Sacking the Quarterback

Rate this book
Addison Kelly is a thorn in my side.
He's an American poster boy. Committed, passionate, married to the game… and the man standing between me and my dreams. Not everyone has it as easy as Mr. Perfect, and I had to work myself half to death to even get to the reserves. I need to get on that field and give it all I’ve got, but Addison is so consistently good that I’ll need a miracle—or an unfortunate accident—to get my chance. When Addison does get injured, when he needs time to heal, I’m the one who has to go out there and prove myself in his shadow. And for some reason, Addison is the one who believes in me the most. Suddenly, the man I thought he was, is put into question, and the person that I resented is turning into my biggest supporter. And now, for the first time, there’s something I want even more than football. I may get to play after all, but handling hearts is a lot harder than catching footballs.
Sacking the Quarterback is a standalone m/m romance set in the shared world of the Austen Troopers. It is written by Sienna Sway, writing contemporary as SA Sway. What to Rivals to loversProfessional football playersNo cheatingNo cliff hangerHEASpice

SACKING THE QUARTERBACK was a really cute read and I loved both Addison and Callum. They were great together as a couple, equally sweet and sexy, and after Callum's initial resentment they were 100% supportive of each other. The set up and plot were simple but the writing was really engaging and I read it all in one sitting.

Addison was the experienced quarterback who was friendly, generous, and quietly hiding his sexuality because of a bad breakup resulting in his ex stalking him over the years. Callum was the rookie quarterback on the team, nervous about his first year in the NFL and worried he would let everyone down. He's also never been attracted to a guy before but he can't help the attraction that builds as he becomes friends with Addison.

Relationship wise the angst is pretty low and while Callum comes to terms with his bisexuality fairly easily, the transition felt really natural. He had moments of hesitation and uncertainty and he took time to think things through. Outside the relationship, there's some drama with Addison's stalker that I wasn't expecting based on the book's description. I feel like it didn't always fit with the tone of the rest of the book but it did provide some emotional moments and a way to quickly build trust between Addison and Callum.

Content Warning: stalker (not one of the MCs)

Callum and Addison were just too adorable and sweet together. I loved the progression of their friendship to a relationship. It felt natural and organic, not forced at all. It felt right. Callum has recently been drafted, it’s his first season in the NFL, he’ll be the backup to Addison. He is so dang cute and nervous, but he starts out resenting Addison a bit, due to his own insecurities. Addison is just too charming, sweet, nice and has a great heart. He makes it his mission to befriend Callum, to support him and be there for him. Addison is in the closet, and has a mega crush on Callum. Addison also has a psycho, stalker ex boyfriend. When his ex starts messaging him again, it gets in Addison’s head, and he ends up getting injured in a game. Callum all of a sudden finds himself playing actual game time. The two get closer and eventually start fooling around. Callum has never been with a man but it feels right and natural. They are so adorable together. There’s some rocky moments in their relationship between football, coming out, but the stalker ex. The way they support each other and tackle things together is beautiful. I absolutely adored these two guys and their families and other players. This is an awesome world. It was a fun and enjoyable read, brought tears to my eyes, made my heart sing! There was drama and some angst to keep it interesting. Spicy scenes that were hot. I loved reading about Callum and Addison’s journey.

Callum has finally made it to the NFL. A dream come true. But being a back up quarterback isn’t exactly an easy thing to swallow knowing the chances of playing in an actual game is slim. Especially when the started quarterback is perfect Addison Kelly. Cal can’t help but be a little intimidated and reserved around Addison. But when he spends time with him, he can admit that Addison is genuinely a nice guy. Little does he know at first that Addison doesn’t have the perfect life. Addison has never told anyone on his team that he is gay. After his first love turned ex turned into a crazy stalker, he has never felt the need to come out when he can’t imagine a relationship. Especially when his stalker continues to be a problem. But there is something about Cal that draws him in. And when Addison gets hurt in a game and confides in Cal about what is going on, Cal steps up in more ways than one. And the more the two spend time together, neither can truly deny there are feelings beyond friendship there. These two were so sweet. I loved how they supported one another even though they are put in difficult positions on their team. They probably should be rivals, but neither really see it that way, especially once they get to know one another. They support one another and protect one another. It’s really adorable. And when a threat hangs over them, they are there for each other. I’m looking forward to seeing where this series takes us!

This is the first book in the Austin Troopers series and I really enjoyed it. This is the story of Addison and Callum. These are two of the sweetest and cuddliest MCs you will find in a book. Addison is the established quarterback and expected to lead the team to the conference championships. He is friendly, nice and an all around good guy. What you see on tv is what you get in real life. In spite of that, Callum is still able to resent Addison. When the two meet off the field, Callum is having car trouble and Addison helps him out. This starts the beginning of their friendship. This is their story. The book is very well written and easy to read. In spite of it being about two nice guys, there is plenty of action in the book. A stalker, a robbery and a kidnapping. It will keep your attention throughout. I look forward to the next book in the series.

This was an explosive start for a new series and hopefully a great layout for what lies ahead. The suspense mixed with some great content from our first season with the Troopers was really fun and nail biting at times. Though I was a little confused initially regarding Callum’s sexuality, but that was my first impression of him. Addison was an inspirational man and a supportive one, too! The side characters were very much likable, even if the majority of them were family.

