“You’re nothing. Just a nobody that wasn’t wanted.”
Those words have played in my head since I was five years old. Every night when I close my eyes, I relive that moment. The heat, the smoke, and the cruel smile on her face. For the longest time, I believed them. All I wanted was to find a place to belong, to be needed. But who could ever need me, a prey shifter? How can a rabbit be useful, especially when I lack elemental magic?
The guys saved me that night and every day since. They refused to let me feel useless, instead teaching me to be strong and use what I thought was a weakness to my advantage. With Lyle, Blair, Pike, and the twins, Sol and Storm, I found what I never thought was possible. People who wanted me, people who value me. They may be Alpha predators, but they make me feel like I belong.
I found a pack.
But nothing is forever, and one day I’ll have to watch them leave, to pick mates to spend their lives with. The thought haunts me, but I can’t let it rule my life. I don’t want to be alone, not again...
Again?
Sometimes my thoughts are not my own. I feel like someone else lives inside of me, full of pain and while I don’t know the reason for the pain, I can feel it as if it is my own. Every day the feeling is stronger and with it comes chaos, my life has become a delicate balance and something inside of me can’t wait for it to snap.
Fear keeps me holding onto what I know. Whatever is inside of me is waiting to get out, but it’s dark and dangerous and I refuse to let those around me be hurt by it.
I’m just not sure I can hold it in much longer.
Shaped by Destiny is book one in the Beasts of Extinction Series and ends on a cliffhanger. This is a full-length shifter romance that has some darker elements. Please read the Trigger Warnings.
Love Whychoose? Cool me too!!! After years of reading, I've decided to put this writing thing to the test. I've got tons of ideas that I can't wait to share! Want to know what I'm working on? Get exclusive first looks at covers and blurbs? Or just talk and find other reading friends? Cool, me too! So feel free to stalk me. Stalk all my links!
Another boredom read. The FMC is SUCH a pick-me girl, I almost DNF'ed in the first chapter. It honestly felt a bit like a Zootopia fanfic at the start, but make it polyam. And trashy. The dynamics between the pack seemed forced and superficial outside of the stuff that happened in childhood. And the fact that one of them would have sex with someone who so deeply traumatized their friend means they aren't really friends. Also, nothing really happens. We build towards a big revelation at the end but it's such an obvious cliffhanger that it's more like a speedbump than a cliff. A lot of important scenes and revelations happen off-screen, which left me confused and was a poor choice. There's no real romantic plot progress outside of one random hookup, and the whole pack feels rather emotionally stunted. There are pretty frequent typos, and one of the characters gets misnamed at one point. Will I read the second book? Maybe, if I am bored again.
ARC REVIEW - Warning, this book might keep you up all night. I’m coming out of a reading slump and the fact that I couldn’t put this book down speaks volumes.
The style of writing, character identifiers and playfulness captured my attention right away. The storyline was light hearted at the beginning but as it progressed it took a drastic turn which I loved even more. The darker aspects of the book were unpredictable. Shadows and rabbits? Interesting. (Iykyk) Can’t wait to see how that develops.
The slow burn was excruciatingly slow in the best way. There wasn’t a lot of spice but it made sense with how the relationships were progressing as the book went on. Now we were blessed with a scene that had me needing a cup of water and I hope we get more of that in the next book.
Overall this book is memorable, suspenseful and thought-provoking. I’m still contemplating what pieces of the puzzle that were given to us fit together to form the big picture.
