Anna Curren, an investigative journalist becomes obsessed with the case, and with the blessing of Grace’s parents, she employs the services of a private investigator. I am an author and live in the north east of England. After working thirty-two years as a steelworker, I retired early to concentrate on writing. I have been writing approximately eighteen years and have written and published thirty-four novels and over fifty short stories. My main genre is psychological thrillers and horror, but I have published a biography of a late friend and a war novel concerning the Holocaust. My impatience with the mainstream publishers and my former publishers folding prompted me to self publish. i have rewritten and republished my books with KDP in 2022 and 2023. When purchasing, I would advise the latter editions. I appreciate all feedback. Thank you.
Anthony Hulse. What a read this is. The Abduction Of Grace. This is another must read by this author. In this book he tackles a tricky subject and handles it very well indeed. Find out what happens to Grace and her family, this adventure takes in Majorca, France and the UK. The book goes along at a fair pace and it will keep your attention through to the end. I am working my way through this authors book list and enjoying my journey. This book is a must read. 5 stars. 17 May 2015.
This was simply superb. The conclusion of this wonderful thriller was so fulfilling. Artistically written with a superb range of varied characters. Set in a series of vibrant locations, Anthony takes us on a roller coaster ride of immense pleasure. I’m certain we’ll hear more from this gifted writer.
My rating: 3.5 stars This book started out at a thrilling pace with the abduction of 5-year Grace. After about 25% into the book, the pace of the story slowed down and meandered a bit in the middle. It picked up again at the end with the revealing of Grace's abductor and the backstory. Overall a good read, but I was disappointed in the uneven pace of the story.
On the whole, I found this book to be undeserving of the harsh criticism of other reviewers. It certainly held my interest and was very readable. It reminded me of a similar true story involving another little girl who went missing many years ago. In that case though, the child has never been found. The child in this book, Grace, was also abducted when her family were on holiday. Despite several years of sightings, Grace’s whereabouts were only known to those who were involved in her disappearance.
Her parents face the usual accusations of being responsible for her abduction, especially when it’s disclosed that the husband paid a large sum of money to clear his gambling debts. Eventually, they are persuaded by an ambitious journalist to hire a small team of private detectives to find her. They discover that mafia gangsters are involved, but all is not as it seems. I didn’t see the final twist coming and to be honest, I’m not altogether sure I understood it. Nevertheless, it was an enjoyable read and I’ll certainly read more of Anthony Hulse’s work.
Anthony Hulse is so bad a writer I found it fascinating to read this Novel. Full of cliches. He two senior British police officers behaving like illiterate security guards on the Plane to Majorca! That did it for me. Save your money!
You can’t help but have another child abduction case in mind as you read this. But the fact that this story has a conclusion and all the questions answered sets it apart from that famous case, which has many similarities. The author was obviously touched and saddened by it.
Like that one, when Grace goes missing, the parents are immediately slammed as being neglectful for being in a bar and drunk at the time. Later, they also become the primary suspects in the case, which hampers the police from looking too hard elsewhere. That’s where Anna comes in. She’s a hungry journalist working on an undercover TV programme, but can she keep her mind on the job? Danny wants her back, but will she go to what she knows or cast her net elsewhere? The emotional fallout of the missing child steers the story through stormy undercurrents—parents under scrutiny, underworld danger, and clueless investigators. Every decision feels heavy, and every clue draws you to wonder.
Another cracking story from a cracking imagination. The writing is verbose and bordering on archaic, but that adds to the story’s charm. It’s a globe-spanning thriller, and I love the travel elements. Hulse does travel descriptions so well.
The psychological intensity is well handled. There’s a sense of inevitability as the pieces come together, but we have a twist ending that’s smartly constructed and emotionally resonant.
