Tighter editing would have helped: the first part of the book is at a lower reading level, appropriate for a wide range of readers and younger readers, but the second part of the book gets more technical and isn't as accessible.
This is a good resource for a reader just starting to research orcas. Specifics about the trapping, harvesting, and containment are included and are shocking. There's also a good primer on the different resident pods and West Coast transient pods. Worth adding if one floats your way, and a quick but enlightening read if you can find a copy.
