Perfect for those who love crime thrillers with a good and decent main character — noble friends — action — clean language — no graphic sex — a little romance — and an undertone of faith from a Christian worldview.
Investigating an assault on a young woman, a Montana county sheriff uncovers a more heinous wrongdoing, proving once more that the coverup is often worse than the crime.
45-year-old Big Sky County Sheriff Wade Lockhart is called to a seedy motel, where a woman was found unconscious and bleeding from the head. His only clues to solving the crime are...
Early morning vacuuming.
Two men getting into a pickup truck.
Not much to go on.
But a call from one of his deputies sends Lockhart to a local bar and ultimately to the doorstep of his long-time nemesis, a man who's also a well-known and powerful Big Sky County commissioner.
Entertaining crime thriller — in a modern-day country setting — featuring a no-nonsense sheriff, beautiful scenery, and fast-paced action.

The only thing this book and the Longmire series have in common is they are both set in the West. The writing in this book needs a lot of help. I like a descriptive phrase as much as the next but I don't need to know his hat had a buckle or what kind of specific ammo he was using. As for the "tick" in the book, I kept waiting for a bomb to go off! I think I'm a experienced enough reader to know when a character is pausing in his dialog. The story line was good I couldn't wait to be finished. The ending was predictable . Also, I doubt the writer has ever been to Montana. I got the impression the author just looked at a map. The Rocky Mountain front is not in south central Montana. Write what you know!
I nearly gave up just a few chapters into “Big Sky”. The writing style was leaden and flat:- “Drawing his satin-finished, stainless-steel Ruger, featuring a 4.2-inch barrel, Hogue Monogrip, half underlug, and adjustable rear sights” “Having parked his Jeep in the back lot, Lockhart now punched in his security code on the keypad beside a gray metal door. Off to his left, on the other side of a stainless-steel, four-inch-diameter tubular guard rail, a double-wide roll-up door sat closed at the base of a concrete ramp that led to the basement.” “Touting long blonde hair pulled up into a messy bun, Bristol Mackenzie wore light-red rectangular eyeglasses, ones that matched the red ribbon holding her hair in place. A white blouse, sleeves rolled to elbows, black jeans, and red faux snakeskin square-toed cowboy boots completed her ensemble.” “At 39-years-old, the five-five, buck-ten newcomer had an inverted triangle-shaped body - broad shoulders, small hips, and slender legs. With an off-center part, her medium-length wavy blonde hair fell just below her collarbone.” It also didn't help that the author promotes the book as containing “no vulgarity and no graphic sex scenes.” Oh, and Jesus features regularly, though not being particularly useful in my opinion. But I digress. I did keep reading and and the story, concerning one dead woman and another kidnapped female, was strong and well told. It also helped that there was a K9 involved (I'm a sucker for them!) It has a sappy but satisfying ending. 3 Stars.
He builds his character very well and the two main characters have interesting backstories. There is really no world building except to saying that it takes place in a western state. But, you get the feeling the author was paid by the word. He wastes many words describing things; brand names and colors of things and other descriptive words that add nothing to the story. Those words would be better used in describing the locale and other aspects of the area.
I’ll buy another one and see if the word counts go down and the world building is more in depth.
I liked the characters and the story line. It left me with a good feeling. I enjoyed the development of the story and would enjoy another adventure with the two characters.
Even if I could guess the ending the adventure was a day’s entertainment, thanks. I always enjoy a book more that doesn’t take up space with four letter curses, to add to the word count. Look forward to another book by Alex Andre.
