

When I was nine, my grandmother and her friends used to read and swap Harlequin Mills and Boons novels. When I was busted reading one, they started sneaking me boxes full of strong heroines and rugged men. Thus started a long love affair with the romance genre. Then I discovered urban fantasy, and fell in love with broody Alphas and sexy paranormals, and combining them together was a no brainer. Then I discovered Reverse Harem.... Oh my. Why choose, am I right?
This was the entire collection of the Dark River series and if you have Kindle Unlimited-it’s available there for free.
I feel like it’s too much to cover in a review with so many pages. Let me just share the overall vibe.
Funny. Spicy. With enough plot and story to keep it out of the erotica genre.
I laughed so many times while reading this. I did get to the point where I started skimming sex scenes but she ends up w 8 guys so 🙄🤷🏻♀️
Polyamorous (large) harem (MM no FF) It’s a lot of dong. Almost a frat house 🥴🤣
KU
HEA
No preg as she cannot have children since she is a vampire. They do end up accidentally adopting kids.
Heavy spice but again not so much it’s erotica.
I do feel like there isn’t a good balance bt the sex with all her mates but if you read RH books with larger harems, it’s just the way it goes. It’s not bad though. And overall balanced much better than some RH books I have read!
I do feel like her last two men were rushed and I didn’t quite feel the love connection bt them. But again, at this point she has more dong than holes and I was like, MORE DICKS?? And the author was like, YEAH MORE DICKS. Again, it somehow worked. Even a tad rushed. 🤷🏻♀️🤣
Fun plot and while sad or serious at times there is always levity with laughter or snark.
Finished series. Interconnected characters from her other series
I honestly don’t recall why I never finished this series originally. Maybe it wasn’t completed when I first read 1/2? Either way, I really enjoyed this series.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
You see this is one of my most reread series and I had hoped the typos would be corrected in this omnibus version and I would get to enjoy the series to the fullest but ooh no, we still had McKellen, McKellan and I believe even a MacKenzie at one point. Sad, sad but I still enjoyed revisiting these characters. I don’t know why the most unhinged of them were the most endearing but X and Lucius were a hoot. However, I believe I loved them because this was told from Raine’s POV only and we only saw those characters through her eyes.
Our 9 MMCs: Tex Flanaghan - python shifter Judge (John Hudson) -vampire Alpha Brody (can’t remember his surname) - shapeshifter Sheriff Walker Walton - vampire Nico and Lucius Flett - twins and vampires X (Harry) - vampire Vali - incubus Orthos - Hellhound And the FMC: Raine Baxter (formerly Mika McKellen) - vampcubi
I enjoyed reading about you guys and this was probably the last time coz none of the plot twists surprise me anymore meaning I’ve read this series A LOT. The only untied string that I would have loved to be tied was the issue of Tex and Brody’s mortality. Whenever it hit Raine, man, I would really feel for her, may be the author will get a solution and we’ll get a novella out of it 🤞🏾 Bye Red and your beautiful harem!!
I kinda didn't finish this? I mean, once it shifted to new characters, I was ready to be done with it. I'd love to rate it higher; there were definitely some great spicy scenes, humor and an interesting plot. But 7 men in an RH felt a bit excessive, though I can understand it suits the plot (IYKYK). It just felt like some relationships couldn't develop well enough, or as well as I would have liked, and because of that, it made it start to drag on and feel redundant after a while.
I REALLY enjoyed her Daybreakers book, so I thought I'd give this a try.
This is a reread for me but it was like reading it for the first time all over again.
I love Raine and all of her guys. So many personalities and yet they all fit so perfectly together. It’s a true found family where even if they aren’t “together” they still lover each other so much.
Raine and her men have to fight hard for their happy ending but it’s such a beautiful ride. With some delicious spice too.
Now that I've read the last paragraph to this amazing story of love, family, selflessness, and courage-- I don't know what to do with this feeling of melancholia. It's a book hangover of the highest order. It's an outstanding series and I couldn't be happier to have stumbled upon it. I'm on a supernatural high right now!
20 words to say I loved this book I don’t need twenty words Would like more from this world there was stories in the stories I’ve read all the dark river stuff before but now I’m going to read the Edan stuff just to see if we get any of the characters like X and Lucius ❤️ 📚
I fell in love with these characters right from the start, and it only got better the more I read. I can’t to delve into the next world Grace has created for us!
All kinds of supes, from vampires, witches, to shapeshifters and more. Lovings are consensual, no hate-to-lovers relationships, great story that definitely keeps the interest, funny lines, altogether a great read!
I absolutely love this series it’s one of my all time favorites. Raine is one Kluttz and dose everything you tell her not to do just to see if they were lying 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣.
