I've had the pleasure of also listening to Timothy enthusiastically talk about his career and the book at a book club at work, and listening to him speak is a treat.
Skyscraper offers a meticulously structured framework for transforming a job into a fulfilling career, using the metaphor of building a skyscraper to guide readers through phases of self-assessment, networking, and goal-setting.
The book is rich with actionable insights, from the importance of cultivating professional relationships and maintaining a strong LinkedIn presence to the power of setting C.L.E.A.R. goals.
Timothy emphasizes the value of brevity, clarity, and purpose in communication, as well as the necessity of giving back to the community to achieve deeper career fulfillment. With practical strategies like crafting a “Hello Slide” for impactful introductions and conducting regular career health checks, Skyscraper equips professionals at all stages with tools to navigate the complexities of career growth. This book is an essential read for anyone seeking to build not just a career, but a legacy of personal and professional excellence.
The only minor criticism I have is that a couple of times I got the impression that he appears mainly focused on building connections with senior executives, but does not talk enough about connections with ordinary people or those in lower positions in order to uplift them. Nevertheless, this book is a solid 5 stars in my opinion
