There has only been three people in Jaxxon Carter's life who truly mattered to her. Her mum, who committed suicide. Her sister, who she hasn’t seen since her teens. And Connor McKenzie, who disappeared from her life the same day he left their foster home. The hardest part of that was that he never completely left her life because she was forever seeing him on T.V. or in magazines as a Formula One Driver. But Jaxxon refuses to live a ‘woe is me’ life, even in spite of living alone in her one-roomed flat and being expected to survive on a ridiculously low income. Then one night she is offered a modelling job and before she knows it she has been catapulted to the peak of success, gaining fame, fortune and security. Oh and a stalker. Connor McKenzie is busy trying to shake off his crazy ex-girlfriend – another woman who thought she could get around his no marriage rule – when he sees Jaxxon on the cover of a magazine. Remembering how close they had once been, he’s shocked when she doesn’t respond to his attempts to contact her and then acts indifferently to him when they meet. But Connor can’t let it go. The only reason he had kept his hands off her ten years ago was that she had been younger than him. Now that they’re adults, he isn’t prepared to allow anything – not even Jaxxon – to stop him from having her. This novel contains a bitchy female who curses like a sailor, a persistent alpha male who doesn’t understand the word ‘no’, and explicit hot sex in some very public places.
Suzanne Wright lives in England with her husband, two children, and her Bengal cats. When she's not spending time with her family, she's writing, reading, or doing her version of housework - sweeping the house with a look.
Anytime I leave my beloved M/M genre, I realize the following:
1. I really am a gay man trapped in a straight woman's body. Officially no doubt.
2. When you call a female character "strong," she has to be more than a cocky, my-way-or-the-highway, fuck-you-telling-me-what-to-do kind of girl. Cause that's not strong, just immature.
This really was another self-published, silly NA erotica with an over-the-top angsty plot, a very jealous and violent leading man (since when is that attractive? In my world, that's called ABUSE, but whateves), and repetitive sex scenes that sometimes steered uncomfortably toward psuedo-rape (when a girl says STOP, you fucking stop; you don't push her against the counter and say, But I can't stop, I want to fuck you now. Dude, NOT. COOL.)
I didn't buy the rags-to-riches plot; I hate to sound so un-PC, but it seemed like Jaxxon was too curvy to be a model. And she refused to work out or do any kind of eating regime, which was, frankly, her job. She picks up a few fairy god mamas and papas on the way, too (while I'm still waiting for just ONE to show up, damn it).
And the sweet-sweet epilogue was just revolting. Check, please.
TOP 4 WAYS WRIGHT GETS IT RIGHT IN From Rags (And 1 way she gets it wrong)
WRIGHT RIGHT #5: The Hero Is A Man-Man.
He’s mentally and emotionally attuned to his heroine and cares about how his actions affect her. He treats her like she’s special and the only woman he’ll ever love. He listens to good relationship advice and eventually commits to her body and soul. He’s playful. He’s sexy. He’s imaginative:
"He scanned the box. 'Seven different intensities…Can be used hands-free…Interesting.' He dropped his hand into the bag. 'Batteries. Uninteresting, but needed.' He dug deeper. 'Two bottles of lube to ‘enhance sensitivity’. Oh, we’ll have to try that. Last but not least…' He wiggled the toy in his hand. 'Ankle cuffs.' ”
CONNOR MCKENZIE IS…
WRIGHT RIGHT #4: The Heroine Is The Shit.
She’s independent, logical, and practical. She wants an Elvis wedding!!! She’s a straight shooter. She’s a total badass. She gives as good as she gets:
" 'McKenzie, you try any freaky shit and I’ll shove my new vibrator up your arse. No way am I lying here for half an hour while you kiss and bite me from head to toe again.’ She narrowed her eyes. 'No freaky shit.' "
JAXXON CARTER IS…
WRIGHT RIGHT #3: The Story Is Entertaining.
The snark is epic. The characters are charming. The chemistry is off the charts:
" 'I’m curious, what can you do when you’re cuffed to my bed? I think I might take longer than half an hour now. Don’t worry, if at any time you can’t take anymore just say ‘please.' " ~ Connor
AND THE SEX…
WRIGHT RIGHT #2: The Message Is Pragmatic.
Jaxx doesn’t play games to get Connor to love and respect her. She accepts what their relationship is, not what she wishes it to be. Connor can’t commit, so she doesn’t put her life on hold for him. She doesn't grant him rights he hasn’t earned and isn’t entitled to:
" 'I. Don’t. Beg.' He knew she wouldn’t. The woman was a walking challenge and he couldn’t help but rise to it. He licked the crease where hip met groin. 'It’s only a word, Jaxx. Just one.' 'Yeah? Well here’s two: Fuck. You.' He smiled. Even restless and gasping for release, she fought him. She wouldn’t be Jaxx if she didn’t." ~ Connor & Jaxx
IN OTHER WORDS…
FINALLY...
WRIGHT WRONG #1: The Editing Is Haphazard.
There are some misspelled, misused, and missing words. Sentences are sometimes wordy and awkward. A few scenes are unnecessary and could be eliminated. A good editor would have made this book perfect.
If you’re sick of weak girlmats who are so afraid of being alone they settle for immature boywhores who treat them like cheap hook-ups… If you’re sick of unsatisfying, unbelievable HEAs that leave you feeling angry and upset… Check out From Rags; everything those other romance authors gets wrong, Suzanne Wright gets right.
From Rags by Suzanne Wright: 4 “Wright Gets It Right” Stars.
What can ruin a strong badass heroine more than a wimp coward of a male protagonist, who abandoned her years ago?! Maybe an abhorrent manwhore, who didn't give a f*ck and only wanted her because she was beautiful and became a celebrity?! Piece of shit and not a man.
She could have done much better, so much better! Ugh! 😤
5 Surprising, In your Face, No Holds Barred, Gutsy Broad Stars * * * * * Spoiler Free I don't know about you... but I love surprises. The idea of something unexpected jumping out and grabbing you ... either a happy feeling of joy... or it can be the shock of thinking you know exactly what will happen and then Bam the story takes you to a whole other place... I love all of it.
And the best type of surprise is meeting an author, not knowing anything about them and falling head over heels in love. Suzanne Wright's book, From Rags, did all of that for me. I knew nothing about this book except one of my friends either wanted to read it or had read it... because it showed up on my feed. I was curious enough to read the blurb; clicked and I was off and running... I mean reading....
Oh what a joy... Now understand... this is not all happy-clappy... no... This opens with our Jaxxon being abandoned again at 14... This time by her sister, Leah. Jaxxon our MC and her sister are in foster care. It has not been good; it has been a series of crappy situations and the only saving grace was this bonding of 4 children, Roland, Connor Leah and Jaxxon.
