Ex-Human-Echo by Axelle Law was everything I love in a post-apocalyptic read. The worldbuilding blew me away—so many details about how this world came to be felt realistic and well thought out. I especially loved getting to know the ex-humans, and Echo stole my heart. Her transformation from a soulless “robot” to an empathetic, deeply human-like being was masterfully written. With every chapter, she became a more endearing and relatable character.
Elise, the former captain of the resistance, was equally compelling. She faced every hardship with remarkable resilience, and I appreciated watching her grow as she learned more about ex-humans. Seeing her challenge her own stereotypes—especially as she committed to truly understanding Echo—was incredibly satisfying. By the end, she became a true defender of them
The secondary characters also had their moments to shine—they were all well-developed and memorable, which isn’t something you see in every book.
The romance? Slow-burn perfection. Echo and Elise’s connection felt real and natural, never forced, and it complemented the story beautifully without overshadowing it.
Honestly, I can’t recommend this book enough. It’s one of those rare stories that makes you fall for the world, the characters, and the love all at once. I’d happily reread it someday, which is saying a lot for me!
P. S. My review is written in English since my french isn't that good.
