Ex-con Seth Zimmerman has spent the last three years making amends by helping the vulnerable in his former Amish community. Lately, this mission includes calling on Tabitha Yoder, whose divorce from her abusive husband has isolated her from the community. Even though she never comes out of her house to talk to him, Seth knows she watches him from the window while he chops wood, clears her driveway, and drops off food. An uneasy friendship is just starting to take hold between them when small gifts begin to appear at Tabitha's home--gifts that can only be from her ex-husband. Seth might be Tabitha's only hope at maintaining her hard-won freedom from the man whose violent outbursts had almost cost her life. But coming to her rescue might mean he ends up behind bars once again. Get swept up in this emotional story of two outcasts who may be each other's only hope for happiness and redemption from New York Times bestselling author Shelley Shepard Gray.

Readers who enjoy Amish Romance Fiction or suspense will find this book to be a great read. In the beginning it starts off slow but the pace picks up quickly and at times it will become an edge of seat read. The apprehension of knowing Tabitha Yoder’s ex-husband was hiding out nearby, planning to make good on his threats to kill her made my hair on the back of my neck stand straight up. I found myself flipping the pages and not wanting to put the book down. I enjoyed reading the teaser intro page for the next book of the series tucked in at the back of the book. Tabitha Yoder and Seth Zimmerman were the main characters. They both were outcast of the Amish of Crittenden County Kentucky. Outcast though not banned. Circumstances from their past put them both in this standing in their community. Secondary characters were Bethanne Hostetler, Lott Hostetler, and Melonie Zimmerman. The villian in the book is Leon Yoder. Seth was a gentle kind man who helped Tabitha when she most needed it. His character has been carried over from The Rumors in Ross County Series. Tabitha lived in fear that her past would catch up with her again someday.
I recommend Unforgiven to readers of Amish romance and suspense. Fans of Shelley Shepard Gray will love this first book of a new series. This book is scheduled for release on 5/21/24.
I voluntarily read an advanced readers copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own. #Unforgiven #NetGalley
Unforgiven is a story that pulls on the heartstrings, a story of two wounded people who are outcasts from the Amish community. Tabitha Yoder was the victim of spousal abuse. She did the unthinkable of the Amish and divorced her husband. Seth Zimmerman defended a young Amish woman against an attack of another Amish man. In the fight, the man fell, hit his head on a rock and died. Seth went to prison for saving her. Seth has had a crush on Tabitha since she taught school as a seventeen-year-old. Tabitha won't leave her home and Seth does small things for her., like cuts firewood, brings her food, and she watches from her window. Seth is avoided by the community and even his parents won't have much to do with him. But God sees them and loves them. Theirs is a tender relationship that develops slowly and cautiously. It takes a tragic event for others to see them as they should. Sometimes, we need to forgive ourselves even if others do and both have to accept grace already given. Lovely and heartwarming story. A side story is one with Seth's sister and her special young man as they become close. I received a copy for the purpose of an honest review. These are my thoughts.
I chose this book because (1) I love Christian fiction (2) I love discovering new authors (3) Revell/Baker Publishing has quickly become my number one publishing house to support and (4) I know absolutely nothing about the Amish.
For this book, Gray takes readers to an Amish community in Crittenden County, Kentucky where she introduces us to two of the outcasts, Tabitha Yoder and Seth Zimmerman. Tabitha endured an abusive marriage and divorced her husband when he was sent to jail. Knowing that this isn’t condoned by the community, she’s distanced herself and become a recluse for the past 5 years. Seth has also been ostracized as a result of coming to the aid of an Amish girl. He indirectly caused the death of her attacker and did prison time. They provide hope for each other and continue to attempt to rebuild relationships with their Amish friends and family. When Tabitha’s ex is released from jail, there’s no doubt that he’ll pay a visit it Tabitha. Will Seth be there to protect her? Will these two ever be welcomed back?
Author Shelley Shepard Gray’s themes of acceptance and belonging affected me. Because she had explained what the church stood for and described the life of the Amish, I felt the anguish these two had in wanting to be accepted for who they were instead of what those in the community wished them to be. I’d never considered the push/pull relationship between English and Amish. The message about not allowing the past to define one’s future was loud and clear as was the encouragement to make peace with ourselves and our past so that we can move on and find love. I think what inspired me the most was the Amish sense of community and their deep faith.