Connor, who Jaxxon has always loved, left a while ago.... he was her best mate but older... he looked out for her; protected her from the other messed up boys staring at her due to her luscious early curves. He was 16, of age to leave; promised in a kiss which meant everything to her, he would come back to see her. Jaxxon carried that promise in her heart... keeping her warm and safe. Only Leah, her selfish, bitch of a sister, tore that away from Jaxxon on the day she left... saying what a fool she had been... thinking Connor cared for her... when in reality, she and Connor had been laughing and shagging the whole time. Leah was off to join Connor... and that was that. Roland was gone, so Leah was alone... and she could either become bitter, lost, and angry or she could look at these reveals from her sister about Connor... and decide to move forward and start fresh. She chose to start fresh.
It fast forwards to Jaxxon at 22 working as a barmaid in a dump. The patrons are grabby, crude and sometimes evil. She puts up with the garbage but in her own way; and that is to be direct, not give a shit, tell the blokes to go fuck themselves or pay the consequences. She has no idea of how she is the most sensual creature with eyes that have this look ... this ability to cause men to go weak. Her lush curves are still there only more womanly and her chocolate curls just finish the look. She is oblivious to all of this to a degree and only knows she doesn't care what others think or say and goes about her business. However, that does not mean she isn't aware of the looks and idiots trying to get her attention..... And today there is this fella watching her... checking her out... but not like the others... she feels like she is under the microscope and he is evaluating her every move. At the end of her shift... she is called over by the owner and he tells her he has been paid to have her talk with this man... she has no choice but to do so.
Ricky is a co-owner of a cosmetic company; he and his partner want a real beauty to be the face of the line... not some tried and true model type... all puffed up with injections and plastic boobs, no.... they want an everyday woman who is real through and through. He presents this concept to Jaxxon and she just looks at him.... and then laughs... because she tells him, if you are not some con artist and if this is the real deal... you are wanting someone who doesn't play... someone who doesn't hold back and will tell people what I think. I can be crude and I just will not do whatever you want and be bossed around. Ricky acknowledges all of that and sets up a meeting with his partner...Jaxxon agrees because... She wants a way out of her situation and if this is really what has been presented to her... why not.
The meeting goes just as Ricky knew it would; Ollie his partner saw immediately the fire in Jaxxon's eyes; how they cause the stirring in anybody, male or female, and the skin which was a smooth pure canvas for their product. Photos were taken while Jaxxon had been properly annoyed... for it seems when in that mindset her eyes are at their best...and from there, her life changes drastically. She becomes an overnight sensation. She is fortunate though as Ricky and Ollie really do care about her and take on the oversight of her adapting to the high and public life.
On the other tract of this story, there is Connor. Connor never forgot Jaxxon... he also never was into Leah... she lied. Connor was always into fast cars and ends up by a twist of fate a Formula 1 Driver... famous, rich and quite the catch. He was so taken by Jaxxon; he never trusted himself around her; he never wanted anyone else around her and deep in his heart always felt she was his. He was remiss in not reaching out yet thought with Leah and Roland around, Jaxxon would be alright. Time goes by and Connor is the playboy never giving his heart, doing the casual fuck and letting the girls know it. Sometimes they get it... sometimes they have difficulty letting go.
It is during a ranting by one of the women who is refusing to hear Connor when he has told her repeatedly he was done with her he spies Jaxxon on the cover of a major fashion magazine. He can't breathe; he is stunned, he must find her and see how she is.
That is the set up and from there this book takes off and never stops. The coming together of these two characters is beyond great. We have learned who they are; how they function and all of their demons... we know quite a bit of why they will fight any attraction which, of course, will happen. We are also given secondary characters which assist in so many ways as to be really perfect in their roles.
The combustion; the chemistry; the way these two interacts; OMGOMGOMGOMG...OMFG!
The sexual situations, the way they are teased and we are lead to the point of us as readers just dying... and the humor with all of it, too... perfection. There are a few scenes where I was clenching my fist and holding my breath without even realizing it.
But speaking of perfection.... the character Jaxxon.... she is everything you wish a person could be... she is strong and incredibly sure of herself. She has overcome unbelievable horrors and still maintained this ability to set things aside and not have that woe is me shit. She says and does things in such a way you wish you were her best friend; and Connor... when he gets with Jaxxon... Oh dear God... he is confused; he is addicted; he is in love but doesn't know it. This was the best.
Here is the deal.... this book was so good it interfered with my real life. I had places to go and things to do... but all I wanted was to read this fucking book. So as I said, I love surprises... and this was a big one. I suggest you go and treat yourself and have one, too.
Spoiler Free Review -Quick Review 4.5 STARS out of 5 Genre: Adult Contemporary Romance Loved. Every. Damn. Line. I. read. Jaxx is hands down one of the best female characters I have had the pleasure to read! Loves her! ;)
From Rags is a hilariously sexy story about a young girl that goes from foster care and growing up in the slums. To having her face on the cover of magazines and being known worldwide as the face of Allure cosmetics.
Jaxxon Carter has not had an easy life, in fact after only having three people in her life she loves and depends on now at twenty-two she is all alone. Her mother has been dead most of her life, her sister is long gone and the one guy she ever loved made a promise that he did not keep. Since fourteen she has been alone and not once did she allow her circumstances define her. One night while working in a bar she is approached by a man that offers her an unbelievable deal for her to be the face of his new cosmetics line.
Formula One driver Conner McKenzie left foster care at sixteen promising Jaxx that he would be back to see her. He never went back. And now eight years later he is determine to right his wrong. But Jaxx will not be easily swayed. It's not like the years passed and she never saw his face again. It was the opposite she had to see his face plastered on T.V. and magazines all the time. So of course she chooses to have nothing to do with Conner. Problem is, he is VERY determined to have her and so is someone else. Jaxx has a stalker.
Thoughts OMG I loved it. The chemistry between these two was palpable and I genuinely enjoyed every second of it. Not sure what the deal is with the cover??? But I am very sure that this is a goodread. And I recommend it to EVERYONE! Jaxx- Is a give it to you straight whether you like it or not type of girl. She was not scared to go toe to toe with anyone. Especially Connor. When they fought it was like watching a match between a lion and a tiger. Who will be the victor?! All I have to say is never underestimate either one.*grins* Connor- Total alpha male. Never afraid to say whats on his mind. And always willing to throw Jaxx over his shoulders when she does not bend to his will. Oh and he is HOT AS HELL!!!! Anna- Loved her. She was Jaxx best mate and also a model. She is eighteen and is always starstruck when meeting other famous people at the parties she an Jaxx attend. Anita- Connor's crazy ass ex. Who just can't seem to let him go. And goes to extremes to keep him. Fave lines “Like it or not, your business became mine the minute you let me inside your body.” ~Connor "Babe you have no idea how close I am to the edge. Believe me when I say that if you keep pushing, my cock is just going to take over and I'll fuck the answer out of you." ~Connor Fave question asked.
"If I put my finger inside you right now. It would come out wet, wouldn't it?" ~Connor
My Ratings Characters- Lovable Writing Style- Excellent Plot/Storyline- Savory, Hilarious and Suspenseful Steam Factor- High/Very Steamy Overall- I loved it! Read it!
Now go forth and read. Then tell us about it on Goodreads!