Oddly done book. Serena is a rabbit shifter. Prey. Her friends are all extinct shifters of the predatory variety. And that's about all the world building you get. She has no memory of her life before @7yrs of age. She has nightmares she can't remember. She considers all the guys her friends. A mystery new guy shows up at school and seems to know a lot about her. No one acts in a mature manner. The guys can't decide whether she's a little sister or a potential mate but they're all ridiculously overprotective. We learn nothing about how packs in this world are built. Too many alphas for it to make sense. Why are some extinct animals? No clue. What is this elemental magic they're all supposed to have? I'm guessing humans know about shifters? Why if the friendship rule is no secrets, does everyone have a secret and get upset if they discover it? Why wouldn't you mention potentially damaging magic to your best friends? Especially if it might hurt them? Wouldn't you want to protect them? Or let them help you figure out how to control it? Why would you have access to a huge library with floors of information on shifters and their history and not look it up?? Why wouldn't the pack, of community, or whatever this colony of shifters is called, not have any clue about where this child came from? They have technology. No missing reports? No town blown off the map to explain why no one was looking for her? No social services that would have had to handle child placement? World building is so important to a story. It's the foundation. No foundation gives you nothing to build on. A good story has world building, character development or a gripping plot. A great story has 2 or all 3. This had none of that. No world building. The characters were stagnant children posing as adults and exhibited no growth. And there was no plot. She didn't try to discover her past or her powers. There is no big bad, just bratty mean girls. Ugh. Can we please move past that drivel as a plot device? There's no end goal at all. So what is the plot? What's the lure to come back for book 2? The book needs desperate editing on top of some honest beta readers. Plurals with apostrophes, possessives without any. Tenses change in a sentence. Names changed without reason. Words were dropped, punctuation was random, and homonyms were swapped incorrectly. There was also animal specific generalizations made incorrectly. Unlike small felines, almost all large cats have no issues with water. Many play or even hunt in ponds, lakes and rivers. And even most small felines will play in water bowls, sinks, fountains and bathtubs. Which negates the incorrect adage about cats hating water. And rabbits have been seen hunting small rodents and insects for food. Even chewing on carrion they come across and bones. They're largely herbivores, true. But some, sometimes, eat meat. But, aside from all that, shifters are human, too, and wouldn't that reflect in their dietary needs? Btw, we never see anyone shift in this book. An entire town of shifters and not a single patch of fur, feathers or scales.
This book was amazing, I was intrigued and in the edge of my seat with so many questions! That cliffhanger is brutal but in the best way. I am so anxious to know what happens with Serena and her guys! Bravo Sara this book is absolutely incredible!
And another one bites the dust. I have read a few bad books in a row now and unfortunately this one was painful. Pike 🤮 is honestly the worst male lead (cause I will not call him hero) ever. Inconsiderate and unaware - not sexy and would not touch him with a 10 foot pole.
Serena is the petite-est, most curvy, muscular, naturally beautiful girl that ever lived with five guys who treat her like a little sister they sometimes flirt with. Serena is pick me, but she’s also one of our narrators, so it’s not going to come off like that. The guys hurt her feelings like every other chapter and she just tells them she’s more mad at herself for getting upset. At one point, she apologizes to Lyle (couldn’t tell you why, I have no idea), and he magnanimously tells her she has nothing to be sorry for. Like yeah, we all know that.
I’m not going to continue with the series to see if this changes, but right now, two of the guys (Lyle and Pike) feel like spares to me. I’m not really sure what they bring to the story that one of the other characters doesn’t deliver on a bit better. Lyle is overprotective. That’s it. But Blair is the one who is super concerned with her safety and wants to drive her everywhere and gets her to listen to him. And Pike? Pike is the “snuggly” one. Not with Serena though. We never see that with Serena or any of the others. But the girl who set Serena on fire when she was younger? Definitely gonna have sex with her loudly and in Serena’s house. But don’t worry, SHE IS MORE MAD AT HERSELF FOR GETTING UPSET WHAT?!!!
I did not finish it. Pike made me so mad like are you kidding me he repeatedly had sex with a girl who traumatized the fmc. All the other guys knew what she did but they never said anything to Pike because it was just “easier” like bffr. One of the other mmc (Lyle) brings up her trauma and uses it to get back and her and I’m pretty sure he never apologizes. Pike and Lyle worst characters to ever exist.

