My thanks to the author for my digital copy to read and review.
Anyone up for a laugh? Yes? Well, if you can suspend your belief for a while and just go with the flow, you have a delusional (but somewhat lovable – eventually) HP Hero with no filter and no game! A Casanova or a flirt this guy is not. Knowing how to woo a girl, nope. But, hey! It works for him – and I guess for me too because this was sort of a fun read! 😆 Add in a spunky heroine who can’t wait to be deflowered and you have an hour or two of entertainment when you need an escape. Still interested? Ok then, read on….
This must be a recycled book because at one point the heroine says to Hero “This is 2015”…
We start with 21yr old virginal heroine, Eve, vacationing with her friends in Budapest and staying at Hero’s hotel. Hero (Dom, 29 yr old) and heroine’s family are business rivals going back to their grandparents’ days all because heroine’s Grandma rejected Hero’s Grandpa and broke his poor, poor heart leaving him devastated and revengeful for generations to come. 🤷
MCs first meet at a bar and never exchanged names or anything personal other than a dance and a lot of sparks (aka horniness). Then a few hours later they run into each other again and heroine is inviting him to “see” her room. 😂🤣 Before the boy even walks through the door, without preamble or finesse, he asks her to take off her clothes so they could f***k. See? No seduction, no lead way, no game plan for this manchild. 🤦♂️ (Me thinks the boy needs lessons in wooing a girl…).😛
Anyway, just when they are about to do the deed, Hero sees the name of her brother on her phone and realizes who she is and kicks her out of his hotel. (Gotta love these HP Heroes 🤪).
“You’re not Domenico Blackwood.” As in Winslow-Blackwood Enterprises? WBE. No. “Don’t pretend that’s a shock. What the hell is this? Do you have cameras in here or something?” He looked around while pulling his shirt over his head. “What? No! That’s disgusting.” “It is disgusting that you would do something like this. I can’t believe how low your family stoops.” “You came onto me,” she cried. “You asked to see my room! And my condoms.” Along with her breasts and her body and, apparently, her humiliation. She had thought the rivalry between the Blackwoods and Viscontis was ancient history, but it was real and here and she suddenly felt sick. “Did you plan this?”. “No”. He looked as outraged at the accusation as she had been. “I would have had you removed if I’d known you were staying here. I’m going to have you removed now.” “Get out of here and I’ll remove myself.” She hated that crack in her voice. And the scald in her throat that was climbing to press behind her eyes. “You don’t tell me where I go in my own hotel.” He punctuated that with a derisive point. Contempt flashed in his bronze gaze as his gaze flickered to the sheet across her waist. “Don’t try to use this against me. I’ll bury you.” “Same to you,” She said in such a puerile response, it only earned her a snort and a final, dismissive curl of his lip." Hmm…. lip curl like Elvis?
That was four yrs prior. In the present, heroine is attending a wedding with her reluctant to call him a BF of 2 months – someone her family is pressuring her to marry but she doesn’t want to. The girl is still a virgin and Hero too is seeing an OW – someone he is “testing the waters” to see if she can be a life partner with AND has been celibate all this time as he can’t forget heroine.…. 😏
But once again, within hours of seeing each other, and without any flirting or getting to know one another, they once again go right into the whole “BAM, Thank you MAM” route:
“Do you have more condoms”? Dom asked gruffly. “If you don’t, that will end this. I cannot get you pregnant.” A pang hit deep in the bottom of her heart while a fearful excitement filled her lungs. Lie, she told herself, Just say no. “Two. They’re in my bag.” “You couldn’t lie?” he asked with exasperation, twisting his head around to glare at her. “You could simply not use them,” she suggested with a bat of her lashes. A wild flash of lust glinted in his eyes, one that seemed very excited by the idea of naked sex. “I always use them,” he said in a voice that dropped several octaves so it abraded her skin as he spoke. “And you could say “no”, Evie. Say it,” he commanded. She stubbornly sealed her lips and lifted her chin in challenge.
---- “You’re such a pain in my ass.” He reached for her bag where it was lying on the floor and passed it to her, holding onto it when she started to take it. “It would only be sex, Eve. Once. We get it out of our system, then we never tell anyone. We don’t talk about it. We never see each other again. This isn’t the start of something.” “You’re saying that as if I want it to be.” She noted that he called her Eve when he wanted to impress the gravity of his words upon her.
