OK, so I was fine with mice playing baseball, but then there was this nonsense about how it took 12 mice to pick up a big bat and when they got walked, they all 12 were on base and then they all 12 scored (and added 12 points). Come on - this is not believable. At least Play Ball, Amelia Bedelia knows it is being ridiculous.

This is a beginning reader, and as that, this is a fine book. It is interesting, somewhat funny, and has a plot. The problem for me is that the Mighty Mites cheat to win the game and Old Casey calls, "Play ball!" The official rules state the umpire calls "Play!" Yeah, minor errors, but things that bother me. The story could have been just as good without those problems.

Mice At Bat is about mice playing baseball against cats. As a teacher, I could ask them to make a prediction of who is going to win the game. This book would capture a boy's attention. The moral of the story would be just because they are bigger doesn't mean they will win.
