Two sisters. Both destined for greatness. One will rise. One will fall.
In the Freefolk camps, magic is forbidden, and the gods are dead.
Alena has lived in the camps all her life but is fascinated by the Old Lands and their magic.
When her father is injured in a hunting accident, that same magic is his only hope of survival. Alena has no choice but to break Freefolk law to save him—a crime for which she is swiftly captured. Now, only her older sister, Katell, can help her.
But Katell, a Freefolk huntress, discovers she has magical abilities of her own, and in the camps, being Marked is a death sentence. The sisters are forced to leave their home and venture into the war-torn Old Lands in search of answers. Their journey takes a dangerous turn when slavers capture them.
Alena escapes slavery and finds an unlikely ally—a rebel warrior, fighting against the oppressive Rasennan Empire. Katell, a slave, is sold to an arena to fight for the entertainment of the Rasennan crowds. Her life is on the line with each ferocious fight.
Alena vows to rescue her sister, but amidst awakening gods, scheming rebels, and a power-hungry Emperor, the sisters’ bond will be tested, and each must decide how far she is willing to go to save the other.

This was just! Wow! I am in Awe! This had everything I look for in a book. Great plot, world building, complex characters, unique magic system, political intrigue, and romance that was tastefully done. I need book 2 in my hands now!! ADD THIS TO YOUR TBR!!
I am unsure that words will suffice in telling you how much I loved this story, and I knew it early on too, by 20% of the way in I was convinced that this book was going to end up in my top reads of the year and it’s going to.
When Gods Fall is the powerful story of two sisters who, when one of them suddenly shows signs of magical ability, are exiled from their home. With nowhere to go and no known family to take them in, the two sisters set out on a quest to uncover their lineage only to find themselves forcibly separated and alone. Each sister must decide which path leads to their individual destiny, what they are willing to sacrifice in order to follow it, who they are going to trust to help get them there, because the next time they meet, they will be on opposite sides of a war. A war that was started by man but fueled by the Gods.
How S.E. Bouvier managed to write a book over 600 pages that maintains a fast paced, action-filled plot from beginning to very end while weaving in deeply rich and relatable characters and an expertly constructed world and magic system is nothing short of masterful. You can tell how much work, research, and intentionality went into every chapter.
The story is told from each sister’s POV, which I loved in equal measure. I would find myself somewhat sad when each POV shifted only to be pulled joyfully and irrevocably into the next within moments of starting it. By the end you will feel like you really KNOW these characters and even when their choices made you want to SCREAM (and you will!), you know enough about how they got to that point to understand why they did it. (I will say that while I first found Katell to be my favorite, Alena grew on me so much as her character arc expanded that now I’m not sure I can choose!)
There are so many things I loved about this book…the sisterly bond, elemental magic, war and politics, slow-burn romance, greek and roman mythology, and the beginnings of some really heart-tugging found family themes. This book is marketed as “upper YA” but reads more on the adult side than the YA side to me personally so if you prefer adult fantasy, don't let this classification deter you.
I feel immensely grateful for the opportunity to be an arc reader for this book while simultaneously dying inside for more people to read it because this is one of those books that you will feel the need to scream from the rooftops about.
WELL DONE, S.E. Bouvier. Well done. Please don’t make us wait too long for book 2!
This was so good. More readers need to find this book. So much heart, soul, and research went into this book. From the world to the characters-OMG!! I’m speechless. Idk even know what to say right now other than just read it. This series is going to destroy me. I got attached to the characters, which can only mean pain 😅. I cannot wait for book 2!
I love finding indie gems. AND THIS IS ONE OF THEM. I loved it so much. I loved all of the Greek & Roman inspired dynamics and how those + the meddling gods played into the larger plot. I loved both of these sisters and how much they cared for each other but also how they have to pursue their own paths for now.
I’m also weak for the subtle slow burn romances. The longing glances and heated kisses, good heavens, if I could ask for one thing, MORE of this. I loved both dynamics (each sister has a romantic sub plot). And the reveals??? I kept thinking I had figured something out and then was hit with new information that made me GASP. And tear up, let me tell y’all, things get emotional.