Okay. I need to calm my arse down a little here. Normally I would swoon over the Hero, but I must say, I loved the heroine more. Yes, I would go bi for this cheeky Brit. Mother Lord Jaxxon was a fantastic female lead. She was not your typical heroine. She’s beautiful, but she’s no where near conceited. She’s ballsy, curses like a sailor, and not at all intimidated by anyone. She tells it how it is and there is no censor on that mouth of hers. She’s mental and I effin love her. God knows I read a ton of books, but Jaxxon is my first ever female crush.
Alright, with that said, I must also give our hero, Connor, his due. It takes a mans-man to tame Jaxxon. Connor is all Alpha. He’s sexy, extremely possessive, and can easily kick anyone’s arse. He doesn’t do relationships. Because of his star status, he could have his pick of any woman, so why settle? Of course there are other reasons why he will never commit, but that’s for you to read and find out. However, Jaxxon is his Achilles heel. He just won’t admit it yet.
Jaxxon and Connor are former foster kids. They grew up together with Connor always looking out for Jaxxon. She’s always had this sort of magnetism that attracts the opposite sex, even the creepers. Connor was always there to fight off any bloke who even looked at her funny. However, when it was time for Connor to leave the system, he left Jaxxon promising her that he would back. Jaxxon has always loved Connor and it devastated her when everyone she loved, especially Connor, left her.
Fast forward eight years. Jaxxon is working as a barmaid working at a shite-hole pub fending off creepers. She always held her own and no one ever intimidated her. Believe it or not, it was at this pub that she was discovered. A model scout, looking for the right face for a new line of cosmetics, found her I-don’t-give-a-shite-I-can-wipe-your-arse-on-the-floor attitude alluring and automatically knew she was the right girl for the job. The more pissed off she was, the better she came off on camera. Jaxxon couldn’t believe she was model. She never thought of herself that way. She was reluctant, but knowing that it would give her financial security she wants to live on her own terms, she took it.
Connor was now a famous Formula One driver. He’s got a shag em’ and leave em’ reputation when it comes to women. It was during another break-up that he happened to notice Jaxxon on a cover of a magazine. He decides to phone her thinking that they could just “catch up”. Jaxxon doesn’t even return his call. He is frustrated and curious to know why. When they unintentionally see each other at a charity event, all hell broke loose. Jaxxon wants nothing to do him and Connor will not take “no” for an answer. What do you pair up an Alpha male and an Alpha female? A f**king great story.
The chemistry between the two was beyond intense. Good God these two were off the bloody charts. I bloody loved everything about their story and add the fact that they were both Brits (and if you know me, I love everything British) and that the story took place in London, how could I not love this story!? It was fantastic and I'm so happy I found this gem. HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!
Reread 04/08-04/09/2023 ***************************** 4.5 stars.🌟🌟🌟🌟 I knew going in that this was a contemporary romance and not a PNR unlike most of Suzanne's books but I was still so impressed (totally gobsmacked ) at how well she writes in this genre. Without the fantasy, I was treated to a funny, sexy and snarky story that I have come to expect from this author but this was also a much deeper, more emotional and angsty love story. After reading this, I really have to wonder why she hasn't penned more stories like this one. I am so glad that I spotted it on KU. Standout read for me by one of my favorite authors. ✔'s all my📦📦📦.
This book is really good actually. It took me by surprise when I dive into it blindly. Also my first read by Miss Wright. What I like the best is Jax, of course. She is an unapologetic, kick ass, take no prisoner heroine. It is a rare that a heroine character in romance, is this memorable.
The author done a very good job maintaining the consistency of her character through out the book. Now Connor is the perfect match to Jax. I do love their banter, their push and pull. It is a very entertaining.
I wish the POV could be done form both Kax and Connor. Not a third person' POV.
I'm a bit perplexed on how to rate this one. I liked it, but I didn't LOVE it.
There wasn't anything wrong with it per se. It just felt REALLY LONG. Both characters were OK. Connor was fine and never looked at another woman after getting back with Jaxxon. But it took WAY too long for him to come to terms with his feelings, and then it wasn't even him that figured it out on his own. It took a lecture from his best friend to get his ass in gear. I kind of think he would probably still be wallowing if it wasn't for Dane. Jaxxon was a strong heroine, but sometimes I felt she came across as too in your face. I don't like doormat heroines but I do like them to at least come across somewhat vulnerable, and I never felt that with Jaxxon.
Unfortunately because we never really get to see the previous history between these two, I never felt that great of a connection between them. I'm suppose to believe they were both pining away for each other, but in the 8 years Connor never once thought to pick up a phone or anything? Then all of a sudden he sees her in a magazine and is all "SHE'S MINE" Nope, sorry, didn't buy it.
I think maybe had the author took out some of the filler stuff and maybe gave us a peek at their history this one might have worked better for me. I don't know...like I said, it was OK. I did think the side characters were interesting and pretty well developed though...
Genre: - Contemporary Romance Series: - Stand Alone Love triangle? - Cheating? - HEA? - Would I read more by this author/or in this series? - Yes Rating - 3.5 stars
★Review★
I did not enjoy this one as much as I did the Phoenix Packs series.
I found the heroine maybe just a too bit one dimensional for me. Yes SW can write "feisty strong" heroines but at times it feel like that is ALL there is to them. The heroine just deals with her awful past by.......turning off her emotions! Even at the end, when what happens to her happens she is kind of just "meh". Actually made it hard to connect to her as a character.
The hero, atypical grunting alpha all "mine mine mine" while not feeling like he can offer the heroine anything as he is unlovable etc.....
YET! - I do enjoy the way SW writes. Her books are fast paced and entertaining. Might I get bored of it in the future, since so far, all her characters seem very similar? Possibly.
But currently, am enjoying them.
I do wish, and this was a issue I had in the Phoenix Pack series, that the world SW likes to make her characters inhabit were not full of stereotypical ex girlfriends, bitches, twats etc. In fact, anyone who the hero or heroine are not friends with, or will become friends with, is portrayed in such an over the top horrible way it is a bit much.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
“Sometimes people who you loved just didn’t love you back, even if they were supposed to.”
I can honestly say that this was probably one of the best books I’ve read lately. It’s sooooo good and you can’t help but be stuck to the story since the first page.
Jaxxon and Connor met in foster care when she was 12 and he was 14. Since the beginning Connor was ultra protective of Jaxx and she can’t help have a huge teen crush on him. On the day he celebrates 16 years he has to get out and foster care and start living on his own but before he leaves, he promise Jaxxon that will never lose touch with her and that they will always be close to each other. And she believes because Connor is one of the very few people Jaxxon has in her life.
But he doesn’t fulfill his promise: he never came back and she never heard from him again. From that day on, Jaxxon’s life start to go down and she makes a promise: Never let anyone in. It’s the only way to survive.
