Dandelion wishes. Grains of sand. Shooting stars. Butterfly kisses.
Murder and mothballs. Carnage and blood.
Black leather gloves and too many lilies.
Time can swallow her whole, and it’s almost up.
WELLS
She’s my mission. My prize. My obsession. Ivy Kingston is the most wanted woman in the world for reasons she is completely oblivious to, reasons I intend to capitalize on. She needs a husband to receive her inheritance, so I’m on the hunt for a wife. As long as it’s her. I’m not who she thinks I am. But she has no idea who she really is either. I’ll be her groom. Her keeper. Her lover. And quite possibly her demise.
IVY
People often underestimate me.
They shouldn’t.
Gavin Wells is dreamy and delicious. Dark and mysterious. His world is exactly where I want to be.
But he’s got me in a choke hold of smoke and mirrors.
Someone should have warned him that burning ivy releases toxic spores.
Because I’m the spark who can reduce him to ashes.
When I started reading this book, I thought I knew what to expect. It started like a slow burn with a marriage of convenience trope... and then, you guys, YOU MUST READ THIS.
It's hard to believe this is the author's debut novel, the writing is amazing, it just pulls you into the story and the characters are as complex as the plot. Wow! ____________________ Follow me ♡ Instagram Facebook
Absolutely blown away!! There were so many twists and turns to this Mafia romance.. I can’t believe this was the author’s debut novel! It completely captivated me & I can’t wait to continue the series.
Tropes: - Dark/Mafia Romance - Romantic Suspense - Marriage of Convenience - Age Gap (9 yrs) - Hidden Identity - Secret Society - Forced Proximity - Virgin FMC - Possessive MMC - Boy Obsessed - Touch Her & 💀 - Found Family - Praise
The first encounter between Ivy and Wells made zero sense to me. Since when do ppl talk about their family situations and marriage contracts to random strangers you bump into on the road?🙄 And since when do random men give nicknames like 'Little Storm' to random girls they bump into?🙄 And also she bumped into them on her way out which means the men were on their way IN but after talking to her they got into the car and drove away.
The fmc is dumb af and the mmc keeps applauding her for using 0.1% of her brain and asking him questions and I just CANNOT do it. BRING BACK REAL MAFIA BOOKS! BRING BACK REAL ARRANGED MARRIAGE BOOKS! The plot was predictable in some aspects. Like when Ivy mentioned her encounter with a 'masked man' when she was 18 in Chapter 1, it was pretty obvious it was mmc.
"Those big doe eyes, a darker blue here in the dim pub, shine so bright that they alone could guide lost sailors home." "Mine neither" "As I admitted, Wells, I’m not great at small talk, so I’m going to plunge us into the deep end and get to it."
Is it just me or does these dialogues not sound odd to you? Plus the plot is unnecessarily dragged out and the book is sooooo looongggg for no reason. DNF @22% because life is too short to waste on bad books.
I was not prepared for how great this debut novel was going to be. I absolutely loved all these characters and their relationships with each other. So good!
Ivanna (Ivy) has her life thrown off by a surprise development when she’s told she has to be married soon in order to actually get her inheritance. But really that’s just the tip of the iceberg. A chance encounter with a stranger leads to an impromptu engagement because she’s determined to have a say in her future instead of choosing from a list of potential suitors her mother has picked out. All while dealing with the devastating illness her father is facing.
Ivy never could have dreamed the family she would find with Wells and his friends - a new found family that feels like home almost immediately. She finds a connection with Wells through his dominating yet romantic and book loving ways. Fun movie talk with Ty who feels like a brother. Flirty banter and hacking with Liam. And she finds the way to grumpy Gage’s friendship through food and yummy baked goods.
While Ivy connects with Wells and the rest of her found family, secrets about her real family start coming to light. Dangerous people are after her for reasons she never could have imagined. Good thing she’s got a hot group of soldiers of her own now. But it turns out that this book loving, artistic woman with unique ways of thinking is a total badass in her own right.