I loved all of the more prevalent side characters. I loved how much action and politicking was involved. I loved seeing glimpses of the emperor and the big journey these characters went on. The magic is really cool, and is one of those thick fantasy books I crave. It absolutely deserves all the love and I need more people to find it.
Overall audience notes: - Upper YA/NA Fantasy - Language: low - Romance: one closed door - Violence: moderate-high - Trigger/Content Warnings: war themes, loss of life, near death experiences, weapons violence
Thank you to the author for sending me an arc (all opinions are genuine tho). This took me quite a while to finish but it was worth it in the end. It's a historical fantasy book set in ancient Greece and we follow the story of the two sisters Alena and Katell. After the shocking event of their fathers death, they are forced to leave the camp of the „freefolk“, where they grew up, and now try to navigate a whole new world, leaving behind all they’ve ever known.
"Even if the Moon separates us, I will look for you. Always" This quote kind of leads us through the whole book and represents the sisters bond very well. After they manage to escape of the camp, the two sisters get separated and have to continue the journey on their own, while they try to reunite once again. We follow both POVs individually, which in this case I thought was interesting and well written. The story in general is very fast paced and has many twists I did not see coming.
You could just tell that the research that went into this book is truly incredible too. I’ve never read this kind of greek mythology before (so my knowledge was limited) but the worldbuilding felt realistic (apart from the magic of course) and very thought through.
in conclusion I liked this book & would like to read the next one in the series as well
To be honest, I am not a huge fan of reading books beyond 400 pages because I lose interests very quickly and this book is around 600 (on my Kindle it says 700+) so I was hesitant to read it because I'm afraid that I might drop this one before I could actually get a chance to get to the best part but guess what? I was 100% wrong. Everything about this book is interesting and really got me to continue reading to the end. It is a page turner, each scenes makes you want to flip to the next page! The whole book is just that good!
The sisters have a great character development. They were very different from when the book started. Alena - at first I found her as a softie and I decided that I wouldn't like her one bit because I often enjoy fmc that are assertive or strong or brave, etc. Katell - she is the sister I enjoyed following the story of. She's brave and really know how to fight. She's been through a lot and I felt really sorry for her.
Then everything flipped towards the end. I now like Alena much more than Katell and because I think she's the one who had a bigger character development; from having the fear of being alone to choosing to go on a journey alone. Compared to Katell, who I am kind of annoyed with atm, I think she really did grow up well. But even though I do not agree with Katell's decision, I still think she is an intriguing character and I feel like she will have a better insight of things in the next book.
The premise of the book is very appealing to me because the 'gods are dead' -- this really piqued my interest (how does that even work? Mythology with no gods?). The characters are also well written. The slow burn romance on this book is really slow because I barely got crumbs 😭 but those 'crumbs' are all worth it because of the way they expressed their feelings really struck me. Those little sweet moments that I will cherish 💚
If you are a sucker for mythology (this book have Greek, Etruscan, and Celtic) like me, you will definitely enjoy this book A LOT. I can't wait to read more of Katell's and Alena's journey. It was such a cliffhanger 😩
🌸 Recieved a copy from the author but all thoughts and opinions are my own
---
Done. RTC I just need to calm down a bit because those last few chapters were a lot 😭
I will be honest, I received this book when I had a lot going on so it took me a really long time to finish. BUT BOY am I glad I finally did.
This book starts off slow, as all books with great world building and magic systems do, so I was prepared to get through the bit of info dumping. Once I got past that, I couldn’t stop.
This has everything. The dual POV of Katell and Alena are everything. We get two sides of a coin in an incredibly well built world full of war, grief and politics. And the two love interests with the slow burn are everything.
The fast pace with enough action to keep my invested while the magic system was described made this book worth the 600+ pages. I spent half my time absolutely mind blown by the small tidbits that are linking to another section of the story.
I cannot wait for the next book, no matter how long
I absolutely adore this book! It made me feel all the feels and it lives rent free in my head. Her world is so vivid, rich, and well developed and the characters are *chef kiss*. Slow burn, fade to black romance, chosen one, sisterly bond, elemental magic, Greek/Etruscan/Celtic mythology, reluctant allies to lovers, enemies to lovers, strong female characters, morally grey men, broody MMC... it has all my favorite themes and tropes!