8 years later Connor is a F1 driver extremely famous, Jaxxon works in a bar trying to make the ends meet. One night she is scouted to be the face of a makeup campaign. She becomes a model and starts being recognized and living in a completely different lifestyle that was used to. She and Connor meet again and when he sees her again, we wants her back in his life at all costs and believe me…. This guy don’t know the meaning of the word “no”. But Jaxxon is still hurt with him and don’t want to let anyone, especially him, in and he is also hurt by his past so he can’t really let her in. But then a stalker comes into her life, things start to change and they find each other in a very confused situation that neither of them knows how to get out.
This book has an excellent premise and very well accomplished. The main and supporting characters are great, and the romance and the steam is to die for. I loved every second of it.
I have to give kudos to Suzanne Write for creating the most amazing female heroines ever. Usually when I read a book, my relationship with the girls is a strong fight between liking them and annoying the hell out of me. With the heroines from this author, you can’t help but love them. And not only that, but she also creates the sexiest alpha-males heroes ever, the ones we spent half of the book wondering if we want to slap or undress them. You can’t help but be completely absorbed by the insane chemistry of the couples she create and Connor and Jaxxon were no exception. I can definitely say I’m in love with this author books.
From Rags is a blend of everything I love: SMOKING HOT sexual tension that comes from an antagonistic relationship, suspense filled mystery, and a romance stemming from a long-time friendship. To find such an addicting story from a self-published author is gratifying.
Jaxxon grew up in foster homes when her loser mother overdosed and died when she was eight. She had no one but her older sister Leah and Connor McKenzie, another foster care mate. Both left her and never came back when they were at legal age. First Connor then Leah. Left at fourteen, Jaxx learned to build a wall around her heart and never let anyone close. They can’t hurt you that way, and Jaxx is over being hurt. She thought she shared a special and close relationship with Connor, and that he’d come back eventually, but the cruel claims by her sister shattered any thoughts in that regard. She’s since seen Connor splashed across the gossip magazines because he made it big as a race-car driver, and is never without a beautiful woman at his side.
She grew up in a tough world but learned to survive and doesn’t wallow in self-pity. Jaxx has always been a magnet for attention, beautiful and alluring, she’s used to attracting unwanted attention. But one night her looks and attitude pay off when she attracts the attention of a modeling agent set to find the right girl to launch his new cosmetics line. This is when she comes back into Connor’s focus. Understandably, Jaxx is ticked at Connor. How dare he think he can just waltz right back into her life after letting all this time pass without contacting her? I was pretty ticked at him as well, but it’s better to reserve judgment until you’ve heard the whole story.
I just loved Jaxx. She has a no nonsense view of life and didn’t take crap from anyone, and trust me, she got a lot of loony-tunes! Loved this quote:
And then he made the biggest mistake of his life: he attempted to touch Jaxxon. Having reached her limit with the randy bastard, Jaxxon leant toward him slighty. “Do you see this pole? If you don’t stay out of my face, I’m going to rip you another arse hole with it. Understand?” He gulped and nodded before awkwardly skiing away.
That still brings a smile and a laugh!
The initial hostility and lust between Connor and Jaxx was so much fun, and their relationship was very intense the minute they lay eyes on each other. Let me tell you, the sparks fly! Massive amounts of sexual tension radiated off the page. I’ll give you a taste:
…his lips travelled down to her neck. Connor licked it then bit down hard. She shuddered. No, she wasn’t immune to him the way she wished she was, and she hadn’t ceased wanting him. If anything, her attraction to him was even stronger. “See—still my Jaxx.”
Add to this deliciousness was the mystery of Jaxx’s stalker who keeps upping the ante in his/her moves. Connor is not without baggage and he’s got his own stalker of sorts in the form of an ex-girlfriend who tries her best to sabotage Jaxx and Connor’s relationship. Fortunately, Jaxx is one smart cookie and this girl has nothing on her! Her reactions and dealings with this nitwit were very satisfying and brought a smile to my face. This added excitement and suspense to an already thrilling story and I just lapped it up!
From Rags was a well crafted story that will keep you glued to the pages and guessing until the end. Don’t miss out on this self-published gem!
Jaxxon and Connor met in foster care. Connor leaves at 16 promising to come back and visit Jaxxon but she never hears from him again until 8 years later when he's a profession race car driver and she's an up and coming model.
Connor - Very possessive and jealous hero. Once he saw Jaxxon on the magazine cover, all his memories of her came back and he was determined to re-enter into her life again. Their connection was intense and full of heat. Due to Connor's past he was in the mindset that he couldn't give a woman more than a fling.
Jaxxon - Beautiful woman but very down to earth. She's honest and doesn't conform to society. She sees past the fake and intent to be malicious and calls people on it. She's loved Connor since she was 14 years old but she's hurt by his actions. She doesn't want to let him back in her life but she also can't say no to him.
This had all the makings of being a favorite for me but one thing kept that from happening. Connor's inability to see he can have a future with someone. His actions were of a man in love but he always saw the end to his relationship with Jaxxon. I still liked the book and his actions made up for most of my discontent.
Now Jaxxon I loved. Every time I see a heroine get walked all over in a book, I wanted them to react the way Jaxxon reacted. Her every reaction to any mistreatment she received was exactly the way I always wanted to see. I LOVED her!
He fisted a hand into her ringlets and tugged so she’d look up at him. “I have to have you, Jaxx. I want to fuck you so bad my cock actually fucking hurts. They might not be sweet, flowery, poetic words – the kind you’d laugh at – but that’s the truth. I have to know what it’s like to be deep inside you.”
HONKA.HONKA.HOLY.SEXY.MAMA !!! God that didnt even make any sense !!
Suzanne Wright , damn you woman !!!! Why must you write about such yummy , scrumptiously delicious , all man-man , hot freaking motherfreakers ! You must realize that some of us don't have boyfriends and reading your books can give an itch so bad down there that it might need immediate tending to ! Argh , and finding someone as good as Connor McKenzie , who can do wicked tempting things to you , just impossible !
Full review to follow , I got needs to take care of first ... !
Gosh, Suzanne Wright sure do know how to write alpha males. She's like... one of the best authors out there, in writing those hot, sexy, controlling, possessive AND animalistic males. Though this book wasn't my favorite of hers, it was still pretty good. I really enjoyed it. But I am kinda mixed up about what to rate it.. Rate: 3.5/4-3 stars.
Sometimes a re-read/listen does live up to expectations...
When I saw From Rags pop up on Audible Escape I was pretty stoked. I remembered really enjoying this one but for the life of me, I couldn't remember why. There was a little part of me that was hesitant to start, though. There is nothing worse than re-reading/listening to a 5-star favourite and being disappointed. I'm happy to say, this one lived up to my expectations.
Was it still a 5-star read?
Yes...kind of...mostly. I've come a long way...this author has come a long way...the romance-reading industry has come a long way. Jaxxon is a little too in your face and rough around the edges and Connor was a little too entrenched in emotional denial. I'm not going to change my rating because, in the end, it gave me all the feels and left me smiling by the end.
Jaxxon is one tough cookie. Her history has a wee bit of darkness in it but she survived and somehow came out the other side OK. Strikingly attractive, with a beautiful body made her an easy target as a young teenager in the foster care system. This is a woman who does not take rubbish from anyone and has learnt ways of dealing with arseholes, bitches and pervs (please excuse my language). Jaxxon is snarky, opinionated and extremely blunt. What you see is what you get and when she's approached by a modelling agency, they want the 'fire in her eyes' snarky beauty.