------
No soft seduction here. They picked up where they’d left off in Budapest, kissing as though the other held the last drop of water available on earth.
Gotta love this smooth Hero. At least he hit home run this time and got the job done! Lol. 🙄
“ I want to give you a collar of hickies,” he said against her throat. “You can’t,” she moaned. ------ “It’s time.” He efficiently rolled the condom down his length. It was past time. It was the only time. ---- “Mmm.” She jerked and he did it again. The thickness of him filling her amplified everything, bringing an immediate flood of heat. “Mmm,” he mocked. “You like that.” He circled his thumb, avoiding, avoiding, then skimming across in a tease. She hasped again, accusing, “You’re mean.” He dragged his gaze up from watching the play of his thumb. “When it’s necessary. Tell me if I’m too rough.”
A small cry of joy escaper her.
Halleluiah! The girl had her cherry finally plucked!!!
“Evie.” She dragged her eyes open to see his eyes were glittering through the fading light, his cheeks dark, his teeth bared. “it’s me.” He lightly pinched her nipple. “I’m the one doing this to you.” “I know.” Did he think she was fantasizing about someone else? He was her entire world.
Uhm… “her world”? Was the sex THAT good? ‘cause I’m pretty sure up until then these two didn’t know squat about each other and damn, there was no foreplay! Girl, you should have waited and insisted on the foreplay at least!
------------ Where the hell were all those good people when he was taking an even bigger risk with his life? If this affair ever got out, both of their families would come after him. Evelina Visconti was absolutely off-limits, taboo and forbidden. Which had to be the reason that had been the most incredible sex of his life. By a long shot. That, and breaking such as long dry spell. He knew, though. Deep down he knew it had been like that before he’d known who she was. That’s why he’d obsessed over her for the last four years. That’s why he hadn’t had sex with anyone else. T had to be her. That’s why, like a rube fresh off the turnip truck, he’d fallen for the “We’ll do it once to get it out of our system” rationalization.
------ “We don’t have a condom,” she reminded, voice growing unsteady with arousal. “I know,” he grumbled and brought his hand back to her stomach. “We could do other things.” She rolled to face him. “Hell, yeah, we could.” He pressed her beneath him.
------ “Greedy little Evie,” he said against her ear, teeth catching at her earlobe while he pumped. “You just can’t get enough, can you?” 😝 ----- Virginity was not something he prized or even considered much of a thing. By the time he’d hit his first home run, he’d rounded all the other bases dozens of times. Being her first wasn’t gratifying in a possessive, ego-driven way. Well, maybe there was a little of that. He was growing more possessive of her by the minute, but he was doing his best not to be a barbarian about it. No, it was more about what being her only lover told him about her and them.
“I put it together from bits of gossip.” He shrugged. “The first time I heard that you were saving yourself was in Budapest. To be completely frank, before that, I had never given you a thought. Your whole family was beneath my notice. The late arriving baby sister was never going to be a threat to me so your name was all I knew.” Beneath my notice. “This is turning into a great first date. She took a hefty gulp of her wine and looked to the window again. “Your love poems need work.” “I want you to understand, Evie.” “Understand what?” Her mouth trembled and her yes sheened with persecuted tears. “that you have the upper hand? That you can make me do things that are out of character and self-destructive? I know. That’s why I hate you.” And that was it. “That’s why I hate you, too.”🤦♀️
Yeah, that line would drive me to drink too…. Can someone – anyone - PLEASE teach this boy to woo a woman? 🙄
Once their “tryst” is over, they both go their separate ways and there is a lovely conversation between heroine and her family where she blows them all to pieces. Then we have Hero brokering a deal with her brother for her hand in marriage thinking that he loved the sex so much that she would make a good wife without those pesky emotions, but he failed to inform heroine first. BIG mistake. HUGE. ‘Cause I LOVED how she answered him! 😅😂🤣 Oh you poor, poor delusional fool!
Anyway, we have our buffoon MCs marrying, a little push & pull by Hero who is too dumb to realize he is in love but finally gets his head out of his arse and voila! HEA!
