Aesops Fabeln
Die Tiere in den Fabeln Aesops reden so eitel und beschränkt daher wie manche Menschen und sind genauso gierig und stolz wie sie. Kein Wunder, denn dem antiken griechischen Dichter ging es nicht wirklich um Füchse, Frösche, Hunde oder Löwen. In seinen berühmten Fabeln nahm er vielmehr die Unarten und Schwächen seiner Mitmenschen aufs Korn. Die Geschichten sind vor rund 2500 Jahren entstanden und lesen sich doch wie Miniaturen über Leute, die wir zu kennen meinen.

He was born in London as one of 12 children. At the age of 18, he worked as a clerk at the Westminster Fire Office and began studying part-time at the Lambeth School of Art.
In 1892, he quit his job and started working for The Westminster Budget as a reporter and illustrator. His first book illustrations were published in 1893 in To the Other Side by Thomas Rhodes, but his first serious commission was in 1894 for The Dolly Dialogues, the collected sketches of Anthony Hope, who later went on to write The Prisoner of Zenda. Book illustrating then became Rackham's career for the rest of his life.
In 1903, he married Edyth Starkie, with whom he had one daughter, Barbara, in 1908. Rackham won a gold medal at the Milan International Exhibition in 1906 and another one at the Barcelona International Exposition in 1912. His works were included in numerous exhibitions, including one at the Louvre in Paris in 1914. Arthur Rackham died 1939 of cancer in his home in Limpsfield, Surrey.

Let's get nostalgic!
Who doesn’t know Aesop’s fables? I absolutely loved them as a kid. They were part of almost every fairy tale collection I owned, and picking this book up felt like stepping right back into that cozy, familiar world.
This edition really surprised me in the best way. It 𝙞𝙣𝙘𝙡𝙪𝙙𝙚𝙨 𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙧 150 𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙨, far more than I expected. 𝙀𝙖𝙘𝙝 𝙛𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙞𝙨 𝙨𝙝𝙤𝙧𝙩 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙚𝙖𝙨𝙮 𝙩𝙤 𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙙. Some are just a few lines, others a few pages at most. Perfect bite-sized storytelling. 🤓
I recognized a handful of the tales, but most of them were new to me, which made the experience even more enjoyable. And honestly, I loved every single one. The nostalgia really hit.
Because the stories are so short, this is such a great in-between read. It is ideal for a quick coffee break or when you don’t want to commit to long chapters.
The illustrations are absolutely stunning. There are 80 𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙪𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 packed into this little book, and they add so much charm to the reading experience.

Zeit für ein bisschen Nostalgie!
Wer kennt sie nicht, die Fabeln von Aesop? Ich habe sie als Kind geliebt. Sie waren Teil von fast jeder Märchensammlung, die ich hatte, und dieses Buch aufzuschlagen hat sich angefühlt wie eine kleine Reise zurück in diese vertraute, gemütliche Welt.
Diese Ausgabe hat mich wirklich positiv überrascht. Sie enthält über 150 Geschichten, viel mehr als ich erwartet hatte. Jede Fabel ist kurz und leicht zu lesen. Manche bestehen nur aus ein paar Zeilen, andere sind ein paar Seiten lang. Perfektes, kleines Lesevergnügen für zwischendurch.
Einige der Geschichten kannte ich schon, aber die meisten waren neu für mich, was das Ganze noch schöner gemacht hat. Und ehrlich gesagt habe ich jede einzelne genossen. Der Nostalgiefaktor ist hier auf jeden Fall hoch.
Gerade weil die Geschichten so kurz sind, eignet sich das Buch perfekt als Lektüre für zwischendurch. Ideal für eine kleine Kaffeepause oder wenn man keine langen Kapitel lesen möchte.