Connor faced the same darkness of the foster care system as Jaxxon but he escaped and somehow landed himself a successful career as a racecar driver. He never forgot the young beauty of Jaxxon and the connection they shared. Connor stayed away thinking she would be better off without him never knowing that he started a chain of events that nearly ruined her. Eight years pass and when Connor sees Jaxxon on the front of a magazine, he decides to reach out to see her again.
Jaxxon and Connor's love story is not an easy one. Jaxxon was hurt by Connor's abandonment and staying away for so long when they were kids. Connor is sure that Jaxxon was better off without him and only see her successful modelling career. Neither of them is looking for a relationship but can't deny their sexual attraction to each other. Jaxxon is offering sex only because she's afraid of being abandoned again. Connor only does hookups and sexual relationships normally and thinks once he's had her he will be able to move on. Not so much...
I really enjoyed listening to From Rags and was pleasantly surprised that it lived up to my expectations. The storyline was interesting, the characters were original and the sexy times were HOT!! The narrator does a pretty good job but it was surprising that they used an American voice actor when both the hero and heroine were English. Suzanne Wright has always been a favourite and I'm glad I had the chance to experience one of her earlier stories in audio.
If you're a fan of this author, like a snarky and opinionated heroine matching up with a sexy and alpha hero, I highly recommend giving From Rags a try.
At fifteen Jaxxon Carter's life went from bad to worse. She had lost her mother years before when she committed suicide, her best friend and protector in her foster home left promising to come back, but never returned, and lastly her sister is walking out of her life leaving some biting words in her path. Alone Jaxxon learned the hard way how to protect herself and make a life for herself, even if it is living in squalor at least it's a life.
Years later Jaxxon is a waitress full of attitude when she is discovered and asked to model. Jaxxon never gave much thought about her curvaceous body or looks, she also knows that if an opportunity presents itself it is best to explore to see if anything may come of it. Now the it girl of modeling and one unlike any before, Jaxxon is the face of a new cosmetic company and highly sought after in every capacity. Jaxxon agreed to model but with that commitment she made it plain from day one she was not going to change who she is, she is blunt, hot tempered, and if she let's you in loyal to a fault.
Formula One Driver Connor McKenzie cannot believe after a break up from hell that he finds a magazine with Jaxxon on it. He regrets he had never fulfilled his promise of coming back to her, but he knew he wouldn't be able to walk away a second time and he made a vow long ago that he would never commit himself fully to another woman. Deciding to man up and seek Jaxxon out he is shocked by the her unwelcome reception when he sees her again, not to mention he decides in that moment he wants her. Jaxxon knows she can never have a relationship with Connor, but working each other out of their system seems like a perfect antidote for the two of them considering whenever they are in the same room they ignite like a wild fire in sexual tension.
Loved it. Can I just say I love this cover, love it. That alone had me eager to read this story. There is a lot to this story and it can be a bit raw at times but as you begin to understand the depth of each character you embrace what they have become. Jaxxon quickly has become one of my favorite characters she is one tough chick and had me smiling with the way she could get under Connor's skin. So glad to find a new author to read.
***Reread, love this book. Just as good the second time around.
I just hate it! Absolutely hate it!!! This could have been such a great book. But no, it wasn't meant to be.
I love Jaxxon. She's the best. I rooted for her. I just love her attitude and her confidence. I really felt for her. I would have been so angry.
Connor is not hero material. He's a man-whore. I absolutely cannot hear/read about such heroes any more. I had it with them. I don't need a virgin hero, but please, a man who sleeps with so much women, who's never in a relationship and who discards woman like they're nothing... well that's just plain ugly and disgusting.
Then the issue with his promise. When he leaves the foster home, he promises young Jaxxon, that he'll be there for her forever and will come back for her. Never happened!! He was lying to her. And all because he didn't want to hurt her feelings. I don't care how young he was, or what he was thinking, but you don't get to lie to her that way. It was just so sad.
And then wuuums.. He sees her in a magazine and NOW he wants to have her. Because why? Because she's famous? Or because he knows where to find her? Or what? Don't know, don't care!
Then when they meet, he has really sexy thoughts about her. But not to be misunderstood. He just wants to have sex. No relationships. Comprendre? Well... I don't.
Then he breaks into her apartment. What the Hell!! This is stalkerish behavior and so not sexy, or hot or whatever the author may think. He just sits there and waits for her. Then he demands answers to his questions and wants to know where/when/who/what... Really? I wouldn't tell him not one thing! He could go where the pepper grows, for all I care.
The worst of all is that he has the sudden urge to wanting her. He's like: "I want you. I wanted you forverer. I know you want me. So just lets be together. We could want to want each other." Yeah. Where does he come from? How can he say that he wanted her forever and wants her even now? I just don't understand this.
All this made me so mad! I don't want to read anymore. I just feel disappointed. But well, I'm off reading a new book.
Its official! Jaxxon is my now Fav female lead. She was amazing! I loved her attitude to life, love, relationships, and just everything. She doesn’t bow down to anyone. Not even the hunky love of her life, Connor. Those two had the worst kind of childhood but like the title they went From Rags to Celebs. But the best part about them was they never left themselves from who they really are, they were real. Yeah Connor might have had his share of women but Jaxxon and Conner were grounded, at least I thought so.
This book had it all, an evil bitch out to get revenge, a stalker, a horrible and tragic past for both of them, lots of angst and AMAZING I cant get enough of you and I cant live without you kinda sex. Their attraction was always ready to burst and when they finally came together all you could really do was sit back and go with it cuz the ride was up and down and upside down!
Usually In these sorts of books love the Alpha and like the heroine.
I LOVED the heroine Jaxxon as much as I loved the Hero Connor.
Jaxxon and Connor grew up in foster care together, when he left when he was 16 and she was 14, he kissed her told he cared for her and would come back.
He never did.
Fast forward 8 years later..
Jaxxon is a hardass self proclaimed (and def is! )bitch, she's working in a shit hole of a pub. When modelling agent Richie spots her and asks her to try out for the face of Allure Cosmetics. Jaxx is HAWT she just doesn't know it, but what Richie tells her is
"I believe that you Jaxxon, know a depth of pain that some may never experience. I have sat and observed you tonight, I like that you refuse to act as society expects you to act. You're not civil if you do not believe the person you are speaking to deserves it, you're not patient if you do not believe the person trying you're patience is worthy of it. You're true to yourself, you're real. But what will make you different is the pair of eyes that you have. They take on a certain intensity when you are.. frustrated? They literally smolder. I've honestly never seen anything like it."
After some talking into Jaxx agrees and is then thrown into the world of stardom. She is still a bitch though. And everyone pisses her off just so her eyes work their wonders.
She becomes "adopted" by the 2 benefactors of the company and the photography and becomes BFF's with another model Anna. The quirky perfect family she is protective over.