Oh, these crazy kids! Gotta love ‘em.
Safety:
Cheating: None. Hero was previously engaged to OW before he met heroine (that was 6 months prior to meeting heroine) but it was not a lovematch. More a practical type relationship and OW broke things off because he didn’t love her. No drama with this OW or the one he was sort of dating (2 dinners count as dating?). Heroine was a virgin. OM her family set her up with causes no issues either.
Other Info: Heroine takes the after-morning pill so not to get pregnant after they had first had sex. In my HPs, that’s a No-No for me as I like me some cute MC babies.
HEA: Yes. Two years later, happily married with their first kid.
Note: I was given this book for free in exchange for an honest review. I have said this before in all my reviews, I always give honest reviews whether people appreciate them or not.
This is a Hate to Love Romance, and this book has Romeo and Juliet vibes. I really loved the characters in this book, and I loved how the romance slowly happened. I got pulled into the story and characters for the beginning and did not want to put this book down. I received an ARC of this book. This review is my own honest opinion about the book like all my reviews are.
What can happen when a Visconti and Blackwood meet? Unbeknownst to each other, Eve and Don meet at a club. Their chemistry is off the charts. Even though she’s young, he can’t seem to walk away until he finds out who she is. Their families hate each other and both want revenge. So they go their separate ways. Four years later they run into each other at a wedding. When they are stranded on an island after Eve was hurt and they missed the boat, the have a night of passion. What can hurt? Just one night. Back at the wedding destination, Eve leaves. When she returns home to her family where they question her about Dom. She’s had enough of her family treating her like a child, so she leaves. When Don realizes that it’s time to let the feud go he proposes marriage to Eve with her brother’s blessing. She agrees to marry him so they’ll be peace. Both haven’t been with anyone else for the last four years. Dom knows that they can be faithful and make a good life together. Will it work? Will Eve fall in love with Dom? She’s only wanted a marriage with love. Will he break her heart? Will he fall for her? Will the families finally let go of the past? The characters are wonderful. I didn’t want to put the book down. Both have issues and need to figure them out. Can they? Will it come between them? Dani Collins always bring you into the story. One of my favorite authors. I received this book for my honest review. I give it voluntarily.
I didn't write a review right away, so I don't remember exactly what I thought of this. I suppose "forgotten 2 weeks later" says something.
It held my attention while reading it. There was certainly chemistry at the beginning, but I didn't like the age difference. It's not uncommon, but there was something about how it was framed that made it kind of "ick".
I didn't like how he threw her out. I didn't like how easily she carried a torch for him/accepted him back given that treatment. The "staying celibate for 4 years because of some dirty dancing and a hot, handsy makeout session" is a common trope, but I just never buy it, and dislike whenever it pops up.
And the whole, "Let's have a secretive rushed wedding because we aren't horny for anyone else, and to give me a reason not to ruin your family, and you by association" felt....lame. It was a cop out. Characters in denial are not my thing.
One silver lining? I liked that he stuck up for her professionally at the end. In general, I dislike when young, female main characters are given huge professional responsibilities beyond what their experience warrants, due to their proximity to the MMC....but in this specific instance, I liked that he advocated for her, and supported her professional ambitions (rather than her dropping out to pop out a million babies to hand off to the nannies, as is so common in so-called "HEA"'s). And not in a condescending way.

Marrying the Enemy by Dani Collins, is an enemies-to-lovers, take on the Romeo and Juliet theme. The Visconti and Blackwood families have been feuding since Maria Visconti jilted her Blackwood fiancé to marry another. Eve Visconti has just finished university and celebrating with her friends in Budapest, when an instant attraction draws her to a man in the club, where they share a dance and a kiss. The next morning, while sharing another kiss, Dom discovers who she is and throws her out of his hotel. Four years later and Eve has never forgotten Dom Blackwood, the only man she really wants to take to her bed. When they find themselves stranded on a beach, during a destination wedding, the sparks fly as they finally give into their attraction. Dom knows to stay away from the Visconti’s but one meeting, years before and she is the only woman he can think of, especially after a night of passion that was supposed to end it all it. He has to have her, and wonders if he can end the feud by marrying. Convincing Eve is another obstacle for Dom to overcome, but he is the perfect man to do it. These two are perfect together; a perfect fit and match.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. #NetGalley #Harlequin
The Blackwood and Visconti have been in a family feud for generations. Domenico Blackwood is a sexy billionaire. Evelina Visconti is an heiress. Dom and Eve meet at a local club. The two are instantly attracted to each other and share a kiss and a wonderful night together. After Dom finds out that his family and Eve’s family are feuding he is not happy and walks away. Years have passed and Eve has never forgotten about Dom. When the two find themselves stranded on an island the sparks, chemistry and attraction for each other is ever so present.
