Rate this book

Bound by honor and devoted to his country, dashing lieutenant Adam Sinclair readily agreed to help Princess Isabel Stanbury carry out her brilliant plan to rescue her father, the missing King Michael. But he hadn't counted on the feelings that accompanied a reunion with the only woman he'd ever loved—or that posing as a married couple would feel so...right. Adam knew the country was depending on their ability to rescue the beloved king, but was he capable of resisting his traitorous heart?

Almost 3. Fine. I think it suffered reading it immediately following The Princess's White Knight -- near same plot that ran the same course, which is fine and huzzah tropes, but lack enough deviation to have either be standout. Including the lasses and lads being so similar in both physical and disposition there's only minor distinctions.

Cassidy's prose is breezy and flows along easily.

Another thing noted in reading them back to back: how many times the leads pause to sense or smell or desire one another and then dismiss the torture as impossible. This is great to have a few times and can ratchet up the tension, but it seemed like it was every other page (paragraph) and had me skimming.

The intrigue doesn't ever quite add up, including that the leads don't seem to do much more than playact investigating in order to be in a bedroom together for a long time (same with the other title). Again -- fine. But for me that stops it at fine.

I feel unduly harsh. Enjoyable light reads. Certainly up to the task of a few hours spent with a promised HEA. But not a lot more going on than being told there's a plot conflict, being told there's an emotional conflict, having most of the resolution be explosive and convenient and somewhat off-page, to slide into an inevitable -- because they love one another from the start and without doubts just cardboard complications -- happy ending.

Kinda bland for such a dramatic story. I think the two main characters were just empty and didn't have much chemistry so you didn't feel compelled to keep reading about them. Skip, better royal romances out there.

Anspruchsvolle Literatur? Neee =)
