4 Stars! ~ Kaye, widowed 2 yrs ago, is fast rising in the political arena. She's now on her way to becoming Speaker of the House of Representatives. Because she's young (36), female and African-American, this marks her as a target for militia terrorists. When an attempt is made on her life, her godfather, Col. Wilson commander of the secret SDDU, steps in to protect her. Danny's a member of the SDDU and when the Colonel asks him to look after Kaye, he feels honoured. It soon becomes obvious that there's more at stake here than Kaye's political position, the militia group are after bigger targets too. In spending time with Kaye, Danny learns that she's not only smart she's brave too. This only heats up his attraction to her. Kaye's reluctant to become involved with Danny, not only is he younger (29), but she has her reputation to consider; the public adored her deceased husband. But when they're thrown into one perilous situation after another, the bond between them gets stronger and stronger.
This is another exciting, action packed read. Kaye proves herself up to any challenge and an equal partner to Danny. I like that Ms. Marton creates heroines who have such inner strength. In this book, the plot is stronger than the romance. I would have liked to have gotten to know Danny and Kaye a little better. That aside, this is great read. Ms. Marton is on my must read list.
SDDU = Special Designation Defense Unit; an elite group compiled of agents from all the US agencies; CIA, FBI, SEALs, Special Forces; the best of the best.

Someone tried to kill me by running my car into a wall. Then, someone tried to shoot me and strangle me in my own home. After that, I watched my brand new, covert op bodyguard be poisoned in my home after I let in a complete stranger after he told me not to when TWO Secret Service agents were injured (one died) by the person who tried to shoot me and strangle me in my home.
So, yeah, I'm totally going to go off with a complete stranger and not tell anyone. Nothing bad can come from that.
I'm really enjoying this so far but i had to stop and ask, why is there always the friend there who's sole purpose is to talk about the heroines sex life. The heroine's life is at stake but the friend is encouraging her to have some fun and have sex with her bodyguard, the hero. Someone tried to kill the heroine a day ago and all the friend worries about is her sex life and seem to equate having sex is to finding love again. That's backwards, the friend should be worried about the heroine almost loosing her life not trying to bulldoze her into having sex and all in her business about it. If this was my friend showing such little care about my well being, after what had happened, I would have shown her the door and told her to get her priorities straight.
I have to hand it to this author because usually an author who mainly writes ww/wm stories write those with substance, but when they write an ir with bw heroine or on of multi or different race they focus mainly on the smut, using sex to sell the story. ignoring character development, having no true emotional or mental connection between the leads. What little story there is, is just a lead to more sex. I wonder why that is?
This author didn't do that, she made two characters that is developed, the story has substance. the attraction between the leads is hot without the smut. the air crackles in each other company. the drama and mystery is definitely keeping me on my toes, really enjoying this.
I loved that color wasn't a real issue, the heroine was a woman trying to do job, who happens to be black, and was targeted by a radical group because of it and actions of other people. they're two very tough people, each trying to save the other and the chemistry between them is amazing, you saw and felt it in their words and action. this speaks alot of the authors talents with words. I haven't had to roll my eyes a million times, giving myself a headache or pulled from the story by unnecessary use vulgar language or un-needed explicit sex or any trying to turn love into sex.
the drama and action keeps your heart pounding wondering what's going to happen, how in the world they'll get out of certain situation.
Cheating is not some mistake, oh I made a mistake and tripped on this woman naked, it is an intentful act and was done more than once, he was also of the age that he knew he was betraying her, the jerk, not the hero, her husband that's now passed away before the hero came on the scene. The husband slept with a married woman while he was in a relationship with the heroine, he hurt more than one person. I am so happy it wasn't the hero who did this or I would have had to stop reading. I wouldn't have been able to look at him the same or root for them being together.
One thing though, her fear of being with him because of his age is ridiculous, he isn't sixteen, he is a grown ass man who knows what he wants, she is what, 4 or 5 years older. that's a non issue as far as I'm concerned.
The sensual parts was just that sensual, you got to hear and feel how they felt emotional, their kiss was hot and sensual without being smutty, even their love play was about emotions. There was no gushing ,squirting or vulgar description of what they felt for each other. Body parts didn't take over the story. I cared about what happened to this couple and wanted them to have a HEA.
this was a wonderful, heart pounding suspenseful read with a romance that was hot, sensual and believable. I wish there were more books like this around. the ending was perfect. I was thinking about giving this just 4 and a half stars because of that inconsequential conversation with the friend when the heroine's life should of been the center of the worry and conversation, but it was just a small part and the friend was never brought in again. I really don't know why she was there in the first place. everything else about this story I truly enjoyed and no headaches from eyes rolls or actions that made me want to laugh or puke. I mean some of the things authors put in a book, some for shock value or try to convince me the couple is in love always miss the mark and I end up not reading the book or anything else by that author.
This was perfect and I will gladly read another book by her.

As with most Dana Marton books I read, I wish this book were a bit longer. The plot and characters really deserved 500 pages instead of 250.
This features a couple fairly rare in category romance, older woman younger man interracial couple. I liked the characters, Ms. Marton always writes strong, physically and mentally active heroines and this book was in line with the others.
It is very plot heavy and has a satisfactory if slightly rushed third act, which is where I would have liked another 50-100 pages.
A ora cosa, mariposa.

To tell you the truth, my problem with this story has been, plainly and simply, that it is implausible. As far as I had read, the heroine has been attacked three times, one of them a hand to hand kind of fight with the assassin, and as a result, one of her bodyguard is dead and two had ended at the hospital. And she continues doing stupid things like allowing estrangers to enter her house (although her security guys had forbidden her to do it) or going to places without her bodyguards. So when she was kidnapped (and don´t ask me why she is kidnapped because I don´t know. As far as I know, she was wanted dead) because she is TSTL I have decided to drop it.
