In 3816, interdimensional travel has made the Milky Way Galaxy a bustling hub of social exchange and trade, yet political frictions and violence linger. Planetary raiding, political subterfuge, even war, sporadically rear their ugly heads. Predatory beings still lurk in the shadows throughout the galaxy. The Last Event follows a year in the life of the Tilden family, inhabitants of the Terran Solar System, residents of the Terran equatorial space elevator, Quito Tower. Dave Tilden is a Professor of Ancient Food Stuffs and Food Preparation, and a famed and much-decorated galactic athlete. Nancy Tilden is a leading neurophysiologist who pioneered the diagnosis and treatment of interdimensional tunneling sickness, and a magnet of admiration throughout the System. They are the loving parents of three wonderful, if not occasionally challenging, school-aged daughters. 3816 becomes a terribly significant year for the Terran Solar System and its inhabitants, especially so for the Tildens. Dave is diligently maintaining his teaching duties while enthusiastically preparing for his upcoming participation in the Galactic Gaming Guild’s penultimate athletic competition. At the same time, during a normal medical rotation on a geo-stationary satellite, Nancy inadvertently becomes involved in a near-Jovian mission to investigate a ghostly, unguided ship that appears unannounced in Terran Solar System space. The repercussions of that operation will echo across the galaxy, involving galactic traders, piracy, subjugation, and a thousand-year-old mystery surrounding the disappearance of five hundred Space Marines who went missing from a consulting mission on the planet Magnor, one of Terra’s earliest galactic trading partners. This first part of this saga begins with tragedy, compassion, misadventure, and transcendence. It ends with the Tildens arriving at the exotic City of Junos where Dave will compete for primus galactus honors in the Cross-Galaxy Tournament. And in between, so many pieces are set in motion.
