Millie Jane Brooks’ dream of stardom falls apart when she can’t catch a break in Nashville. With her tail between her legs, she sulks back home to spend a few days at her best friend’s vacant house before facing the truth—she might not be cut out for a singing career. But Millie Jane isn’t the only one seeking solitude and when her high school enemy crashes her perfectly laid plans of escape, she's faced with more than just her current failures.
Dex Hart is looking forward to a quiet recovery at his step-sister’s house after a season-ending injury halts his hockey career. With questions about his future looming over him, he’s hoping to find clarity over the holidays. But when he gets snowed in with Millie, the girl who got away, old feelings rise to the surface, stealing any chance of rest.
Millie Jane's heart is guarded after Dex’s betrayal years ago, but Dex has missed her sassy remarks and sparkling eyes too much to let the past ruin this second chance at love. Dex is determined to help her see that God might have another plan for her life... and his.
Can Dex break the walls around her heart in time for Christmas? Or will she shut him out and run away like she did all those years ago?
Millie was kind of bratty in the way she talked and reacted to Dex. I was glad when her best friend (and his stepsister) called her out on her bitterness towards him early on in the book so that wouldn’t be continued for pages and pages.
There’s flashbacks to their high school years and it shows that this book really is fiction because Dex was way too smooth to be a high schooler, haha.
I appreciated that she wanted to leave the house they were staying at once their relationship got better and they started kissing. He’s too tempting for her and it would be better for her to leave. That's also about where the book ends, but I appreciate that thought nonetheless.
I really liked seeing the faith content and discussions throughout this book. I will say that at times it felt like the main couple used the phrase “praying” loosely (such as in terms of praying for an attractive image of the other to not enter their mind)
The romance was outside of my comfort zone with all the kissing/making out and physical attraction and tension, so I won’t be rating it. I liked some parts, but I don’t feel comfortable giving this book a rating because the romance was too much for my tastes at times.

This was the first book I have read from Latisha Sexton and now I need to go back asap and read all her other books! She knocked this book out of the park and I could not put it down. To me when I rather read instead of scroll Bookstagram then I know it is an instant 5 star read!
One of my favorite tropes since I started reading Closed Door Romances has been Enemies to Lovers and Latisha nailed it! The banter between Dex and Millie was just perfection!
Dex is the ultimate flirt with Millie and knew how to push her buttons but he was so stinkin cute. I loved that he had his unique nickname for Millie, could support and encourage her, and just wanted to win her back at any cost. I love when the guys falls first and Dex just falls hard. He is a pro hockey player and yet just has the sweetest soft side to him!
I loved watching Millie's journey through this book. I love that we get to see her when her walls are up around her heart and she is floundering. I love that we get to see how Dex not only crumbles those walls, but also builds back up her confidence. I love that we see her turn from a grumpy cynic to having hope again.
I also love that faith is woven throughout the story so beautifully! This book was full of so many words of hope, prayer, grace, and just the knowledge that He has a bigger plan for us. As my life is currently about to change in a major way, with my husband leaving his full time job to pursue his dreams, I needed this book for that reminder to just have faith and trust in Him.
If you need the perfect Holiday Romcom with faith, laughs, and the perfect swoony kisses give this one a go as soon as it releases! It is easily one of the best books I've read.
Physical intimacy Lvl 2.5 Zero Swearing Dual POV Christian Aspects
THIS BOOK! 😍 I’ve been dying to read it ever since Latisha started teasing about Dex & Millie on Instagram. It was all I ever wanted & MORE!
From the very first page & that less than auspicious meet-cute, I was hooked. 🤭 Millie was deeply relatable, and I loved her for it. Dex is a total sweetheart who made his mistakes but is trying to rectify them. (& his love of regency romance books and his freaky cat had me in stitches!) Plus, his relationship with his stepsister Beth is positively adorable.
Amid the humour, banter, clearly laid out flashbacks, sweet romance, and spawn-of-Satan spiders (iykyk) is a natural & real faith in both characters. I love how Dex so gently & wisely encourages Millie to seek God’s purpose & plan for her life when she feels like a failure. And how Millie learns to let go of her bitterness & extend forgiveness to Dex.
What else can you expect? 🎄 Best friend’s brother 🎄 Injured pro hockey player 🎄 Enemies to lovers 🎄 Forced proximity 🎄 Allllll the delightful hallmark Christmas feels without any of the cheesiness!
I stayed up extra late to finish this gem & it was worth every yawn as I kept saying, “One more chapter.” 😂🤭 I’m unashamed to admit that this story turned my practical, unromantic self into a puddle of mush. I’ve read dozens of Christmas books, but this is definitely claiming its title as a special favourite! 💛
This book. This book is amazing! The Christmas vibes are unbelievable: from being snowed in, to decorating a Christmas tree, to putting together puzzles and drinking hot cocoa, it’s all here!
