I don't know what to say but as soon as winter was made into a killer I was so angry. Her strength was destroyed. This turn in story has made me not want to go forward with story line. How weak you made her after having her so strong. 1. She should have known he wasn't letting anyone live. 2. Her ability for insight visions was no where to be seen. I don't know what happened because I went to the end to review. Because regardless Winters career is over in FBI. If she wasn't killed her being PI as was in previous book isn't any better.
Very disappointed that Winter was STILL wearing rose colored glasses regarding her serial killer brother. This time it just seemed too much of an ask of a reader, to think Winter would participate in the killings and some how would be allowed to continue to work in her field. No matter how her actions will be explained. Everyone in the book seemed to not follow any procedures. At one point I was so exasperated with Autumn and Winter for being bleeding hearts regarding Justin Black that I wanted both of them to take a few rounds for being so stupid! On the one hand they are portrayed as brilliant and at the too of their games then they totally ignore all of their training and special talents and instincts regarding the worst serial killer of all time. Very disjointed reading. How many people have to be killed before Autumn gets off the white horse and stop trying to find something redeemable in the killer? He's killed 20 people but she thinks he has pretty blue eyes. Really Autumn and Winter? Argh!
Story moved too slow, no surprises, the story was boring and I found myself skipping over parts just to get to the end. I have read all of the Winter Black and Autumn series and this one by far was not even close to the others. VERY DISAPPOINTING.
I cannot get enough of Autumn and Winter. Though this read a tad more like it should have been Winter's story. Once you start reading you just cannot stop.
I had a very hard time getting this book to download. I finally got it and wow what a story. I was shocked by Winters actions in the camper. As always it was hard to put down. I had to know what happened next. Looking forward to the next in the series. Thank you Mary Stone for your wonderful stories.
Wow, this book started fast and continued until the very end. Now I must wait for the next book to come out. Each new book we find out more about the characters and feel like I know them. Well written!
Preacher took many things from Winter Black. As a teen she list her parents to the killer, her baby brother was kidnapped and Winter's safe life destroyed. And for what? Had Winter given up her family and her safety for a teenage party and a crush. Now, years later, Winter is a successful FBI agent, Preacher is dead and Little Justin Black has been found.
The new Justin in a sociopathic serial killer, committed to a state hospital as criminally insane. He is being evaluated by Winter's best friend Dr Autumn Trent to determine his mental state and possibilities of rehabilitation. The smart bet is that Justin will never recover from the horrors and indoctrination by Preacher. Even Winter's boyfriend and fellow agent would rather see him dead then anywhere near Winter.Agent Winter Black is wearing blinders her her brother is concerned, she still sees the little boy, kidnapped as she lay injured on the floor, her parents murdered while Justin slept and Winter partied.
Winter believes in redemption, second chances, and forgiveness in the case if Justin. Winter would sacrifice her friendships, her job and her love, to reclaim her little brother. Caught in Justin's web of manipulation, she continues to visit him and believe in his recovery. But at what cost.
Following a harrowing experience in which Dr Trent and the director of the treatment facility are kidnapped and tortured, the entire FBI division is on edge and the staff of the hospital in disarray.
Enter Winter, anxious to visit and reassure Justin of her love and commitment. But Little Brother has bigger plans! When Dr Trent finds Justin and Winter missing from his room, a dead nurse in the bed and a cart if medical supplies missing; Autumn must deal with the fall out. Its all hands on deck at the FBI office as there are more questions then answers about the escape.
As innocent lives are lost, SSA Aiden Parrish and his team are a step behind. Following video evidence the agents are forced to consider if Winter is a willing participant and not a hostage.
When the "modern Bonnie & Clyde" duo is located, it may be too late to save anyone. Winter faces a challenging choice which could end in carnage? Just what, or who, is she willing to sacrifice?
Book #5 in the series was the best so far. It was non-stop action and drama from beginning to end. Winter went through hell in this one and I found myself thinking, occasionally, you deserve it because you’re so blind! Then I would feel bad for thinking that! There were so many twists. Never a dull moment. There are a couple of despicable characters that I just dislike So much. One, being Chris. The other, being Justin, of course! There is a cliffhanger and I Cannot wait to see what happens next. This series is awesome.

This was an intense, complex, and severely twisted story including none other than Justin Black. Unfortunately, he's decided to take his sister along for the ride, which is undoubtedly one she'll never forget. It's certainly not one that you're going to want to miss! I would highly recommend that you read this series from the beginning. Most of the books have a case that starts and ends within that story, but there is a secondary plot that continues throughout the series. Not only will you have a better understanding about the secondary plot by reading all of the stories, but it will also give you more information about the characters, their connections, the different departments in the FBI that's involved, and the dynamics between all of them. They're all absolutely fantastic stories, and you certainly won't be disappointed. I would definitely recommend this book, series, and outstanding author.