When Eve and Dom finding their way back together will the feud continue or can they convince their families to set aside their differences and give the couple their blessing.
I received an ARC via NetGalley and I am leaving my review Voluntarily.
How can this author pack so much action and emotion into such a relatively short novella? I was instantly swept up in Evie and Dom's story, from their anonymous first meeting to their realization of the intense family feud dividing them to their reluctant acceptance of the chemistry they share to their attempts to end the feud and heal the wounds of the past. Such a roller coaster of emotions, perfectly paced, filled with longing and sizzling heat that is only the beginning of all the future has in store for them.
The writing is exquisitely descriptive, the emotions are raw and honest, and the tension is palpable. This is a story I'll read again and again just to bask in the joy of this beautiful romance. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Spice: 3 Characters: Eve and Dom. Age difference. Chemistry: insta lust. Eve is a virgin. Plot: The protagonist families are enemies. They meet at a club in Budapest. There is instant attraction and they act on it. However, the hero finds out who she is and throws her out of his hotel. Four year later they are at a destination wedding and finely give into their attraction. From there on Dom pursues Eve and convinces her to marry him based on physical attraction and to end the family feud. Overall: It starts slow but the story picks up. The writing is good.
Delectably tempting! Dani Collins brings a forbidden romance to life in her latest when she pairs Domenica Blackwood and Evelina Visconti together amid the family feud they've endured for generations. The sparks fly and their attraction beats the odds as years pass before they are reconnected. I liked them together and while some of the happenings were a tad far fetched, I did enjoy their story quite a bit. There was passion, angst and turmoil all rolled into one delicious storyline. I recommend this fast paced book to anyone who enjoys the forbidden and angsty romance!
A great story that kept me intrigued until the end. Dom and Evie are great characters that give off Romeo and Juliet’s vibes (but with steamy scenes, of course!) if the Shakespearian characters were older and less reckless… I absolutely ADORED their lovemaking scenes, full of passion and emotions and a touch of angst because they tried to fight their feelings for the other. A wonderful reading from the beginning until the end!
What an incredible start to a marriage. Both Dom and Eve were part of a feuding family saga. They wanted to end the feud and thought by marrying it would do so. They did not consider the chemistry between them which was so strong that soon they realised that it was th the forever kind of love. They had succeeded to end the feud between their families and start a tradition of love and support for them all
Dani Collins has done it again. A forbidden romance between Domenica Blackwood, Dom, and Evelina Visconti, Eve, as they find their way to each other amid the family feud that has been going on for generations. The sparks between these two are undeniable and sultry. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys the enemies-to-lovers romance.
This is quite a creative story, taking the enemies to lovers trope in some interesting directions. I enjoyed Ms. Collins’ writing very much. She managed to describe and display what Don and Eve were going through extremely well: their family dramas, their amazing chemistry, and their evolving feelings. I plan to read more of her work soon!
it was a bit too chaotic for me to enjoyed the enemies and marriage of convenience. the plot was a slow start and very instalove which I don't mind, but I didn't find it work with the characters here.
So, of course these two are gonna hook up. Then have to marry each other. Dom and Eve have fighting families and an attraction to each other. The obvious solution...to wed.
In this sizzling romance, Eve Visconti and Dom Blackwood, heirs to feuding families, share an intense attraction that ignites during a chance encounter. Despite knowing they should stay apart, they can't resist each other, leading to a passionate relationship. As they grapple with their family's feud, they must decide if marriage can bring peace. Dom's emotional growth and Eve's determination make for a compelling love story that will leave romance readers smiling.