I love Mille and Dex. Their banter! Their swoony kisses 😍 I also loved the friends to enemies to friends to lovers trope. I'll admit that the hockey romance bug hasn't bit me, but I think I may be coming into my sweet hockey romcom era 😉 I highly recommend all of Latisha's books and I swear every time I read her next release I say it's my favorite, but that just tells you that all of her books are that good!
I wanted to like this book, I really did. But it just wasn’t meant to be. I did like the female main character, Millie and the stringing popcorn scene. My first issue is the Male Main Character, Dex. He is very disrespectful in how he treats Millie. Her nickname is belittling, anytime she is angry he turns it into a physical attraction moment by either trying to touch her or flirting with her. (Some of his “flirts” go too far.) He basically ignored what she was talking about. If she didn’t like him back, he would be getting a harassment suit. Also he takes his shirt off to show her his tattoo and she runs her fingers over his chest and arm. (Um too much my friend) and he is always pulling her onto his lap. They are supposed to be Christians and this sets a bad example for how Christian couples should act. There were some cute moments but mostly I was bothered, unfortunately.
Read if you like: enemies to lovers romance with repentance and forgiveness, forced proximity, high school sweetheart second chance, hockey romance (still unsure why this is such a thing right now but whatever 😂), swoony moments in a clean romance, and most importantly, a story with solid faith elements woven in beautifully. And the cutest cover! What’s not to love?
I love when the guy falls first and also happens to be a relentless flirt. Dex isn't perfect, but he's perfect for Millie and is determined to prove it to her!
My fave parts:
🎄 The homemade Christmas decorating 🏒 Dex's reason for the injury 🔥The tattoo scene 🕷The spider incident 💜 The KISSES 🎶The hymn singing
For being a novella, this book packs SO much chemistry and cuteness 😍 DO NOT miss the one this Christmas!
I was really drawn to this book and intrigued because of the few lower star reviews that indicated some controversial content. I figured if this was a true romance mixed with an element of faith, which we rarely see these days, the characters and storyline must be complex to balance those two dynamics. After reading it, I must say, this is a perfect example of how it’s important to look past the reviews and judge a book for yourself. I didn’t feel like this story crossed the line by any means. The author was clearly mindful of being God-honoring in her content while still being authentic to the characters feelings for each other. It was in no way explicit or inappropriate, the characters felt real and their romantic journey was exactly what a reader looks for in a Christian Romance. I thought that both characters were beautifully written, with emotional depth and layers. There were some great minty moments but it was clearly defined that they respected each other’s personal boundaries. I loved the dynamic of how Dex had swagger and charm, but at the same time, loved Jesus and wanted the best for Millie. Overall, I really liked this book. I read it cover to cover in a few hours. It was a light, enjoyable, and refreshing read.
Welp. There's a giant tattoo in this book. Enough said. Read the book.
Ok, ok. That might sell me on it, but maybe not you. Fair enough. How about forced proximity, second chance, best friend's [step] brother, and enemies to lovers? Does that work for you? 'Cause that gives me allll the vibes.
Well. That and the giant tattoo!
PS: It's gonna be a series!
~I was given a complimentary copy of this book. No positive review was required, and all opinions are my own.~
All lolol the good stuff. Forced proximity, a touch of reverse grumpy sunshine, second chance romance, hockey player, faith......oh I loved it. What a great read.
*I read the new special edition pink cover with 236 pages (with bonus content and epilogue).
2.5 star - This was just okay for me, which is super disappointing since the new special edition pink cover is stunning! It was a little too lust-driven to be labeled as Christian fiction, in my opinion. There were mentions of prayer and God’s plan, but I felt like it was weird to have that mixed in with the type of romance in this book. I also didn’t super love the nickname Dex called Mille Jane. It wasn’t cute, it was rude. He also seemed a little arrogant and forward with her, if I’m being honest. I also don’t feel like either of these characters are ones I could root for or fall in love with. They were both pretty flawed without having the character development I thought they needed. Such a let down. 😫
Hart of Christmas by Latisha Sexton is my all-time favorite Christmas book 😍
It has all the banter you want between high school crush to enemies to lovers you want. Millie is so likable and relatable while Dex has all the swoon and sweetness you want in a cinnamon roll hero.
I loved the flashback scenes and watching their friendship unfold and the way their relationship transformed over time. They were just so much fun in so many ways.
Their kisses were sweet and tender and made me sigh and squeal in delight.
I just loved this book and ordered the paperback literally seconds after Latisha told me it was live 🤣
If you’re looking for a sweet, easy, Christmas read with Faith themes and characters you want to cheer for, Hart of Christmas needs to be at the top of your TBR. 🎄
This is such a perfect little Christmas read to squeeze in between the busyness! The perfect mix of second-chance, best friend’s brother, and snowed in.