Reading Autumn’s Chaos is like watching a horror movie except you cannot close your eyes at the scary parts. Winter is on her way to visit her brother ,Justin, late one evening. The hospital is understaffed, tempers are flaring and security is questionable. The unimaginable happens. Autumn is on her way to visit Justin that following morning; however, she offers to help out due to the staff shortages and it takes a while for her to go to his room. Once she goes to Justin’s room she discovers the unimaginable. Now the terror begins. Noah and Autumn never stop believing in Winter. You will need to read the book to find out what happens and you may want a glass of wine or something that will help keep you calm while reading. I don’t recommend reading this book in bed as sleep may evade you.
The last chapter reveals that someone is watching Autumn and that’s going to be a story for another book.
I don't know if my review will be posted or allowed because for some reason there is 45 reviews but 31 of those reviews are ALL ON June 9th at 1:51pm and ALL are 5 stars.
Let me start out by saying that I enjoy this author and have read all of her series I think so far but one. I feel this book should have been in the Winter series not Autumn's series. I'm saying this because Winter and her psycho/murderous brother were the main characters and Autumn was only in little parts of the book. Some how Winter has to be wrote out or at least have less parts because in my opinion she became a murderer. How can she still be a FBI agent after killing 2 innocent people. Yes her brother had a gun and NO I DON'T THINK SHE COULD HAVE STOPPED HIM because Her brother was going to murder that family know matter what and as a FBI agent she should have known that.
I voluntarily reviewed this advanced reader copy and I was not compensated in any way. What started out as a visit by Special Agent Winter Black to see her brother, Justin, who is a resident at the Virginia State Hospital. But evidently turns into a nurse being murdered and Winter being kidnapped. Who murdered the nurse and kidnapped Winter ? Winter’s best friend, Amelia Trent, who is a gifted criminal and forensic psychologist goes by the state hospital to visit a patient and finds out about the murder & kidnapping. And that Winter’s brother, Justin, is, also, missing. This is a intriguing story that presents itself as a gripping mystery. I really like that Mary Stone has created such strong characters as Autumn Trent and Winter Black. Both characters are very intelligent, very focused in their jobs and both can hold their own. I look forward to the next book in the Autumn Trent series !!
Please let Justin die in a simple auto accident is a future book. When Winter enters the facility there are multiple locked doors, but no one thought twice about a gurney being wheeled out of the building No one checked where the the dead employees pass was used There is no one that the FBI can call on to do a psych evaluation on the most notorious serial killer in history except a twenty something with a bunch of degrees who has a relationship with the prisoners' sister "None of that changed the fact that the siblings never should have been left alone together or that Justin never should have been uncuffed in Winter’s presence" I said the same thing in Book 4 Chris would not have been kept in his position in BAH unit How does Winter recover from this
Autumn's Chaos is scary as hell. When a psychopathic serial killer escapes from a Maximum Security mental institution, leaving a dead man behind in his bed, the FBI rushes to the scene. Their concern changes to terror & guilt when they learn that the escaped patient is Justin Black, accused serial killer and protégé of the murderous Preacher, and younger brother of FBI Agent Winter Black. Winter was the last person to visit Justin minute before his escape - and now Winter is missing as well. Is she another victim? Or is Winter the one who broke him out, and a willing participant in his bloody fantasies?
The action does not stop. This is NOT the book to read if you're looking to fall asleep.
The day after Autumn almost dying, her best friend goes missing along with her serial killer brother Justin. Of course Autumn feels responsible. The whole team is a wreck. While the storyline is fascinating it is also brutal. I have been waiting to see what happened with Justin but would never have guessed how this turned out. So much death and tragedy. The story moves at break neck speed. I read it in one day. I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to read the next one. I try not to let consistency errors bother me but one of the main character is SSA Aiden Parrish. The author refers to SSA meaning Supervisory Special Agent (correct) and Special Supervisory Agent (incorrect) multiple times in the book.
Another must read! AUTUMNS CHAOS is the fifth installment in the Autumn Trent Series by Mary Stone. She never fails to give her readers fast-paced, page turning, chilling thrillers. Everything I have read by this author is right at the top of the charts. I can't recommend Mary Stone's writing enough, every one of her stories and series just keep getting better and better. Yes there is the proverbial cliff hanger that leads into the next installment.
Justin Black has escaped the mental institution and the hunt is on. The news media is reporting that Agent Winter Black aided her brother's escape and released videos appear to validate her participation. Get Ready -- All hands on deck, killer loose, Agent missing, FBI Team falling apart.