Be prepared for a story of love and family, secrets and mysteries, danger and excitement, plus plenty of great spice mixed in. Oh and that trippy twist that will have you rethinking things right alongside Ivy. Such a great read! I can’t wait to read more from this new series. And if there ends up being a few spin offs I’m totally happy with that too.
Why is NO ONE talking about this book? I was hooked on this book immediately! It kept me guessing who exactly is Ivy and what was happening throughout the whole book. And the last 35%?!?! Talk about suspenseful!
Burning Ivy is the first book in the KORT series by Brandy Hynes. This is a dark mafia romantic suspense the follows Wells and Ivy. Ivy learns that she needs to be married before her 23rd birthday in order to obtain her inheritance. And the man who enters her life to fill those shoes is Gavin Wells. Ivy thinks they are meeting for the first time but in fact, Wells has been lurking in the shadows for the past 5 years. As Ivy discovers her true identity that was hidden from her since birth, she also uncovers secrets that vow to destroy her and those around her. So can Ivy rise above the ashes?

💭 My Thoughts: I love a book that keeps my mind constantly questioning what is next and if you are the same then this book is for you! I have never seen anyone talk about this book on social media and I believe it deserves far more attention. I received this book in a PR box from Wordsmith Publicity and I am so glad that I did because I ate this book up!
Now listen, I was hooked from the start and I see from other reviews that they felt the beginning was slow to start and get into. While I agree, I feel like it was necessary to get to the action. The beginning of the book gave you all of the clues to figure out who exactly is Ivy. There are so many breadcrumbs that eventually come to light further into the book. And personally I love that! I love from chapter one, I have 100's of questions with no answers. I had so many conspiracies and I loved being able to see those either be confirmed or squashed.
I loved Wells and Ivy. Wells is your typical touch her and die over the top jealous and possessive MMC that we love. And our girl Ivy, she's fierce, feisty and a forced to be wrecked with. I loved her personality. I loved her strength. I loved the dynamic she had with all of the men in this book. She's a strong FMC and it was so refreshing to see her come into this identity of hers that was hidden from birth. But then to see her burn the world down and flip the script of her "men" was the best moment for me in this book.
So if you love a dark mafia romantic suspense, I highly suggest you give this book a chance. I have recommended this book to many people and they all feel the same and have said this is one of their favorite books they have read so far this year.
“Anyone can be the light when the sun is shining. It takes a goddamn force to strike with a crash so bright that even the outlines of the raging clouds are illuminated.”
Ivy needs to be married before her 23rd birthday to receive her inheritance. She quite literally runs into Wells. I love how they instantly feel drawn to one another. As they come to an agreement and get married, things start to unravel, and it gets so good that I did not want to turn it off.
An arranged marriage with secrets getting revealed, the mafia, a secret society. And it's gets so steamy. Ivy is an absolute bad ass, I love her character. The narrators did an amazing job bringing this story to life. I'm going to need a Wells because he was 🔥
I never thought a debut novel would get me this obsessed, it usually takes a few books into the series for me to start developing unhinged feelings. But nope, the way Brandy Hynes world-built KORT, was OTHERWORLDLY , the found family trope in all its glory binded these characters in such a sweet way in complete contrast to what they actually represent. Carnage, brokenness, scarred and twisted souls.
The first Couple " Wells and Ivy ", with their unique arrangement and secrets that eventually was their glue.
The twists, the plot 🤯 MIND-BLOWING , LIFE ALTERING AND MEMORABLE. a book that stays with you. The tension, the chemistry, the way they were inevitable and meant to be. Everything was set to perfection. You are going to LOVE book1 , ADORE book2 and WAIT with your last breath for book3, This series is a whole package, the way these characters are. ❤️
this is by far one of my favorite reads, and I will die on this hill. If you are looking for something to suck you in , keep you tangled and asking for more, more books, and more of them.
🥀🖤 Now I'm just obsessively waiting for book 3 🫠🫠, with equal ANTICIPATION and expectations that I'm sure Brandy is going to meet and exceed . She's meant for greatness. 🥀🥀❤️❤️❤️ Thank you for sharing this brotherhood with us.