5⭐️ through and through. I loved and adored this book the prologue got me hooked. While I was reading this I envisioned myself being in the book and imagining everything that happened within the book. It was beautifully written and I loved the authors writing style. I fell in love with most of the characters, the character and world build up, the intensity, the added humour. This is a fantasy/romance with some added magic with some characters that are gifted with this magic. You have two FMC and one MMC with out characters that stand out. The Two main FMC are sisters that are trying to find each other but find out a lot during there separate journeys and come across different characters but some they both meet at different times. I cannot wait for this book to come out in hope for other people to love this book as much as I did and I cannot wait for the second book if there is to be one. (I have high hopes there will be)
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
What. A. Story. Y’all 😭😭 This book is huge and so fabulous, it’s almost unfair. I loved the dual POV from each sister.
I’m a huge sucker for mythology and it has been written so well. The gods are dead? Excuse me?! I had the absolute pleasure of being an arc reader and cannot wait for everyone to get their hands on this book.
These opinions are all my own. A massive thank you to the author for my gifted copy, it was immaculate.
In a village where the gods and magic are banned, two sisters find themselves fleeing into the broader world after the sudden death of their father. On his deathbed, he informed them of more mysteries surrounding their parentage. The two sisters cannot be more different, but they love one another above all else. When they are captured by slavers, the two eventually find themselves separated. As they journey through brutal, fractured lands, Alena joins rebel forces while Katell is enslaved to fight in a ruthless arena. In a tumultuous world of rebelling gods, political intrigue, and an oppressive empire, the sisters' bond is tested as they navigate perilous choices to rescue one another. With strong heroines, elemental magic, ancient influences, and compelling romance, WHEN GODS FALL is an enthralling entry into an epic fantasy series.
In 'When Gods Fall,' I found a story that lingered in my thoughts long after I turned the final page. The narrative's compelling finale repeatedly tore at my heartstrings, leaving me extremely eager for the next installment. This caused me so much STRESS and SAD. Which is a sign that this is a book that strongly resonated with me in particular. These characters feel genuine and I adore them but also frustrated by their situations and choices. And the rule is: if it makes me love the characters enough to cry, it gets five stars because it did its job well!
The distinct personalities displayed by the sisters were amazing. I appreciate the different versions of being strong. The dual perspectives added an incredible layer of tension, given the differing knowledge each protagonist held. And the reader knows it all! This highlighted the author's adeptness at drawing me into and immersing me into the narrative. The world-building, featuring enthralling magic, fascinating history with nods to Greco-Roman origins, and complex gods, stood out and offered depth to the story. Despite its classification as (upper) young adult fiction, the story delves into intense and brutal themes, further enriching its allure. I also adored the vibrant array of loveable (and less so) secondary characters.
Overall, 'When Gods Fall' is a gripping read that skillfully blends emotional depth, captivating characters, and a well-crafted world, leaving me eagerly anticipating the next chapter in this enthralling series. I NEED THE NEXT BOOK, PLEASE!
Thanks to the author and BOMM for the review copy. This is an honest review.
The story splits between two sisters. Booksmart Alena, and warrior Katena. Two opposites that compliment each other well. They have somehow been hidden away from a conquering, greedy Empire that knows no boundaries. Given what they don't know, it was easy to deduce they have a much bigger role to play. The sisters often split, slowing the pacing down. It gets wordy because it is a different journey for each to learn the same thing. Often trying to be mysterious to the reader at the same time. It often made it a drudge to read, the only push to continue to see if I was right. Which most of the time I was.
It has good bones and is written well, I just struggled to enjoy given there wasn't any real mystery among the repetition. It relies heavily on miscommunication and chosen one themes.
The romance was lacking as well. Love at first sight, no real bond. These relationships felt unnecessary. Particularly with Alena. Seemed to step in the way of her journey instead of compliment or challenge her resolve. Romance is fade to black or stops at kissing.
I wanted to like the story more than I did. Liked the backstory and mythology, not the slow pacing.
