Callum Francis

I wish I knew about relationships the way I do music...

Maybe then I'd know how to convince him.
I'm not a perfect person, and I've never claimed to be.
But I'll never forgive myself for how I treated Echo.
For the first time in years he's almost mine again, and it's my fault it isn't more than that.
I'm trying to prove to him that I'm not the same man I was before.
Getting Echo to listen is difficult, and I don't blame him for being wary.
But I'm determined to try, I'll do anything to win his trust.

Echo Vasilyev

I won't let Callum Francis hurt me again, no matter how many pretty words he says.
Three years ago I made a vow.
I would never let someone into my heart again.
Not after the biggest betrayal.
I'm torn between love and hate...

I can't stay away.
Even though my heart beats no, in fear of falling apart again.

traitor is a spicy, second chance mm rockstar romance novella with a stubborn guitar player, a southern savant, silly found family, a world tour, themes of self acceptance, and a hard won happy ending. it's book two of the fool's errand mini series, but can be read as a stand-alone.

Shadiya Lyons (they/them) is a queer romance author and actor hailing from Aurora, Colorado and for that very reason, they should be a lot better at writing bios.

Shadiya writes love stories that they would want to read if they weren't written by them. Diversity and inclusion are a priority because they could be the poster child for the word "minority."

It was kinda cute. Shadiya is becoming a comfort author for me ☺️

Callum and Echo have a toxic relationship. They love each other, but there are a lot of things they need to figure out.

I really want to know more about Charlie (he was so funny) and Scout! 🙌

Callum and Echo are the must frustrating yet lovable characters. This is their second chance romance book and like most miscommunication breakups, their book could have likely been over in 5 pages if they just ✨communicated✨, but I digress. 😂

I really loved how hard they fought for each other without realizing they were fighting for each other. They both reminded me of when a toddler stomps their feet but does what you asked anyway. It was adorable. 🥹🥹

The spice was spicy, as always. Shaniya knows how to write spice for sure.

This is a cozy yet angsty rockstar-esq romance (esq because the book centers on them more than their jobs). They were FWB when they were younger until miscommunication happened and this book picks up as they navigate reconciliation.

Callum is just…🤌🏻 the best groveler. Does he need to? Ehh. But boy does he and it made me so giddy.

This is a short yet compelling story about two men that are madly in love with each other but are just…idk. Frustrating? 😂 You’ll see.

Anywho,
Read it.
Okay, bye.

I received a complimentary copy of this book but this is my honest and voluntary opinion!🖤

Repost of a review erased from another platform earlier this year:

Second chance rock-stars MM romance

This angsty rock star romance has potential. If you like second-chance romance that includes a few years separation, give it a chance. There are flaws but also tension-filled conflict, and while it could have used a developmental edit, there’s a lot to enjoy.

Echo’s romantic world fell apart when his secret boyfriend began dating a female popstar without so much as a by your leave. The devastation sent him on a spiral of not trusting anyone and meaningless hookups. Though Callum later came crawling back, the past is a bleak mark on their lives, and while they’ve interacted as part of a successful rock band and started hooking up again, the pain and yearning and anger haven’t been resolved and they’re stuck in a rut.

Callum knows he messed up bad. But Echo wouldn’t listen to the truth then, and isn’t ready to hear it now. All Callum can do is be there for whatever Echo’s willing to give him, and show Echo how much he means to Callum. Romancing his bandmate isn’t easy, not with Echo still seeking comfort anywhere he chooses—so far as Callum knows—but he truly loves Echo and won’t give up.

There’s a lot of strong pining and angst that drove the story; I enjoyed that. There are a ton of easily fixed errors—too many to put it down to not being proofread yet? Though I read an advance copy, so some may be corrected—as well as several episodic scenes, inconsistent characterization, and a couple out of character moments that bumped me out of the story. The band element felt glossed over and not authentic, more there to say they’re in a band. And the past is confusing—it’s unclear why Callum didn’t simply let Echo know what he was doing in the first place, and that’s never cleared up. The conflict is largely based on miscommunication. Still, I enjoyed the tension that created, and the push-pull between the characters and found a lot to like. There are some hot moments too.

The reunion is sweet and satisfying in the end, with several charming moments that had me smiling. Characters continue from a previous book in the connected series, but I was never confused; this book can stand alone.

HEA, second chance, rock stars/celebrity. No actual cheating, although the line was crossed for me on emotional cheating, even though ultimately going there with another man didn’t quite happen—the character did have intent in a way that made me squirmy. But, still, since it didn’t quite happen, I got through it. Recommended.

My thanks to Booksprout and Indie Author Creative for the complimentary copy. This is my free and impartial opinion.

🎸Bandmates
✨Second Chance
🎸Coming Out

Traitor is book 2 in the Fool's Errand series. And this time we get Echo and Callum's story.
We already met them in book 1, and we got the feeling that there was something going on between them....

They met in high school, and have been very close ever since, and are now bandmates in the group Fool’s Errand.
Echo is openly bi, and Callum is not out. An event a few years back broke their relationship (that wasn’t really defined back then), and Echo has been closed off and sworn off any relationships since then.
Callum wants to gain back Echo’s trust and would do anything to have him back in his life (as more than a bandmate) but they have a lot to figure out.

This story was nice, short and sweet. A lot of miscommunication (a bit much for my taste), and a lot of friends involved (I want Scout’s story, and Charlie’s too) and an HEA guaranteed.

Echo's heart breaking in the beginning and then his harden heart throughout was well conveyed.

I really felt for Callum tho, it was a miscommunication and a situation that at the time he didn't know how to handle. He should of explained it to Echo. I do appreciate him trying throughout to show Echo that he's the one.

I loved Fools so I was really looking forward to this novella. I didn’t love this one as much.

I didn’t really buy that Echo hated Callum. I think the author was going for that vibe, but it did not read that way to me. Echo may have said he hated Callum, but to me it was quite obvious that he wanted to hate hum, but he was just hurt. The daddy/boy dynamics between the MCs really did not land for me. I read a lot of books with daddy/boy relationships, I did not find this fit with this couple. It felt really forced and not organic.

There is a lot of miscommunication in this story, so if that isn’t your jam, I’d skip this one. I really felt for Callum, he did not handle the situation in the best way by not communicating with Echo. He tried to explain it to Echo, but he wouldn’t let him. Callum kept trying to prove himself to Echo and earn his trust back.

I enjoyed Callum’s journey with self-discovery. Callum has experienced internalized homophobia and through his journey and the story he learns to accept who he is and comes out as gay to his family. The coming out was anticlimactic, but in the best way!

Second chance book with two people wasting years before finding out they are meant for each other. However, Callum hangs in there and gets his happily ever after. Great book!.