I enjoyed rereading Matthew 18, Romans 16, and 1 Corinthians 5 to see the scripture the Amish use in basing their response to a violation of order. I was driven to Google ‘Ordnung’ and ‘meidung’ and was surprised at how simple it was to have a shun lifted. Gray shared with me the simple life of these faith-filled people and I respect how they take care of ‘trouble’ within their family or within the church. For someone with zero knowledge of this community, I appreciated Gray sharing the differences compared with our culture and then showing us how this simplicity, like their church, is instrumental to their faith.
Author Shelley Shepard Gray loves writing about the Amish community! I enjoyed this introduction to her new series and discovering a new author as much as I enjoyed learning about a new faith and reading a great story about taking risks. I'll definitely read more books by this author!
I was gifted this copy by Revell Books and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.
Well titled! Both main characters grew up Amish and while not officially shunned, neither is welcomed in their former Amish community. Divorce is highly discouraged and Tabitha sought a divorce after her ex-husband nearly beat her death. Seth served time in prison for protecting a friend from assault and harming the assailant. Tabitha in particular is slow to trust anyone and lives a very insular life. Seth very slowly builds her trust and breaks down the barriers.
The side story of Seth's sister Melonie is a compelling one as well. She loves her brother yet wants to honor her parents decision to keep Seth at arm's length. As Melonie blooms toward adulthood she becomes introspective about her relationship with her brother and a potential suitor.
Pages were turning and I'm glad this is the start of a series.
My gratitude to publisher Revell for a complimentary copy of the novel. I was not required to post a review and all opinions expressed are my own.
*****I received this ARC ebook free from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
Another Amish romance. This is a favorite genre of mine. I found this to move fairly slowly to start. I liked the idea of the ex-con Amish man and the divorced Amish woman who had been abused by her ex husband. There were some good take away messages throughout.
Unforgiven Shelley Shepard Gray This is the tale of two souls both filled with unjustified guilt. Seth Zimmerman paid for his crimes. He has spent the last three years helping those that need it in the Amish community. Tabitha Yoder is one of the most vulnerable. She divorced his abusive husband causing her to be shunned in the community. Seth drops food off for her, chops firewood and keeps her driveway clear. He knows she watches him from her window. Without talking they begin to form a friendship. Small gifts begin showing up at Tabitha’s home; she knows they have to be from her ex-husband. The man was so violent she almost died. Seth knows he has to be careful, or he will go back to prison. There are two major themes in this book. Forgiveness and Trust. The hardest part of forgiveness is forgiving yourself. It is so easy to keep dredging up old memories that prevent you from forgiving yourself. God is ready to forgive you all you have to do is ask. Once you have been hurt it is difficult to trust again. This tale brought tears to my eyes. Both Seth and Tabitha had a hard life, especially Tabitha. I couldn’t help but love both Seath and Tabita. The secondary characters add dimension and depth to the plot. The setting for this book is beautiful Crittenden County Kentucky. Well done Shelley Shepard Gray.
Thank you NetGalley for a copy of this book for review.
Will Tabitha’s crazy ex-husband find her or can she remain free? Will he put Seth and his family in danger? Will Tabitha & Seth continue to care for one another or will they resign themselves to the fact that they can never be? And if they do continue to care for one another, which one will have to make the change to make themselves work? I loved how Shelley made me feel all of the anxiety and tension that the characters were dealing with. Besides all of that, there is also romance, forgiveness, and healing. A perfect way to spend the day on the couch with your favorite beverage, lost in the pages of UNFORGIVEN, a heart-tugging but beautiful story.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Fresh Fiction. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
When I seen this book I knew I had to have it. I love anything this author writes. A wonderful start to a new series that I thoroughly enjoyed. Poor Seth and Tabitha! No one deserves to go through what they did. Especially Tabitha! I feel that she did the right thing. In fact, I know she did. She's my heroine! I couldn't out this book down! I had to see what happened to this sweet couple that I've come to know and adore. Forgiving yourself is a hard thing to do let alone forgiving the other person. Trust is also hard. Once broken down its hard to her back. I should know. This story will make you cry, hold your breath and make you mad all at the same time. It did me. At the injustice of it all. I really like the cover of this book. Sooooo mysterious and it makes you wonder what happened to sweet Tabitha to make her afraid. You'll just have to pick this amazing story up and read it for yourself. I believe that you won't be disappointed. I know I wasn't. Loved every minute of it..I think though that my favorite character was nosy Melonie Seth's sister laugh out loud. Which she actually did at times. Gotta love nosy sisters. 5 stars for realistic characters and tough subjects that are well written to keep you turning the pages and you will be thinking about these characters long after the story is finished. I know I still am. I believe that these characters will be memorable for a long time. I highly recommend. My thanks to Netgalley for a copy of this book. I was NOT required to write a positive review of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
Unforgiven was an emotional and compelling story that I did not want to set down! The author dealt with some heavy topics, including domestic abuse. It was hard to read about what happened to Tabitha with all that she went through and all that she lost, yet the author handled the subject well.
