Swim Into the North's Blue Eye takes the reader on a lyrical and lonely trip through Canada's northern lakes, fly in camps and perpetual roads trips that go from one desolate location to another. Lapointe's concise language allows a lot of emotion to be conveyed through a few short lines and her constant skip from one cultural setting to another leaves a permanent nuance of impermanence. There's also a lot of lakes and water on the journey, so if I had to come up with one word to describe the poems it would be Lac-lilting.