This story follows sisters Alena and Katell, Freefolk forced to flee their camp after Alena seeks help from a forbidden healer and Katell discovers that she has magical abilities. Their plans fall apart when they find themselves enslaved. Alena is able to escape, but Katell is sold to the fighting arena. Both sisters must go through hell to find their way back to each other. Alena and Katell are both fierce, headstrong women who refuse to cower to the men who seek only to control and break them. While Katell may be the gifted fighter, Alena has her fair share of strengths that show just how well these sisters complement each other. One of my favorite aspects of the author’s writing is the vivid descriptions and world building. The battle scenes were incredibly brutal while also reinforcing that the magical abilities come at quite at cost. Also, while there is romance in this book, it’s the subplot, so don’t go into this one thinking that it will be at the forefront of the story. I can’t wait to read book two!
Thank you to the author and Book of Media Matches for providing a review copy. This did not influence my review. All opinions are my own.
When gods fall is a story of two (bada$$) sisters who live in a small village where magic (being marked) is punishable by death, and they do not follow the gods. After Katell finds out she's been marked and Alena is sent to death for find a marked one to help save her father, the sisters flee their village in hopes to find their true family. Things go vary array and the story just gets more intense as it goes on. There are subplots of romance that had me savoring all those moments.
When it came to the world building, S.E. did a wonderful job of weaving into the story to make it complete, but also easily digestible as a reader. I loved the Greek and Roman influences in this book, as well as the found family, the magic and the epic battle scenes.
If you're a fan of fantasy with lots of emotions poured on the page, you should definitely pick this one up!
OH MY GODS. I absolutely fell in love with this book. And the best part of the story wasn't the romance aspect of it. It was the sisters bond that struck me the most.
The book is told in both the sisters point of views and it showed how each had to face their own set of challenges because they'd been separated.
Both sisters show great character development throughout the book which is generally my favorite thing to read in books. Both Katell and Alena are very different but share certain core values. There is a lot of personal growth as individuals which again something I enjoyed about the book.
The romance really is slow burn so expect that but it should be interesting to read regardless.
The worldbuilding is truly out of this world. Lol. But it truly is very descriptive which gives you a lot of insight.
If you're a sucker for Mythologies this book is for you because the story is heavily impacted by those elements.
It has all my favorite tropes so I adored that.
While I received an advanced copy of the book, this is an honest review.
“I’ve never met a girl who speaks her mind as brazenly as you do.” By his tone, he didn’t mean it as a compliment. “Girls like you either have a noble family or fighting skills to protect them, and you have none.”
“I have knowledge,” she countered, her tone unwavering.

Falling into the world of S.E. Bouvier’s When Gods Fall might be my best reading experience of 2023. From the start, I felt like someone (the author) pulled together all of my favorite things and wrapped them into one magnificent package. A little context: I was raised on a steady diet of Hercules and Xena (new episodes every Saturday, folks!). My best friends and I hosted a Y2K party when we genuinely believed in the oncoming blackout. I saw Gladiator in theaters when it was released in 2000, and later wore out my VHS copy. Best of all, I’ve held a lifelong fascination with ancient history and mythology. You could say I was the ideal reader to fall in love with When Gods Fall. What is there to love? More like, what is there not to love?
In a world similar to our own, in a time of gods and empires, sisters Katell and Alena couldn’t be more different. Where Katell is a gifted hunter and warrior, her younger sister Alena has sought knowledge and the healing arts their father has taught them. They live among the Freefolk on the steppes, far away from the reach of empires and gods, where the Gifted toy with the lives of innocents. But the sisters are not native to the steppes, as their father has taken care to remind them. Damocles took the girls away from their old life and found refuge and relative peace with the Freefolk. And they might have gone on this way forever, until their father’s hunting accident. Alena’s skill and knowledge aren’t enough to save their father, and with Katell forced away on another hunt, she makes the unthinkable choice to seek the aid of an outcast Gifted. But Alena is betrayed by best friend, and her father and sister can’t save her this time. Everything falls apart from there.
Without giving too much away, it’s obvious Bouvier has done extensive research, weaving elements of magic and mythology together with actual history (as we understand it.) In a world that almost feels like an alternate history, where Rome’s sister city won the war and became an empire, where the people we call Neanderthal’s continued to live among the dominant human species, the world-building is both believable and beautiful. The rules of magic and how societies have been shaped around them are fascinating, too. When every person in five is Gifted, it’s much easier to overcome and be taken advantage of by other Gifted. As if this wasn’t enough, Bouvier hasn’t just created a world to sink your teeth into, but characters you will want to root for and scream at depending on the situation.