The two main characters in this story, Tabitha and Seth, are what you could call Amish adjacent, I suppose. They are both formerly Amish. They both still live near their Amish community yet are not Amish anymore and both live under a cloud of judgment from their former friends and family.
I thought that the author did a wonderful job of showing the internal struggles that both of these characters had faced over the years since the events that changed their lives. The reality was that even though there were things they regretted from their pasts, they both realized that despite their community’s judgment, they knew that they were forgiven by God and that certain actions they took were necessary, no matter what the community thought.
I loved seeing the way Seth and Tabitha connected and the way she grew to trust him. Seth was such a good man and I loved getting to read his story. This is the first book in a brand new series and you don’t have to read any books before it to understand the story. However, if you do want to read a couple of books that have Seth as a side character, you could pick up the Rumors in Ross County series and get a few more scenes with this formerly Amish ex-con.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
"It’s always been my belief that a person can ask others for forgiveness, but the hardest person to grant absolution to is oneself.”
I have read many of Ms. Gray's books and have enjoyed them all. However, this story may be my favorite of hers to date. The book is a bit on the gritty side with an ex-con for a hero and a precious heroine who was once a victim of spousal abuse. With that said, this book offered hope and love. Seth showed his love for Tabitha in various ways. He was being the hands and feet of Jesus by chopping wood, leaving food, and just being there for her. I loved Seth! Tabitha is a precious character who showed she was much stronger than she thought! There is a secondary romance as well! I really enjoyed this book! *I was given a copy of this book by the publisher and this is my honest opinion.
Seeking a story steeped in faith and forgiveness? Shelley Shepard Gray's Unforgiven is a captivating novel that explores the depths of faith, God’s grace, forgiveness, and the blessed, Divine gift and power of human connection, offering a balm for the soul.
We meet Tabitha Yoder, a woman ostracized from her Amish community after escaping an abusive marriage. Haunted by her past, she lives in seclusion, her spirit as fragile as the walls she's built around herself. Enter Seth Zimmerman, an ex-con burdened by a tragic accident. Both ostracized, they find a tentative solace in each other's company.
Gray's masterful storytelling is infused with a deep understanding of Christian faith. The characters' journeys of healing mirror the redemptive power of God's grace. Each step towards forgiveness, whether for oneself or others, feels earned and deeply moving. Unlike some Amish fiction, Unforgiven doesn't shy away from the brutal realities of domestic violence. It tackles these sensitive topics with grace, offering a glimmer of hope through the unwavering strength of Tabitha's spirit and the unwavering compassion of her newfound community.
The suspense rises like a simmering pot as Tabitha's past resurfaces in the form of her abusive ex-husband. This external threat mirrors the internal battles they both face, forging a bond that strengthens with each shared burden. The supporting characters, particularly Melonie and Lott, add depth and warmth to the narrative. Their blossoming romance provides a delightful counterpoint to the central couple's struggles, reminding us that even amidst darkness, love finds a way to bloom.
Unforgiven is a gripping read; it's a transformative experience. With the precision of a season craftsman, it intricately weaves together, through the lens of Christian faith, the threads of faith, grace, and forgiveness into a narrative that penetrates the depths of the soul. Through its pages, the essence of God’s boundless, redeeming love is palpable and redemption and reconciliation unfolds beautifully.
This book is a must-read for anyone who enjoys Amish fiction with a deeper touch. It's a story that will resonate with those seeking a journey of faith and forgiveness while embracing God’s incredible and endless grace.
God says in Isaiah 1:18 (NLT): Though your sins are like scarlet, I will make them as white as snow.

