If there is one thing Sloan excels at it is writing stories that pull you in. I read this in a single day thanks to her sharp pacing, relatable characters, and truly phenomenal spice. No one writes spice quite like Sloan.
Some parts did not fully work for me. Even so, I know many readers will find so much to love here. Sloan’s heart is on every page, and I hope this book reaches the audience it deserves.

I don’t even want to come back to my body after finishing this book. The reading experience was so swoon-worthy, the perfect complex mix of pure joy and emotional damage. I was totally swept away by Raf and Angie’s love story, and had so much fun reading the wild sexual exploration they get up to during Angie’s surprise pregnancy. Raf steps up to “take care of her needs” despite them deciding to stay “just friends” and CO-parents to the upcoming bbs. SURE, GUYS :) The kink exploration and role-play scenarios they act out were actually so funny to me, it felt so freeing and goofy to be able to laugh along with it as they display their ultimate trust in one another to be the most vulnerable they’ve ever been both in and out of the bedroom.
Angela , Angie, Angel, Zofia Johannson … the GODDESS that she is. It made me feel so happy and seen to read her acceptance and celebration of her fat body <3 IMO, she gets EVERYTHING she deserves to have Rafael worship her body and be at her beck and call through the magical months of her pregnancy. GOOD! FOR! HER! She is also a children’s mental health counsellor, and this is significant to her backstory of having lost her mother at a young age and having to be the one to parent all of her younger siblings when her father couldn’t step in to do that. She defines a parentified child and she is constantly working on boundaries with her siblings and giving herself grace to feel and heal from this trauma.
Rafael Jimenez…. The SLUTTY KING that he is. I’ve never read a more perfect, caring, sunshiny rugby babe in my life. I adored not just himself and his relationship with Angie, but I also loved Raf’s family and the role they played in the book for both him and Angie. Raf has 2 loving moms that are such a strong, healthy example of love. Even though he has this, he still struggles a lot with defining his emotions and desires because of the shallow, unstable relationship with his father. As a child of divorced parents with both mommy and daddy issues, Rafael’s character really spoke to me and offered me validation to know that it’s not a child’s fault if they idolize their parent, even if said parent is a shitty person.
There’s seriously SO MUCH to love about this romance and if any of the tropes strike your fancy, you should totally give this a chance. I can also HIGHLY recommend Sloan Spencer’s other 2 romance novels, the Structure duet, which might even enhance your reading experience of EVOY, because those main characters are here too! We looooooove Marco, Jay, and Cora <333333 CAN”T WAIT FOR MORE INSTALMENTS IN THE RUGBY LOVERS WORLD :’)

The internal dialogue 😭 be prepared to read about characters who are struggling with self-worth and accepting love. It was an interesting choice to use friends to lovers because I think these 2 would not have overcome their relationship demons without having a preexisting relationship. Get ready to cry or have some feelings tap danced on. Rafael's epiphany with therapy was too easy. It almost felt like he didn't want to lose his family so he got it together. I could ignore that part bc the conversations about their Dom/sub dynamic were really great. They were constantly negotiating and talked through their discomforts.

Catch me crying in the club (brewery) while I finished this book before book club last night. Did I also drop into @sloan_spencer_author DMs? You betcha 😅
I wish my memory was better and I could remember who shared that Sloan was looking for ARC readers (I know I know I didn't need anymore ARCs) but I'm glad this is how I ended month one of ARC-mageddon.
This continues my year (since last July) of giving accidental/surprise/unexpected pregnancy (when done well) a chance. After reading Out on a Limb last July...I welcomed the notion that this trope could be enjoyable. And what both Sloan and @authorhannahby do in their books is create this beautiful friendship between our main characters and that's what keeps me reading.

Loved this! And probably found a new favorite author. The writing was great. It was easy and casual with a bit of humor and a lot of heart. I felt like I was reading about real people and was hooked right away. The friends and family were just nosy and pushy enough to be realistic without going over the top. The cultural, relationship, and gender and sexuality representations were naturally included. The spicy parts were hot and moderately plentiful. Raf role playing as a Kraken for Angie is my new favorite thing from a contemporary romance.
I know not everyone loves an accidental pregnancy trope but do give this a try. It was a large part of the story, but the greater part was about confronting emotions and learning to embrace the good right in front of you.
I will absolutely go back to read Cora's story and look forward to more books from this author.

This book was like if Next to You and Out on a Limb had a baby. This was a cute friends to lovers romance and spoiler alert, they accidentally get pregnant. It was so sweet seeing Raf, the mmc do every little thing for Angie. I loved the representation shown in this book and all I can also say is thick thighs save lives 😛 I didn't like the conflict and plot twist though, it was not needed especially at the 90% mark.

I wanted to like this book so much more than I actually did.
The characters were likable and their relationship was really sweet. The bond between the two MCs and their community was really well done.
That being said, some of the dialogue just felt a little goofy. I just hate when authors try to use too many “internet” phrases or pop culture references!! SUE ME!

Unexpected pregnancy is an oft maligned trope given the myriad options for contraception in today's world. I am trash for this trope though. It's far and away one of my favorites. Throw in some childhood friends to lovers and I'm done for.
Angela and Rafael (Raf) have been best friends since they were ten years old, secretly loving one another all the while and believing their love unrequited. After a drunken night neither of them remember, Angela learns she is pregnant. As a consequence of her pregnancy hormones, these two agree to a friends with benefits arrangement for the duration of the pregnancy. Some of the hottest scenes in recent memory ensue and I. Was. Here. For. It. These two explore BDSM, dom-sub dynamics, primal play, role playing, and more. Insanely hot!

