Sarah Matey was raised among the unending green of the Pacific Northwest and spent her childhood riding horses, exploring the woods with her orange cat Dale, and writing stories. Today, she can be found fending off the soul-crushing drudgery of adult responsibilities with a pen in one hand, a guitar in the other, and Dale ever at her side; still resident of the PNW, married to the love of her life, and forever enchanted by storytelling.

Moving, gripping, and unforgettable, Sarah Ashley Martin's debut novel will only leave you craving more.
Prince of Glass is an incredible story that will have readers on the edge of their seat until the last page & beyond! This captivating adventure follows the journeys of four vastly different characters as the world around them falls to ruin.
This riveting book follows the journey of Vasily Mureil, a man desperate to avenge his father and protect his family, Taein Glass, a chaotic thief running from a past that torments him, Vince, a massive thug with an equally massive heart, and June, a child who discovers a crushing secret that will shatter her life.
Packed with raw emotion, Prince of Glass is a deeply moving journey that explores the effects of pain, honor, regret, deep hatred, and revenge on the soul. This story is for readers who love plot twists and are looking for a heartwarming rollercoaster of an adventure.
Study the cover of Prince of Glass. The writing is this exact aesthetic; dark, attractive, curious, detailed. If you're a fan of Leigh Bardugo, Tolkien, or Donita K. Paul, you must read this book. Martin spins an intricate story that kept me up late into the night, something that a book hasn't accomplished in a long while. She's woven an epic fantasy with characters that almost force you into rooting for them, backstories that grip you, and action that nearly made me throw the book across the room (because: no spoilers, but it was intense.)
And when you finish, you will most likely await the next book in The Dance of Thorn & Ash cycle with an equal mix of fear and excitement.
Full of beautiful writing and captivating characters that entice you slowly, then suddenly into a whirlwind quest, "Prince of Glass" is MUST for any book lover's repertoire! This book details the back-and-forth struggle between right and wrong, anger and forgiveness, and cowardliness vs bravery.
The best part of this book are its characters. You will fall in love with Taein and the relationship he shares with June. The story is refreshing and avoids all the basic clichés you tend to find in books like these. It's a long read you will speed through! Cannot WAIT for the next book in the series!!
I was excited to read this book because I saw the author via instagram and thought this book sounded epic and it is epic and I enjoyed it, but I do have beef with it and therefore am so very confused at what to rate it.
This review will be messy and spoiler-y.
You have been warned. . . . COME ON. It ended on a cliffhanger?! 😭 BUT. Auuuuuuuug. I NEED TO KNOW IF VINCE AND THE OTHER TWO LIVED. I DON'T CARE THAT VASILY LIVED 😂. I mean, I do a little bit but not really but maybe? Ahhhhh. No, he is a jerk! I want the others not him!
A point I didn't like: -Language: There are so. So. So. many bad words. 1/8th of the book would have been as many as I have ever read/listened to or probably heard (although I work at a little Wal-Mart so idk). I saw on the amazon listing that there would be bad words, but I didn't believe it. I should have. 😭 I mean, I do like the book, it is just, I do not like bad words and I didn't expect it like this. It really bothers me. I think it was really unnecessary. -the bad words are modern (except for shanked and a different word for one of the gods). I wish they were all fantasy language words so that I could shrug it off as not really, actuaaaally being bad. -one of the gods, theeee god, has a name and used wrongly a lot like actually saying this gods name and dangit (but not dangit) and I am 98 percent sure this god represents our God, so it bothers me that it is used.
Three points I liked: -Feels I am still trying to figure out what it is... the action? The emotions? The word choice? I felt feels and my heart raced while reading it. I was able to think creatively after reading bits so it filled up my creative well which means I must have really enjoyed it! :D -Worldbuilding I was confused at first (while thinking it was cool) but as I turned the pages, I think I get it and 🖒😮🖒 and it is still cool. The world feels alive. It has history. It has a future (maybe). It felt like what Eragon should have felt like. Eragon had the cool, quest, epic worldbuilding but most of the time it lacked the feels (which Prince of Glass has). -Bad (good looking 😉) young man starts on the path of goodness while protecting an innocent kid. If you want to give me feels, I guess THAT is the way to do it.
One point I didn't like: -Badness This book had a lot of being bad in it. Characters talking about wanting drugs. Flashbacks to having had that drug and being wasted. Killing innocent people (bro, why did you kill the guards? They uuuug.) And idk I saw the darkness (Vince a henchman guy is basically the only pure character by the way) and I guess I didn't like as much how morally dark everyone was? I also was hoping for the other side of things: I am pretty confident that the god who created things in that world is a good god, but it hasn't really come up. Maybe in the next book? I don't want the characters to be rescued out of life threatening situations by said god, but I wanted hope and goodness because there is something more. Anyway.
Point I like: -Vincent (Vince) You sir. ❤ That is all. Think scary, tall, buff henchman with tattoos and rings to beat the crap out of you. Now think morally good, loves music and composing, takes care of little girl kinda guy. Yeah he cool.
Random eh point: I kinda wish that Taen (is that how to spell his name?), June and Vasily had different reactions to loss instead of all being angry and wanting revenge or anger and burying it inside, but it was interesting.
I am uncertain if I will read book 2 because of the content even though I really want to follow these characters and see what happens.
Who should read it: do you like violence, fantasy and are not bothered by a lot of language (this book is calling your name).

A harrowing, hauntingly beautiful, and poignant epic journey... I had the absolute pleasure of being a beta reader for the remastered edition and this is a book you can't miss if you love gritty, grimdark fantasy or masterfully written morally grey antiheroes. This gripping tale will stay with you in the corners of your mind long after you turn the last page. Rich worldbuilding and vivid descriptions will capture all of your senses and the deeply broken, flawed characters will pull on your heartstrings. This moving, unforgettable novel will leave you waiting for the next book in the series with excitement (and probably some fear, too).
Prince of Glass is a hauntingly epic journey with well written oh so human characters. Deeply flawed broken characters struggling to find redemption, or cast all hope aside plunging head first into the depths of their own dark struggles.
It reads much faster than the size and will keep you turning pages. Well worth the read.
For a debut novel, I am so impressed! Matey is obviously a naturally gifted writer and storyteller. This book is a whirlwind of suspense, emotion and action. It is deep and thoughtful. The look Matey gives into each character’s mind really draws you into them on a personal level. There is clearly a lot more to the story unfolding. I need the second book NOW!
When I tell you Matey writes like a god, I mean she writes like a GOD.
I had the absolute pleasure of beta reading for this edition, and this is an epic fantasy you just can’t miss. I flew through it, which is impressive because it’s a MONSTER of a book, and the pacing pulled me through incredibly quickly.
The character work in this book is on a level I haven’t seen from anyone other than Brandon Sanderson and Stephen King.
Easily ranking up there as one of those hidden gems that needs WAY more attention than it's getting! This is a beautifully written, adventure-packed masterpiece of exceptional world-building that I can't wait to continue with the sequel!