❗️I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily❗️
Serena is a prey shifter, a rabbit, and part of a pack. Her pack consists of alpha predator shifters, and rather than making her feel useless in her lack of elemental magic, they teacher her how to use what he has as a strength.
Blair, Lyle, Pike, and the twins Sol and Storm have become Serena’s found family, but they won’t be together forever. One day, they’re going to leave to find their mates, and she’ll have to watch it happen. I love the relationship Serena has with her men.
I love the why choose trope, and Sara does it so well. I binged this book every chance I got. I really connected with Serena, and her struggles with self worth. Sara’s writing is gripping, and I found myself lost in the story, forgetting I was even reading.
Includes - why choose - Shifters/pnr - Multiple pov - Reverse harem - Mated pack - Found family - Spicy - Angst - Touch her and die - Strong fmc - Friends to lovers
I am so lucky to have this book be my first ARC read ever! It’s such a good book and it’s sticking with me.. I started a new book and I’m still thinking back to Serena and the gang wanting way more of her/their story!
⭐️shape shifter ⭐️why choose ⭐️Romantasy ⭐️mated pack ⭐️found family
My experience with the why choose trope has been very very smutty with not amazing plots. In this book Sara Hinds brings more to the table.. (don’t get my wrong I totally LOVE my smutty why choose books) this is a slow burn but in a way that gives you such a good plot and each mate (Storm, Sol, Blair, Pike, and Lyle) has their own unique relationship making you laugh and blush along the way.
Serena is an extremely lovable and relatable character with some of her insecurities.. and the way these guys fiercely love and protect her is perfection.
I need to know more about Garrett!! And I’ll be desperately waiting for book 2 to release!!
I was so excited to receive an arc copy of this book and I’m super happy that I did. I was immediately hooked on the story and the characters within the first chapter and felt like the story was so fun and easy to read. I can’t wait for the next book to come out especially after the cliffhanger that had me yelling at my kindle. I’ll definitely be reading more from this author.
Shaped by Destiny is the first book in Hinds' Beasts of Extinction series. This book is a slow burn, why choose, friends to lovers, shifter romance that centers around (Se)Rena and her friends Blair, Lyle, Pike, Sol and Storm.
Rena was found in the woods as a young girl without any recollection of her past. She was kindly taken in by her adoptive parents, Asher and Talia. She was small and skittish, and was the lone prey animal among a slew of alpha predators. The boys took to her immediately and worked to ensure she was comfortable among them, training with her so she got stronger and became more confident. They became best friends, and live together as an unofficial pack.
When Garrett, a new shifter, comes to town, the boys don't take much notice until he starts spending time with Rena. They can't put their finger on it, but he makes their beasts uncomfortable, putting them on edge. They feel the need to protect her. They don't know where he came from, or what he is doing there, and the fact that he doesn't seem to have a pack is very suspicious.
When weird things start happening to Rena, they're keen to get to the bottom of it. Is Garrett the cause, or might he have the answers?
I had a lot of fun reading this book. I enjoyed the characters and their relationships. The book was written from multiple POVs. The writing kept me engaged and I found it hard to put down. It ends on a cliffhanger but fortunately the second book, Shaped by Discovery, is already out so I'll be binging that one very soon.
I loved this book so much, it did take awhile to get my head around the fact that all of the characters were different shifters but as soon as I realised it, I just could not put the book down at all. I can't wait for more books to come for the Beasts Of Extinction series.
All of the characters in Shaped By Destiny were so unique that I loved each of their personalities. The book is a shifters reverse harem, but nothing romantic happens between the characters in this book, so I can't wait till something finally does, cause I am on edge just waiting.
The guys were all just perfect; Lyle, Blair, Pike, and the twins Sol and Storm. I swear Storm owns my heart, not only was he the only one to finally act on hoe he was feeling towards Serena at the end of the book, but I think he probably cared the most across the entire book. Serena is such a sweet FMC, I just love her to bits.