All that's missing is love. Anna points out that Jaxx needs a mans-man.
"Someone who's not intimidated by you, someone who won't quiver before you, someone who won't back down once you get started on one of your disputes, and we'll throw in a healthy sex drive for good measure. Someone intense. I just can't see you being satisfied with sweet and gentle."
Enter Formula 1 ladies man, serial heartbreaker, ridiculously HAAAWWTTT Connor McKenzie, after seeing his Jaxx on the cover of a magazine he can't get her out of his head. He has to see her now that's she's legal. He finally gets the balls to call her, but leaves a message. She doesn't call him back Connor is her past. She wants nothing to do with him.
Then there is a charity event, of course they both happen to be there. I have seriously never read sexual chemistry like I did when they spot each other at the event!
Well let's just leave it at that and say that the story literally explodes from there!
Sex scenes off the fucking charts! Seriously some of the things he said.. ugh.. and then the things he does, *sigh* make sure you have PLENTY of spare panties laying around! some of the most memorable are against a tree, on the kitchen bench, and in a public bathroom Jaxxon gets a stalker. Really don't look at the spoiler unless you have read it. Connor's crazy ass fucked up ex comes into it. Connor's hardcore possessive streak. Anna meets her dream man. Jaxx crazy sister comes back.
......................
It's fair to say that I loved this book. Like LOVED LOVED it. I know the reviews have been up and down about this book. It was self published, so there were a few mistakes but they weren't huge and I didn't care at all. and it only cost $1.49Au but it was worth sooo much more.
I was literally LOLing at scenes - Ie A food fight in the middle of a posh restaurant, the way Connor goes cave man on Jaxx and throws her over his shoulder to carry her to bed, not once not twice but 3 times! LOL.
This isn't written from one POV it bounces around to whoever is at the scene. I really liked that to get a different perspective of the situation other than that of the H/h. It also has a lot of English Slang which I loved. ( I've seen some reviews where people didn't like it nor understand it, I thought it was great, maybe cos I understood it. I dunno
I could honestly gush about this book all day. I loved everything about it. Oh and there's an awesome Epilogue! I can't wait to read it again. Or anything else that SW publishes.
Some of my fav parts are: “Here's something for you to remember; you might have been born into money, but you came out of a vagina the same as everyone else. Popping out of one that's rich doesn't make you anything but lucky, or susceptible to being stuck your own arse. Whichever.”
“Even bitches can get a break in life.”
"I curse like a sailor." "We can always say you have Tourette's Syndrome." "Even someone with Tourette's syndrome would be wide-eyed by some of the things that comes out of my mouth"
"For god sakes! I'm horny and I want you; if that's not enough, if this was only fun when was resisting you, then get into your car and piss off."
"I have to have you Jaxx. I want to fuck you so bad my cock actually fucking hurts. The might not be sweet, flowery, poetic words- the kind you'd laugh at- but that's the truth. I have to know what it's like to be deep inside you."
"This isn't a Cinderella story, this is more like Harry potter and the Gob of Ire."
"love you, you mental bitch,” he whispered in Jaxx’s ear. “And I love you, you dick,” she whispered back."
Another kickass heroine that needs a better hero, a much better hero. The heroine occasionally falls into the little special snowflake that doesn't "get" dresses and makeup, but she has so many other great qualities I'll give her a pass. She's hysterical in how she stands up to the H that ditched for 8 years until she becomes a model, callously dismisses the evil OW attempts to sandbag her, and does her own dirty work. I loved her.
Why not 4 stars? The zero of a hero who is such a fatheaded, selfish, self-centered and egotistical loser, I could hardly stand it. He wants her now and gets his nose out of joint when she doesn't fall at his feet the minute she sees him again.
Lots of bad guys and a decent story, but it's the heroine that makes it.
Really liked it. Few gripes about it - some of the spelling was awful: think chalet has only one "l". Leah's husband was a plumber not a plummer. Also I think if you went to a posh restaurant at a ski resort in France I doubt if garlic bread would be on the menu or vinegar on the table .... but other than that it was a good read!
Wow I loved this book the female lead was so great and her dry sense of humor really cracked me up! I would have given this a five but really didn't like Jax professing her love to the male lead I just wish she could have stayed strong throughout without confessing her love and not getting it back in return! Still a great book.
Rating 3.5 Well I have to be honest I wouldn't have given this book a try if it wasn't for a friend's recommendation and I liked the book, it was in one word pretty crude and sexually charged, featured a heroine who was in one word outspoken and a hero/heroine who had a tendency to air their sexual laundry everywhere and acted kind of like brats publicly making a spectacle of themselves and the cave-man behaviour. So, I have now listed what all stuff you will find in the book and these may make you cringe.
There were moments I found their discussing their sex lives in front of all uncomfortable but beyond that I liked the book. The heroine hasn't had an easy life, an addict mother who OD'ed she went into foster care where she was abandoned at 14 when her sister left and so did Connor, a guy she loved and who protected her. We see her again 8 years later when she is discovered and becomes a model as well as acquiring three men who act like her father.
The heroine was an early bloomer and a stunner which has gotten her unwanted attention all her life. She is emotionally closed off and when Connor contacts her again after so many years she doesn't respond. She hates him for his desertion and thinks he was shagging her sister.
The hero is an F1 driver who cared for her but didn't want to go back to her since she was so young and he would not have kept his hands off her. He is famous and known for his casual relationships and wants back into her life once he has seen her again.
So, we have two people who don't want to get emotionally involved. The hero is super jealous and hates it even if a guy looks at her, and he makes them sexually exclusive. At the start they are all about protecting themselves and sex which actually annoyed me but when Jaxxon took off without telling him Connor followed admitting it was because he missed her paving way for emotion and sex.
We have a sub-plot with his ex who refuses to let go and a stalker for Jaxxon. These two people are wary about opening up, after he left Jaxxon's life became miserable, a gang of guys tried to rape her and when she was moved she allowed herself to be abused by a guy to protect a five year old girl from that fate. Connor doesn't want commitment because of his father(he killed his sister and his mother abandoned him because he looked like his father) and I liked how strong Jax was breaking it off with him after telling him she loved him. She didn't push or whine or ask why couldn't he give them a try, she just left. So, a hurray for a strong heroine who refuses to take crap from anyone or be intimidated.
Ooh and I love a pining hero, he was miserable when she left refusing to let go off her dog and TALKING to him. When he calls her he finds out her number has changed. And his proposal was kind of funny and I loved how we see her sister come back into her life and the epilogue.
Despite problems the book was reasonable enjoyable.
Cover - naff as fuck, 1 out of 5 Title - 3 out of 5 Favorite Line - "Here's something for you to remember; you might have been born into money, but you came out of a vagina the same as everyone else. Popping out of one that's rich doesn't make you anything but lucky, or susceptible to being stuck your own arse. Whichever." Favorite Character - Jaxx
I was not expecting to like this book even half as much as i did, seriously! Jaxx is an amazing character, her attitude & humor rocked throughout the whole book. It was a sexy, sweet & super humorous book. Connor had a fantastic alpha vibe, he was a super sexy character.