I identified most with what we’d now call the “bookish” Alena. Her choice to pursue knowledge and healing is both a boon and a hindrance, as she’s exposed to the threats of the wider world. Faced with her disadvantages, Alena seeks to improve the martial skills she’s neglected. Meanwhile, her sister Katell struggles to cope with the sudden coming of her Gift, and the total shift in her paradigm. Katell is consistently a badass powerhouse. You can’t help but love her, even if you want to dump a bucket of water over her head. Where Alena sees the world for its potential, Katell struggles to look beyond its corruption. Yet despite Katell’s impatience, she has a heart of gold and a fierce loyalty to her sister.
I went through so many emotions alongside them (like Bastien in Neverending Story, minus shouting into a storm) that I felt exhausted once I reached the end. I still feel like I could write three different reviews, each focusing on different aspects of this novel. I could go on about my love for Leukos and Nik, of how I easily fan-cast and slowly fell a little more in love with our broody and cheeky warrior boys. I could also tell you how much I adored not knowing what to expect from one chapter to the next. How refreshing it was to read an epic tale that takes its time, while keeping a steady pace, yet builds constantly on the layers that came before. All of that pales compared to how invested I became in Alena and Katell’s individual journeys. Their genuine love and care for one another is the heart of this novel and one of its biggest strengths.
If you love mythology, character-driven stories, and sisterhood with a side helping of slow-burn romance, When Gods Fall is the perfect read for you. Keep in mind, this may not be your cup of tea. So much of this novel dives deep into the ugly parts of a slave-driven empire. Yet it’s the struggle and the suffering we experience with the sisters that makes their triumphs all the sweeter. A worthy beginning to a series I look forward to falling back into…and a cozy blanket to hold on to when the inevitable reunion happens. A truly dazzling epic for upper YA and high fantasy readers, and anyone who ever wondered what Gladiator would have been like with magic and a teenaged Wonder Woman.
Wow. I'm in love. The author's writing style is absolutely incredible, every chapter had me on the edge of my seat. I couldn't put the book down. Obsessed is exactly how I feel right now.
In this gripping fantasy adventure, two sisters are pushed to their limits by a world that fears magic and punishes those who wield it. When one is taken as a slave and the other joins a rebellion to save her, their bond is tested by war, rising powers, and the secrets they uncover.
The characters are flawed and relatable, and I especially loved that we have two main heroines who are sisters. Katell is a gifted hunter and warrior, while her younger sister Alena is drawn to knowledge and the healing arts passed down by their father. At first, I saw Katell as the stronger of the two, especially during her time in the arena. But around the halfway point, my perspective shifted. While Katell's strength is physical, Alena's lies in her mind, her beliefs, and the promises she refuses to break. Their different strengths complement each other beautifully, making their bond even more compelling.
“I’ve never met a girl who speaks her mind as brazenly as you do.” By his tone, he didn’t mean it as a compliment. “Girls like you either have a noble family or fighting skills to protect them, and you have none.”
“I have knowledge,” she countered, her tone unwavering.
Also, there's a little fox that follows Alena around, and honestly, it was the cutest thing ever, and also meaningful.
Both sisters have their own love interests, which only added depth to the characters. Plus, the way each new character is introduced and woven into the storyline was flawless.
The author's writing is clear and easy to picture, making the settings and magical elements come alive without overwhelming the story. The pacing is well-balanced, blending exciting moments with character development and world-building, which kept me turning pages nonstop.
The more I read, the more I fell in love with the story, the characters, and the sense of longing it left me with.
Like a mad person, I need more! Thankfully, the next book is just around the corner, and I am so ready to be blown away again.
When Gods Fall is a fantastic new entry into the world of epic fantasy. Set in a world based off of Greek and Roman mythology, this book was right up my alley. I really enjoy books that take elements from mythologies we know and love and create something new, and that’s exactly what S.E. Bouvier managed to do. Though it’s considered upper YA, it definitely reads a little more adult to me.