I am in love with this new series and can't wait for the second book to hit the shelves! It was so good that I read the book in two days, would have been one if I didn't have to get some sleep. The storyline was extremely good, you have two people who are trying to overcome their pasts. In a community who doesn't want to forget their past. Being from a small community myself, I know the problems that arises out of people who doesn't forget or forgive the past mistakes of others. Whether you are Amish or Englishers, this book will draw you right in. Plus I love having another story inside of the normal storyline. These couple of sentences stuck out to me. "It happened all the time.Sometimes there really was someone in the right and someone else in the wrong. But that didn't seem to matter. People believed what they believed and didn't want to be swayed no matter what evidence there was to the contrary." If you want to find out if the main characters will be forgiven and their past forgotten, you will need to grab you a copy of this book and read it to find out what happens. You won't be disappointed. I want to thank Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read an arc version of this book. I was not required to leave a review and this is my personal thoughts of the book.
The title, Unforgiven, makes you think. Who is unforgiven? For what? Could it be so bad that it could never be forgiven? This is an Amish novel. Don’t the Amish believe in forgiving no matter what?
Unforgiven is the first book in a new series, Rumors in Ross County. And what a beginning. Seth Zimmerman is an ex-con who has worked for three years in his Amish community to make amends. He assists people who need it — the vulnerable. One person he often helps is Tabitha Yoder who did the unthinkable for an Amish woman. She divorced her husband — her abusive husband. She is now shunned. Seth began two years ago. He just appears and does what needs doing.
Tabitha stays in the house. They do not talk but she watches him sometimes from the window. She is a few years older than Seth and was his teacher in the Amish school. Seth has been dropping by and doing various chores for two years and Tabita feels the need to say thank you. And from that thank-you, a friendship begins, an uneasy friendship, but it is what both need whether they know it or not.
And THEN … little gifts begin to be left at Tabitha’s door. After verifying the gifts are not from Seth, the only person it could be is her ex. Tabitha is scared and justifiably so and Seth isn’t about to stand back and let anyone hurt Tabitha. Even if it means he is arrested again.
The beginning is so well-written that I was pulled into Tabitha’s and Seth’s story from the beginning. We meet her sister & husband and their precious boys. And the three people who were intricately involved in Seth’s arrest. The story builds adding pieces of information that confirmed my suspicions.
As happens often when I read Amish-based novels, something reminds me of yesteryears. This time it was putting milk into mason jars, refrigerating them, and waiting for the cream to rise. Growing up we did the same except a mason jar wouldn’t hold enough milk, so a gallon can (well-cleaned) with the top removed was used instead.
When Chance appeared … I’m a sucker for puppy dogs. Chance adopts Tabitha. Dogs have an instinct that tells them when people need them — even when they don’t know they do.
Unforgiven is a wonderful story. I highly recommend it. And I’ll be looking forward to the next book in this series.
I received a complimentary DRC (digital review copy) of Unforgiven via NetGalley from the publisher, Barbour. A positive review was not required; the opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
Rating: 5 stars Series: Rumors in Ross County, #1 Cover: Grabbing. Catches the eye. Pages: 292 Publish Date: 21 May 2024 #Unforgiven #NetGalley #ShelleyShepardGray
I love the way Shelley Shepard Gray writes heroes that appear big and tough on the outside but turn into teddy bears with the people they care about, specifically the woman they love … and Seth Zimmerman is one of my favorites! This ex-con has had my attention since I first met him in another series (though he is a slightly different variation of that character here), but he completely stole my heart in Unforgiven. He was exactly what Tabitha Yoder needed, and she in turn was exactly what he needed too. I absolutely loved watching these two fall in love. Seth on a mission – to protect Tabitha, yes, but also to woo her – is incredibly swoony.
Both Seth and Tabitha are former Amish, now isolated from their community (though not shunned) because of choices they made. Seth, for being an ex-con (after accidentally causing the death of someone who was attacking a friend). Tabitha, for daring to divorce her abusive husband after he took one precious life and nearly took hers, too. That’s another thing I love about Gray’s Amish novels – she never tries to portray the Amish as perfect saints who live in a utopia but as flawed human beings just like the rest of us who are touched by the same things we deal with in the ‘Englisch’ world. The tough topics in Unforgiven are handled with an abundance of grace and lots of heart, tempered with sweet romance and moments of wit, too. Seth and Tabitha are truly good characters with compelling backstories, and the Amish they still interact with are as well. Including Seth’s sister and her new beau, whose perspectives I also enjoyed reading.
Bottom Line: Unforgiven is another heartfelt and layered story from Shelley Shepard Gray with absolutely engaging characters you’ll love right away. Along with the charming romance (plus a bonus), there’s an air of underlying danger and fear that lurks around Tabitha, thanks to her ex-husband, that gives the book a dash of suspense to keep tensions high. The perfect excuse for Seth’s teddy bear heroic side to come out, something which certainly put a grin on my face, but for Tabitha to find her own inner strength as well (which also made me smile). This book really does have it all – including an adorable hund – so make sure you’ve added it to your TBR list!