The slow burn in this book is just excruciating, i just can't wait for something to happen between all of the characters. I need some spice from these characters so bad. And then the fact we get Garrett, he is so mysterious and I need to know more.
Sara's writing is honestly amazing. It has you hooked from the first page and not wanting to put the book down. The plot for this book series so far is just amazing, and I need to know what happens next!!
Ahhhh I’m obsessed, I couldn’t stop reading this book for a single second. This story is addicting and traps you, and won’t let you go until the very end. It had me turning the page to see what would unfold next, and there was never a dull moment. The characters are perfection, the plot, and the word building was so strong and incredible; Sara did an amazing job with this story! I adore Serena, she is so awesome and such a lovable character. She is adorable, funny, sweet, and sassy, but she also has this incredible strength and compassion. Then the guys they each bring something different to the group, but they all share this same fierce protectiveness over Serena. One that doesn’t go unnoticed. I don't want to give too much away about the romance, but it is a slow burn. However, the characters make it 100% worth it. Their banter and interactions with one another is so genuine and awesome to see. Then with the mystery surrounding Serena…and her unknown past. A past that does’t want to remain silent anymore. Add in the alluring new guy Garrett coming into town; placing himself in Serena’s life. Things are definitely about to get interesting, and have you wanting more. This does end on a cliffhanger that will have you eagerly waiting for book 2!
Omg this book! Totally blew my expectations out of the window I can't actually explain. I'm so glad there's more to come because man the library scene has me gagging for more! Honestly ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🌶🌶🌶 < this will defo be higher as she gets it on with the guys! The world and character build is fantastic. I'm loving the MPOV as RH books thats defo the best delivery. Basically you meet Serena, a bunny shifter 🐇 so sweet right?! And she's grown up along side her best mates Blair, Pike, Lyle, Sol and Storm who if you have suspected, are all shifters of extinct beasts! And all predators where as she's prey. Anyhu, enter the mysterious broody Garrett who's showing a keen interest in Serena and annoying the guys to no end and setting their beasts on edge. Its a great first book to a series and I'm tempted to go read it again as that was utter perfection 🤌

I loved the storyline, the characters, and everything in between. It's a perfect example of a found family. There was humor, magic, mystery, and a bit of spice. I loved Serena/Rena. She was such a refreshing character. Sweet, and a little sassy. Blair, Sol, Storm, Pike, Lyle and Garrett, I loved each of them. I liked that all the guys were different in personality and in the type of shifter.
What a great start to the series!! Sara grabs our attention from the beginning. She makes us fall in love with the characters. She gives us a few answers, but leaves us with more questions!! I can't wait for the next book!!
This was a bit touch and go in the very beginning - I felt like there was another book or background I was missing. Yet after just a few chapters, it didn’t matter A the story sucked me in and kept me glued.
I did note that there were moments of confused words or names; the author stated Blair was always cold but then said he ran hot. Or she used the name Storm when she meant Sol. They caught me, but I laughed - because the story itself is just that good. Minor edits, does not detract.
This book just fell really flat. It felt like a Wattpad story, but not in the good nostalgic way. I think as the author matures and grows as a writer they will write some beautiful novels, but this book wasn’t it.
Really love the dynamics between the guys and Rena. Also how the guys are really distinctive. Slowly we learn not everything as it seems, which keeps you engaged in the plot. Looking forward to the next.