The story follows two sisters that, while pretty much opposites, have a strong love for one another. Alena and Katell are both such strong characters in different ways. Both endure a lot by the end of the book, and they both are able to discover more about who they are as individuals rather than as a pair.
The world building in this book is simply phenomenal. We’re given such a rich history of this world in a way that doesn’t feel too heavy or like an info dump. The pacing was really well done. I also really enjoyed the characters. While I originally imagined Katell would be my favorite between the sisters, I actually found myself much more drawn to Alena and her story. The side characters felt a little more fleshed out in her POV as well (not that they weren’t in Katell’s; they just were a tiny bit more on Alena’s side of things). Alena also was a more sympathetic character for me personally. I just really loved seeing her growth. I look forward to seeing more of it as well as (hopefully) more of a certain dark haired, stony faced individual. 😉
The magic system When Gods Fall is extremely interesting and unique. I’m not sure I’ve read anything quite like it, and I absolutely loved that! I can’t wait to see what other powers we’re introduced to in this series.
Overall, I was really blown away by how much I enjoyed When Gods Fall. I highly recommend it to enjoyers of epic fantasy (with a little dash of romance).
I received an ARC copy of When Gods Fall and am leaving this review voluntarily. All opinions are my own. Thank you BookSirens and S.E. Bouvier for the ARC!
When I first read the synopsis for this book, I immediately thought that this could be my favorite book of the year, if not one of my all-time favorites. I’m so glad I got my hands on this because I was right. This is one of my favorite books of all time.
Before I say anything about the book, I need to admit that I don’t usually go for long books like this if I can’t listen to an audio adaptation alongside it. I have a horrible attention span and was a bit nervous that I wouldn’t be able to finish this. Thankfully, the author hooked me from page one and it ended up being almost impossible to put down. The pacing and the plot were spectacular and I loved getting to follow both of the sisters throughout the entire story.
As for Alena and Katell, I love them so much. It was so fun to get to follow both of them and watch them grow. They both already started as strong characters but the author did such an amazing job of only making them stronger throughout the course of the story.
As per usual, I won’t give anything away about the story itself, though I’m dying to get my friends and family to read it so I have someone to discuss it with. If you like fantasy, strong female characters, and lots of action, I highly recommend this! I received a free ARC of this, and I’m choosing to leave an honest review.
This epic romantasy novel absolutely blew my mind. A story about two sisters, and how they will each be set on a different path that will take them away from each other. A world split by magic, some have it, and others don't. Some worship the old gods, and some worship newer gods. An emperor on the march to conquer an entire country for his own greed, but you'll discover that it goes even deeper than that. Alena and Kat have a hidden past that their father never told them about. When he dies, they find themselves cast out of the camp that they called home all their lives. Where are they to go? What are they to do when captured by those who wish them harm? While one escapes, the other endures cruelty and hardship that threatens to break her. But is offered a means of escape. This book packs a punch. Prepare to clear your schedule and put up a "Do not Disturb" sign. Riveting romance, edge-of-your-seat drama, and heartbreak are the name of the game for this book. One sister is destined to save the world, and another? A darker fate may be in store. Mild steam (target audience minimum is 16 and up), so no spicy scenes. LOL Be prepared for cliffhanger ending that will leave you reeling and making grabby hands for book two. We can't wait to find out what happens next for these sisters. If you're not reading this series...you're missing out!
