Set in the mid 90's in South Africa the author gives good descriptions of that turbulent time and the equally turbulent life of Lissa. Lissa is an alchoholic in her twenties who, after a sordid one night stand goes into rehab with her sisters support. The story is from Lissa's point of view both as a ghost in the present and her recollections of the past, leading up to her death. This is a poignant, well written story. At times I wanted to shout to Lissa, "no, watch out, don't do that". Altoghter a very enjoyable, exciting book.
This book is completely different to my usual type of novel. I struggled to get into it to start with but then found myself gripped from about quarter of the way in! I found myself unable to put it down. It seemed to end quite abruptly & I would have liked a bit more finality but an enjoyable read & I would read more by this author.
Not my usual kind of read, but from the blurb it sounded interesting and thought I would give it a go. It started slow and steady, some parts made for a good read, and other parts not so much. Overall an ok read, but found it didn’t quite fully hold my interest.
Supernatural element started quite late in the book. No real twists as it was quite obvious who the villain of the story was from quite early on. Didn’t really grip me if I’m honest and found myself scanning some of the text to get through the book quicker.
