Could her twin sister, a decorated police officer, be a criminal mastermind?
When Travel nurse Michelle Blackburn’s twin has been murdered, she comes back to her hometown to find her killer. Things quickly turn complicated when she comes face to face with the man who shattered her heart.
Detective Aiden St. James is determined to solve Anne Blackburn’s murder, but too much about this case doesn’t add up. The Westview PD has had their hands full with a local drug ring and a new lead makes Anne their prime suspect. But Michelle is certain her twin wasn’t a criminal.
After someone attempts to kidnap Michelle, Aiden realizes she could be right about Anne being framed and vows to keep her safe for old times' sake. Forced to accept the help and protection of the last person she feels she can trust, Michelle is determined to bring her sister's killer to justice, while discovering the importance of letting go of the past and understanding God's timing.
This was a great suspense read. Michelle Blackburn returns to town because her twin sister Anne has been murdered. Evidence suggests that Anne is the police's prime suspect regarding a local drug ring. Detective Aiden St. James, Michelle's ex-boyfriend, encounters Michelle when she first arrives in town and rescues her when someone tries to kidnap her. Aiden and Michelle must work together to solve the case, find Anne's killer, and prove Anne's innocence. A Nurse's Revenge was a fast-paced, action-packed story with twists and turns, surprises, betrayal, and secrets. I received a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
It may sound bad to say at the beginning of the review that I didn't like the dead twin very much. You have to read the book, but what she did to Aiden and Michelle....ugh.
But I really liked Aiden and Michelle. Though each blamed the other for their breakup eight years before, they were still civil to each other and worked well together trying to prove her sister's innocence.
The book had a good plot, likable characters, and plenty of suspense. I admit I was surprised at the identity of the bad guy, but I did figure out the baby angle. And I admit to be somewhat proud of myself for that. 😎
And this is an author who weaves a Christian message through the story.
I have read a few books by this author, and really enjoyed them. This one may be the best one that she has written of the ones I have read. It is a book that I had a hard time putting down, and read until the ending.....which was a great ending.
I am looking forward to reading more in this series, and reading more from this author.
Special thanks to the author for a review copy of this book. I was under no obligation to provide a review and the thoughts contained herein are my own.
It was a quick read. From the start it was evident that things didn’t line up. A cop leaving a witness he’s supposed to protect and not getting fired for it? What about the suspicious police chief? Or the mole in the precinct if the chief was the only one to know the whereabouts? And how about the K-9 dog finding the nurse after sniffing her cell phone and finding her an undetermined number of miles away? Do K-9s find miracle trails when it’s obvious that the nurse was kidnapped and taken by vehicle? It would have been more realistic to track the kidnappers cell phone since his identity was known. Also what was the motive of the twin sister to the nurse for causing division between the nurse and her boyfriend? There was a lot that didn’t make any sense. Way too many holes to make this a good book. The basic story line was good, but it should have been thought out and executed better to fill in the gaps.
Despite the intriguing storyline, this book was disappointing because of the multiple typos and grammatical errors. In places like verbiage was nonsensical. There was a desperate need for some serious editing! This made it a frustrating read, and I will probably not bother with another book by the same author. I was interested because I'm a retired RN, but not interested enough to give this author another chance. 0
3 stars ⭐️ I randomly grabbed this at the library book sale. I found it cute, but not great. There were quite a few typos / grammatical errors, and I found many of the characters’ emotions repeated numerous times throughout the book 😬 This book was only 184 pages long, and I felt like not many descriptions or details were put in. This has the potential to be really good. This copy is signed too, so that’s cool!
Seeking the truth for traveling nurse Michelle Blackburn became as necessary as breathing, just like her dream of caring for and helping others. Yet, while the grief of her twin sister’s death brought her to her hometown seeking answers, she realizes that she needs the truth of the past to be set free. At the worst possible time, her past and her present collide in the form of the man who ended her dreams so many years ago. A man who ended her girlish dreams and followed in his family’s footsteps to serve and protect – Detective Aiden St. James. As I read this book, it answered all the five W’s of my journalistic, questioning heart – who, what, when, where, and finally why. While Michelle’s young heart had been broken into bits and pieces when her teenage love didn’t prevent her from leaving her hometown all those years ago, she wanted to have a future. She never managed to figure out the truth and fight for her future, Michelle only thought that she was unlovable because of the neglect in her early years. She had instinctively let the hurt and pain of moving forward alone cloud her judgement, so she faced years alone without her true love – and only the constant contact with her sister kept her heart from completely breaking apart. Once again, only the half-truth surfaces as the facts of the murder of Michelle’s twin, Anne, become known. While answers are sought amidst the attempted kidnappings of Michelle and murderous plots that occurred, the fear and danger become raw edged in their senses. The closer they get to the truth; the more attempts are made to end their lives. As the danger escalated, Michelle and Aiden sought justice and the answers that could lay the past to rest, once and for all while safety returned to their city. In bits and pieces, Michelle learns the truth that would have prevented her running away so long ago. She realizes that little lies were told and her innocence at accepting them were the reason she ran so long ago. Now, with the truth told and an end in sight to the danger, what Michelle intends is to hold onto the future and be forgiving of the past. The love and all the emotions that she and Aiden had once held firmly in their hearts had never died, they only strengthened with this criminally charged situation. Reading this book, I loved that Rebecca Hemlock used her words to draw you into this plot, thickening it with love, danger and an explosive truth that needs to be set free. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and give it a 4 out of 5 stars!