(I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book)
“I don’t blame you for wanting a fresh start, but you might want to remember that the Lord has already offered you one.” Shelley Shepard Gray has written a moving story dealing with guilt, forgiveness, and trust. Although the book goes to some dark and difficult places, it demonstrates that there is nothing we go through that God is not there, nothing we do that He cannot forgive. It is when we will not let Him take our guilt and teach us to trust that that we do not find the healing we crave. This was a good reminder to me as I know I can be hard on myself instead of accepting His offer of grace. I look forward to the sequel with resolution for some of the other characters. *I received a complimentary copy of this ebook from NetGalley and Revell Publishing. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Friendship, forgiveness and faith shine through this character driven story set in an Amish community. Two people shunned by their Amish community find renewed friendship and encouragement in learning to forgive themselves and move on from past traumas.
"...a person can ask others for forgiveness but the hardest person to grant absolution to is oneself."
The author skillfully addresses difficult topics like domestic violence within a tight knit community where misjudgment and gossip have done their damage. A tender romance between the main characters grows from an awkward friendship and is lovely as it blooms into something more. A redemptive theme adds hope and grace to their struggles. The writing flows well and is easy to read. I enjoyed the last half of the story more as the pace picked up and the tension builds with some peril. There are some brief mentions of violence and a past assault, but nothing too detailed. A satisfying read overall. A set up for the next book looks promising. 4 stars
(An ebook was provided by the publisher via NetGalley. All opinions expressed are my own.)
4 1/2 stars. I’m assuming this is the first in a new series. But the way it is introduced makes me feel like I missed a previous book. So after searching and not finding a previous book, just hoping now there will be more. I really liked the main characters, Seth who served time in prison, probably unjustly. Tabitha who is reclusive and scared of her ex husband, although neither has been banned officially, they are not made to feel a part of the community. I don’t want to give too much of the storyline away, but it is quite engaging. I have never read a book by Shelley that I didn’t enjoy. I am glad the publisher approved a review copy through NetGalley. This is my honest review.
I thoroughly enjoyed this inspirational tale of second chances. Most of the Amish fiction I read tends to portray only the devout and practicing Amish. Unforgiven focuses on a woman who was shunned for divorcing her husband and an Amish man who went to prison and is unbaptized. Seth Zimmerman went to prison for accidentally murdering an Amish man who was assaulting a woman. Tabitha Yoder was a young woman who married a monster. She was physically and emotionally abused constantly, but she left her husband for good after he beat her so bad she miscarried their baby. These two outcasts find they have a lot in common and start to grow closer. A slow burn with lots of interesting side stories and characters. I was rooting for Seth and Tabitha the whole way!
Unforgiven is an Amish story about broken people wanting peace and to recover from adversity. It's about redemption and learning to forgive yourself and move forward.
As the story evolves, the characters are real and draw you in like old friends. They have many layers and the author's writing style lets you unlock them as you read. The story's setting brought the story to life, the suspense kept me engaged, and the ending wrapped everything up nicely. Highly recommended.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher and a positive review is not required. All opinions are my own.
Not a huge Amish book fan since I live in Amish country Ohio, but I do enjoy Shelly Shepard Gray writing and this book doesn’t disappoint. The story of 2 ex Amish both shunned for their past. Together they find hope and forgiveness. It was a fun read and I definitely routed for our 2 main characters. I couldn’t put the book down. A 4 star read!!!
Loved reading the inspirational and captivating story. Since Tabitha's divorce from her abusive ex-husband, Leo, and being shunned from the Amish Community, Tabitha's hesitancy stops her from leaving her home, and Seth, an ex-con who saved a woman from being raped, is also shunned, but he feels he should help Tabitha, a woman he has always liked, with chopping wood and leaving her items she could use. Read the highly recommended, wonderfully written, and a must read riveting story of two people finding each other in an unforgiven world. Can't wait to read the next story by the phenomenal author, Shelley Shepard Gray!

My thoughts: 📱63% 4:42:45 Chapter 21 - I can't believe they named a kid Lot. This story is really good I am very sad that I am this far into it. The good books always go so fast. There is another book coming out called Unforgotten that features the same characters and setting, so I'm excited about that.