Audio: 4.5 stars for this duet!! Molly Stark and Sean Masters killed this narration. I would say there were times where the voices didn’t differentiate much, that is why it’s not a full 5 stars.
Book: 4.5 stars but rounding up
Wow for a debut book this was amazing! While at times the writing lost me, there were a lot of comparisons and descriptors that were very fancy (or at least compared to the other books I read hah) after I got used to it, it hooked me in!
Ivy (Little Storm) and Well 🥰❤️🔥
This has all the elements of a book I love: -found family, -strong female lead, -action and suspense, -touch and her die -morally grey male lead -secret society -and so much more
I cannot wait for the rest of the series!! I do at times wish this was a why choose romance haha when you read it you’ll see why! Haha
I don’t want to give too much a way, I honestly went in blind and that was the best decision.
I know the first three books are on audio, but the 4th book isn’t out yet, the release day is the 27th of this month and idk about the audio! But either way I can’t wait to read about the rest of the boys!
Omg i just finished Burning Ivy and wow! This book is everything. From the plot, the writing, the spice, the twist! I can’t believe I waited so long to read this.
Ok im lying i didnt read it, I listened to it. Dual narration means you don’t have the man voicing the female parts, thank goodness!! It was SO good. Im going to buy the next one now so I’ll be ready when the 3rd comes out.
What you’ll find: - Marriage of Convenience - Dark Romance - Found Family - He Falls First - Secrets Revealed - Mafia/Secret Society - Romantic Suspense
Ivanna “Ivy” Kingston has to get married to access her inheritance. This information is given to her when she has a couple of months left to make the marriage happen. Ivy is not dating anyone and has no prospects. When she runs into Gavin Wells, they come to a mutually beneficial agreement to get married. Ivy develops a great connection with Wells and his friends Liam, Ty, and Gage in their own unique ways. Unfortunately, secrets threaten to ruin the family that Ivy has found. As secrets are revealed, Ivy is forced to stand up for herself and show everyone why she is never to be underestimated.
Burning Ivy is a really good dark romantic suspense story. Was the story a little slower in the beginning? Yes. However, the buildup was necessary to prepare readers for the action. There are puzzle pieces that come together as the story progresses. About 60% into the story, things picked up significantly. There is tension, action, suspense, and mystery. I loved the characters. I loved how Ivy had special relationships with each guy. Ivy is a strong FMC, and I was rooting for her. It's important to remember that this is book one, so more will be revealed later. I have lots of questions and can't wait to get them answered. Don't give up on the story because the last half will have you on the edge of your seat, asking yourself what just happened. I was screaming and in disbelief at what was transpiring. I'm excited for the next book!
NARRATION: The narrators, Mollie Stark and Sean Masters, did an excellent job. They brought the characters to life. Sean did well with voicing four different men and showing each of their individual personalities. Mollie made me feel Ivy's emotions as she navigated all of the challenges that arose. I love duet-style narration, and this one was done well.
Thank you, Brandy Hynes and Wordsmith Publicity, for the e-ARC and ALC. Opinions expressed are my own.
If you like dark romance, you must read this book! Although this is Brandy Hines' first book, it is already a magnificent book, which really makes you want to read the sequel. From the beginning of the novel, I wanted to know more about the other characters. Whether it's Ivy's best friend or Wess's group. I can already tell you that I can't wait to read the next one, because I have a feeling it's going to be just as explosive.
In this first volume, we have dark romance, but also suspense and action. With each page, I needed to know what happened next.
Ivy is a badass character who knows very well what she wants. And she's willing to do anything to get what she wants. I really liked her best friend who was also ready to do anything for Ivy.
Wess, for his part, is the apha male par excellence. He wants to rule Ivy, but that doesn't work out with her.
The secondary characters, they are just as great and I can already tell you that I have my favorite. And I can't wait to know more about him.
Honestly, after reading this, all I wanted was to cook with Gage, talk about movies or series with Ty, spar with Wells and hug Liam.
A chance meeting appeared to solve Ivy's problem of having to marry someone of her choosing—not her mother—quickly to obtain her inheritance. Wells seems to be perfect and willing.