At first this story is slow and confusing getting to know all the guys and who is who and what powers and so forth. The romance is not there but you can tell.something is brewing and some of the guys are more mature in the romance dept. Than others. Theleading girl serena, Rena is scared but not useless she lives the guys but just wants to hold her own! Enter a new guy, Garrett that sets off all the other 5 guys beast off in a not so good way! There is some mention of 2 guys wanting or being with one another but you are not put into a scene so be warned w that I that's not your thang! The question at the end is what is renas power and why has she been missing fir 13 years???? Pulling my hair out now! Yes I already bought book.2 and 3! Please release book 4 this year. If I woukd have known it was unfinished I would waited until it was finished. Yes, I love being weird w others as well so I will be stalking you on ig. 😂
A slow burn why choose paranormal romance. There was a little bit of everything in this story including friends to lovers, a hint at why choose romance, alpha protective, possessive males, various shifters, elemental magic, forced proximity, slow burn, predator/prey, touch her and xx, secrets, and so much more.
I did enjoy the blend of shifters and magic and am more curious about this world. The story leaves off in a cliffhanger as a heads up.
3.5 This was good not a lot happened, kind of felt like an introduction to a book rather than an actual story.
Rina is a bunny shifter (maybe) who was discovered alone in the woods when she was really young. The group of guys that discovered her have become her pack and her family, which is a little hard because they are all apex predators and she is prey. Everything is going like normal until she meets a new guy in school which flips her world on its head. Her pack is now acting too over the top protective and elemental powers she never knew she had are coming out of her at the most inappropriate times. the end. :)
seriously, the whole book took place in a couple of days.
Serena has a nice life with her protectors/friends. Then, a stranger appears in her life, and strange things start happening. The new guy may have answers but has trouble getting close due to the protectors. Lots of questions to be answered. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
My fingers are Running to the next book to see if there is MORE! If they don't trip themselves. I'm new to Sara Hinds. I won this ebook on a giveaway. I'm so happy I didn't wait to read it.!!
I loved this book!! I love all the main characters, well, maybe not Pike in the beginning. He has a lot to make up for me. I really love all the nicknames for Rena, just adorable.
Ugh. Ever instantly fall in love with characters and become obsessed? Same.
I really enjoyed this book as part of the first as it sets such a good introduction to the world and the close relationships she has with guys. I really like that they are already a solid unit that already care about each other. It is so wholesome and warm that they already care so much about Serena. It is also hilarious that they are all almost dumb as rocks about their feelings regarding her but I cant wait to see them own up to their feelings.
I cant wait to find out more about Selenas magic and her and Garetts history.

This story is a quick read, I like that it was easy to follow along and a sprinkle of spiiiceee. It has all types of shifters that are born with elemental magic. The story is based around college shifters of the prey and predators. When Serena was Little they took her in their pack and vowed to keep her safe, no matter what. When things start starts going array and the new bad boy shifter, Garrett, who happens to have his eyes on Serena, what could possibly go wrong.. The cliffhanger will have you impatiently waiting for the second book!
WOW!! This book grabbed me from the very start and did not let go. I will start by saying I am not a shifter reader but I do love me some Sara Hinds so I gave this a go. I was NOT disappointed!! This is a slow burn why choose shifter romance with amazing world building and great character intros. The story was easy to move through and was a pretty fast read for me. Of course it ends on a cliffhanger so I am not so patiently waiting for the next book. Great story not alot of spice I rated this 4 stars and 1.5 spice. Can't wait to see where Queen Hinds takes us on this journey.
Shaped by Destiny is the first book in the Beasts of Extinction series. I wasn't sure what to expect,as I am new to Sara Hinds's books, but I am highly inpressed! This was such a unique, quick paced, with incredible and creative worldbuilding. I've read this book in a matter of hours! Who doesn't love the whole the overprotective alphaholes are Predator shifters over the prey shifters. That is like one of my favorite tropes. This is building up to something great and I am soooo here for it! Definitely anticipating the next book!
This book had grasped me from the beginning and had me wondering wth was going on! She’s an interesting shifter with lots of other male characters that have awesome beasts as well (can’t give it all away!). The slow burn kills me as I’m a glutton for spice but the one 🔥 scene was written very well and I need more of that hottnesssss in my life! It ends on cliff and I’ll be there to jump off it into the next book!