This was pretty good I struggled with the double standard misogynistic view of the community. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series. "In this propulsive series opener from Gray (His Risk), two outcasts from the Amish community in Crittenden County, Ky., forge a friendship that might become more if their pasts don't derail it first." - Publishers Weekly
Recommend to others?: Yes. This is a good mix of Amish and Christian Romance with the perfect amount of Suspense.
Crittenden County (Unofficial) 1. Unforgiven (2024) 2. Unforgotten (2024)
I love reading a book cover to cover. When reading the authors notes for this book, (this time I read them ahead of time), she talked about how Seth’s story was a continuation of The Rumors in Ross County series. Because I loved this book so much, I am now reading that series as well. I originally picked up this book because of the back cover blurb but I could not put it down because I entered into the lives of Tabitha, Seth, Melonie, and Lott. I could see the characters points of view from both the parents of the young adults as well as the young adults feelings. The author did a great job of letting us see into the hearts of all generations and the tough decisions that had to be made, whether or not their hearts agreed. I absolutely loved Seths initial conversation with Lott. Oh to be able to speak truth in love that way. Not my gift but one I admire. The author did a great job of showing the vulnerability of the characters while also showcasing their strengths. Excellent book. I hope this is not a standalone but that there will be more to this community and these families.
I was given this book as a complimentary copy but was not required to write a review.
I was surprised by this new to me author. This story had a good balance between showcasing the Amish’ ways and beliefs and bringing it together with the English world through Seth and Tabitha who grew up in the Amish world, but due to circumstances and events, lived a life away from the Amish.
The author did a great job with Tabitha’s character – showing her difficulty to trust, fear, and timid nature due to past abuse, but also the internal growth to become the stronger women at the end.
Seth was a wonderful character, one who just served others’ needs out of love, without expecting anything back. I enjoyed all his complex relationships and interactions.
I adored all the side characters from the Amish world, especially Melonie, Seth’s sister.
I did not expect to enjoy this story as much as I did!
*I received a complimentary copy from the publisher. All opinions expressed are my own.*
This was a really sweet romance that covers some difficult topics not usually in Amish romances, and does so in a way that is very well handled. The characters are well rounded, and I enjoyed that the romance is slow and steady, and the way the characters interact is very believable. I thoroughly enjoyed the book, and will definitely look for more by this author. Many thanks to the author and Publisher for allowing me to read the book!
Book one of a new series. Seth has been in love with Tabitha ever since she was his teacher. Since that time life hasn't been kind to either of them. Both have left the Amish faith and are estranged from their families. Can they reconnect and have a happy ending? Time will tell. Lovely story.
A beautiful heartbreaking story that tackles the difficult subjects of domestic violence, date rape, and imprisonment. A gripping storyline that pulls you in from the opening pages. Wonderfully written to make you feel all the emotions of the characters making the story come alive.
Tabitha barely escapes an abusive marriage with her life but not without scares both invisible and visible. Seth finds himself in prison after stopping a potential date rape. Both being Amish when these instances happen, they have to deal not only with their own feelings but also the fallout within their Amish community. Tabitha and Seth form a tentative friendship while continuing to work through their pasts.
This was a moving story with very difficult circumstances handled with great sensitivity. This author’s books never fail to move me and make me think. This book will not disappoint and sets the series up to be outstanding!
I was given a complimentary copy of this book by the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions expressed are completely my own.
Tabitha is a divorced former Amish woman. She lives a solitary life in fear of her ex husband. Seth was in prison due to an accident. He keeps coming over to Tabitha’s to do small chores. It takes awhile but eventually Tabitha welcomes Seth into her life. However she starts to receive small gifts that could only come from her ex husband. This was a delightful on the edge of my seat read. I was able to read this from NetGalley.
I really enjoyed it. I've been waiting a long time for Seth to get his own book, and know he has! He was always so intriguing in the previous books. Firstly, I enjoyed the story's energy and suspense. It kept the book moving so that it never got bogged down. Seth and Tabitha had great chemistry! Surprisingly, even the side characters had a very cute romance going for them. In the past, when the author switched back and forth between characters, they would get on my nerves over stupid drama, but this one was okay.
Kentucky's Crittenden County is described Beautifully. For suspense, it has its darker moments, but when describing the actual area, it's really accurate. And the food when described, sounded so delicious 🤤!
The book's resounding theme was forgiveness and how the characters needed God's forgiveness, to forgive themselves, and those around them. As the reader, we can all relate to that. I very much enjoyed this book. It's always a pleasure to pick up one of Ms. Gray's books!