Though Wells was a bit vague in his profession—he finds people and "erases" those who are not good. Through a few awkward exchanges, they do seal the deal.
As Ivy and Wells's relationship progresses, other mysterious pieces unfold. And I was on pins and needles throughout the entirety of it! What I thought was going to be a story of a mafia/secret society arranged marriage with some schminky things going on ended up being so much more!
Don't get me wrong, the schmink is there. Wells does praise very well. Ivy shares that she wants to be dominated and be used, And Wells does that tapping thigh thing. My, my, my. But the sudden surge of the "What?!" moment takes "Burning Ivy" to the next level. This story is every bit of a romantic suspense that kept me on the edge, and I'm so eager for the rest of the series to continue.
I received a copy of this book and am leaving this review voluntarily.
This dark, steamy romance had me in the edge of my seats, holding on for dear life the entire read. I love a good mafia, secret society, and steamy hot book, but this one gave me so much more. The danger that lurked around every corner had twist and turns that left the mysteries coming into the light. Oh man, what an amazing read.
Ivy needs to marry in order to get her inheritance. She wants to marry who she chooses. Not off of a list her mother has made. A chance encounter leaves her engaged and married to Gavin Wells, or Wells. She not only gains the mysterious Wells but also his group of brothers (Ty, Liam, and Gage). Ivy hit the mother load of hotness men. Even though she is only with Wells, this found family was perfect. The banter, protecting, and care that comes with these men had me excited on a new level for their own books to come.
Ivy is one smart, badass woman. She's confident in herself, but fiesty when needed. She knows what she wants, and she goes after it. She wants to be dominated by Wells, and boy is she. His praises are hot and the whole tapping on her thigh.... why is that so hot🔥🥵 He gives Ivy what she needs and craves. This book was not lacking in the hot, passionate steam. Seeing her become this badass she didn't know she needed to be was amazing.
Wells cares deeply for Ivy, but the mystery that surrounds him gave the book more depth. His alpha rule was perfect. He wants to rule Ivy. Even though she is willing to let him dominate her sexually, ruling her live isn't going to happen. But at times needed. He is an eraser. He gets rid of people's who do bad. Him and his brothers. Ivy has so many dangers lurking around because of her family, and for good reasons. The secrets about her real family come to light, but it's a good thing she has her protecters. The mystery of who everyone is and how they are all connected was a twist I want expecting.
This book was pretty lengthy and had a little repetitiveness in the first half. That's the only reason I rated it the way I did. Other than that, it was spot on. Giving me things I didn't know I needed in a great book. Pick this book up! It's not just another mafia book. The suspense and mystery that lies within its covers are so much more. I can't wait to see what this author has in store for the next character in this series.
I received this as an Advance Readers Copy, and this is my honest opinion. This isn't your normal dark mafia romance. Read it!

- I thought I’d like this but idk. She is WAYYYY too trusting of a stranger. Wth. How about doing a background check!??!? A stranger tells you he’s in dangerous work and you just shrug and move in with him 2 days later??? You don’t introduce your mom to him? Your mom just leaves without wanting to meet him?? - stranger you met 2 days ago and you proposed too says you’re never gonna be able to go outside without one of the guys and you’re just… fine with it??? GIRL WHAT. - sounds like ryke and mercy are gonna be a book - she ain’t no ball breaker. She’s STUPID - I don’t understand why all the guys like her and willing to disappear if that’s what she wants. It’s only been a few months??? - this girl really forgot all about her mom and friend and her passion for painting. - forgot all about why SHE married HIM. What about the inheritance girl??? It’s been 3 months. - I hate that Liam is interested in her. Thank god she pushed him away immediately. No lingering - well well. Interesting twist - ooooo is this her trial? I think so. I’d like to think her mom ISNT a bad guy and has to do this for her trial - this should have been an RH. The way she’s so close to the other guys(more than she is with Celeste) and the way they talk about her and feel about her makes this an RH to me. - I don’t understand her rage against wells. What did i miss? Why did her feelings flip? Because she thinks he gave her up for a seat? She really believes that? - No seriously. The way the guys worship her. This should have been a RH. Why wasn’t it? - definitely RH. Sure she only had sex with wells but the “romance” was happening with all of them imo. Not like her interactions with wells was different than the others - SEE EVEN SHE SAYS THE ONLY DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HER RELATIONSHIP WITH WELLS AND THE OTHER GUYS IS SEX. She worships them all and would die for them all but she only has sex with wells. Sounds like a RH to me.