“Like it or not, your business became mine the minute you let me inside your body.” Jesus *fans self*
The story was good, loads of twist, turns & surprises to keep me guessing. I am not a huge fan of second chance romances as i find them very contrived & farcical but this one really rocked. Jaxx, i know i already mentioned her but wow, she was almost as awesome as Taryn from Feral Sins! What a tough life she had, it was really lovely to read her getting a happily ever after. The sex scenes in this book are often & HOT. You will not be disappointed by the steam factor that is for sure.
I would recommend this book & read more by this author
This book was so bad I'm almost lost for words. If I could I would give it zero stars.
This review will contain spoilers so if you don't want to know why this book is so bad don't go on.
You followed? Well then let's get started. Most unfortunately a large number of authors today have this awful, unrealistic, ugly idea of what makes an alpha man and that is a caveman man. Just because you have the male lead carry the heroine over his shoulder anytime he wants to get his way doesn't make him hot or sexy. It makes him a pushover that doesn't have more than two brain cells. Every time Ms Wright you have your hero force his way on the heroine whether that is sexually or in the privacy of her life it isn't hot. It's appalling. No healthy woman in this world would accept such behaviour in the real world. In the real world, when a man from your past shows up after eight years of no communication demanding that you break up with who he thinks is your boyfriend and right after expects you to fall into his bed and obey his every command, you don't just say a few curses and ignore him a bit and then let him have his way. You curse his ass off and when he persists you take proper action probably even legal action. Unfortunately after such incredible and total rubbish that I read, my memory cells chose to go off with dignity instead of committing the awful act of obeying their reason for existence. Therefore the last of them that survived tell me that the level of stupidity was just too much for them to handle and I should just know that there's an overload of said stupidity that followed in the book.
There is no human being in the world, let alone alone a woman who will awe every single person she meets. It has never happened in the existence of this planet simply because it isn't possible. Most especially it doesn't happen when the heroine sounds like a sailor 100% of the time. She curses and acts like a poorly educated and ill lived man. Ms Wright you must understand that appearance, no matter how beautiful it may be, will never let someone feel so attracted to someone who curses like a sailor and has the emotional capability of a robot. I could have accepted her attitude as a sarcastic sense of humor if it wasn't constantly there. And Ms Wright no one in this world goes through so much trauma and just deals with it as if it was a walk in the park. They might be emotionally closed up or panic but they feel. Even in their traumatized closed down state they feel!! They might feel fear or panic or depression or some other emotion but they still feel something. While and after a person is kidnapped, they feel something. Anything but not a lack of fear or shrugging things off as if it's no big deal. And while victims are sometimes put in a position where their animal instincts take over and they choose their life over the life of others they do feel guilt at some point!! You just made your heroine an almost sociopathic murderer!! For people who haven't read the book this is the scene I'm referring to. The heroine has been kidnapped by her stalker whose only purpose is to rape her and then kill her. He ties her down and she manages to untie herself and threaten to throw herself off a hole from a few levels off the ground. The stalker goes after her to stop her attempt and she manages to trick him and let him half fall through the hole on the ground. She sit on him to stops him from falling, then talks to him and demands him to acknowledge that he's a coward (cause that's what one does in such a situation, right?! UGH!!). This goes on until she has said what she has had to say which feels like a weak and pathetic attempt from the author to pass some kind of message. What that message is beats me but hey I don't really understand how someone like that is a role model of any kind. Anyway, at some point he says something (my memory cells had gone to their grave in all their dignity by this point) and she gets up and lets him fall over the hole. At that point she feels no regret, no guilt just a rightness and relief. Now I could understand relief and maybe justify rightness a bit if at some point in this thing she felt a tiny bit of panic or guilt at the idea of taking a human's life. But no. That never happened. As far as she was concerned it was business as per usual after that.
The constant slang and cursing was another tiring thing. This reminds me of teens that try out cursing for the first time and think that if they do it too often then they will look cool. Thing is the characters here aren't teens. And I'm sorry but no matter how loving someone curses in a job after a point it makes working with them difficult. Think of it this way. I loved Gregory House and it was a damn good series but I would dread and absolutely hate working with him and letting him abuse my psychology every single day that way. The difference here is that the House series was a good one whereas this book is on the far opposite end. Granted I haven't lived all my life in the UK but I know for a fact that people don't talk like that in London all the time. They mix the slang up a bit. Every nation does. The amount of time she used certain words, whether in the characters thoughts or in dialogue, shouldn't be allowed and in reality are never used so much. All this brings me to my next issue. I understand that this author is self published and therefore one should expect some editing mistakes. That I can deal with. What I can't deal with is the constant wrong grammar, far too poor editing to the point where either words were missing or they were in duplicate. Any self published author should go over their work multiple times before releasing it and check it at the very least for missing words or duplicates if nothing else. The other point is that there's nothing attractive to the writing style but that was the least.
I was ready to give up at chapter 3 with how stupid everything was but I thought I'd give it a chance in the hope that it'll be better later on. In the past I've come across books that do a U turn after halfway through so I thought maybe this would too even though it didn't look like it. At 23% I was more than ready to save whatever brain cells I had left. Let's face it as we grow we don't have much of them left. Then I wanted to see how much stupidity could fit in one book so I finished it. I also wanted to have a justified opinion and a right to write a review so I pushed through. My misery finally ended soon after. I'll never understand how authors think that having their hero throw the heroine over their shoulder, tell them what they can and cannot do, ignore them, be pushovers and force themselves on them is their version of alpha caveman men. Like I said no woman in her right mind would think such a man was hot, alpha or sane.
This rant could go on but really there's no point. All you need to know about this book is that the men in this one act like little girls when they talk and are pushovers. The women are either robotic or sociopaths and in so many ways give women a bad name. The writing is nothing special while it's full of grammar and editing errors as well as full of far too much unrealistic slang. The plot is somewhat irrational and senseless. All in all I do not recommend this to anyone. If you are looking for a proper alpha male look elsewhere. And one last thing. Ms Wright strength and power are not given so one can abuse. They are given so one can protect. I wish I could claim the saying but it belongs to another author who does alpha males properly.
I honestly don’t even know where to start with this book. I just loved every single thing about it. Jaxxon and Connor are absolutely incredible. One thing that I think gave this book the extra edge, for me personally was the English slang. Whenever there was a typical English phrase I almost wet myself laughing, I don’t even know why really. It was just refreshing for me to hear so many words that I, and friends, use all the time. I loved it. Just seeing the word ’arse’ and not ’ass’ made me a very happy lady ;)
'… what the bloody hell was she doing there. Her a model? Compelling character? Entrancing eyes? What a load of old shit.'
Bwahahaha.
I will apologise in advance because there are about a thousand quotes I want to put into this review, but I will try and cut it down as much as possible, I promise.