This was not my favorite read, but it was decently written.
Personally, I’m not a fan of music being thrown in throughout a story. I love music and listen to all genres, but find obscure music references annoying.
Some of the spice also read like someone shyly explaining dark romance kinks. And no character was just straight. Everyone was either gay, bi, trans whatever. When the only thing you know about a side character is their name and orientation, then they’re pretty much a useless character and only there to unnecessarily push lgbt representation. Which fine, but give some other development to these characters if you’re going to include them.
The writing itself was decent though. You get to see Cora and her now husbands from previous books. And the friends to lovers trope with an accidental pregnancy is always fun to read. I’m sure others will like this more than I did.

The writing was cringy, the characters were cringy, and the MMC and FMC have drunken sex (that we don't see, and they don't remember!!!!!! despite both being in love with each other secretly) that leads to pregnancy, and oh yeah, we hear a LOT about the past people they've fucked.
Also, the FMC mentions she can have alcohol while pregnant and...ick.

Have you ever struggled to articulate what you need to say so you just scream from excitement? Because that’s where I’m at. Sloan Spencer has a way of making her characters feel so real and so tangible. I was transported into Angie and Rafs story and I didn’t want it to end. I felt all the emotions while reading this; I was weeping one moment, screaming the next and belly laughing all over. It was written beautifully. Hands down the best book I read in June!

Also, Raf plays rugby and if Raf playing rugby makes Angie swoon I need to see a rugby game irl. Can we also talk about how huge these rugby thighs are?! It was so cute to see glimpses of Cora, Jay & Marco too!

This one was not my cup of tea. I fell for another TikTok quote pull and wanted to give it a try. I’ve been in such a slump. I found the characters to be not very likeable, I found their miscommunication to be extremely annoying. I think the author tried to combat that by emphasizing their history but that somehow made it so much worse. The spice was super cringy to me. A lot of it felt very forced and icky, it’s just not my kind of spice. I felt like this book had so much happening but nothing happened at the same time. I caught myself rolling my eyes at some of the plot choices. Anytime I felt like it was cute or on the right track it would fall back into the patterns of plot and writing I do not enjoy. Once again I didn’t really like this one. But hey, I actually finished so that’s gotta mean something.

I always read for vibes and I don’t like to over analyze things in books but OH MY GOD this book was not it. It had some things/themes that really rubbed me the wrong way and it made me cringe a lot.
I think I should’ve dnf’ed it sooner but because i wanted to see where it was going i kept going and given that I finished it, a 2 ⭐️ rating is me being generous :)

“What I want is someone to be obsessed with me the way I am about them. I want an all-consuming love bracketed by commitment. I want to laugh with someone about the dumbest, most cringe-worthy moments until we could pee ourselves, and then we’d laugh from sheer disgust.”

I say this with the most respect, this book was quite the read. I highlighted so much in my kindle cause I adored Angie and Raf’s inner thoughts and how they think and see the other person. Their friendship was absolutely wonderful and I loved seeing them navigate the future of being parents, their kinks, and the different ways they love each other.
Something I appreciate from this childhood friends to lovers book is that we could still see and feel how deep Angie and Raf’s friendship is without needing flashbacks.
Also, we all know I love a plus size curvy queen heroine.

This was a great Rugby romance friends to lovers, dual POV, accidental pregnancy indie romance!! Spicer than I'm usually used to but with fantastic mental health rep and psychological insights into grief over lost loved ones, family trauma and toxic parental relationships. The sexual fantasies between besties Raf and Angie were highly entertaining and the chemistry between these two was top notch! Looking forward to the next book in the series!! I also have to give a shout out to the author for giving a real Latino culture description of the characters and their personalities. I have to say, it's hands down on of the best books with Latino representation written by a non-latino ( who knows, she might have some blood).

I laughed. I cried. I wanted to throw the book at the wall.
I absolutely loved everything about this book and couldn't put it down. (I've read it twice already 👀). It was beautiful and emotional and I felt like I was there with them the entire time. Rafael and Angela were made for one another and couldn't be more perfect. Also, plus size? Pregnancy? Sports? Sign me up for anything. The book was a perfect blend of everything and I can't wait for anything else Sloan Spencer writes!

Wow, this book was so good! Childhood best friends to lovers is one of my favorite tropes, and this one absolutely delivered.
It took me on a full emotional rollercoaster from start to finish!laughing one minute, on the verge of tears the next, then right back to laughing again. It was exactly the kind of read I needed.
Angela and Raphael’s journey was everything. Their emotional growth, the focus on mental health, and the way they explored their desires felt both raw and real. The BDSM and kink elements were 🔥, but what really stood out was watching them learn to love not just each other, but themselves. It was equal parts hilarious and heartwarming.
Safe to say I’m immediately diving into the next book!
And the best part? I found this amazing new-to-me author at a random local bookish event. talk about a win!

This was a beautiful friends to lovers story, featuring a Latinx MMC and his plus sized best friend. I thoroughly enjoyed the peppering of Mexican culture and Spanish language in the book. Angie and Raf’s friendship is beautiful, from the day they met as children to the day they find out their having a baby, their bond is unbreakable.
The way their families are interwoven and have inside jokes and family traditions together is touching. I especially loved the queer diversity. Queer people are in all communities and to see Latinx queer/trans folks represented was beautiful
We also get a chance to catch up on Cora, Jay & Marco from Structural Support and the fact that Angie & Cora get to be preggo together is the best. We love when besties birth the next gen of besties together.