I had too many issues with the beginning and then the pseudo RH to enjoy this the way I should have.

Holy Cow… This book!!! One of the best dark romance/organized crime books I’ve ever read. This review will contain a lot of spoilers it’s mostly a summary of my favorite parts to remember.
This story was absolutely incredible!! I didn’t see so many twist and turns happening!! Wells having a relationship with her dad and having his approval before his stroke made this story even better!!
these guys!!! Former navy seals who had lost their families they are legally “dead” and given new identities by the FBI/CIA and are known as erasers. Liam’s book is next but I’m also looking forward to Ty’s and Gages. I think gages story will be the toughest I think he was hurt by a woman. Also I’m so happy in the end they move near New Orleans and we get to see Rena and her brothers (the Noire family) after Ryker helped Ivy I loved them and their crazy exclusive club!!! I hope they all get books but I really hope Rena and Ty are end game!!
There was no OWD. He hasn’t been with anyone in years she’s a virgin.
Major spoilers:
The third act problem was a part of her loyalty test and Liam does kiss her in the car but she says she loves him he’s her family but Wells is her only guy.

DNF If I could then I WOULD give it 0 stars im so riled up rn if I had this book in my hands I'd burn it whole
This book was MAYBE around 3 stars up until 60% But THEN THE UNNECESSARY OTHER MAN DRAMA?? FROM THE SAME DAMN FAMILY? DIS-GUSTING. I DON'T TRUST Y"ALL WHO'RE GIVING THIS 4-5 STARS🤡🤡🤡🤡 I have never read something so ridiculous coming from an author, She EXPLICITLY said "THIS IS NOT WHY CHOOSE" AND THEN proceeds to write how all the men(who have their own books btw) are having crush on her and drooling over her and one of them proceeds to kiss her out of no where and telling her that it hurts him to see her fall for his almost brother(WHO IS THE HUSBAND BTW) AT 60% IN THE BOOK??? 🤡🤡🤡🤡 And THOSE LONG ASS CHAPTERS? WHO EVEN ALLOWS THAT?? BITCH WHAT WRITING 14-15 PAGES IN SINGLE CHAPTER WHEN CLEARLY WHATEVER YOU'VE TO SAY IS BULLSHIT AT THIS POINT. I AM NEVER READING THIS AUTHOR AGAIN
I think this might be my first time reading a book where the heroine got a boob job. It didn’t bother me just wanted to point it out because usually when the h got small boobs they just accepted it lol.
This got slow burn vibe for me, not on the romance part but it was certainly a long book. 400s pages I believe. I wasn’t in the mood for a long book. It got a bit draggy too, the suspense were too long for me lol. I got desperate and impatient so I dnfed it. Sorry it was 100% me and not the book.

Yall better buckle up because this book had my wheels turning the ENTIRE time! A HUGE thank you to Wordsmith for sending me this copy. They really KNOW me and have sent me amazing books that I've become obsessed with. So basically, Ivy is my entire personality at this point.
I literally couldn't put this book down and Kayla had to listen to my entire play by plays. haha I am completely and utterly blown away by this book. The intricacies of this story line kept me on my toes and coming up with the most outlandish theories possible...and I'd like to think that I nailed some of them! haha I also cried a wee bit which is always a sign of a well written book.
What you will get: -Dark romance -Arranged/marriage of convenience -Nod to mafia -Secret Society -Spicy
I HIGHLY recommend you stop what you're doing and go pick this up. You can thank me later! And thank you Brandy for giving us this world to get lost in! I cannot wait for book 2!