Jaxxon might just be one of my all-time favourite heroines; she's amazing. Not even once, throughout the entire book, did I get annoyed or frustrated with her. I always like a strong leading lady, but Jaxxon is in a league of her own. Seriously, you don’t want to mess with her…
'Anger made her quick; without thought she grabbed a fistful of his greasy dark hair and slammed his face and slammed his face down hard on the bar. Once. Twice. Three times. "You ever even attempt to touch me with these paedophilic hands of yours and not only will I castrate you but I'll ram your balls up your arse when I'm done." She released her hold on his hair with a shove.'
I love her inner strength, her ability and need to help others that have a hard time in life, just like her. She tries to protect them from the bad things in their lives. Her sense of humour just suited me perfectly. I could not stop laughing at her smart-arsed comments…
"Just wondering why there's a deathly silence in here?" "I haven’t threatened them with the loss of important body parts if that’s what you’re wondering. They're fine, watch." Then she smiled as she sang the nursery rhyme words, "If you’re happy and you know it clap your hands." There was then laughter and clapping. Ollie could only shake his head and chuckle.'
I also related with Jaxxon's character on quite personal level. Just something she said very early on that bought a tear to my eye and made me feel like I understood her so well. I have done this exact same thing for far too long, spent a lot of time, effort and tears on people who really don't deserve it…
'Sometimes people who you loved just didn't love you back, even if they were supposed to. Thinking about it or dwelling on it only wasted minutes out of your life. What was the sense in doing that?'
Suzanne Wright writes some of the best heroines I have ever had the pleasure of reading about.
Jaxxon and Conner together are explosive, passionate and intense. Every moment with them was jam packed with history, connection, longing, lust and sexual chemistry. They are captivating when together.
'He fisted a hand into her ringlets and tugged so she'd look up to him. "I have to have you, Jaxx. I want to fuck you so bad my cock actually fucking hurts. They might not be sweet, flowery, poetic words – the kind you laugh at – but that's the truth. I have to know what it’s like to be deep inside you." He felt the tremor that ran through her. "You think I can’t tell that you want me?"
Another thing about this couple that endeared them to me was the fact that they were just so much damn fun together. Every scene between them, no matter what was happening, I could not stop smiling. This couple just made me really happy.
'As the doors opened at the seventh floor. Jaxxon held them open. "I’ll tell you what, McKenzie, let’s hit the stairs. Whoever gets to the ninth first gets to be on top." For a second he didn’t breathe. "You’re on, Carter." Jaxxon could barely walk for laughing as Connor attacked the flight of stairs like a rocket.’
I just want to quickly say that Wright, I think you may just have written some of the hottest sex scenes, ever! And you know what made them so incredible…? They were normal. Jaxxon and Connor didn't need to be into the whole Dom/Sub thing, which I have gotten really sick of lately. They didn't need to be extremely kinky, or into anal sex, which everyone seems to be fascinated with lately (which is totally fine, when it’s done right, which unfortunately isn’t that often). They were just wonderfully normal. They were caring and passionate, and went totally wild for each other. It was so hot. Each scene was as good, if not better than the last. So I really want to thank you for that, Wright. Thank you for normal, amazing sex!
Connor could be quite frustrating at times (I still adored him though). I didn't like the way he just presumed that Jaxx would be there for him, after all these years, that she would trust him just like she used to. That she would open up to him and tell him whatever he wanted to know. I wanted him to earn her trust and her love. Which he totally did over time :) Anyway, moving on… I always love a guy that's honest, even if it's brutally so at times. He always told her the truth and I liked that when his feelings for her changed, developed, he went to her and told her. Told her why he had chosen to be that way, why it was so important not to fall in love, or to have his own family. It broke my heart :( I loved the way that he was so consumed by Jaxxon; just being away from her for a few days made him miss her, crave her…
'The instant Connor spotted her he felt like he could breathe again. The knot in his stomach untangled and the ache that had been throbbing in his chest for days stopped abruptly.'
This book also had a really great cast of secondary characters, like Dane and Anna (just to name a few). Who were both amazing friends to Connor and Jaxxon.
And Anita, who really was a crazy bitch! I could not believe that she was actually serious half the time. As I always say, a desperate woman is never attractive. The lengths to which she was prepared to go, all just to have Connor? It was insane. I was so happy that Jaxxon never believed her lies.
Connor and Jaxxon just blew me away and this ending summed them up perfectly. Amazing…
I will end this review by saying that after reading only two books by Suzanne Wright, she is way up there on my list of favourite authors. Her books just suit me perfectly; they are everything I look for in a book. I cannot wait to read more by hert, starting with 'Here Be Sexist Vampires' which I just rushed off and bought.
This is the type of love story I encounter now and then that has many flaws but I ignore them and love it anyway lol While reading this book I was frequently shaking my head thinking ‘these characters /situations are over the top but I’m enjoying it so much, I must be losing it’. It needed a better editing, plus there were some British slang/words I didn’t understand. The H/h emotional entanglement was shown mostly during the love scenes but it worked for me this time. The heroine was outspoken, a few times crude in public, but her honesty was refreshing and I loved the caveman hero. I know this will be a reread someday, hence the 5 stars. HERO is a Performer, an F1 famous driver, from a broken home, raised in foster care, temperamental. When he meets again the girl he was infatuated with during his foster home years, all those past feelings come rushing back, plus a strong attraction he can’t fight back. The British slang was a highlight for me, but I like watching Eastenders and Downton Abbey??? (not sure how that signifies) The sex scenes are actually stellar, imho (not that I am an expert, but hey they rocked my world a little bit).
The rest was pretty much just ok. There wasn't much emotional development between the two leads. We were told about "it", "it' took place off screen, but we didn't get to experience "it".
This is basically the story of how the heroine keeps the hero on the ropes most of the time and the sparring that takes place. It was an enjoyable premise and could have been extraordinary (the author seems to very capable) with more development emotionally between the lead characters.
I mentioned in my early comments the characters felt enough like a cartoon that if one had been hit by a bus, I wouldn't have been surprised if they popped right back into regular shape.
I felt like I wanted more of what the author was trying to do. It had great potential and reminded me of the feeling I when reading R.L. Mathewson for the first time.
I enjoyed that the author attempted to write an alpha female to match her alpha male, but ultimately it didn't end up wowing me or satiating my story hunger.
However, I have to give bonus points when an author makes me feel this is a genuinely endearing statement, What? You didn't think that was sweet?!
Note to the author: I will read more of your work! You have something unique, something I really liked and I won't be able to get it anywhere else. I can't wait to see what you do next.
Hope you do another real world since I can't do paranormal... or I can't do it easily.
All I can say is that Wright sure knows how to write a good sex scenes, and I mean GOOOOOD! The tension, attraction, aggression between Jaxx and Connor top notch!
The story line was not the most original or surprising and what are the chances of two most famous people in the world coming from the same foster home?
There was a lot, and I mean a lot of editing and grammar errors. I don't know who's fault was it, I'm suspecting Kindle's but than again Feral Sins version I got also needed editing so it's hard to say. Never the less it did drove me nuts at times.
Overall it was a good read. Did I mention the sex was great? :D So girls if you're in a mood for a hot and steamy action this book is for you :)