When Gods Fall is the fist book in the The Gifts of the Gods series by S. E. Bouvier. It's about the sisters Katell and Alena who have to flee their camp after Katell finds out she is marked by the gods. On their way into the Old lands they get captured by slavers and that's where their ways part. Alena is able to flee with Katell and a strangers help, but Katell gets selled to an arena and has to fight for their life. Will they ever find each other again and how much are they willing to give for that? It took me a while to get into this book, but after that I fell in love with it! The characters are super interesting and I enjoyed getting to know them better throughout the book. The storyline is suspenseful and interesting. I really like the alternating point of views, it's pretty cool to see through the eyes of the sisters, as they are so different! All in all I really enjoyed this book and I can't wait for the next one! I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily
When Gods Fall by S.E. Bouvier is an absolute must-read for fantasy enthusiasts! Set in the Freefolk camps where magic is forbidden and the Gods are dead, it follows the captivating journey of two sisters, Alena and Katell, destined for greatness - it's a wild ride. Alena and Katell's stories are both gripping and heart-wrenching, and the dual POV keeps you hooked and provides a compelling narrative, with Alena's story focusing on discovery and danger, while Katell faces the brutal realities of slavery in the arenas of the Rasennan Empire. The writing style is fast-paced, flowing, and filled with plot twists that keep you eagerly turning the pages. The worldbuilding is a standout feature, offering a fantastic, albeit sometimes violent, immersion into a world where mythology is seamlessly woven into the story. The characters, especially the morally grey men and mysterious broody MMC, add depth to the narrative, creating a mesmerising blend of enemies to lovers and fierce heroines. What sets When Gods Fall apart is its meticulous craftsmanship. The author's dedication is evident in every chapter, with a rich tapestry of mythology, well-developed characters, and a gripping plotline. This book is a true masterpiece, a result of substantial work, thorough research, and intentional storytelling. Highly recommended for anyone craving a fantasy novel that combines strong heroines, elemental magic, ancient influences, and a touch of heart-wrenching romance. I enjoyed every moment and eagerly anticipate the sequel! 👏"
Gratitude to the author for granting me an ARC. It was a genuine privilege to dive into the world of "When Gods Fall" ahead of its release. Thank you for this enchanting experience !!
Wow, I did not expect to be as blown away as this book as I was!
I was hooked from the first few pages, this story follows the lives of 2 sisters who live in a world where magic is forbidden and the Gods are dead.
The book is fast paced with so many of our favourite tropes, enemies to lovers, slow burn, Greek and Roman mythology, morally gray men, reluctant allies, the list goes on!
The story follows the POV of both sisters and is so fantastically written that you do no realise how much you have read as you are reading it. I was initially I little nervous about the size of the book, but the easy and additive way that it is written means before you know it you have devoured the whole book and you are looking for the next one!
Fingers crossed we do not need to wait to long for the sequel! Thank you S. E. Bouvier for giving me the amazing opportunity to read this fantastic story.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
★This was an arc sent to me by the author. My review and feelings are completely my own and genuine.
-Wow this really made me feel every emotion. From the amazing writing to the depths of the characters that made them feel real. I am in absolute despair that I have to wait for book 2 next year! I sobbed very intensely and kicked my feet more times than I can count. The tension and the relationships between characters was top tier. Wow!
-This is an Epic YA fantasy filled with adventure, action, betrayal and love. The story follows two sisters, Katell and Alena. Both sisters are nothing alike apart for the love they have for each other. The sisters go through a series of events that will change their life. So many lovable and memorable characters. Also characters that you will hate with passion.
-If you love epic fight scenes, swoon worthy moments and strong friendships then this book is for you!!!!!!
This book took me by complete surprise! It’s told from the two sisters pov, Alena & Katell. At first I favored one pov over the other but once the story picked up, I couldn’t get enough of either. The character building was so damn good and the little nuggets of past information the author gives along the way creates such an exciting journey for the reader. The magic was done so well. I also loved the way the love interests were introduced- it wasn’t too much too fast (or cringey) which I’ve been struggling with in other fantasy books lately. It was the perfect set up to a promising series & I can’t wait to continue.
3.5. I find one of the sisters slightly irritating towards even through the development but I loooove the other sister and I’m invested to keep going and see what happens.
spectacular. this was such a thrilling military fantasy, reminded me heavily of an ember in the ashes. the pacing of this book is golden; its a class act. super fast paced for all 600 pages i could not bear to put it down. alena my dear soft hearted healer in a cruel world, no one could never make me hate you. such complex characters and relationships go on in this book, and because of the circumstances they’re in, they make decisions that you may not agree with but understand. im very curious to see how this conflict/war plays out in book 2 after how well it was set up here.
This is definitely good leg work for the next book. There was a lot "world building" going on, so that we can understand the relationships between the kingdoms/tribes and the gods. It definitely started getting more exciting towards the end, so it's building up to something big. There are lots of good characters throughout the story. I look forward to reading the next one!