Dark romance for the win! A perfect weekend read. This story has it all, action, suspense, mystery, and of course romance. It doesn’t skimp on the spicy! The character development had me invested in the story from the very first chapter. Mystery and suspense kept me on the edge of my seat and I couldn’t put it down. I’m glad it’s a series! The plot is intriguing with a cool perspective as it’s written with both main character’s points of view. It didn’t focus too much on romance and neglect the plot the way some romance novels do. Ivy is deep, a strong female lead with elegance, grace and spunk. If you like a good mystery you’ll love this book. And if you like a romance novel you’re in for a treat.

"You are no one's passenger, Ivy. you're the destination."
Wells was a goner from the start, totally obsessed with her in the best way. I loved how he was both hard and soft, so sweet yet dominant gosh his filthy mouth is everything even when there's no dirty words coming out of it.
Ivy was an absolute force, strong, fierce, and so damn funny. I couldn’t stop laughing when she gave the guys her sharp comebacks.
"You're a goddamn miracle, Little Storm. So perfect."
I really enjoyed how everything from the first few chapters tied back together later on, and as the secrets unraveled, I couldn’t stop reading.
Wells being jealous of how close Liam was to Ivy was such a great touch (and I think he had a point).
I’m dying to read Ty and Gage’s books. That plot twist had me yelling for a solid ten minutes, totally shook. The mix of anger and sadness watching Ivy break was intense, but it all came together so perfectly in the end.
Thanks to bookfetish8 for buddy reading with me, I had a lot of fun sharing my thoughts with you! And of course, I wouldn’t have picked up this book without Bookaholic Shaima her recommendations never cease to amaze me.
Such a masterful piece of work that has now been added to my list of top reads this year. Brandy Hynes delivered a novel that is both equally poetic and powerful, and I will rave about it!!
At the start of the novel, Ivanna - our FMC - learns she must marry to secure her inheritance. Cue a “chance” encounter with Wells, and you have a beginning that just barely scratches the surface. Brandy’s writing style pulls you in and keeps you reading effortlessly. There is a bit of mystery surrounding Ivy and Wells and their undeniable connection - but the piecing together is seamless in its delivery, and the romance gives all the swoon. Even without it though, I think this story would still be absolutely addictive.
Ivy is a bada*s in her own right, and as she finds herself surrounded by 4 equally bada*s men (NOT in the reverse harem type of way) - the story unfolds in all its dark mafia glory. Romantic suspense in the best form, emotional turmoil of the best kind… Twists, turns, romance, drama, and allll the angst, this book will have you in a complete chokehold. I loved every bit of it, and CANNOT WAIT for the next in the series. Brandy Hynes knocked it out of the park.
Oh wow, this book had me anxious and I couldn’t put it down. From the beginning learning about Ivanna life and how it suddenly turned upside down to something she was not expecting. Changing her life because of her current situation. Seeing her grow from having everything in her life to learning new ways of living. Finding herself in ways I didn’t expect her to. Seeing the other characters Ty, Liam, Gage and of course our jealous and possessive MMC Gavin Wells. I love how he’s like touch her and die attitude. There love for one another and how they all became one big family was amazing. I definitely felt all the feels with this book and life really does throw you curve balls and it’s how you handle it that shows your true strengths. They were the teachers and suddenly felt like they were the students. Students end up being better than the teachers right? This dark mafia romance was everything I needed and more!
I leave you with this quote “You, little storm. I was waiting for you. Sometimes, storms come to decimate everything we seemed important. Other times, they come to clear our paths. You changed everything, Ivanna. Turned it all upside down. The moment I saw you, I knew I was lost to whatever path you carved for me. “ Wells
A little too long and I almost lost interest before the 50% mark. Most of it is descriptive language of whatever is going on inside Ivy’s head and sometimes it’s just goes on and on without much direction. I skipped parts of it when I felt myself falling asleep. It ebbs and flows the last half but I never really got into the plot. I love Liam and can’t wait for his story. Ty also and I’d love to know more about Gage’s backstory. Not too sure about Wells. He never really captured my interest and I found him a bit irritating most times and hypocritical other times. I think Ivy could’ve done better than Wells. I’ll check out the next book if or when it comes out.
