NOVEMBER ’24 UPDATE

I have reread this (epic, amazing, fantastic, legendary) book to get hyped for the next book and eighth instalment of the series possibly coming out in January 2025...

8BW fans.... It's about to get CRAZY!

JANUARY ’24 ORIGINAL REVIEW

After many years of waiting, Shadow Over Aetheria, the seventh book in the 8-Bit Warrior series has finally arrived. And it's epically EPIC.

The story begins with Runt and his crew saying their goodbyes and leaving Villagetown. Their destination? Lorica Academy, the greatest school in Aetheria.

Runt soon finds out the training is very difficult and not for noobs. Even the training golems are hard to defeat enemies. And to top it off they have to constantly eat these smelly vegetables that supposedly boost their magic powers.

But there is more than the prestigious academy in the big city. Many secrets hide in the shadows that are slowly darkening Aetheria…

Cube Kid may not be pregnant but he didn't fail to deliver all right, all right, I won't use that one, but still. This book was very awesome, trust me; I stayed up quite late reading it.

That being said I wouldn't say it was worth the wait because we really waited a long time just for this. But it's far better than being left questioning if there ever will be a new book.

I personally like the art a lot, it had more life to it, and seemed very unique. I also liked how CK mentioned a lot of stuff from the older books and didn't completely sweep it all under the rug.

Anyway, it's a great book. So excited that we finally got it!!!

As expected, after reading this series multiple times and finally getting the 7th Book in the series... (I know, CK was experiencing writer's block, but hey he came through! Better late then never yknow)
It was super awesome!
Runt and his friends head over to Lorica Academy, where they not only learn more about themselves, but also a very deep and not-so exciting secret about Herobrine's plan..

I honestly really liked this book and am super excited for the next upcoming books, the art is a lot different and my only complaints is that I don't really like the fact that Runt has two eyebrows but it's not all that bad.
There also seems to have been several issues when they translated some of the French to English..
(In case you're confused, Cogboggle's friend's name is Rock, however it sometimes gets misinterpreted as Pebble, who is one of the other main characters who doesn't actually appear in this book. Oh, and "Frez" is Raspberry. Yup, he actually showed up again! (even though he appeared as Frez 🙃))

Amazing job Cube Kid!! I always feel inspired to fire up Minecraft after reading one of these books.

(oh yeah, and thank you Ethan for sharing the book with me and maybe even staying up super late to finish it quickly, you're the G!)

Runt seems like he knows everything that he could possibly need in order to vanquish illagers, villagers, and pillagers, but it's not enough! Along with Emerald, Ophelia, Stump, and Max he's heading off to the magical academy, where students receive training before they head off to save the kingdom, after meeting with the king and being assigned a job. The trip to the school is a long one, but luckily the group's bedrolls have a warming spell on them for when they are camping under the stars. There's a nice map of the kingdom, and the group finally arrives at Dawnsbloom, which is a good thing, because they run out of food. Eventually, they get to Dawnsbloom, which is very different from their village. At the school, Runt meets with an advisor who tells him he only has an MP of 3, but has some good skills. She also gives him some coins for the quest that he went on, which is a huge improvement from when he was a noob and had a single carrot. The dorm has a questboard, and Runt is super excited to be able to go on fairly safe quests in order to gain training, but he can't go quite yet. In true boarding school fashion, there is even a human who is very mean to him, Bayard. Runt often struggles to stay awake in class or answer questions, and gets very tired of always being with Emerald, especially when Stump and Breeze are away. When things start to go wrong in the kingdom, Runt learns about the evil wizard Herobrine, or the Eyeless One, who is causing destruction. He and Emerald learn that Otherworlders can be effective against him, and go in search of Mike and Steve, who are from Earth. They find Mike, but Steve has gone missing from the ruins under the city, most likely teleported far past the void by demons. Not only that, but Herobrine has a very evil plan involving monsters and experience points. Runt isn't able to solve that problem, but meets Elodi, the daughter of the King, and continues on with his education. It looks like his time at Greater Aetheria Academy isn't over yet, and I hope that we will see more adventures.
Strengths: My readers who want Minecraft books usually want stories that read like playing the game. Given how much food is discussed, and how many times Runt and his friends talk about different skill levels or items they have to acquire, I'm going to guess that this will fill the bill. It is fun that Runt gets out of the village and learns information about the world around him. The school is very ornate, and has all of the elements that magical academies usually have, so fans of that type of story will appreciate the Greater Aetheria Academy. The art seems a bit different from the other books, and this is another full color, heavily illustrated novel with Geronimo Stilton type font that is larger when words and phrases are emphasized.
Weaknesses: Runt still hasn't learned to think things through, so is goaded into doing silly things by Bayard the Bully. As much as he would like to be able to pick from the Questboard and increase him MP level, he doesn't seem to concentrate very well and use more discretion in his actions. I guess this makes him the quintessential middle schooler!
What I really think: I was sorry to hear that Cube Kid had experienced writer's block, but am glad to see him back. While these books are not my personal favorite (since I've never played Minecraft), my students enjoy them, and I'd rather have them reading the books than playing video games. They'll be glad to hear about this new volume. I always buy these in prebind, because they get a lot of use.