Each book in this series can be read as stand-alone, but so much better read as a series. So, get ready for lots of twists, turns, and side plots that keep your interest and the pages turning.
I did received an advance copy of Autumn's Chaos from the author and this is my honest and freely given review.
Normally, I love Mary Stone's books, and Autumn is without a doubt my favorite character, however this one disappoints. It revolves around Winter's psychotic brother Justin, and the reign of terror he unleashes after escaping from the hospital for the criminally insane. There was an overload of disgusting violence, and I have to wonder about the appropriateness of two FBI agents who live together and work on the same team when they both have strong emotional vulnerabilities about this case ( Noah & Winter). I hope the next Autumn book resolves some of this.
IMO, this book should’ve been part of the Winter Black series since Winter and Noah were in it more than Autumn. Winter is a disappointment in this book. Her lack of judgement as an FBI agent caused chaos and tragedy. Also, enough of Justin! Since this is a “to be continued “ book it appears the next book will be more of the same. I now wish I wouldn’t have been 1-click happy when I bought the rest of the Winter and Autumn series. Autumn needs her own crimes to solve and not piggy back off of Winter’s personal tragedy. I can only give this book 2.5 stars but had to round up to 3. That’s being generous.
Ugh, the first chapter was all about Winter’s feelings and doubts and thoughts about Justin 🤮 This plot line really needs to get wrapped up or I may have to abandon this series. Surprise, surprise! Justin takes advantage of a situation 🙄
Nine chapters in and it’s still all about Justin and Winter 😳 Why is this novel called Autumn’s Chaos and not Winter’s Poor Choices?
And don’t get me started on the one-dimensional and predictable Agent Parker. Gah and ugh. I’m literally skipping pages. This story needed a bow on it… which I didn’t get. Perhaps it’s time to bail altogether. Part of the Kindle Unlimited catalog.
Wow , wow wow!!! What a book. Winter is visiting her brother Justin in the locked ward and he escapes taking her hostage with him. Poor Autumn has so many regents about letting Winter see Justin. Can Autumn find Justin and Winter before Winter or others end up dead? This book had so many twist and turns. Just when you thought you knew what would happen a twist happens! What a wild book. If it wasn’t for the fact I was in the last week of school I would have finished this book in 1 day. If you have been reading this series grab this one now it’s incredible. It’s a definite must read.
I don’t even know how to describe how many times my eyes got huge or my mouth dropped open in shock. This book pulled out all the stops and was fantastically thrilling, horrifying and mesmerizing all at once. I have so many questions for so many characters and I don’t know how things will go next, but I am ready for them.
So many good characters and they were all in a new situation here. The one character Chris is even more of a weasel then I thought, but all the others are more and more outstanding with each book and case. Great writing and a captivating story!
Yet another great book. The amazing story line that continues to keep on thrilling us the story readers to the thriller series of so many characters pulled together and yet another story evolves out of the story that keeps ongoing memories with each new episode. Not sure how Mary Stone keeps on keeping on to keep us updated on so many different issues. Her story line is absolutely a wonderful way of keeping us coming back for more. Keep on reading, you won’t regret it. This series is awesome.
This was a never ending nail biter. Some parts were so horrible I wasn't sure if I wanted to continue the story. I can't believe Winter was so foolish to think her psycho brother could be fixed. She never should been allowed to see him in the prison or hospita!. Her friends tried to tell her, but she just wouldn't listen. The chaos for her mistake was deadly to so many people. The story goes on and so does the deadly trail of bodies. Is it possible for this to have a happy ending? I don't think so.
This fantastic book continues the Autumn Trent series and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Back at the psychiatric hospital where murderous psychopath Justin Black is being treated chaos has erupted. Winter is there to visit her brother but is left alone with him due to lack of staff. During the mayhem, a nurse is killed then Justin and Winter disappear. From there it is a wild goose chase that leaves a slew of bodies and abandoned cars in their wake. Most assume that Winter "has clouded vision" when it comes to her brother, and that she is helping him. Is she a psychopath like her brother or is he forcing her to do things she would never do. Another excellent story with an amazing ending! I received the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Finally Winter Black has realized that her baby brother is gone. The person who took his place is a heinous creature of death and destruction. The only way to stop her brother is to put him down. But is it too late? Has he slipped through their fingers? And is there a new villain on the scene? Who is watching Autumn? This book will keep you in the edge of your seat. I read it in one sitting. It will hook you!
Wow! Autumn’s Chaos is amazing. The horror begins on page one and continues throughout the entire story. Autumn is still recovering from a terrifying experience with the last case when Justin Black escapes the Virginia State Mental Hospital taking his sister Winter Black and Autumn’s best friend hostage. This book holds you captive til the very explosive end. Amazing. I can’t wait to find out what happens next.