Things I Loved: -Flashbacks -Little Lamb -“Did you turn into an old lady?” -Spider -Almost kiss -“Mills,” Dex whispers, his warm breath fanning against my face. “Were you thinking about kissing me?” “Oh, shut up,” I reply, then close the distance between us. -Gram -Fluffy -Sweetest ending & epilogue
This was my first read by Latisha and it will definitely not be my last. I loved how naturally Christianity was woven in, and the character arcs were done so well with forgiveness and perspective shifts, especially considering the short length. If you’re looking for a bantery, heartwarming, fun, and swoony Christmas read—grab this book!
Sweet, easy read with a blizzard and a good amount of Christmassy cheer. I liked the faith element and the ending.
I didn’t like the emphasis on physical attraction (though I guess it makes more sense with some history vs. people just getting to know each other?). I just don’t care to read about how sexy some dude’s forearms or whatever are.
ALSO I am begging authors to stop pretending mediocre poetry is breathtaking. Sorry I said it.
Needed more Gram and Fluffy and less boundary-pushing and "low voice" to be an absolute favorite, but I enjoyed it and think I found a new favorite trope (forced proximity). 😉 The cover is adorrrrrable, and Millie Jane's character arc was a highlight. 🤍
And it has all the Christmas-y feels!
CW: lots of physical attraction, a male is shirtless during one scene.
This is such a great story! I loved the banter and the flashbacks. This book was fun to read, and I’m so glad I picked it up today. Can’t wait for more in this series!
Christmas books are my favorite, and this one is right there at the top of my list. And how cute is that cover?! Even though this was a novella, the author was able to fit so much into this story. It didn't feel rushed at all. The characters were great, and I loved the banter between them. And oh, the spider scene was hilarious. I really liked the Christmas activities and the hymns were beautiful. I highly recommend this book to put you in the Christmas mood.
Wow! I did not expect to love this book as much as I did! I loved that this book included the character’s faith and I will definitely be reading the rest of the series. Overall, a great read!
my life is completely over. it's ruined. i will never have the love of my dreams. my standards are way too high. and these gosh darn book men are the problem.
i do realize it is march and i read a christmas book. and i'm so glad i did.
↬ writing I was actually really happy with the writing style. i thought it was great and very captivating. I'm a lover of short chapters, I just feel like I read way more. i do feel like there could've been more decription. there was a lot of dialogue which is grat but i wanted more description and being in the characters heads a little more.
↬ plot yes yes yes. i totally loved it. it was so cute and christmassy and just everything a girl could want lol. i loved the back and froth betwen present time and their hgihschool years. it added so much more than if we had just been told about it. dual pov is one of my favorite things honestly. i love hearing what is going on in our mmc head too. and this was done reall well.
↬ characters
millie- was so cute. i don't really have a problem with her. i could see myself in her too which i think helped. she was a little bratty in the beginning towards dex. but she was better after she got chastised lol. i wish we'd gotten to see more of her music side of things. we were always seeing her with dex. which don't get me wrong was great but i wanted to see a little of her life wo him.
dex husband. we're in love. the end of the book did not happen cause he's mine. he was literally just too good. i love the sarcsm and how deeply smitten he was by her...ugh just stop. they're adorable. i could never steal him.but no he was so sweet and just everything. like millie i wish we had seen more of his life as a hockey player.
↬ romance of my dreams. no joke i want this. but it's fine i know i'll never have it. they were perfect for each other. i loved the second chance that was so cute. and it was done right. their banter was *chefs kiss*.
i hate that this book was so short i could have read about them for forever. will definitely be coming back for more when it's actually christmas time hehe.
This is a sweet and clever second-chance romance with plenty of playful banter between discouraged country singer Millie and broken-legged hockey player Dex. It's just the right length for a Christmastime read, and packs a few surprises! (The spider scene did it for me, what a riot!) Thank you, Latisha Sexton for this light-hearted read!
I love Millie and Dex's chemistry and bantering. I so appreciate their mutual love for her friend and his step-sister as a reason to forgive. Dex's relationship with Millie's grandma is hilarious, as is Dex and Millie's forced togetherness. Beautiful ending.
This was such a cute story! I loved the setup of high school crushes reuniting and being forced to stay together in a cabin and face what happened. Dex was so adorable and I loved his nickname for Millie. And I liked how they confronted what happened and realized how they had both made mistakes. Overall, I great start to this series and I am excited for it to continue.
Snowed in enemies to lovers -- I had an idea of what to expect -- but this one was deeper, cuter and sweeter than expected.
This second chance romance has a lot of depth and Millie and Dex have incredible baggage to work through. The flashbacks to their high school years were incredibly insightful and added greatly to the story.
I loved the faith elements of her writing! It was beautifully woven throughout, but not the focal point of the story.
This was my first book by Latisha Sexton and it will not be my last!!!!
This was such a charming book! I loved the faith elements. They were realistic and honest and they didn’t feel forced or cheesy. I loved the banter and witty comebacks. I loved the friendship between Beth and Millie Jane. And I loved watching the relationship between Millie Jane and Dex grow and develop. So many swoony and sweet moments! I’m now looking forward to the other books in this multi author series, so be sure to keep an eye out for those!
