Mary was a little lamb. . .

Mary Reyland was fed up with being taken for granted, and ready to step on a few toes--while wearing a pair of sexy black fishnets to her next client meeting. . . . Till she discovered her inner vixen!

Edmund Davis enjoyed being in charge. That's why he chose to work with "mousy" Mary. But when a sultry, confident Mary strode into his office, he wasn't sure how to handle the challenge. And apparently the new and improved Mary wasn't going to settle for anything less than she deserved, in business or pleasure. . . .

Dara Girard is a national bestselling and award-winning author. After many novels in various sub-genres from contemporary to paranormal romance, women’s fiction, and non-fiction Ms. Girard continues to win readers with each new book.

I was born many years ago in the American Midwest to a brave immigrant couple who decided to call themselves my parents. They moved around the country until they finally settled in Maryland. As a child I was always scribbling something and my family supported my efforts (with white knuckles and a lot of prayer).

After graduating from college, I worked various jobs and did some freelance writing hoping that one day my writing efforts would make me rich and famous and allow me to quit. That didn’t happen. Instead my last job was made redundant and I decided not to look for a new one. Instead I chose to live on my savings (and mild insanity) and write full time.

I would not recommend this route for other aspiring writers. Either marry well or have three years worth of salary saved. I took the risk because I wanted to and fortunately that same year I received an offer from a publisher for a two book contract–after a thirteen year effort, but that’s another story.

By Invitation Only

“Power Play” is a sweet and charming “fairy-tale”. And despite the “fairy-tale” feel of this story, Ms. Girard still made the story plausible with some of the “real-life” issues her characters had to deal with throughout. I was thoroughly CAUGHT UP in the witty and humorous dialogue between Mary Reyland and Edmund Davis. Edmund came on the scene as a man in TOTAL control of not only his business, but his personal life, as well. And he was DEFINITELY used to getting what he wanted. He was powerful, sexy, arrogant, yet surprisingly he had a kind and gentle nature. Poor Mary, never had a chance after her first encounter with Edmund. After discovering he sabotaged her career plans, he is determined to make it up to her, while attempting to become a permanent fixture in her life. Mary is portrayed as a plain, unassuming, average looking woman, who has been taken for granted in all areas of her life, but upon receiving the invitation to the secret society she decides to take her life back. With her new makeover and her new stockings she's transformed into the bold, assertive and desirable woman she's always dreamed of being. But can she trust a man like Edmund with her heart?!! Or will he up and leave her like all the other men in her life?!! I thought the concept of the secret “Black Stockings Society”, was fun and intriguing. I found the main characters engaging and the secondary cast with their hilarious antics and vivid personalities only aided in making this an entertaining read. Once again Ms. Girard has created a heartwarming and romantic tale. I can't wait to read the next installment in the “Black Stockings Society” miniseries.

The black stocking series is always refreshing with the mystery of how the character's are chosen.Mary took a little longer to believe in herself. Edmund was a complex character .I found it was a little slow but the story was good

It was a good story. I have enjoyed the black stocking series before. This was a little slow but character's pleasant.

Going After What You Want

Settling for less than what you want or deserve is never fulfilling in life. It is refreshing to see Mary have the tools to get up and get what she wants out of life and love.

mARY was invited to join a secret society and was given clothes and stockings to improve her image. Her friend became jealous because Mary would not tell her what was happening to make her improve her self image..Mary had an older friend whom she loved who was forced to go into a center of which Edmund had control. She found discrepancies and then the fireworks started.