It’s not very often we get two quarterbacks together, but these two definitely complimented each other. When Addison was injured, Callum stepped in with ease. Their dynamic was incredible, not to mention their chemistry being fiercely hot! Learning how they navigated through their respective careers with the addition of coming out was impeccable! And, the suspense with Addison’s past coming back to haunt them was absolute brilliance! I cannot wait to continue with the series!!

I hope the books get better

I am not sure if much research was done for this book, and whoever edited it needs to try again.

Back-up quarterbacks and other players always play during pre-season games. Pre-season wasn’t even mentioned and the players went from training camp directly into the season….there was no reason for Callum to feel like he would never get to play.

There were missing commas, extra commas, incorrect words and more.

Toward the beginning of the book, the description of Callum made me think he was a POC, but there was never a mention of them being an interracial couple. If he wasn’t supposed to be a POC, I think a better description of his skin tone and (especially) his hair should have been used.

I wanted to finish the book since it was the first in a shared world, multi author series, but the errors and confusing parts made it difficult.

So enjoyable
This is the second book I’ve read from this author and I’ve got to say I just couldn’t put this book down.
You’ve got Addison who is a star quarterback in the NFL who, after an injury becomes very close to the new quarterback that arrived on the team. Addison has a stalker which put Addison off of relationships.
Callum is brand-new to the NFL and he knows he won’t be starting any game soon because Addison Kelly is amazing. So Callum beats him self up a bit about not being good enough but when Addison has an injury Callum make sure he’s there for him. And the more time these two spend together, the attraction becomes very obvious . I really enjoyed the way that Addison is so patient with Callum m. so he can work out his own feelings. These two are just so amazing. They are perfect for one another, and I can see me re-reading this book again and again.

They say appearances can be deceptive and that we shouldn't judge by outward appearance. 'Sacking the Quarterback' proves to us that as true as both of these suggestions are there is more. We should not judge on percieved talents, either our own or those of others. Any form of judgement could mean we are missing out on some of the very best things that could happen to us.

When Callum was scouted by the coaches of the AUstin Troopers and can see the chance he has always dreamed of, to be in the NFL, come true, he couldn't be happier but then he gets to training camp and is far from impressing anyone. Bought into the team as a quarterback is a great opportunity but for Callum the issue is Addison Kelly, starting quarterback, leaving Callum as back up. As far as Callum can see he could be on the bench for the whole season and so, he has decided he dislikes Addison and is going to hold a grudge without even knowing the man.

Addison is who he is, what you see is what you get. An amazing starting quarterback, charming, funny, a good friend and teammate to the others, charismatic and kind. But underneath it all there is a turmoil, one that he has kept hidden for almost ten years. His first boyfriend, at the tender age of 18, became obsessed with him, to the extent that Addison had to have an order in place to stop the other man coming near him. Over the years there have been texts and other small issues but nothing serious. Until now. Now there is something scary going on and somehow Addison finds himself confiding in Callum.

Addison is a gay player, he is out if not exactly parading his sexuality for the world to see, and with his stalker ex still around he prefers to stay low key. He has fallen for straight teammate Callum, a fall which becomes more intense as the pair get to know one another and Callum has to step up after all - Addison is injured in their first game. What begins as tentative friendship becomes so much for them both but it is a lot for Callum to work through. One thing becomes very clear though ~ love is worth taking a chance on ~ it is worth stepping into the unknown for. For both Callum and Addison.

I was hooked by Sienna Sway's writing, her tone and approach is gentle, the angst levels are low, well except on the football field and the love is so incredibly palpable it leaves us with the feeling that we really can overcome anything with those we love by our side. Addressing the difficult question of how to be an open gay man in sports; heading, face on, the trauma and upset of a stalker, none of this book makes its reader uncomfortable, it all makes us feel warm, helps us see life from different perspectives and leaves an incredibly warm feeling inside. I am glad this is book 1, I am excited to discover more stories involving the Austin Troopers!.

Finding your strength, 360. Callum, QB dragging a few years behind him, sits on the bench while starting QB Addison gets first string. Addison, is a nice guy, so it's hard to hate him. Addison, is closeted and dragging some emotional fears as heavy baggage. He greatly fears rejection, so he hides his true self from the world. Callum and Addison develop a relationship that surprises both of them. Addison, has a hostile ex stalker that puts a lot at risk. Addison likes Callum so much, he starts thinking of stepping up and being true to himself, risking a lot. These guys are trying to stay true to their game while trying to be true to themselves. Good story, nice in depth exploration, great flow. Hot cover art! Well done! I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I must have read hundreds of sports Romances, mm as well as mf. This one wasnt one of them. The sports part is so low it's ridiculous. If you can ignore that fact the rest of the story also wasnt very well. Going into this I thought we would accompany Cal during his journey to become a good Quaterback and Addison would cheer him on and help him etc. Guess what? It just wasnt there. I really dont know what was? There wasnt a crisis because Cal discovers he is bi. The stalker side plot was half assed. The football plot wasnt there. If you take everything into account what left is half a plot and mediocre sex scenes.
Not recommended.

This is the first book in a new multi author series about an American Football team and I really enjoyed it. Addison and Callum were great together and I liked that there was no angst or drama about them getting together from anyone and that the the only problem was Addison’s stalker which finally got dealt with after having been going on for so long. Good read looking forward to reading more from this series.

70% and I just can’t read anymore. I’ve been wanting to DNF since 20%, the writing is not good. It’s very stilted and generic, the characters are flat.
