RTC. I’m gonna need to process that ending for a few days 🥲
The Last Draig
☆☆☆☆
» while this is a review for book two in the series, I am going to try to keep it as spoiler-free as possible. «
If only I could send this to you through the flames ✨
“Grief was heavy—too heavy. It was a weight permanently tied to our souls after loss, only lessening with time, and it could all too easily drag us to the deep, unending bottom of our sorrow if given the opportunity. Without help to lighten the load, that was exactly what it would do: drown the hurt and vulnerable.”
The Last Draig picks up RIGHT where The Last Storm leaves off and if you’ve read The Last Storm, you’ll understand that it was greatly appreciated that JD wrote it this way. So, from the first page there’s a bit of chaos and adventure taking place.
While there is a lot going on from the start, at times it felt like there was nothing going on at all. There were times throughout the book that felt rather slow and other times that had my heart racing. While I am one for more adventure, action, and training sequences in my fantasies, I still very much enjoyed the story. I just wished there was more happening at times.
“And one day, the sun will peek over the horizon and shine so brightly, you’ll forget it was ever dark at all. And then… Then, you will live.”
I definitely feel that JD Linton laid this book out to be a buffer
for the havoc she is going to wreak upon our souls in book three.
And after that CLIFFHANGER?! I am READY FOR IT. I was desperate for book three the second I completed book two.
The Characters:
We get to see more characters in this book and I feel like we get to learn more about them than we did in The Last Storm as well. I enjoyed getting to know each of them a little better and getting to meet new ones. There were a good number of character moments that had me tearing up and grabbing a box of tissues.
The World:
I definitely feel like we got a bit more information about the world and how things work in this book. I definitely loved the addition of the wyverns and getting to see relationships form there (iykyk). I also really loved getting to see the way the magic worked more and the different powers each individual had.
“Let me make one thing abundantly clear: there is not a single force in this entire realm that could keep me from you. Not the shift. Not Adonis. Not even the chains of death. I would claw my way from the grave, defying the Goddess herself, before I ever let you shed a tear for me. You are not just my mate, Ara—you are my home. Even if you hadn’t come to my rescue, I would have returned eventually. I would have found a way. I will always return to you.”
Overall, I had a fun time reading this (even if it broke my heart in several ways) and I am looking forward to book three!! I do hope to get a bit more character development with Rogue and Ara so that they both see how great they themselves are and not just how great the other person is. They both just need a good ole confidence boost 🖤
As always, thank you JD for sending me an eARC of your book and thank you for giving me a world to live in for awhile 🖤