Deník malého Minecrafťáka 7 - česká edícia niekto to prosím pridajte, ...

Bavia ma tieto synovcove Mincraftácke knižky - také kockované fantasy príbehy. Prečitané zachvílu a aspoň trošku rozumiem hrám čo hraje synovec. :)

i am so looking forward to reviewing this!
alrighty. so this book was great! i really like the new days of the week, although prior to book 7, aethrian wiki stated that the week went almsday JOURNSDAY KILNSDAY, not craftsday and questsday. i shant point out the elephant in the room-that is the release date-but ill comment that i think the book was a tad short for the release. quite a few illustration errors, for one, at the start of the book, it mentions pancakes, but in the next picture (and the rest of the book), its all about waffles. also in the scene where runt and emerald run from the angry shopkeeper, runts missin a nose! also, a strange bar appears overlapping runts redstone fishing pole whilst fising with breeze.
i really loved the involvment of emerald. shes quite funny! but dang, the picture in the dungeon is very wel done with emerald casting ice bolt…
the cover art is great! id have to say though, for the other pictures, i liked the old style better. this new one is to messyish. dang this is a huge review.
ive been waiting for four years tho, and i never lost hope in you ck!
im waiting for book eight now!

Until then, L33T5P34K out!

p.s. asof this day, ive read it two times, going on three

My rambling streak

suprising how I still enjoy reading a series that I read when I was ten, no matter what this series was part of my child hood so im completely biased, I really like the new art style of the book but reading this on kindle is really annoying since I cannot increase word size (the pages are a picture with lots of words so kindle doesn’t detect the words as something it can change)

the book stayed pretty accurate to the previous books with a few inconsistencies like how pebble was with cog boy and how this was their first time using librams (breeze gave runt one for the dual weilding or at least I believe they are the same, a book that if you read gives information) and it is kind of sad to see how cube kid just dropped cog’s group entirely since although they were never great people they still played a role in the story.

over all I think it is still a really great series and I will continue following it if not because its good its because of nostalgia, but seriously 6 years for 200 pages… can’t say it was worth it but the world building and art kind of explained it.

*Spoilers*

OMG IT FINALLY CAME OUT. Been waiting for SO LONG, even though I was like 6 or 7 when the last one came out, this book was both amazing and a little bit of a letdown. Not because of the content, but because I was so excited that I already blazed through it. And read it again. And maybe a third time, but no promises. Mostly I just hope that another one comes out, but I do love the whole idea of the school. Wonder what the team will do after they figure out what Herobrine has in store for them? I don't know, but I hope its cool.

Also: Potential plot hole, but I might be totally wrong. (Tell me if I am)
In the 8-bit kitten series, Eebs gets tons of experience points from monsters, and we leave out learning that he has FOURTEEN levels. So, did Herobrine just not implement his new strategy yet, or is it a plot hole, or am I just missing something? And speaking of 8-bit kitten, will there be any more of those books? Because if not, I'm going to be genuinely mad.

This series got my son into wanting to read every day. He loves playing Minecraft and the similarities between the actual game and the books keep him hooked. He was very excited to hear that a new book was finally coming out. The book starts where the previous book left off but also gives summaries of the previous six books in case you forgot what happened in them. The story itself was entertaining and I must say this book has definitely improved on the illustrations compared to the earlier books. It was a bit different but we both liked the art more in this book compared to previous books. Overall we thought this was a good addition to the series.

I don't think this book was the best. I found myself trying to get it over with more than actually reading with interest. I think this was because this book specifically doesn't have a main plot or problem. It's mostly just things happening to the character. Although it is entertaining on some extent to see how the main character just lives his life, it still is kind of boring to see him just do things. The book could be better with more suspense or conflict, but it does contribute a lot to the series in general. I think this book set up a really good foundation for the sequel.

I really liked the first 6 books when I was younger so when I heard that the author released a new book (the last book was released in 2019) I decided to try it out, but I think I outgrow the series. The age group they're written for is 7-12 years old. It was still good, just not as exciting or funny as I remember the last books being.

when will they kiss?

Breeze is so cute and runt is so dorky but I love this book. I just want more kissing, even if it’s emerald who is kissing boys. I’m excited about the guild and maybe runt will kiss the king. Thanks cube kid for your best book in a while!

Still mad about Breeze being whitewashed.

But otherwise still very cute! Does kinda feel like the first book again but I wish things were the same competitive way it used to feel. Still enjoyed it!

Eh, not for me. I mean, I was nowhere in the authors mind when this was made, so no wonder, but the humor is too broad for me and the Minecraft stuff mostly unknown. And starting with number 7 probably didn’t help.
