The daughter of oyster farmers, Laurinda embraced her tomboy spirit, exploring the mangroves of her creekside property with her three big brothers and a revolving cast of noteworthy characters who continue to be part of the legend of the oyster farm.
Her unwavering faith in the magic of happily-ever-afters was ignited during an unforgettable punt ride along the Hawkesbury River. Here, her mother gifted her Gone with the Wind, a cherished find from a second-hand bookstore.
At eighteen, Laurinda embarked on her own love story, marrying her high-school sweetheart. Together, they built their home in Newcastle, raising their three children.
Laurinda's daytime role as a school chaplain is complemented by her passion for writing, seizing every opportunity to breathe life into the characters she creates. Her literary journey has resulted in three novels: Black Ink Heart, The Law of Entanglement, and Hating Makenzie Porter.
I loved reading this book! The characters are well developed and the storyline is fun and addictive, as well as being really well written. I couldn’t put it down for almost two days after I picked it up. Would recommend😁
From the first paragraph Laurinda Lawrence grabs you and hold you in the palms of her storytelling hands and you don’t want to be released.
I read "Hating Makenzie Porter" in almost one sitting. I started it about 9pm and read until 1am, then slept until 6 am and finished it by lunchtime. The story is so original, funny, gut-wrenchingly moving, and just so believable. Even though it’s totally unbelievable. But to my way of thinking, if a writer can have me believing the unbelievable, then they are a truly great writer, and this one does all that and more. The story effected me in a visceral way that left me with a book hangover, I just didn’t want it to end, and when it did, I was so happy for the characters, and so sad for me.
I was excited to read this book as I love Laurinda's earlier books (especially Black Ink Heart). It did not disappoint! It was really nice to read something completely different to anything I've read before. The characters pulled me in and I definitely became invested. I could not put the book down (no easy feat with small children). If you are looking for a story to pull you in and keep you captivated then look no further, this is the book for you.
